In Naperville, IL, two mothers were arrested last week for refusing to allow utility workers to install controversial smart meters on their homes. The citys new Naperville Smart Grid Initiative requires new controversial smart meters to be installed in every home. Residents opposed to the smart meters have been fighting the initiative for over two years. Jennifer Stahl, an advocate against the smart meters initiative, told The Blaze she was protecting her property when she refused to allow the smart meter installer install the device. She felt like a momma bear protecting her babies, she recalled. Many opponents to the meters worry about the type of data ...

Obama's War on Whistleblowers by Stephen Lendman At perhaps the most perilous time in world history, exposing vital truths takes on greater urgency than ever. Freedom in America is endangered. Truth telling and dissent increasingly aren't tolerate. Whistleblowers are called threats to national security. The ACLU says "leak detection, prevention, and punishment is cause for alarm." "National security must be protected and properly classified information must be kept safe. However, this cannot be at the expense of a free, open and informed society." Harry Truman once said: "When even one American - who has done nothing wrong - is forced by fear to shut ...
Emanuel To Banks: Stop Supporting Gun Makers Post Date: 2013-01-27 00:24:11 by F.A. Hayek Fan

CHICAGO (CBS) Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is putting more pressure on gun makers to get behind his push for an assault weapons ban and criminal background checks for gun purchasers. This time, he wants to go after their bottom line. Emanuel is pushing two major financial institutions to stop their financial backing of gun makers, unless those companies support commonsense reforms, including requiring criminal background checks on all gun sales. The mayor is urging that banks to stop lines of credit, financing for acquisitions and expansions and financial advising. In a letter sent Friday to the CEOs of Bank Of America and TD Bank, Emanuel said: In the past, the ...

Million Man Armed March For The 2nd Amendment On State Capitals Planned For FebruarySaturday, January 26, 2013 3:04 A story on Smash Pipe confirms an email we recently received; a peaceful, armed, million man march is being planned to take place on February 8th, 2013 upon State Capitals around the country. An 'armed' march upon Washington DC is also being planned, though the 'arms' won't be the kind that you think, as most firearms are illegal in Washington DC. (Hint: Why do I think that bubble guns are suddenly going to be a hot seller over the next 2 weeks?) From Smash Pipe: As a PEACEFUL act of protest, WE, The People, on February 8th, ...
Kim Dotcom Wants To Encrypt Half of the Internet To End Government Surveillance Post Date: 2013-01-26 10:05:59 by Ada

In an in-depth interview, Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom discusses the investigation against his now-defunct file-storage site, his possible extradition to the US, the future of Internet freedoms and his latest project Mega with RTs Andrew Blake. The United States government says that Dotcom, a German millionaire formerly known as Kim Schmitz, masterminded a vast criminal conspiracy by operating the file-storage site Megaupload. Dotcom, on the other hand, begs to differ. One year after the high-profile raid of his home and the shut-down and seizure of one of the most popular sites on the Web, Dotcom hosted a launch party for his latest endeavor, simply called Mega. On the ...

Wall Street's in Good Hands with Mary Jo White by Stephen Lendman On January 24, Obama nominated Mary Jo White as SEC head. "You don't want to mess with Mary Jo," he said. Others have different views. More about her below. Washington is Wall Street occupied territory. Regulatory oversight is absent. Earlier New Deal reforms are gone. The Securities and Exchange Act of 1934 followed the Securities Act of 1933. Under the Constitution's interstate commerce clause, it required offers and security sales to be registered. State "blue sky laws" previously governed them. The 1934 law regulated secondary trading of financial securities. It established the SEC ...
Targeting Younas Abdullah Muhammad Post Date: 2013-01-25 12:49:18 by Stephen Lendman

Targeting Younas Abdullah Muhammad by Stephen Lendman American disparagement of Muslims is longstanding. In his book "Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People," Jack Shaheen said they've been denigrated throughout decades of cinematic history. From silent films to recent ones, they advance prejudicial attitudes. They reinforce malicious stereotypes. They foster notions of Western values, high-mindedness, and moral superiority. Post-9/11, the gloves came off. Fear-mongering replaced reason. It's used for political advantage. Muslims are maliciously targeted. They're characterized as gun-toting terrorists. Rule of law principles don't matter. Innocent ...

Ill or well makes no difference. Alberto Barrera Tyszka and Cristina Macano are unapologetic. They represent neoliberal corporate views. They got feature New York Times op-ed space. They headlined "Chavez, the missing President," saying: Venezuela is "experiencing the very odd circumstance of being both with and without its leader; he is not here, but his voice endures." He "gives orders and sends kisses to children. This is what his vice president says. According to the Supreme ...

The Untouchables: How the Obama Administration Protected Wall Street from Prosecutions A new PBS Frontline report examines a profound failure of justice that should be causing serious social unrest By Glenn Greenwald January 24, 2013 "The Guardian" -- PBS' Frontline program on Tuesday night broadcast a new one-hour report on one of the greatest and most shameful failings of the Obama administration: the lack of even a single arrest or prosecution of any senior Wall Street banker for the systemic fraud that precipitated the 2008 financial crisis: a crisis from which millions of people around the world are still suffering. What this program particularly demonstrated was that ...

