A Tale of Two Disasters (in Black and White): New Orleans vs. Fargo
Post Date: 2009-03-31 15:42:31 by X-15

While watching the evening news the other night and seeing the heroic efforts of Fargo, ND citizens working together to halt the rising flood waters of the Red River and contain the damage to their community, the reaction on the part of this community seemed vastly divergent from the community reaction of New Orleans during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina — the broadcast images of the responses to the flooding disasters that hit opposite ends of the U.S. couldn’t be more different. Recent news accounts of Fargo, ND showed countless volunteers (men, women and children) filling sand bags, working together like the intricate parts of a Swiss clock, valiantly trying to contain the ...

Banks Walk Away On Foreclosures

Banks Walk Away On Foreclosures Homes, who wants 'em? No one it seems. Please consider Banks Starting to Walk Away on Foreclosures. Mercy James thought she had lost her rental property here to foreclosure. A date for a sheriff’s sale had been set, and notices about the foreclosure process were piling up in her mailbox. Ms. James had the tenants move out, and soon her white house at the corner of Thomas and Maple Streets fell into the hands of looters and vandals, and then, into disrepair. Dejected and broke, Ms. James said she salvaged but a lesson from her loss. So imagine her surprise when the City of South Bend contacted her recently, demanding that she resume maintenance ...

Living in the American Mafia State

Living in the American Mafia State 12 comments by: Christopher Whalen March 30, 2009 | about stocks: C / JPM / KBE / RBNF / XLF Christopher Whalen Add to Your WatchlistAbout this author: In the late winter of 2008, a strong whiff of millenarianism had already crept into American public life. As voters flocked to the primaries in startling numbers, many Democrats became convinced that the Second Coming lay just around the corner. By contrast, sentiment among Republicans was more somber, if equally chiliastic: they quaked at prospects of a dire Last Judgment on the administration of President George W. Bush in the November presidential election. Partisans of both parties also harbored fears ...

When Is It Going To Be Enough, America? Lorie KramerMarch 15, 2009 Believe it or not, this started being about HR875 & S425, but in the writing of it, it's just so much more. This is about the amazing things happening in this nation, and the inconceivable tolerance the American public has of it all. Dear, dear, America, When is it going to be enough? Haven't you been disrespected, marginalized, misdirected, demeaned, disregarded, ignored, insulted, bullshitted, deliberately misinformed, uninformed, manipulated, controlled, cheated, lied to, poisoned, killed…and generally just plane old screwed for long enough? I'm really starting to wonder about you. Why isn't ...

Ron Paul: End the War on Drugs

End the War on Drugs We have recently heard many shocking stories of brutal killings and ruthless violence related to drug cartels warring with Mexican and US officials.  It is approaching the fever pitch of a full blown crisis.  Unfortunately, the administration is not likely to waste this opportunity to further expand government.  Hopefully, we can take a deep breath and look at history for the optimal way to deal with this dangerous situation, which is not unprecedented.Alcohol prohibition in the 1920’s brought similar violence, gangs, lawlessness, corruption and brutality.  The reason for the violence was not that making and selling alcohol was inherently ...

Fox News’s Mad, Apocalyptic, Tearful Rising Star

Mr. Beck, an early-evening host on the Fox News Channel, is suddenly one of the most powerful media voices for the nation’s conservative populist anger. Barely two months into his job at Fox, his program is a phenomenon: it typically draws about 2.3 million viewers, more than any other cable news host except Bill O’Reilly or Sean Hannity, despite being on at 5 p.m., a slow shift for cable news. With a mix of moral lessons, outrage and an apocalyptic view of the future, Mr. Beck, a longtime radio host who jumped to Fox from CNN’s Headline News channel this year, is capturing the feelings of an alienated class of Americans. In an interview, Mr. Beck, who recently rewatched ...

Cheney War Crimes: Just Look at the Statute
Post Date: 2009-03-30 06:25:15 by Ada

President Obama needs to tell Attorney General Eric Holder to indict Dick Cheney, right now, for war crimes. Just look at the statute, Title 18 of the U.S. Criminal Code, Section 2441. It says that someone is guilty of a war crime if he or she commits a “grave breach of common Article 3” of the Geneva Conventions. And then it defines what a grave breach would be. One such breach is torture, or the conspiracy to commit torture, which Cheney was clearly in on, as when he repeatedly defended waterboarding and talked about the need to go to the “dark side” Here’s the language from the statute: “The act of a person who commits, or conspires to commit, an act ...

Why Michelle Malkin Ought to Be Caged Like a Rabid Shih-Tzu (Rank Hypocrisy Edition):

Why Michelle Malkin Ought to Be Caged Like a Rabid Shih-Tzu (Rank Hypocrisy Edition): So let's just get this straight: back in 2006, Michelle Malkin, blogger, syndicated columnist, and an attention whore with appetites so huge that, if she were a sex-selling whore (and the Rude Pundit has no direct knowledge that she is not), she'd be in front of an audience of cheering old drunks, giving handjobs to hobos while getting fucked in the ass by the bartender's pit bull, which is pretty much what happens when you appear on Fox "news," posts to her blog the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of three UC Santa Cruz students who led a protest against military recruiters ...

When I was posting from Melaque Mexico, I found a place that had a a MUCH better monitor than the usual low end stuff I was used to, basically it was a wide screen that I quickly saw the benefits of and well, I liked it alot. As it was in a ten peso a hour icafe I figured it could have cost too much, as the Mexicans have a stiff tariff on electronic imports so I sent myself an email with the model of the monitor so I could investigate when I got home. Home I got and investigate I did. Now I am looking at an Acer X193W 19" fast monitor,WIDE and really think its great. Sue was doing a spread sheet and the utility value was great. So I just got an email from the vendor, newegg telling ...

