Bush vs. Ahmadinejad: A Mock Debate
Post Date: 2006-09-06 11:31:19 by Brian S

The outspoken President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran has challenged President Bush to debate U.S.-Iran relations. Bush has dismissed the offer and declined. Debate is not good-faith negotiation between the opposing parties, but it is better than nothing. And it might not be as one-sided as most Americans think. We could certainly fantasize about how such a debate might play out. President Bush, of course, would begin by accusing Iran of support for the "Islamo-fascist" group Hezbollah, which is attacking Israel. Ahmadinejad might respond that the president should quit using the term "fascism" in a Goebbels-like attempt to associate every U.S. rival, no matter how small, ...

America's Second Civil War

America's Second Civil War Linda Kimball It has been reported that Gov. Schwarzenegger caved into the persistent demands of Cultural Marxists and signed into law SB 1441. This law---a foul subversion of our Rule of Law and Constitutional rights---serves to further undermine the traditional family and parental rights by forcing extreme sex education upon children. Campaign for Children and Families in California and America (CCFAC) is outraged and appalled by Schwarzenegger’s cowardly capitulation. Schwarzenegger has “trampled the religious freedom to satisfy hyperactive sexual activists...Schwarzenegger is doing what Gray Davis did---trample religious freedom at the bidding of ...

The CEDAW Threat [UN Change Agents at it again]

The CEDAW Threat by Gail Jarvis "And he shall set the sheep on his right hand but the goats on the left. (Matthew 25:33)" The acronym CEDAW might not be familiar to some of you because media has largely ignored it. However, if CEDAW, a comprehensive United Nations program, is ratified by Congress, it will essentially restructure our way of life. Consequently the media's lack of reports about it is a little strange. On the other hand, as most of those working in the media admit to holding views "to the left of center," they might like to see CEDAW implemented. So maybe they don't want us to know much about it until it's too late to prevent its ratification. After all, ...

The Israeli Occupation, Not Islam, Is The Problem

In numerous interviews with western news networks recently, former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sought to incite western societies against Islam and Muslims. Netanyahu, a master of sound bites but an utterly poor politician, claimed that Israel was at the forefront of a conflict of civilizations between “fanatical Islam” and the “ democratic and civilized West.” The vindictiveness and venomousness of his tone, not to mention the utter mendacity of his message, may well be compared to Hitler’s instigation against Jews and other non-Aryan communities in Europe prior to and during the Second World War. The Likud leader totally ignored the shockingly ...

REVOLUTION: The Declaration of RE-Independence

The Declaration of RE-Independence [Prospectus: The Individual vs. The Corporate Conscience] While the term "individual", as regards each of us, has "gone to seed" in the human race, the ethics of the corporate has gone to hell. We humans have lost sight of our own horizon. While a nation of participants ("We the People" turned into a loose collection of spectators, the business of America morphed into a monster of business. Instead of "In God We Trust", on our money, money is now the god we trust [the love of $money$ having replaced real love]. While the stock market crash of 1929 was catalyzed by over-extended margins, the morality crash of our ...

Phase Three of the Great Neo-Con Deception

History will record that George W. Bush was the most dangerously incompetent chief executive ever to ascend to power. That he was allowed a second term will be the lasting and indelible shame of a manipulable electorate, a flawed and corrupt electoral system and the ineptitude of the opposition party. Contrary to the pronouncements of too many mainstream media voices, nothing that has been reinserted into the national debate in recent days is new. The Nazi analogy and the assertion that opposition voices are aiding a nefarious enemy were placed on the table shortly after the invasion of Iraq. The arguments that are being trotted out as prelude to war on Iran are a simple repackaging of ...

Almost beyond speech. I, am an attorney, an activist, a former Air Force Officer who served in Desert Storm, a veteran who waited more than 10 years for her VA claim, a champion of the underdog and tireless fighter, am almost without words, and I am afraid.... I do not fear for myself, though perhaps well I ought to...but I have real and palpable fear for this country, for what is left of Democracy, for the future of my children and, for the rest of the world. I watch as everything I was educated to believe in crumbles around me. I watch as there are secret detentions, extraordinary renditions, secret trials, disappeared, people held with no charges and no evidence, searched without ...

