Delicious Dish: Schweddy Weiner Post Date: 2006-09-01 13:42:53 by Peetie Wheatstraw

Poster Comment:This is a sequel to the infamous "Schweddy Balls" skit which was even better. Rachel Dratch was, I'm afraid, a step down from Ana Gasteyer's original partner in the running skit "Delicious Dish," Molly Shannon, who had already left SNL when this skit aired.
Is There Still a Terrorist Threat? Post Date: 2006-08-31 22:58:43 by Morgana le Fay

Summary: Despite all the ominous warnings of wily terrorists and imminent attacks, there has been neither a successful strike nor a close call in the United States since 9/11. The reasonable -- but rarely heard -- explanation is that there are no terrorists within the United States, and few have the means or the inclination to strike from abroad. John Mueller is Professor of Political Science at Ohio State University and the author of "The Remnants of War." He is currently writing a book about reactions to terrorism and other perceived international threats that will be published early next year. THE MYTH OF THE OMNIPRESENT ENEMY For the past five years, Americans have been ...

CNN apologises for on-air blooper Post Date: 2006-08-31 09:21:05 by Eoghan

IT sounds like the television anchorwoman's ultimate nightmare. Take lavatory break. Leave personal microphone on. Have cloakroom gossip - including how much you hate your sister-in-law - broadcast live in excruciating detail during a nationally televised speech by President Bush. CNN was forced to apologise yesterday after such a fate befell Kyra Phillips, whose trenchant views on her brothers wife, mixed with the sound of zips and running water, drowned out Mr Bush as he spoke live from New Orleans to mark the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Her inadvertent comments gave the name of her show, Live From, a whole new meaning. As Mr Bush spoke of improved communications between ...

Signs of the Times August 30, 2006 The problem with carrying out terror attacks and then blaming it on Muslim patsies is that if you don't silence the patsies for good, they tend to 'sing', and in the case of Muslim Cleric Abu Bakar Bashir, keep on 'singing'... CIA bomb used in Bali: Bashir Sydney Morning Herald August 30, 2006 The Indonesian Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashir has claimed that the CIA was involved in the 2002 Bali bombings. Bashir, who was convicted and jailed for having prior knowledge of the attacks which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians, was released from prison in June after serving nearly two years. On ABC TV's Foreign Correspondent last night, Bashir said ...

China cracks down on striptease funerals Post Date: 2006-08-30 20:46:27 by Peetie Wheatstraw

China is ordering an end to the practice of employing strippers to attract crowds at funerals, the state news service has reported. Local tradition suggests bigger attendances at send-offs bring good fortune to the spirits of the dead. But complaints after state television exposed the practice at a funeral in Donghai county, Jiangsu province, have forced the authorities to act, according to Xinhua news agency. Watched by a crowd of 200 mourners including children, two strippers engaged by the family of a dead farmer gave what the local media described as an "obscene performance." Five people were subsequently arrested as the government demanded an end to the practice across the ...

The terrorists have won Post Date: 2006-08-30 16:15:35 by It Is A Republic

In the current war on Islamofascism, no platitude is nearly as ridiculous as the constant harangue that "if we do X, then the terrorists have won." X can be virtually anything. If you're a conservative, the terrorists have won if we don't fine CBS for showing Janet Jackson's boob during the Super Bowl. If you're a liberal, the terrorists have won if we don't enshrine partial-birth abortion and homosexual marriage in the pantheon of vital American liberties. If you're a libertarian, the terrorists have won if we continue to prosecute pot smokers or pass a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning. If you're Ralph Nader, the terrorists have won if we continue to not vote for you. ...

WHEN I WAS VERY SMALL, my dad could always tell when I was lying. When I was about six years old, he told me God whispered it to him. Even though the guy never went to church or seemed particularly religious, I had to respect that. He had an in with God. I wanted to hear it. I figured if I knew when it happened, the precise moment, I'd hear the voice of God, too. I decided to watch my dad's eyes for a sign -- some twitch of recognition, some little break in his concentration, anything -- that would tell me when he was hearing the voice of God. I told him easy lies, the ones I always told him: that my brother did it, or that my neighbor, a little asshole named Charlie Iker, made me do it -- ...
Cassidy - the Grateful Dead Post Date: 2006-08-30 12:07:32 by Ferret Mike

This is one of my all time favorites, played acostically by the Grateful Dead. It is about death of a man, Neil Cassidy and the birth of another, a baby girl, Cassady Law. Bobby Weir was working on the song while Eileen Law was preparing to give birth in the home they shared, and John Barlow wrote the lyric with the death of Neal Cassady and the birth of Cassidy Law in mind. The lyrics: "lost now on the country miles in his Cadillac," and "wheel to the storm and fly" are especially reminiscent of jack Kerouac's recollections of the long road trips with Cassady in his book "On The Road." Kerouac even tells the story of their trip to Chicago in a Cadillac which ...