Senator Dianne Feinstein unveiled her promised attack against the Second Amendment Thursday on Capitol Hill. The legislation she has proposed following the Sandy Hook massacre last month will reinstate and significantly extend the federal ban on so-called assault weapons that expired in 2004. The purpose is to dry up the supply of these weapons over time, Feinstein said. Therefore, there is no sunset on this bill. Obama has vowed to sign Feinstein's legislation if it clears significant hurdles in Congress. Feinstein assembled an all-star cast to call for unconstitutionally rolling back the gun rights of millions of Americans. Those in attendance included ...
Honesty is Not a Job Requirement for Police Officers* Post Date: 2013-01-24 13:47:14 by James Deffenbach

If you lie to a police officer, you can be charged with a crime. When not ifa police officer lies to you, hes carrying out a legitimate function of his job. Thats what former prosecutor Val Van Brocklin explained in an essay published by Officer.com. Former Seattle Police Chief Norm Stamper estimates that the typical police officer will lie several times during his daily duty shift. In a 2009 ruling, the Washington State Supreme Court upheld a decision by an arbitrator reversing the termination of Kitsap County Sherriffs deputy who had been fired for lying and other misconduct. The court agreed that honesty was not an essential function of a law enforcement ...

"And, to you tough-talking Neo-Cons with your AR-15 rifles and a few thousand rounds of ammo, here is reality: they will take your guns, and no, all your Second Amendment bluster aside, you are not going to do anything about it. You are not going to take on a platoon of Marines with state of the art automatic weapons and the best body armor you cannot buy protected by armed personnel carriers and attack helicopters unless you choose to die that day for nothing. You will either be in the country or out, and if you are in, you will stay in and you will comply. That is your choice . . . for the moment." I wrote that last year for The Dollar Vigilante in an article entitled ...

Lynne Stewart's Struggle for Justice Continues by Stephen Lendman Numerous previous articles discussed her case, character, and dedication to rule of law principles. She's an internationally recognized human rights lawyer. She tirelessly worked for justice. She devoted her life and work to upholding principles too important to reject. She knew the risks and took them. She did so because it matters. For 30 years, she defended America's poor, underprivileged, unwanted, and forgotten. Without advocates like her, they never have a chance for due process and judicial fairness. She was targeted for representing clients prosecutors want convicted. One case made her especially ...

Inaugural Hypocrisy by Stephen Lendman A previous article discussed America's quadrennial exercise in hypocrisy. It's institutionalized. It conceals the nation's dark side. Pomp and circumstance hide neoliberal harshness. War is portrayed as peace. Lawless government is called legitimate. Democracy never existed and doesn't now. Freedom in America is endangered. Bipartisan complicity plans destroying it altogether. America is on a fast track toward tyranny and ruin. Police state laws threaten everyone. Activism and dissent are marginalized. Increasingly they're not tolerated. Supporting what's right is called dangerous to national security. Peaceful ...

Four More Years by Stephen Lendman Inaugurating US presidents quadrennially reflects institutionalized hypocrisy. On January 20, Obama began term two. After all the harm he caused so many, imagine how much more he plans. He broke every major campaign promise made. He mocks legitimate governance. He lawlessly serves powerful monied interests. They own him. He spurns peace. He's waging multiple direct and proxy wars. He's got new targets in mind. He supports some of the world's most ruthless despots. He spends more on militarism than all other countries combined. He's done it when the only enemies America has are ones it invents. He institutionalized tyranny. He targets ...

A woman held in jail for 11 days for contempt of court after cursing in the county clerk's office won't be prosecuted by the Berrien County prosecutor, but the case is not over. Prosecutor Art Cotter says his office doesn't believe the contempt citation can be legally sustained against LaRue Ford. Berrien County Judge Dennis Wiley found Ford in contempt of court and had her arrested last month after a clerk told Wiley she used bad language at the clerk's office in Niles while trying to clear up a traffic fine. She spent 11 days in jail, including Christmas day. The South Bend woman's attorney filed a motion to have Judge Wiley removed from the case earlier this week, ...

This morning, as the New York Police Department monitors our article about their Commissioner Raymond Kelly lying about past NY gun confiscations on national radio, a startling new document has been revealed. Despite repeated denials from gun-control advocates insisting that no gun confiscations willl take place, Page 3 of an official New York State document entitled NY SAFE FACT SHEET - GUN OWNERS - WHAT THE LAW MEANS TO YOU states that gun-owners must surrender certain property. The document, located at http://www.nysenate.gov/files/pdfs/NYSAFE-Fact-Sheet.pdf specifically calls for owners of certain magazines to "surrender it to law enforcement officials" within a year of ...

Republicans and conservative Americans are still fighting Big Government in its welfare state form. Apparently, they have never heard of the militarized police state form of Big Government, or, if they have, they are comfortable with it and have no objection. Republicans, including those in the House and Senate, are content for big government to initiate wars without a declaration of war or even Congress assent, and to murder with drones citizens of countries with which Washington is not at war. Republicans do not mind that federal security agencies spy on American citizens without warrants and record every email, Internet site visited, Facebook posting, cell phone call, ...

Nationwide ammo shortage so severe that even cops can't buy bullets; ammo rationing imminent by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor (NaturalNews) One of the great myths of modern society is that the police are heavily armed and have both ammo and personnel in huge numbers. In reality, it's quite the opposite: police and sheriffs are dangerously under-staffed all across the country in nearly every city and town. Furthermore, severe budget cuts have left law enforcement with dwindling ammunition supplies. In some departments, it's so bad that nearly the only ammo available is what officers are carrying on their duty belts. And now it has just gotten far worse. ...