Propaganda and Provocation

Propaganda and Provocation T Stokes – September 1, 2006 The recent fury among Muslims over the publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed was not what it seemed. As with all these things, a look at the timing, and what else was happening at the time, reveals more than was immediately apparent. Israel has a privileged position in the Middle East being the only country in the region to have nuclear arms along a horrific catalogue of biological weapons. No U.N inspectors are allowed in here of course and no international condemnation or the threat of sanctions, as is the case with Iran’s nuclear program. Remember, Salman Rushdie’s book Satanic Verses and the ...

Pat Buchanan's make-believe America [Full Thread]

I have never believed (and I still don't) all the claims made against Pat Buchanan (by people like William F. Buckley) alleging that he is some kind of anti-Semite or racist, but I have always been alarmed by his inability (shared by most conservatives) to recognize the incompatibility between his quasi libertarian side and his raging nationalist side. Some recent comments that a friend pointed out from this interview were particularly worth second guessing: What do we have in common that makes us fellow Americans? Is it simply citizenship? Or is it blood, soil, history and heroes? Blood and soil? Uh, there is one word to describe this line: creepy. What's next, a speech on how we're ...

The 'O' Word

The "O" Word The Great American Oligarchy By STEPHEN FLEISCHMAN I never thought I'd ever hear the United States of America called an "oligarchy". But now I have. My dictionary says an oligarchy is a form of government where most or all political power effectively rests with a small segment of the society. As Wikipedia, the popular online encyclopedia, puts it, "Oligarchies are often controlled by a few powerful families whose children are raised and mentored to be heirs of the power of the oligarchy, often at some sort of expense to those governed." Does that sound like the administration of George W. Bush? For all my life, ever since grade school, I've been taught that the ...

Rumsfeld's fantasy easy to see through

On Dec. 7, 1941, Japan launched a sneak attack that devastated the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. And the United States rose in righteous fury, immediately declaring war on Thailand. Because, you know, it was in the same part of the world as Japan and the people kind of looked alike and besides, those Thais had been getting a little uppity and were due for a smackdown. Which is not the way it happened, of course, but if Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld wants to use World War II allusions to describe the war on terror, I submit that my fantasy comes a lot closer to the truth than his. Mr. Rumsfeld's fantasy, if you missed it, was shared in a recent speech before the ...

After 9/11 and Katrina, reality intruded on the president's finely honed image - and both times he was missing in action M The appeal of any presidential candidate is based on a "gut reaction, unarticulated, non-analytical, a product of the particular chemistry between the voter and the image of the candidate", argued Richard Nixon's speechwriter Raymond Price. "[It's] not what's there that counts, it's what's projected." And that projection, he continued, "depends more on the medium and its use than it does on the candidate himself". In other words, the American presidency is not just a political role but a performative one. Article continues Over the ...

The Meaning of Responsibility, The No-Fault White House

Weekend Edition September 2 / 3, 2006 The Meaning of Responsibility The No-Fault White House By RALPH NADER The chronically no-fault White House and its no-fault President were on their no-fault roll again around the country. George W. Bush, the Commander-in-Chief of the politics of non-faultism-went on another redundant symbolic trip to Katrina land. There, near the wreckage that even now is much of New Orleans, he announced: "I take full responsibility for the federal government's response." Politicians often resort to such "full responsibility" language when they know no one can impose any real accountability-in this case for a continuing cascade of Bush's governmental ...

Baluchistan and the coming war on Iran

Akhbar Khan, a nationalist/independence leader in Baluchistan has recently been killed by the Pakistani military, in a massive operation that is seriously destabilizing military dictator Pervez Musharraf's regime [1].Why should the news from Baluchistan interest us? I'll let you connect the dots by presenting a bit of context and concluding with an article from the Carnegie Endowment [2], which, I think, willunderline the significance of the event for the prospected US attack on Iran. The military dictator's regime is very unpopular in Pakistan. Pervez Musharraf, as Bush's ally on the "war on terror," has had to do unpopular things, like deploying 70,000 troops to the North-West ...

Criticize Israel? You're an Anti-Semite!

