Nibbling At The Edges

In light of the recent campus shooting it brought to mind the ever-present erosion of our liberties. This morning I tuned into the Mark Davis show (WBAP, Dallas) to hear what the MSM and its shills are saying about the Virginia Tech. "massacree" (no 8X10 glossies in this case to Arlo Guthrie’s dismay). Mark was calling for instant background checks upon the purchase of a gun. He said the criteria should be based on criminal and mental health background checks. Are TPB planning on using the Russian model of deeming dissidents mentally ill in order to take away their liberties? How hard would it be to get a couple of government shrinks to diagnose someone insane based on his ...

Government and Racism

The controversy surrounding remarks by talk show host Don Imus shows that the nation remains incredibly sensitive about matters of race, despite the outward progress of the last 40 years. A nation that once prided itself on a sense of rugged individualism has become uncomfortably obsessed with racial group identities. The young women on the basketball team Mr. Imus insulted are over 18 and can speak for themselves. It’s disconcerting to see third parties become involved and presume to speak collectively for minority groups. It is precisely this collectivist mindset that is at the heart of racism. It’s also disconcerting to hear the subtle or not-so-subtle threats against free ...

Washington, D.C., April 15, 2007: “On Thursday, March 15, a meeting was held in a private suite at the Hay-Adams hotel in Washington. This meeting was attended by CIA and CIA-based Mossad personnel, a Russian/Israeli representative of Boris A. Berezovsky, an Israeli citizen formerly a Russian citizen, representatives of Mikhail Brudno and Vladimir Duboy, also Israeli citizens and once major holders in Yukos, the Russian oil giant.. Also present was a personal representative of Vice President Cheney. The meeting was under clandestine electronic surveillance and it quickly emerged that the purpose of this meeting, which commenced after a luncheon served in the rooms and began at 1425 ...

Way Off Base [Democrats Pulled Into Popular Positions by Their Base]

Normally, politicians face a difficult tradeoff between taking positions that satisfy their party’s base and appealing to the broader public. You can see that happening right now to the Republicans: to have a chance of winning the party’s nomination, Republican presidential hopefuls have to take far-right positions on Iraq and social issues that will cost them a lot of votes in the general election. But a funny thing has happened on the Democratic side: the party’s base seems to be more in touch with the mood of the country than many of the party’s leaders. And the result is peculiar: on key issues, reluctant Democratic politicians are being dragged by their base into ...

US Plans To Move 40 Million High-Skill American Jobs To Other Countries Tuesday, April 17, 2007 - Page updated at 02:00 AM Froma Harrop / Syndicated columnist New threat to skilled U.S. workers The master plan, it seems, is to move perhaps 40 million high-skill American jobs to other countries. U.S. workers have not been consulted. Princeton economist Alan Blinder predicts that these choice jobs could be lost in a mere decade or two. We speak of computer programming, bookkeeping, graphic design and other careers once thought firmly planted in American soil. For perspective, 40 million is more than twice the total number of people now employed in manufacturing. Blinder was taken aback ...

GOP: The Party of Brownshirts

04/16/07 "ICH" -- -- Neoconservatives have turned the Republican Party into a Brownshirt Party. Look at the evidence. While real patriots flee the party, the remaining supporters cling to power by asserting dictatorial dominance for President Bush. The Republican Attorney General denies that the US Constitution provides habeas corpus protection to American citizens. Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney, Republican candidates for the 2008 presidential campaign, believe the president has the power to imprison US citizens indefinitely without warrants or trials. The “conservative” Federalist Society favors concentrating more power in the executive. Neoconservative ideologues ...

Posted: 04/16/2007 On the first day that H-1B visas became available, corporations snapped up all that are allowed. Our government received 150,000 applications for the 85,000 slots set aside to bring in foreign skilled workers. Corporations whine that H-1Bs are needed because of a shortage of Americans with skills, but major studies at the University of California Davis and Duke University conclusively prove we have thousands of unemployed or underemployed Americans with all the needed technical skills. Nobel economist Milton Friedman accurately labeled H-1Bs a government "subsidy" to enable employers to get workers at a lower wage. The best way to deal with the demand for a ...

It's up to Congress to save the executive branch from Bush's and Rove's radical experiment to transform it forever. On Jan. 26, J. Scott Jennings, the White House deputy political director working for Karl Rove, delivered a PowerPoint presentation to least 40 political appointees, many participating through teleconferencing, at the General Services Administration, which oversees a $60 billion budget to manage federal properties and procure office equipment. Jennings' lecture featured maps of Republican "targets" for the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2008 election. His talk was one of perhaps dozens given since 2001 to political appointees in ...

Arrogance Unbelted! By Ted Lang Exclusive to http://Rense.com 4-15-7 When informed members of the American public, namely those who get their information in terms of accurate, truthful news and opinion from an Internet alternative media source websites, they quickly realize the truth of Lord Acton's assertion that power corrupts. And along with the public's sensing of such unlimited, unbridled power on the part of an elected politician and government official, a justified sense of loathing and contempt develops in the minds of the electorate such that any repeated facial expressions, manner of gesticulation, repeated phrases in speeches and such, are sure to incite a higher level ...

The murk and dirt of the White House Andrew Stephen Published 26 March 2007 * 3 comments * Print version * Listen At last, the everyday corruption of the Bush administration is gradually being brought out into the daylight. It's now the cardinal rule of 21st-century politics: don't send even the most innocuous emails, to absolutely anyone, if you are a remotely important politician or government official. A very senior FBI man told me the other day not to send an email to his office: "Remember," he warned me, "emails never disappear if you know where to look for them." He knows a thing or two about tracing emails. Because the FBI was able to retrieve ...

