Anita Perry Defends Her Husband’s Job Creation Record: ‘People Are Hungry For’ Minimum Wage Jobs By Marie Diamond on Sep 28, 2011 at 4:30 pm Anita Perry, the wife of presidential contender and Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), took to the campaign trail in Iowa today to defend her husband against a growing wave of criticism and scrutiny from the right. In between brushing away criticism of her husband’s debate performance and positions on immigration and the HPV vaccine, she made a surprising admission. While parroting her husband’s jobs claims, she also conceded that not all the jobs Texas has created during her husband’s tenure are high-paying jobs — in ...

The Latest Orchestrated Threat and The End of History A By paul craig roberts (about the author) Become a Fan Become a Fan (228 fans) -- Page 1 of 1 page(s) opednews.com AdChoices Have you ever before heard of the Haqqanis? I didn't think so. Like Al Qaeda, about which no one had ever heard prior to 9/11, the "Haqqani Network" has popped up in time of need to justify America's next war -- Pakistan. President Obama's claim that he had Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden exterminated deflated the threat from that long-serving bogyman. A terror organization that left its leader, unarmed and undefended, a sitting duck for assassination no longer seemed formidable. Time ...

Alla Dreyvitser On the same July day that Donald Rumsfeld was patted down by airport security at Chicago’s O’Hare airport, I underwent an upper-body pat-down at Reagan National. I was posing spread-eagle in the full body scanner, in compliance with various mandates of the federal Transportation Security Administration, when something set off a female TSA agent, who began mumbling anxiously into her walkie-talkie. I leaned forward, trying to hear her description of my offense. I was wearing no shoes and no heavy jewelry, and I’d thrown my belt into a bin along with my BlackBerry, my bulging key ring and an Amazon Kindle. But something was clearly wrong. Finally, I heard ...

How a normal, healthy government behaves

How a normal, healthy government behaves September 15, 2011 by POPEYE Filed under Israel 1 Comment (Glenn Greenwald) Relations between Israel and Turkey have become increasingly strained ever since Israel attacked the Mavi Marmara last year, shot and killed 9 people aboard (8 Turkish citizens and 1 American teenager), and then steadfastly refused to apologize. That’s because normal, healthy governments get angry when foreign armies shoot and kill their unarmed citizens for no good reason: Once a close ally of Israel, Turkey accelerated its growing stature across the Arab world — and further upended the regional order — when it downgraded diplomatic relations with Israel ...

Retirement Heist! U.S. Pensions Plundered By Corporate Greed, Author Says By Peter Gorenstein | Daily Ticker – 2 hours 36 minutes ago tweet23 Share4 Email Print Video Player Controls Follow The Daily Ticker on Facebook here! It's pretty obvious times are tough for America's working class. The combination of a prolonged period of stagnant wages, high unemployment and shaky economy - including a decade of little or no returns (if you're lucky) on assets like stocks and real estate - make it harder to pay the bills. (See: As America's Middle Class Shrinks, P&G Adopts "Hourglass" Strategy) Meanwhile, New York Times columnist and economist Paul Krugman, ...

Why shouldn't the military, after a radio message telling all the paycheck workers NOT to go to work on a Wednesday, and use all the predators drones and their Hellfire missles in the ME to good use in the USA, and blow the frick out of the Wall Steet criminal enterprise? Now that is a military operation I can support funding. And will benefit America's future.

The Irvine 11: Islamophobia is alive and well Muslim students' arrest for interrupting the Israeli ambassador's speech in California shows discrimination at work. The harsh charges and conviction of the Irvine 11 stand out when compared with the treatment of others who have interrupted political speeches [GALLO/GETTY] The Irvine 11 verdict has just come in, Friday September 23. All guilty, all charges. Students and organisers say this selective prosecution will not thwart their efforts in future protest. I had the opportunity to address a press conference alongside the Shura Council, Council on American Islamic Relations and Jewish Voice for Peace among others, after closing ...

Why Do Republicans Hate Social Security? Add this Page to Facebook! Become a Fan Become a Fan (45 fans) -- Page 1 of 1 page(s) opednews.com AdChoices Republicans hate Social Security because it has been an extraordinary success and has done exactly what it was designed to do. It is the most successful government program in our nation's history and is enormously popular. When Social Security was developed, 50 percent of seniors lived in poverty. Today, that number is 10 percent -- still too high, but a testament to the success of Social Security. Republicans have spent years demonizing Social Security and spreading lies about its sustainability. They want to scare Americans and ...

If Tom Friedman can say it, you can too Even Israel's most ardent supporters now say its lobby skews the political landscape and damages both the US and Israel. MJ Rosenberg Last Modified: 24 Sep 2011 09:58 The American Israel Public Affairs Committee lobby takes its orders from Israel [EPA] The most appalling aspect of the Obama administration's inept handling of the upcoming UN vote on Palestinian statehood is the reason for the administration's bumbling. Its moves are dictated by fear of offending Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, his lobby and, especially, the campaign donors who take direction from that lobby. One can respond: So what else is new? But that is ...

Pentagon Papers Whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg Says that the Government Has ORDERED the Media Not to Cover 9/11 Posted on June 14, 2011 by WashingtonsBlog It’s big news that the Pentagon Papers have finally been released by the government. But the statements from Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg about 9/11 have not been covered by the corporate media. As Fire Dog Lake’s Jeff Kaye writes today: The entire 9/11 field of inquiry has been vilified, poisoned over the years by ridicule, sometimes fantastic conspiracy mongering, and fearfulness by journalists of approaching the material, lest they be branded as irresponsible or some kind of conspiracy freak. As a result, ...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - As the government grapples to find ways to trim the bloated federal deficit, a new report suggests officials might start with cutting out $16 muffins and $10 cookies. "We found the Department (of Justice) spent $16 on each of the 250 muffins served at an August 2009 legal conference in Washington," said a DOJ Office of Inspector General report released on Tuesday. The DOJ spent $121 million on conferences in fiscal 2008 and 2009, which exceeded its own spending limits and appeared to be extravagant and wasteful, according to the report that examined 10 conferences held during that period. The review turned up the expensive muffins, which came from the ...

A historian (and ex-Marine) friend reacted to Scott Locklin’s essay about the importance of tough manliness: “One of the reasons I hate liberalism is that it is wimp liberalism.” He then adduced the therapeutic state’s handling of violent criminals as an example of limp liberalism. He said that had the hyper-macho POTUS Theodore Roosevelt been reelected in 1912, the Germans wouldn’t have dared to start World War I. Scanning the news page the other day, it struck me that liberalism—even when not limp but incarnated in such priapic women as La Hillary, Samantha Power, Susan Rice, the Napolitano person, or Janet Reno—is still a road to war, mayhem, and ...
