Disgraceful NYT Op-Eds

Disgraceful NYT Op-Eds by Stephen Lendman NYT policy is consistent. It's longstanding. It's deplorable. It's opposite of what readers deserve. All news and opinions Times editors call fit to print aren't fit to read. Editorial policy endorses establishment values. Truth and full disclosure are prohibited. They're sacrificed on the alter of wealth, power and privilege. Wrong over right is supported. Scoundrels get feature op-ed space. Mohammed bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz al Saud is Saudi Arabia's UK ambassador. He's a royal House of Saud member. He's part of one of the world's most repressive regimes. Last December, Times editors gave him featured op-ed ...

Two false charges in Electra, Texas. Prosecutor tries to add more at pretrial. And so much more.

Published on Feb 10, 2014 I verbally objected to an unconstitutional search of my vehicle in Electra, Texas. Police officers Matt Wood and Gary Ellis maliciously responded by issuing me two false citations. I got a copy of the dashboard-camera video at the pretrial hearing. It showed all. City attorney Todd Greenwood demanded I give my copy of the evidence back, and tried to have me arrested when I refused. Todd Greenwood then compared rural Texas to the movie Deliverance, and warned me "What's written down in the Constitution is one thing, and the real practice is another." All charges dropped. Section 1983 anyone? Poster Comment:It's 18 minutes of the bad side of ...

Obama Administration Calmly Debates Killing More Americans

The critical reader could be forgiven for feeling like he or she had stepped into a surreal universe while reading The New York Times on Tuesday? When he read, in a demure column on the left-hand side, that the U.S. was debating slaughtering another American by drone strike. And that this “debate” was occurring in the hallowed halls of justice where according to the U.S. Constitution our duly elected leaders shoulder the not inconsiderable burden of ensuring not only our safety, but also our recourse to a fair trial should we fall foul of the law. That before we are tossed into that mixer of ruinous injustice known as the American penal system, our accusers must bring clear ...

Grand Theft Healthcare

Grand Theft Healthcare by Stephen Lendman Healthcare is about prioritizing health. Medical professionals say it's about maintaining, restoring and preserving it. It's doing it through illness and disease prevention. It's obeying Hippocratic Oath principles. It's a sworn duty to heal. It's about rendering treatments effectively. It's doing it responsibly. It's doing no harm. Obamacare is polar opposite. Numerous previous articles explained. Marketplace medicine doesn't work. Obamacare is a healthcare rationing scheme. It's a boon to predatory providers. It enriches insurers, drug companies and large hospital chains. It does so at the expense of ...

Obama's Kill List

Obama's Kill List by Stephen Lendman Obama heads an administration Murder, Inc. agenda. He appointed himself judge, jury and executioner. He targets anyone, anywhere for any reason or none at all. US citizens are vulnerable like foreign nationals. Murdering them in cold blood is one Obama signature away. Drones are his weapon of choice. They're instruments of state terror. They target alleged enemies half a world away or nearby. Rule of law principles don't matter. Obama makes his own rules. Despots govern this way. He operates like the worst of them. He does so with technological ease. The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) says Obama's kill list mocks due process ...

Dead Souls In the Republican Leadership

"America cannot become the world and still be America." So warned the late Harvard political scientist Samuel Huntington in his 2004 article "America's Dead Souls." Huntington's article was prophetic, and it explains why some GOP pols have taken the side of big business and illegal immigrants over the interests of our nation. "In a variety of ways, the American establishment, governmental and private, has become increasingly divorced from the American people," Huntington wrote. Huntington's core point was that the American elite has grown extremely distant -- socially, economically, morally, and politically -- from the public. This trend, he ...

The Center for American Progress and the Nullify NSA Movement

The Freedom Not To Buy In The prominent Democratic website Think Progress recently took aim at the anti- NSA surveillance movement with a warning to “Beware of Libertarians Bearing Gifts”. The blog suggests bipartisan alliances between civil liberties advocates and libertarians will sink the New Deal, which some might say is already taking on a bit of water. The direct target of authors Zack Beauchamp and Ian Millhiser is the Offnow.org coalition, a partnership anchored by the right-wing Tenth Amendment Center and the left-wing Bill of Rights Defense Committee. (Disclaimer: Media Alliance, my organization, recently joined the coalition). The premise of Offnow is local ...

Obama Violates Iran Geneva Agreement - Again

Obama Violates Iran Geneva Agreement - Again by Stephen Lendman On November 24, Iran and P5+1 countries agreed on nuclear Joint Plan of Action provisions. Interim agreement terms run six months. On January 20, implementation began. Obama twice committed breaches. More on his latest one below. America's agreements aren't worth the paper they're written on. US history proves it. It's strewn with broken promises. Betrayal is longstanding US policy. Its word isn't its bond. Duplicity defines America. One treaty obligation after another is breached. Hegemons operate this way. Washington is by far the worst. Iranians aren't surprised. They endured 35 years of US ...

Low Wage America

Low Wage America by Stephen Lendman Welcome to low-wage America. Lousy jobs, rotten pay, eroding benefits, and poor working conditions reflect things for growing millions. Most workers live from paycheck to paycheck. They have few or no savings. They're trapped in financial insecurity. They struggle to survive out of sight and mind. They do so to cover bare essentials. They're hard-pressed to do it. They're more than ever debt entrapped. They're increasingly on their own. They're one missed payday from possible destitution, homelessness, hunger and despair. Raising the minimum wage obscures things. Debating it crowds out reality. Where have all the good jobs gone? ...