Cal Thomas: So-called science of climate change has many critics By Cal Thomas Published: Friday, Mar. 27, 2009 - 12:00 am | Page 17A The Environmental Protection Agency has submitted a "finding" to the White House Office of Management and Budget that will force the Obama administration to decide whether to limit greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act. If adopted, new laws and regulations will likely follow that have the potential to change our lifestyles and limit our freedoms. None of these laws and regulations will be preceded by debate; they will be imposed on us by fundamentalist politicians and scientists who have swallowed the Kool-Aid and declared global ...

Haaretz: Will U.S. Financial Woes Bring In A New World Order?

Is the U.S. about to lose its status as the dominant global superpower? Will the dollar collapse? If so, what would become the new global reserve currency and what would replace U.S. hegemony in a new world order? American troops are currently stationed in over 150 countries around the world and have been actively engaged in combat since the beginning of the war in Afghanistan in 2001. The pretext for the invasion of Afghanistan was provided by the 9/11 attacks. A second front in the U.S. “war on terror” was opened in 2003 with the invasion of Iraq. As well these military expenditures, the U.S. has an outstanding national debt of $10.8 trillion and rising. Although U.S. ...

Deepening tolerance makes British Obama ‘possible’ says Putnam (UK)

The UK has the necessary preconditions for the emergence of a black prime minister according to a joint study by Harvard University and The University of Manchester. The project, to be published in book later this year co-authored by writer Tom Clark, is led by Harvard’s Professor Robert Putnam, the author of the best-selling Bowling Alone which charted the collapse of community life in America. Professor Putnam is also Visiting Professor at The University of Manchester. It casts new light on controversial comments by head of equalities watchdog Trevor Phillips last November, who doubted that the political machinery of the UK would allow a British Obama to breakthrough. The ...

Mark Levin: Busted

Conservative talk show host and author Mark Levin’s new book, “Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto,” has just hit the bookstores and from what I’ve been hearing over the last few days it has been well received, to say the least. Mr. Levin’s fellow conservatives have done nothing but rave over this book, describing it in almost mystical terms with one reviewer describing Mr. Levin as the new Thomas Paine. Apparently, conservatives in Washington have forgotten who they are and what they stand for; so Mr. Levin has written a succinct yet defining instruction aid for not only our elected officials who claim to be conservative, but also for firing up the ...

Thursday, April 3, 2008 Are you antisemitic? If Semitism is attacking your neighbors, brutalizing defenseless, innocent people, taking their land and destroying their homes then yes, I AM ANTI-SEMITIC. If Semitism is spying on your alleged friends, stealing their secrets and selling them for profits or using them against "friends" then yes, I AM ANTI-SEMITIC. If Semitism is assassinating, spying, blackmailing, smearing and worming your way into control of another nation's government then yes, I AM ANTI-SEMITIC. If Semitism is staging false-flag terrorist attacks and blaming them on other nations or people then yes, I AM ANTI-SEMITIC. If Semitism is smearing anyone who ...

La Raza and Jews on Collision Course in Alta California

There are now significant signs of an impending collision between La Raza and Jews in California. The signs were first manifested during the state's 1998 election primary when a Mexicano defeated the Jewish candidate Richard Katz in the state's 20th Senate District and when the wealthy Jew, Ron Unz, was successful in having an anti-bilingual education initiative approved by the state's electorate. The battle lines between Mexicanos and Jews in California have been drawn and they have been drawn most clearly in the City of Los Angeles. La Raza's battle for the 20th Senate District is a perfect example of how the Jews will fight tooth and nail to maintain their dominance in ...

My Response To MIAC Report (Chuck Baldwin) [Full Thread]

By now, readers should be familiar with the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) report dated 02/20/09 and titled, "MIAC Strategic Report: The Modern Militia Movement." In this dreadfully malicious and slanderous "law enforcement sensitive" secret police report, Governor Jeremiah (Jay) Nixon; John Britt, Director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety; James Keathley, Colonel, Missouri State Highway Patrol; and Van Godsey, Director of MIAC categorize certain citizens as being potential violence-prone "militia members." I would venture to guess that more than 75% of the entire population of the United States would fit the MIAC's broad definition ...

J.C. WATTS: Lessons from bailout, stimulus boondoggles

I heard it said once that "there's so much good in the worst of us and so much bad in the best of us, that it's sometimes hard to tell the good from bad." We have seen this principle unfold over the past months with the introduction of the so-called $787 billion stimulus package, the $410 billion omnibus bill and the $700 billion bank bailout fund. In churches, synagogues, parishes, small businesses and households, we know we have to make good decisions, manage well and not live beyond our means or spend more money than we take in. Most of us make our financial decisions knowing if we blow it, there will not be an opportunity for a bailout. Given that, there's a ...

Tongue-tied Barack Obama is turning into Jimmy Carter

Barack Obama's gaffe mocking the disabled by comparing his ( inept but improving ) 10 pin bowling skills to the "special Olympics" illustrates the problem he now has in communicating with the American people. Obama seems incapable of balancing the need to be a national leader and his childish desire to retain his image as the uber cool dude he so clearly believes that he is. The fact that he felt the need to go on Jay Leno at all to sell his stimulus plan, budget and banking bailouts shows that he has communications issues. The public are not buying his spending splurge, or his administration's confused attempt to kill off executive bonuses. Mike Allen and Jim ...