Snuggles the Wonder Dog Ken Adelman (2/13/02): "I believe demolishing Husseins military power and liberating Iraq would be a cakewalk." George: Where is that darned dog? I need his analysis of the intelligence that's been gathered. Dick: I'm not sure you should trust the fate of the free world to a 12-pound pug. George: Well, he is a genius, you know. He has the IQ of William James Sidis, the moves of Jackie Chan, the magnetism of Sean Connery. What a dog! Plus, he did drive my daughters home one night when they were so tipsy they got into the back seat and wondered why they couldn't find the steering wheel. (Chuckles) It reminds me of what I used to do when I was their ...
Nasrallahs Blunder Post Date: 2006-08-29 18:45:06 by It Is A Republic

WELL, what do you know: What was presented as a "Great Strategic Divine Victory" only a week ago is now beginning to look more like a costly blunder. And the man who is making the revisionist move is the same who made the original victory claim: Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, secretary-general of the Lebanese branch of Hezbollah. In a TV interview in Beirut Sunday, Nasrallah admitted second thoughts about the wisdom of capturing the two Israeli soldiers, an incident that triggered the war: "The party leadership never expected a response on such an unprecedented scale and volume [by Israel]," he said. "Had we known that what we did would lead to this, we would certainly not ...

Sometimes I run across things that make my toes curl right up in my tennis shoes, like meeting a 50-year-old divorced grandmother who's living in a basement. And not a nice cozy Hobbit-like basement, but more like a Silence of the Lambs basement, the kind with those rough stone walls and a concrete floor. There isn't even any of that embarrassingly out-of-style dark '70's paneling, shag carpeting and an unfinished bar in the corner. This grandmother didn't end up there involuntarily, as if she was some dotty relative hidden by her family; she choose to live there. Now why would she do something like that? Because her 25-year-old daughter just gave birth to her first child, a baby boy, and ...

You are about to read the actual confession of a married person who has committed adultery by using the Internet to cheat on their spouse. After you read this confession we will inform you on how you can see if your lover has been using the Internet to cheat on you. Carolyn M., 33 of Lancaster, CA, is a married stay-at-home mom, who uses the Internet to have online cybersex affairs. Interviewer: Why did you start using the Internet to cheat on your husband? Carolyn: Because the Internet makes it so easy to cheat. I really love my husband, but the temptation of the Internet is so overbearing that I just can't help myself. I'm addicted. Interviewer: Can you define "cybersex" ...

Missions August 19th, 2006 Slo-Mo Home Depot Digital Video: Agents Todd, Kula, Shafer, Slocum, Reeves, Adams, Lanoie, Gross Digital Photography: Agents Nicholson, Pallas, A few years back we executed a mission that involved repeating time. Ever since then I've wanted to try something that stopped or slowed down time. How would people react if they found themselves surrounded by people moving forward at a different rate or time (or not moving at all)? I decided the Home Depot on 23rd Street in Manhattan was the perfect place to try this out for two reasons. 1) The assonance in "Slo-Mo Home Depot" sounds funny. 2) The mere existence of a Home Depot, an enormous behemoth of a ...

Coral Snake's Bites of the Week 20 (All El Pee edition, Goldi-Lox and the four BOTS ban honway.) For a long time the Bites ignored the fact that LibertyPost (aka El Pee) was becomming a clone of FreeRepublic with its own bot-harpy corps dedicated to banning genuine truth seekers and patriots. Version twenty will make up for this by emphisizing the bots of El Pee starting with its owner/mod Goldi-Lox. Also included as a major Bite recipient for the first time (and with three white persian cats at that) are current bot leaders at El Pee Ghost of Quantrill and Badeye. For those new to the Bites the white persian cats must be explained again. They are given to Bots, Neo-Cons, Gun Granbbers, ...

Investigators sought former Head Start chief's prosecution (Justice Dept. protects Bush Administration official) Post Date: 2006-08-13 15:49:46 by Ferret Mike

Federal investigators sought the prosecution of a former Bush administration official on allegations that she misused federal Head Start grant money, but the Justice Department declined prosecution, according to records obtained by National Journal through the Freedom of Information Act. In a previously unreleased report, investigators said they had found evidence that Windy Hill, chief of Head Start at the Health and Human Services Department from January 2002 to May 2005, had improperly pocketed thousands of dollars when she was head of a local Head Start program in Texas. The report was provided to Hill's boss, Wade Horn, head of the Administration for Children and Families, for ...
