Bahraini State Terror

Bahraini State Terror by Stephen Lendman Al-Khalifa despots run Bahrain. State terror is official policy. Washington supports it. Generous aid is provided. King Hamad remains a close US ally. Double standard hypocrisy defines America's foreign and domestic agenda. Bahrainis want democratic change. They want popularly elected leaders. They want despotic monarchal rule, ruthless persecution, widespread corruption, and Shia discrimination ended. For many months, they've braved tear gas, beatings, rubber bullets, live fire, arrests, torture, imprisonments, and disappearances. They won't quit. The price of freedom is high. King Hamad calls peaceful protests "foreign ...

Due to the recent criminal events in Connecticut, certain rights are again in jeopardy. Almost immediately after the little ones in Newtown were sent home by a mentally ill killer, we are told that our gun rights need to be curtailed. We are told that the Supreme Court is likely to take up the question of gun rights, whether we have the right to carry a gun. We are told that we might not have the right to carry guns outside our houses and that the high court will decide. If the Supreme Court decides what our rights are, we have nine rulers, unelected oligarchs wearing black robes. Aren’t we supposed to have unalienable rights? Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, or as John ...

OWS Activists Called Domestic Terrorists
Post Date: 2012-12-26 02:52:46 by Stephen Lendman

OWS Activists Called Domestic Terrorists by Stephen Lendman US history is littered with repressive laws. Constitutional protections and civil liberties have been targeted. The 1798 Alien and Sedition Acts restricted First Amendment freedoms. So did the 1917 Espionage Act, 1919 anti-communist Palmer raids, 1934 Special Committee on Un- American Activities, its House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) successor, FBI COINTELPRO crackdowns, 1996 Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act, 2001 USA Patriot Act, and other post-9/11 measures. Police state harshness today reflects US policy. Compromised civil liberties expanded government surveillance, eroded habeas rights, formalized ...

Austin Cops Arrest Santa For Being Nice and Chalking 'Peace' on Sidewalk

Occupy Austin held a rally for "acclaimed Arctic peace activist Kris Kringle" after he was arrested by Texas state troopers for chalking incendiary words like ‘Community,’ ‘Peace,’ ‘Grace’ and 'Friendship' on the sidewalk with children who had gathered for the event. After wrestling Santa to the ground and handcuffing him, more and more (visibly sheepish) troopers arrive, pushing back bystanders and eventually arresting an elf for chalking “Free Santa.” Videos by unhappy incredulous observers shouting, "You're arresting Santa Claus?!" Maybe Texas should secede after all. Click for Full Text & Videos!Poster ...

White House Petition To Deport Piers Morgan Passes Threshold, Now At 60,000 Signatures

Frankly we have no idea what this is all about, because as far as we are concerned, CNN long ago became a politicized, ratings-starved farce, wrapped in a joke inside a humiliation (after once upon a time being the only go to place for objective breaking news), but it is rather funny. The Hill reports that "a White House petition calling for the deportation of CNN personality Piers Morgan, a U.K. citizen, over his recent comments criticizing U.S. gun laws rocketed past the 25,000 signatures it needed for an official response Monday. As of this writing, nearly 40,000 people had signed a petition demanding “Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of ...

Don’t Disarm the Mentally Ill

The school shooting in Connecticut last week has provoked a slew of hysterical calls for gun control in the United States. Big surprise, I know. What makes the calls for "regulation" and "sensible gun laws" somewhat unique this time around is the focus on mental illness. The fact that the Connecticut shooter is alleged to have been mentally ill is being used by some as an argument for further disarming the mentally ill in general. (It is also interesting that so little focus has hitherto been placed on the dangerous drugs these shooters are all taking, rather than mental illness itself). Gun rights groups have understandably steered clear of the mental illness issue. ...

Institutionalizing Indefinite Detention

Institutionalizing Indefinite Detention by Stephen Lendman Since taking office, Obama authorized numerous police state measures. They follow earlier ones under George Bush. They're heading America for full-blown tyranny. It's already a hair's breadth away. It could arrive any time full force. It's been wrapped in the American flag all along. Most people don't know how seriously their rights are compromised. Thousands of political prisoners in America's gulag hell testify about police state harshness. Much worse ahead looms. On March 7, 2011, Obama's Executive Order 13567 authorized indefinite detentions and military commission trials. Doing so violated ...

Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, assisted by police, moved in on Riverview Sales at 4 Prospect Hill Road in East Windsor at around 5:15 p.m., reported Len Besthoff of CBS 2 sister station WFSB in Hartford. Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 children and six adults with a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle in Newtown last ...

Fiscal Cliff Reality

Fiscal Cliff Reality by Stephen Lendman Political Washington theater continues. Republicans and Democrats agreed years ago to erode America's social contract en route to eliminating it altogether. Crisis conditions create opportunities. Former White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, explained. "You never want to let a serious crisis go to waste," he said. "What I mean by that is that's an opportunity to do things you couldn't do before." He didn't mean populist ones. He had harsh neoliberal ones in mind. They're institutionalized. Ordinary people and America's most disadvantaged suffer most. The worst is yet to come. Both sides agree. ...