Don Imus, the line-crossing talk-radio host who broadcast daily across America from his New York studio, has been fired for referring to a team of black women basketball players as “nappy-headed ho’s”. Imus, a former Marine with a gruff demeanour, had an unsentimental show or, as they might say in America, it featured “guy talk” (any Briton, by the way, who uses “guy” or “guys” deserves a glossectomy). There was some banter and unsubtle opinions were aired. It was not out of control but it also wasn’t a sanitised PC affair. He’s quite amusing and articulate in a resolutely uncomplicated way and had a huge listenership generating vast ...

When I was in college my girlfriend mentioned to me a guy she knew had told her about me, "You can do better than that." I had met him once and had a short but pleasant conversation with him. Why, I wondered, would he say such a thing about me? The answer was immediate: he would have liked to take her away from me. He envied me. She was a cute one, it was true. Cute and smart, the kind he wanted but apparently couldn't get. So he wanted what I had. He was, to use a common expression, a snake in the grass. He was talking behind my back. We use the term "snake" to refer to someone who is a backstabber. Apparently, this particular meaning has been used for thousands ...

Preventing Opposition to War by Sheldon Richman, April 13, 2007 The idea, discussed by me and others, that it is good that most Americans are not directly touched by the President Bush’s wars is of course not the whole story. Our rulers could have forced us to be more involved. They could have passed a special war tax, launched a high-profile “Buy War Bonds” campaign, and found other ways to demand “sacrifice” in the name of patriotism and victory. They could have staged more events featuring “our brave heroes who risk everything to preserve your way of life.” They even could have started conscription if only for symbolic reasons. But our misleaders ...

Tennessee Talk Show Host: "Many Ron Paul Supporters 'anti-Semetic'

While on my way to lunch this morning, I happened to stumble across a talk show syndicated statewide here in Tennessee on local radio WPWT. The host's name was Steve Gill, and just as I was reaching for the dial to change the station, I heard a called mention Ron Paul. That caught my attention, so I listened further. The caller was inquiring as to why the Congressman's campaign was being overlooked by the mainstream media. Then the caller stepped right on the third rail when he mentioned Zionist control of the media. (BIG 'faux pas'.) The host responded thusly: "It is that kind of anti-Semitism which is why Ron Paul isn't going to be elected President because his ...

Russia On The March - Again

The new Cold War won't be like the last one, with massed tank divisions stretched across the German plain ready to repulse a Communist invasion of Western Europe. No, the looming power struggle between resurgent Russian nationalism and Western liberty will be determined by raw economic muscle and political clout or, in Russia's case, blackmail and intimidation. You have only to look at the implosion of Ukraine's fledgling democratic institutions to see the effectiveness of the new tactics the Russian bear is using to claw back its influence over its former empire. Moscow has not forgiven Ukraine for its Orange Revolution in late 2004, which saw Kiev sweep away decades of ...

A shadowy Pentagon unit - the Office of Special Plans, headed by Douglas Feith, former US under-secretary of defence for policy - deliberately fabricated intelligence linking Saddam Hussain's regime to Al Qaida in order to incite the United States to make war on Iraq. This conclusion, long suspected by most observers of the Middle East, has now been confirmed by Thomas F. Gimble, Inspector General of the US Defence Department, in a declassified report, released on April 5 at the request of Carl M. Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Together with his boss, Paul Wolfowitz, then deputy defence secretary, Douglas Feith was part of an influential group of pro-Israeli ...

The escalating attacks are not usually aimed at civilians, but are a direct response to the brutal actions of US-led troops In Muqdadiyah, 50 miles from Baghdad, a woman wearing a traditional Iraqi abaya blew herself up this week in the midst of Iraqi police recruits. This was the seventh suicide attack by a women since the Anglo-American invasion in 2003, and an act unheard of before that. Iraqi women are driven to despair and self-destruction by grief. Their expectations are reduced to pleas for help to clear the bodies of the dead from the streets, according to a report by the international committee of the Red Cross, released yesterday. Tell us another one, Mr. Vice President; Dick Cheney is still trying to link Iraq with Al Qaeda and 9/11

TO PARAPHRASE President Reagan, there he goes again. On Rush Limbaugh's radio program last week, Vice President Dick Cheney spoke about Jordanian terrorist Abu Musab Zarqawi and stated: "He went to Baghdad. He took up residence there before we ever launched into Iraq, organized the Al Qaeda operations inside Iraq…. This is Al Qaeda operating in Iraq and, as I say, they were present before we invaded Iraq." It is incredible that more than four years after the invasion, the vice president is still trying to convince the public that Saddam Hussein's regime was connected to Al Qaeda and that Zarqawi's presence in Iraq was evidence of a connection. While the vice ...

Liberals see this whole Imus situation as a way to rid themselves of the problem of talk radio. Now that they've succeeded in getting MSNBC to pull Imus' program, they'll concentrate on CBS .. trying to get the radio show cancelled. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they succeed. Then they will turn their attention to the rest of us. The tape recorders will be running. There is not one single significant right-of-center radio talk show out there that is not going to come under fire. Liberals know -- they've proven it to themselves -- that they simply cannot succeed in talk radio. So, it's all very simple. If they can't succeed, destroy the genre. Their ...