How can we have a real discussion about Mideast peace if speaking honestly about Israel is out of bounds? September 1, 2006 EVER WONDER what it's like to be a pariah? Publish something sharply critical of Israeli government policies and you'll find out. If you're lucky, you'll merely discover that you've been uninvited to some dinner parties. If you're less lucky, you'll be the subject of an all-out attack by neoconservative pundits and accused of rabid anti-Semitism. This, at least, is what happened to Ken Roth. Roth — whose father fled Nazi Germany — is executive director of Human Rights Watch, America's largest and most respected human rights organization. (Disclosure: I ...

Ann Coulter: THEY SHOT THE WRONG LINCOLN

In addition to supporting Democrat Joe Lieberman over Republican Alan Schlesinger in Connecticut, President Bush is supporting the Democrat over the Republican in Rhode Island, too. In the Republican primary, Bush supports Lincoln Chafee -- who votes with Bush on the important issues less often than Sen. Lieberman does -- over the only actual Republican in the race, Stephen Laffey. Apart from Bush, the only person who hasn't figured out that Lincoln Chafee is a Democrat is Lincoln Chafee. As the expression goes, if Chafee switched parties, the average IQ on both sides of the aisle would go up. It's hard to figure why Bush would support a half-wit like Lincoln Chafee. Maybe he believes his ...

August 31, 2006 We needn't have witnessed the systematic destruction of Lebanon last month to appreciate the nature of Israel, we need only remember the ongoing systematic destruction of the Palestinian peoples, a project escalated this summer and quaintly dubbed by Israel 'Operation Summer Rains'. Those "rain drops" are naturally not water, but a torrent of blazing steel and lead. These "rains" don't bring life to the hills, rivers, orchards, and beasts beneath them, but terrible death and heart-rending loss. And, for the Palestinians there is no umbrella, they are caught in the storm; no United Nations troops are urged to protect them from the Rainmakers across the ...

The secretary of Defense clarifies and expands on what he said in his recent speeches about appeasing extremists. By Donald H. Rumsfeld, DONALD H. RUMSFELD is the U.S. secretary of Defense. September 1, 2006 IN THE LAST FEW DAYS I have had the opportunity to speak at the annual conventions of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. It is always a humbling experience to be in the presence of those who have served and fought for our country during some of our darkest, most trying times — when it was unclear whether our way of life would prevail. We are again engaged in conflicts that are testing whether we believe that the defense of liberty is worth the cost. And ...

Buchanan: 'Islamo-fascism'?

Posted: September 1, 2006 "President Likens Dewey to Hitler as Fascist Tool." So ran the New York Times headline on Oct. 26, 1948, after what Dewey biographer Richard Norton Smith called a "particularly vitriolic attack in Chicago" by Harry Truman. What brings this to mind is President Bush's assertion that we are "at war with Islamic fascism" and "Islamo-fascism." After the transatlantic bomb plot was smashed, Bush said the plotters "try to spread their jihadist message I call – it's totalitarian in nature, Islamic radicalism – Islamic fascism; they try to spread it, as well, by taking the attack to those of us who love ...

The defeat of the regional superpower could yet open the way to a wider settlement of the Israel-Palestine conflict Thursday August 31, 2006 As the smoke clears from the battlefield of the 34-day war in Lebanon, it would be a mistake to count the cost only in fallen masonry and fresh graves. All is changed, changed utterly, by the defeat that the whole of Israel is now debating, from the cabinet through the lively press to the embittered reservists at the falafel stall. Practically the only person in the world who claims Israel won the war is George Bush - and we all know his definition of the words "mission accomplished". Reports that the Hizbullah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, ...

Talk Radio Is Becoming Big Brother's Voice by Bryan Hyde by Bryan Hyde DIGG THIS Some books are considered classics for their ability to provide us with insight into human nature. Recently, while studying George Orwell's 1984, I had the epiphany that talk radio is, in many ways, becoming a modern-day Ministry of Truth. But I'm probably not the only one to notice that what once was a voice for limited government and free speech has taken on a clear authoritarian tone. In Orwell's novel, the Ministry of Truth was tasked with spinning the facts to make them fit the party line, and keeping the public in a mindset of never-ending war. It was Big Brother's chief means of controlling the ...
