The prosecutor at Matthew Townsend’s March 19 preliminary hearing appeared to be auditioning for a Daytime Emmy. Her subsequent performance, and that of her colleagues, may be sufficient to earn a criminal contempt charge. Townsend, who is active in the Cop Watch (or police accountability) movement, was arrested without cause on February 2nd in Meridian, Idaho for the supposed offense of walking away from a cop who wouldn’t charge him with an actual crime. On the eve of his hearing he protested that mistreatment in a Facebook post promising a “shame campaign” against his kidnapper, Officer Richard Brockbank of the Meridian Police Department – and any public ...

Washington Wants Its Big Lying Machine Revved Up by Stephen Lendman Its annual three-fourths of a billion dollars spent isn't enough. It's for managed news disinformation rubbish aired by: • Voice of America; • Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, • Radio Free Asia; • Radio and TV Marti aimed at Cuba; and • Middle East Broadcasting Networks. Plus enormous sums spent by supportive corporate media, as well as so-called public (be damned) broadcasting and radio blasting out Big Lies, fake news, and other grand deceptions instead of what everyone deserves. Reuters previewed a new report claiming America is losing the information war to Russia - written by ...

Third Amendment Lawsuit Dismissed On March 23 over at Volokh Conspiracy, law professor Ilya Somin wrote about a lawsuit against Henderson, Nevada police officers who allegedly forced a family to let them into their home for hours while scoping out a neighbor’s domestic disturbance standoff back in 2011. Linda, Michael, and Anthony Mitchell sued police for various constitutional violations based on their treatment (which included being pepper sprayed) such as the familiar Fourth and 14th Amendment violations which often appear in lawsuits against police. Most interestingly, the Mitchells also sued over violations of their Third Amendment rights. In case you need a refresher, the ...

The Clinton Crime Family by Stephen Lendman They're one of America's notable crime families - Bill as president, Hillary as first lady, senator, secretary of state and now presidential aspirant. Bill's rap sheet includes: • eight years as Wall Street's man in Washington - facilitating casino capitalism more than ever before; • NAFTA and the World Trade Organization - anti-democratic job and environmental- destroying coup d'etas; • compromising vitally needed welfare aid; • marketplace medicine managed competition Hillarycare - Obamacare's precursor. • responsibility with Bush I for ethnic Rwandan massacres; • Iraq sanctions ...

Can Ted Cruz serve as President if he was born in Canada? National Constitution Center By NCC Staff 5 hours ago Republican Senator Ted Cruz has announced his candidacy for President, again raising the issue of how people born in other countries qualify for office under the Constitution. In the case of Cruz, he was born in Canada in 1970, and his father was born in Cuba and his mother was born as a United States citizen in Delaware). The Constitution’s Natural Born Citizenship Clause states that “no person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.” ...

“The game is rigged, the network is bugged, the government talks double-speak, the courts are complicit and there’s nothing you can do about it.”—David Kravets, reporting for Wired Nothing you write, say, text, tweet or share via phone or computer is private anymore. As constitutional law professor Garrett Epps points out, “Big Brother is watching…. Big Brother may be watching you right now, and you may never know. Since 9/11, our national life has changed forever. Surveillance is the new normal.” This is the reality of the internet-dependent, plugged-in life of most Americans today. A process which started shortly after 9/11 with programs such as Total ...

Britain Imprisons Migrants

Britain Imprisons Migrants by Stephen Lendman Britain is like America - a fascist police state masquerading as a democracy. Tories and New Labour are two sides of the same coin. Lib Dems are no different. They're allied with Washington's war machine. They serve powerful entrenched interests at the expense of all others. They treat their most disadvantaged citizens disdainfully. Migrants seeking safe haven asylum are treated like criminals. British media largely ignore what's ongoing. A March 3 London Independent report was a rare exception proving the rule. It headlined "Immigration centres: Act now to overhaul Britain's 'shocking' detention of migrants ...

3 More States Have Joined This Important 2nd Amendment Movement Concealed_weapons_school Three more states have recently implemented “constitutional carry,” the name given to laws that legalize open as well as concealed carry. The movement for constitutional carry espouses the principle that the Second Amendment is the only provision necessary to authorize a citizen’s right to be armed. The three states are Kansas, New Hampshire, and West Virginia. The Conservative Tribune reports: Most of our readers know that every American citizen is issued a concealed carry permit when we’re born. It’s known as the Second Amendment to the Constitution. While the Founders ...

