Wednesday, August 26, 2009 5:39 PM Orrin Hatch Pens a Song for Kennedy Katie Connolly Conservative Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch struck up an unlikely and enduring friendship with Ted Kennedy over the years they shared in the Senate. It was a hugely unexpected relationship. Hatch had even told NEWSWEEK that he ran for the Senate to fight against Ted Kennedy. Yet the two men worked together on a range of bills, including the children's health-insurance program, and became personally very close. Hatch last spoke to Kennedy about a month ago, when they again discussed health care. The Salt Lake Tribune reports: "He said, 'I want to do it with you,'" Hatch said. "I ...

August 24, 2009 What's Big, Gay, and Covered in Sprinkles? The proprietor of one of Manhattan's newest, proudest food trucks insists that ice cream need not be so vanilla. Shira Danan Sriracha on your chocolate cone? If that quirky combo entices, the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck may be for you—big, gay, or not. The truck, a recent addition to Manhattan's accelerating mobile-food scene, is owned with pride by Doug Quint and his boyfriend Bryan Petroff. Quint, a classically trained bassoonist and smiling bear of man, started truckin' at the beginning of the summer. He uses Twitter to transmit his ever-changing location and daily array of traditional, gourmet, and ...

At a packed news conference at Faneuil Hall in Boston, Senators John Kerry, the Democratic nominee for president, and Senator Ted Kennedy, announced their plans to wed this summer at Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. Their respective wives, Teresa Heinz Kerry and Victoria Kennedy, stood by, beaming. "We intend to be fully integrated as a family," Mrs. Kerry observed. "We fully support the right of anyone to marry anyone they choose." "This is about freedom of choice," Victoria Kennedy added. "If anyone even suggests that this is a marriage of convenience, let me tell you now that it’s a lie." "You mean, " a reporter from the Boston Globe ...

A warning from the O.F.o.A. JUST IN ... Democrats, realizing the success of the President's "Cash For Clunkers" rebate program, have revamped a major portion of their National Health Care Plan. President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Sen. Reed are expected to make this major announcement at a joint news conference later this week. I have obtained an advanced copy of the proposal, which is named.... "CASH FOR CODGERS" and it works like this... Couples wishing to access health care funds in order to pay for the delivery of a child will be required to turn in one old person. The amount the government grants them will be fixed according to a sliding scale. Older and ...

This was actually, despite my teasing her, farmfriend's idea, and since I am a lifelong cook who enjoys good food I thought this would be a fun perennial thread. This is a place to share and exchange recipes, tips, sources, and treats. I am sure that there is a lot of expertise just waiting to be tapped into. I threw beverages into the title because I love a good cup of coffee and so have spent a lot of time reading about, brewing, and enjoying good coffees. My own strong areas in cooking are baking, Tex Mex, and Italian. I do not represent myself as an expert but as a someone who simply enjoys good food and is not uncomfortable in the kitchen. As a long time Kitchen Gardener I am ...

Utter hysteria. I was actually going to respond to a Goldi post elsewhere that similar to this and saw this one at the top of Breaking News. I was sorta shocked to see this came from Goldi. Uh, Goldi, it's fine and all that you think this country is being taken over from within, in an insiduous and "soft" fashion. You're totally right. I totally agree. However, to pretend this happened on 1/20/09 or Election Day 2008 is silly. It's two party fraud rube stuff. This country has been slowly taken over by the Elites/Oligarchs/Military Industrial Complex for about 60 years now. To try and assign this to just a matter of Dems vs. Republicans is so naiive. And what is this ...
