‘Sneak & peek’ warrants allow police to secretly enter homes without notice

A little-known police tactic allows cops to covertly enter private residences, perform searches, seize property, and then leave quietly without notifying the homeowner. These searches, affectionately known as “sneak and peek” warrants, have been performed at a rapidly rising rate since 9/11. Covert Tactics Sneak and Peek warrants in actuality a more extreme version of the over-used “no-knock” raids that we cover so often. After seeking out a judge’s authorization, police are allowed to secretly break into private property without first announcing themselves or presenting the subject of the search with a signed warrant. Using this variety of warrant, officers ...

Obama Suffers 12th Unanimous Defeat at Supreme Court President Obama’s team suffered their twelfth unanimous defeat at the Supreme Court in the legal challenge to the so-called recess appointments made when Congress was not actually in recess, a string of defeats that only represents “the tip of the iceberg,” according to Senator Mike Lee (R., Utah). “Not every case in which the president has exceeded his authority has made it all the way to the Supreme Court,” Lee, a former law clerk to Justice Samuel Alito, told National Review Online. “The fact that his track record is as bad as it is in the Supreme Court . . . is yet another indication of the fact that ...

Mass. SWAT teams claim they’re private companies and don’t have to tell you anything

After the ACLU sent open records requests as part of its investigative report on police militarization, SWAT teams in Massachusetts claimed they were exempt because they were private corporations. Some SWAT teams in the state operate as law enforcement councils, or LECs, which are funded by several police departments and overseen by an executive board largely made up of local police chiefs. Member police departments pay annual membership dues to the LECs, which share technology and oversee crime scene investigators or other specialists. Some of these LECs have also incorporated 501(c)(3) organizations, which they say exempts them from open records requests. “Let’s be ...

New Crypto-Fascist Laws for “Our Own Good” The initiative “Sunshine in Government” has sent a letter to various senators manning the “Select Committee on Intelligence”, pointing out to them that the proposed CISA Act (the full Orwellian name of which is “Cybersecurity in Information Sharing Act 2014”) is apt to destroy what little is left of the “free press” (i.e., it seems the corporate media are apparently still given the benefit of the doubt by some). It would probably be better to name it the “Anti Snowden Act”, as its purpose appears mainly to protect the government and prevent it from losing face in the future by having its ...

Hypocrites: Democrats are fundraising off of Obama abusing his executive powers

The staffers at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) were busy yesterday cranking out fundraising emails to supporters, sending a grand total of eight emails to their list. House Democrats’ campaign arm sends one, maybe two, emails asking for money in any given day, usually with a subject that expresses some sense of urgency or a mention of the Koch brothers to grab would-be donors’ attention. On Wednesday, however, the DCCC sent eight emails, four of which made reference to the lawsuit Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) plans to file over President Barack Obama’s illegal executive actions. The barrage of emails related to the lawsuit started off at 12:22 pm: ...

16 Ways the Supreme Court Built the Police State and Destroyed Your Rights

“[I]f the individual is no longer to be sovereign, if the police can pick him up whenever they do not like the cut of his jib, if they can ‘seize’ and ‘search’ him in their discretion, we enter a new regime. The decision to enter it should be made only after a full debate by the people of this country.”—U.S. Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas The U.S. Supreme Court was intended to be an institution established to intervene and protect the people against the government and its agents when they overstep their bounds. Yet as I point out in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, Americans can no longer rely on the courts to ...

10 Facts About The SWATification Of America That Everyone Should Know SWAT team raids more than 25 times higher than in 1980

The number of SWAT team raids in the United States every year is now more than 25 times higher than it was back in 1980. As America has conducted wars overseas in recent years, our police forces have become increasingly militarized as well. And without a doubt, many of our cities have become much more dangerous places. Thanks to relentless illegal immigration, drug cartels are thriving and there are now at least 1.4 million gang members living in the United States. But there are many that believe that the militarization of our police forces has gone way too far. Almost weekly, SWAT team brutality somewhere in America makes national headlines. You are about to read about a couple of horrific ...

Last week, Barack Obama outlined a plan to infringe on your Second Amendment rights through regulatory fiat -- Presidential Executive Orders. He outlined a new “mental health” plan to strip you of your gun rights without a trial and without you even being notified. Mike Hammond, a former high-level Senate staffer and political strategist, wrote an excellent piece this week detailing exactly what Obama’s new agenda is -- stripping Americans of their rights under the guise of “mental health.” His plan could strip the gun rights of millions of our nation’s military veterans. Hammond is a long-time friend and adviser to NAGR, as well as to GOA and a myriad of ...

The U.S. Supreme Court Is Marching in Lockstep with the Police State

The U.S. Supreme Court was intended to be an institution established to intervene and protect the people against the government and its agents when they overstep their bounds. Yet as I point out in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, Americans can no longer rely on the courts to mete out justice. In the police state being erected around us, the police and other government agents can probe, poke, pinch, taser, search, seize, strip and generally manhandle anyone they see fit in almost any circumstance, all with the general blessing of the courts. A review of the Supreme Court’s rulings over the past 10 years, including some critical ones this term, ...