The Second Amendment just got some (more) love in Texas Posted by: Jon Dougherty March 18, 2015 •Concealed and open carry laws save lives, even if Democrats in Texas say otherwise Liberals would love to turn the state of Texas blue, for if they were to accomplish that feat, it would virtually guarantee Democrat presidents well into the foreseeable future. But they haven’t succeeded yet, and honestly, their chances of doing fade with each successive Republican administration and legislature. Liberty got another boost in the Lone Star state earlier this week after the Senate passed a measure allowing gun owners the right to openly carry handguns. Already, gun ...

A bill restricting the rights of citizens to record the police was filed in Texas House of Representatives on Tuesday. The House Bill 2918 introduced by Texas Representative Jason Villalba (R-Dallas) would make private citizens photographing or recording the police within 25 feet of them a class B misdemeanor, and those who are armed would not be able to stand recording within 100 feet of an officer. As defined in the bill, only a radio or television that holds a license issued by the Federal Communications Commission, a newspaper that is qualified under section 2051.044 or a magazine that appears at a regular interval would be allowed to record police. "(My bill) just asks filmers ...

Juvenile Lifers in America Without Parole

Juvenile Lifers in America Without Parole by Stephen Lendman America is the world's only country imprisoning children for life without the possibility of parole (JLWOP). Doing so is unconstitutional. It violates 8th Amendment protection against "cruel an unusual punishment." The legal dictionary calls it: "any cruel and degrading punishment not known to the Common Law, or any fine, penalty, confinement, or treatment that is so disproportionate to the offense as to shock the moral sense of the community." According to the Sentencing Project, over 2,500 juveniles got life sentences in America with no possibility for parole. They're treated like adults ...

Marc Freeman and ‘Stephanie’ detained for hours inside so-called ‘black site’ so they would confess and implicate others Marc Freeman is the 11th person to come forward to the Guardian detailing detention inside Homan Square – and the first whose police record details how long he was stuck inside. ‘At no point was I ever processed, I was never asked for my information, they did not take any fingerprints,’ he said. The story of Marc Freeman’s disappearance inside Chicago’s Homan Square police warehouse on a marijuana offense last year exists between the lines of his arrest report – as his time in custody was not logged on the books until ...

ACLU: Snowden proved NSA Internet spying harms Americans

BALTIMORE (AP) — The American Civil Liberties Union and other groups sued the National Security Agency and the Justice Department on Tuesday, challenging the government's practice of collecting personal information from vast amounts of data harvested directly from the Internet's infrastructure. The suit filed in federal court in Maryland accuses the NSA of scooping up virtually everything sent via the Internet between Americans and people outside the United States, and then scouring it to identify and monitor foreign intelligence targets. A similar challenge was turned away by the U.S. Supreme Court, which said the plaintiffs couldn't prove they'd been harmed. This ...

Not Prepared… that’s Bad news... There are some people out there who think folks like you & I are a bit “strange”. They think having a food stockpile ready for a natural disaster is something they can put off for "someday" or "never". But those people are just hiding their heads in the sand. They are dead wrong -- and you are dead right. You've seen the evidence and you know the situation is way too serious not to do something about. When a crisis hits, you'll be ready. You'll make darn sure your family won't go hungry. Does Martial Law = Food Shortage? >> The fact is, if you don't take action or if you stockpile ...

Obama's Demagoguery in Selma by Stephen Lendman This weekend marked the 50th anniversary of Selma, AL's "bloody Sunday." The 1965 Voting Rights Act followed violent civil rights clashes. Obama had the audacity to lead Saturday’s commemorative Edmund Pettus bridge march along with others very much deserving to be there. Throughout his tenure, he's done more to harm blacks and other disadvantaged Americans than perhaps any post-Civil War president. Black poverty, unemployment, underemployment, homelessness, hunger and deprivation are greater than any time in memory - worse  than during Great Depression years. Black youth unemployment tops 50%. In ...

Under Obamacare, you’re considered covered if you have insurance through the government, including Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, retiree coverage, TRICARE, or VA health coverage; private insurance that you purchased on your own including COBRA coverage and ...

Garbage Man Sentenced To 30 DAYS IN JAIL For Picking Up Trash Too Early

The Daily Caller Well this is garbage. A sanitation worker in an Atlanta suburb has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for working too early. Kevin McGill had been working for only a few months for a company contracted to do sanitation work in Sandy Springs when he was cited for picking up trash just after 5 a.m. one morning, according to WSB-TV. That violated a city ordinance which limits trash pickup to between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The statute is in place because residents have complained that early pick-up disrupts their sleep. When McGill showed up to court to answer the citation, Sandy Springs prosecutor Bill Riley sought the maximum punishment against him — 30 days in jail. ...
