I’ve Been Totally Wrong About Uruguay
Post Date: 2012-07-04 02:54:49 by Tatarewicz

Sitting beneath the canopy of a chic new restaurant overlooking the rambla, a jazzy cumba on the sound system softly keeping time with the ebb and flow of the waves beyond, I nurse a cold mojito and watch the sun slowly drop into the vast Atlantic Ocean. I have to admit that I’ve been totally wrong about Uruguay. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I do...I figured it would be just another South American country struggling to catch up to the First World. I could not have been more mistaken. In many ways, Uruguay is more developed, more civilized and more advanced than the countries to its north. Pride is apparent and a squeaky clean affluence is everywhere. For instance, just ...

Damage worse than thought in the Mountian Shadows area. This was one hot fire. And this afternoon we were going to the Outback, and freek, the entire COS north valley was choked with smoke, in the back areas the smoke appeared to me to be so dense that any air breather would have to get out of there, and the rest of them would be well advised to for air quality issues alone. And now the crazy winds have started up, re igniting the dormant hot spots.

What price would you pay for freedom? In the exhilarating action epic FOR GREATER GLORY an impassioned group of men and women each make the decision to risk it all for family, faith and the very future of their country, as the film's adventure unfolds against the long-hidden, true story of the 1920s Cristero War the daring people¹s revolt that rocked 20th Century North America. Poster Comment:I saw this film yesterday and damn it was great. Right up my ally. Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria, Peter O'Toole. What is interesting is that Catholic churches are promoting this movie which is in essence a very radical statement against the government when said government pushes too ...

Clinton is a lobbyist, not a diplomat 02.07.2012 Clinton is a lobbyist, not a diplomat. 47452.jpeg Hillary Rodham Clinton is a lobbyist who panders to the whims of the business community surrounding Washington, dictating its policy after financing the campaigns of the Presidential candidates. She is not a diplomat. So who the hell is Hillary Clinton to say whether President Assad should go? Was she elected by the people of Syria? The answer to the question is no, she was not. As a matter of fact she wasn't even elected by the people of the United States of America. Conducting foreign policy these days is very much providing a diplomatic arm for companies to do business overseas. ...

The Real Winners By PAUL KRUGMAN Published: June 28, 2012 653 Comments So the Supreme Court — defying many expectations — upheld the Affordable Care Act, a k a Obamacare. There will, no doubt, be many headlines declaring this a big victory for President Obama, which it is. But the real winners are ordinary Americans — people like you. Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times Paul Krugman How many people are we talking about? You might say 30 million, the number of additional people the Congressional Budget Office says will have health insurance thanks to Obamacare. But that vastly understates the true number of winners because millions of other Americans — including many who ...

The series is a model of investigative reporting, which everyone should read. But it should also be seen in context. The horrors described are part of a broader pattern in which essential functions of government are being both privatized and degraded. Fred R. Cast off from America Brian Cloughley Friday, June 08, 2012 From Print Edition [Cast off from America] Pakistan is in a parlous state. Internal security is a major problem and the Karachi shambles seems to be beyond the power of government to deal with. Balochistan is in chaos, the level of sectarian violence increases weekly and the war in the tribal areas is costing the country a fortune. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled the fighting between militants and the army in the border region with Afghanistan. Pakistan is still host to two million Afghan refugees who can’t return to their country because it remains in ungovernable anarchy. And all this has happened ...

To make matters worse, Romney reportedly has a habit of demanding that his neighbors quit smoking pot on the beach. Times reporter Michael ...

Breaking the golden rule Posted By Stephen M. Walt Friday, June 1, 2012 - 12:02 PM Share Remember the Golden Rule? "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." It's not normally regarded as a cardinal rule of foreign policy; in that realm, "an eye for an eye" seems closer to the norm. But lately I've been thinking that Americans ought to reflect a bit more on the long-term costs of our willingness to do unto others in ways we would most definitely not want them to do unto us. This past week, the New York Times has published two important articles on how the Obama administration is using American power in ways that remain poorly understood by most ...