The Education Establishment's Success

Many view America’s education as a failure, but in at least one important way, it’s been a success — a success in dumbing down the nation so that we fall easy prey to charlatans, hustlers and quacks. You say, “Williams, that’s insulting! Explain yourself.” OK, let’s start with a question or two. Are you for or against global warming, later renamed climate change and more recently renamed climate disruption? Environmentalists have renamed it because they don’t want to look silly in the face of cooling temperatures. About 650 million years ago, the Earth was frozen from pole to pole, a period scientists call Snowball Earth. The Earth is no longer ...

LEAWOOD, Kan. —A 9-year-old Leawood boy is doing his part to promote reading, but he's hit a roadblock. Leawood city leaders have told Spencer Collins that he has to stop sharing books with his neighbors. Collins had to take down his little free library, essentially a communal bookshelf, on Wednesday. The motto of the sharing center had been "take a book, leave a book," but Collins learned there's a lot less give and take in city government. Collins loves reading. He doesn't just dive into a book -- he swims through its pages. "It's kind of like I'm in a whole other world and I like that," he said. "I like adventure stories because ...

Milwaukee sets up anonymous ‘gun hotline’ so you can report neighbors with ‘illegal’ guns

Last Monday, Milwaukee Wisconsin Mayor Tom Barrett announced the creation of an anonymous ‘gun hotline’ — where residents can call and anonymously leave information about people who have ‘illegal’ guns. Since the hotline was created, police say they’ve received about a dozen calls. “We expect some good results to come out of it. Any time we can encourage citizens and people who can provide us with information,” MPD Captain Chad Wagner said. You can leave information about someone you believe possesses a gun ‘illegally’ — and you can do so without leaving your name or phone number. Messages are monitored by the Milwaukee Police ...

We’re treated like slaves because we agreed to be slaves June 19, 2014 by James White NorthWest Liberty News As one peels back the layers of information about who we really are as individuals, the evidence that we have been hoodwinked by those in charge keeps piling up. I think that many of us inherently know that TPTB are corrupt, and we can tell that they are lying because their lips are moving. However, the manner in which they have “flipped the script” never ceases to amaze me. As you will see in the companion video by Ron Gibson, it cannot be more clearly laid out that we have all, out of ignorance, voluntarily given up our rights and assimilated into the Corporate ...

After a Connecticut high school student was given an assignment to discuss the merits of gun control, he learned that it was going to be difficult to get both sides of the argument while on campus. That’s because his school restricted access to conservative information outlets, according to student Andrew Lampart. Lampart told reporters that he started doing research for a gun-related assignment in his Nonnewaug High School “Law and You” class only to find that the National Rifle Association, The Blaze, the Connecticut GOP website, the website for a Sarah Palin PAC, Town Hall , RedState and other conservative portals of information were blocked by his school’s SonicWALL ...

Shut the NSA's Backdoor to the Internet An amendment is being voted on in the House of Representatives today or tomorrow. If passed, it would close critical backdoors that allow the NSA to surveil the Internet. What backdoors would be closed?Backdoor Searches of US Citizens' Internet Usage What's happening: The NSA collects emails, browsing and chat history under Section 702 of the FISA Amendments Act, and searches this information without a warrant for the communications of Americans—a practice known as "backdoor searches." The fix: The amendment would block the NSA from using any of its funding from the Defense Appropriations Bill to conduct such warrantless ...

Judge Finds Courts Cannot Protect US Citizens Tortured by US Government Officials Abroad

A federal district court dismissed a case that was brought by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of a United States citizen and against US government officials who allegedly tortured, abused and subjected him to rendition and incommunicado detention in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia. The dismissal was another stark example of how it is nearly impossible for torture victims to push for justice in an American court of law. Amir Meshal was in the Horn of Africa when, on January 24, 2007, Kenyan soldiers captured and interrogated him. He was “hooded, handcuffed and flown to Nairobi, where he was taken to the Ruai Police Station and questioned by an officer of Kenya’s Criminal ...

SAN DIEGO – Veterans were horrified while seeking VA health care on Wednesday when approached by Homeland Security police in an Operation Shield exercise. The exercise was for the purpose of “presence deterrence” at a VA health care facility in San Diego. Many veterans’ legal advocates are concerned about what this “presence deterrence” actually means and what it seeks to accomplish for veterans needing care. According to reports, 20 officers from the DHS Federal Protective Service (FPS) dressed in full black combat gear crowded at the entrance of VA Mission Valley Health Care Clinic on Wednesday. These officers were not wearing any name tags and refused to ...

State Bills to Arrest Federal Agents: A Poison Pill

“We want nullification with teeth!” The thought of a local sheriff or state police troopers swooping in and arresting federal agents as they violate the Constitution carries great emotional appeal. In fact, some activists insist that real nullification legislation must include criminal penalties for feds. They call bills without penalty “teeth” “watered down,” claiming they “don’t really do anything. “ Some groups and individuals will go as far as to actively oppose legislation that fails to direct state law enforcement to arrest federal agents. But as much as we might like to see our friendly neighborhood ATF agent sitting in the back of a ...