Washington's Dirty Game by Stephen Lendman Washington can't hide its dark side. It's too ugly to conceal. Its been exposed numerous times. Here we go again. Assistant Secretary of State for European and European Affairs Victoria Nuland was caught red-handed. More on this below. She's hardcore neocon. She's a career foreign service officer. She's worked with Democrat and Republican administrations. Early in her career, she covered Russian internal politics at Washington's Moscow embassy. She served on the Soviet Desk in Washington. She worked in the State Department's Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. She served in Guangzhou, China. She was ...

The New Dark Age

Don’t say we didn’t warn you... For years, this space has been arguing – railing, really – that the ideological and legal currents unleashed by America’s response to the 9/11 attacks have been leading us down the road to dictatorship: see here, here, here, and here. Back in those halcyon days, circa 2007 and much earlier, it was easy to dismiss such charges as the mental effluvia of the somewhat overwrought libertarian imagination: after all, if we’re headed for an authoritarian order of Orwellian proportions, then where are the Thought Police? What we didn’t know was that they were lurking in the woodwork all along – spying on us, recording our ...

Bernanke at Brookings by Stephen Lendman On January 31, he stepped down as Fed chairman. Janet Yellen replaced him. He's entering a new world of million-dollar book deals. He'll make $100,000 a pop speeches. Expect appointments to corporate boards. CEOs value his rainmaking services. On February 3, Brookings headlined "Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to Join Economic Studies at Brookings." He's a "Distinguished Fellow in Residence." He's affiliated with the Hutchins Center on Fiscal and Monetary Policy (HCFMP). On January 16, Brookings launched it. Its board of trustees vice chair Glenn Hutchins contributed $10 million in seed money. He ...

Farm Bill Fiasco by Stephen Lendman On January 29, House members passed HR 2642: Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013. On February 4, Senate members followed suit. Farm Bill legislation awaits Obama's signature. It's imminent. On February 4, a White House statement said: "Statement by the President" "Today, in a strong bipartisan vote, the US Senate came together to pass a comprehensive Farm Bill - legislation that will build on the historic economic gains in rural America over the past five years, create new jobs and opportunities, and protect the most vulnerable Americans."   "This bill provides certainty to America’s ...

Texas Deputy Killed in Dawn No-Knock Drug Raid

A Burleson County, Texas, sheriff's deputy leading a dawn, no-knock drug raid was shot and killed by the homeowner last Thursday. Sgt. Adam Sowders becomes the 40th person to die in US domestic drug law enforcement operations so far this year. Although Sowders was killed early last Thursday morning, we delayed reporting the story because the sheriff's department refused for several days to release search warrant information that would have verified it was indeed a drug-related search warrant. According to the Bryan-College Station Eagle, Sowders had obtained a search warrant for the residence after obtaining information that the homeowner was growing marijuana and possibly had ...

Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said that the new Congressional Full Employment Caucus will “give President Obama a number of executive orders that he can sign.” Jackson Lee added that writing up executive orders “should be our number one agenda.” “We will be answering the call of all of America because people need work and we’re not doing right by them by creating work,” the Texas congresswoman said. “I believe this caucus will put us on the right path and we’ll give President Obama a number of executive orders that he can sign with pride and strength,” Jackson said Jan. 29 at a press conference where she and fellow Democrats launched ...

Scalia: Internment Camps Could Happen Again
Post Date: 2014-02-05 07:54:54 by Ada

'In Times of War, the Laws Fall Silent' Speaking to law students at the University of Hawaii today, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia discussed the Korematsu v. United States ruling of 1944, which affirmed the right of the US government to force people into internment camps regardless of citizenship. Scalia said it was wrong for the court to make that ruling, and said the case has since been repudiated. At the same time, he cautioned that people are “kidding themselves” if they think the same thing couldn’t happen again. “In times of war, the laws fall silent,” Scalia said, adding that he would “not be surprised to see it happen again, in time of ...

Taking on the Cartels By Absolute Rights Contributor on February 3, 2014 Deputized Mexican vigilantes take on the drug cartels. Greetings Fellow Patriots, As I sat outside of my local coffee shop the other day enjoying a smoke, a liberal idiot adorned in a pit stained tee shirt, pants tight enough to be deemed a birth control device and a smug look on his face attempted to chastise me about his innocent virgin lungs and the untold destruction I was causing the environment. My…how our country has changed. As idiots like this one multiply like roaches, American values go whooshing down the toilet. Perhaps the most alarming recent evidence of this fact comes from Mexico…a ...

Cass Sunstein is scary – and scared Whatever else one might say about Cass Sunstein, he surely knows who his enemies are. The former head of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs and member of the President’s panel on NSA "reforms" – infamous for his suggestion that government agents should "cognitively infiltrate" alleged "conspiracy-minded" groups – is out with a new one, this time aimed at "paranoid libertarianism." Taking up where Princeton University historian and Clintonista Sean Wilentz left off, Sunstein avers: "It can be found on the political right, in familiar objections to gun control, ...

He wants Washington deciding Syria's future. He wants it colonized for profit. He wants Ukraine exploited the same way. He supports ultranationalist extremists. New York Ending Stop and Frisk? by Stephen Lendman Stop-and-frisk is longstanding New York City policy. It's blatantly racist. It targets Blacks and Latinos. It's unconstitutional. It violates privacy rights. In 2012 alone, nearly 700,000 people were affected. Ray Kelly was New York's longest serving police commissioner. He served from January 1, 2002 to December 31, 2013. He lied calling stop and frisk effective. Clear evidence proves otherwise. The vast majority of those stopped are innocent victims. They're targeted based on race and ethnicity. They committed no crimes. On January 30, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said: "We're here today to turn the page ...