If Obama Is Opposed To Guns, Why Did His Administration Just Purchase 1.6 Billion Rounds of Ammunition and Sniper Rounds?

"An evil exists that threatens every man, woman and child of this great nation. We must take steps to ensure our domestic security and protect our homeland." - Adolf Hitler, 1922. In the aftermath of the recent Sandy Hook shooting, Obama and his cohorts are screaming about how they all despise guns and ammo. Guns are the problem in America today, we've been told from every corner of the media, and so the only solution is to get rid of all the guns. But not exactly. There's one organization in America that's loading up on masses of assault rifles and enough ammunition to run a 10-year shooting war. That organization is, of course, the U.S. federal government and its ...

Obama/Boehner Two-Step

Obama/Boehner Two-Step by Stephen Lendman Previous articles explained fiscal cliff duplicity in detail. At issue is destroying America's social contract. Both parties agreed early in Obama's first term. They plan killing it incrementally by a 1,000 cuts. Class war rages. Private wealth and power are pitted against essential public needs. Property rights, individualism, and free-market mumbo jumbo hammer ordinary people mercilessly. Neoliberal harshness reflects it. Warren Buffet once said, "There's class warfare, all right, but it's my class, the rich class, that's winning." Obama, Boehner and complicit congressional leaders agree. Plans are to give ...

Martial Law in One City: The Case of Paragould, Arkansas

"The fear is what's given us the reason to do this,” insisted Todd Stovall, the head functionary of the paramilitary occupation force afflicting Paragould, Arkansas, as he announced that the city would be placed under martial law for the supposed purpose of deterring crime. “Once I have stats and people are saying they're scared, we can do this. It allows us to do what we're fixing to do." What Stovall and his fellow tax-feeders are “fixing to do” is to leave the city’s streets clotted with SWAT operators toting AR-15s and official permission to harass anybody who comes within eyeshot. The marauders “are going to be in SWAT gear and ...

New York Times Fiscal Cliff Duplicity

New York Times Fiscal Cliff Duplicity by Stephen Lendman A previous article explained what's at stake. Both parties agree on destroying America's social contract. Fiscal cliff hokum conceals their agenda. Media scoundrels don't explain. Ongoing debate refers to expiring yearend tax breaks and unemployment benefits. Automatic sequestered/largely discretionary yearend $1.2 trillion in cuts address them for starters. Trillions more will follow. Bipartisan agreement occurred long ago. Daily reports conceal what's ongoing and planned. Ordinary households will be hardest hit. Wall Street, war profiteers, other corporate favorites, and America's super-rich can rest easy. ...

MSNBC Host: Right to Work Came From 'Segregationist White Supremacist South'

(CNSNews.com) – MSNBC’s Chris Hayes said on Sunday he is “uncomfortable” using the phrase “right-to-work” because it has its origins in the “segregationist white supremacist south.” “I’m not going to use the phrase [right to work] that is commonly used because it is such a ridiculous—let me just give people a little bit of history here,” Hayes said on his show, “Up With Chris Hayes.” He made the comment in connection with Michigan’s new right-to-work law. “The phrase is coined by a guy by the name of Vance Muse, who is an oil industry lobbyist in Houston, Texas in the 1930s who is a white supremacist and ...

Fiscal Cliff Doublespeak Duplicity by Stephen Lendman As issue is destroying social America, increasing the unprecedented wealth disparity, punishing ordinary households, impoverishing growing millions, and providing limitless funding for militarism, imperial wars, and corporate favorites. Also ahead is toughening police state harshness against non-believers. America's at the precipice of full-blown tyranny. Washington's fiscal cliff debate is doublespeak deception. Republicans and Democrats share guilt. Language refers to expiring yearend tax breaks and unemployment benefits. It's also about sequestered/largely discretionary yearend $1.2 trillion in cuts coming to address ...

Berkeley's Free Speech Movement by Stephen Lendman Free expression in all forms are fundamental in democratic societies. All other freedoms are risked without free speech, a free press, freedom of thought, culture, intellectual inquiry, and right to challenge government authority peacefully. In the 1960s, anti-war and civil rights activism inspired Berkeley's Free Speech Movement (FSM). It began in 1964. UC Berkeley students protested banned on-campus political activity. They demanded free expression and academic freedom rights. Unprecedented student activism followed. FSM was a student initiative. Faculty, administration and local government officials joined. UC students ...

Parsing the 2nd Amendment to the constitution of the united states This is a lengthy post because the wallpaper of lies and disinformation is thickly layered and must be stripped away to let in the light. It is offered as an example of how ONE SENTENCE can be so chewed upon in an attempt to strip its meaning that only getting out of the box and seeing the meaning clearly for yourself, from independent parsing, can restore this gem to light. This post bypasses any questions about whether the rule of the law has already been subverted by corruption and legal deceit, rendering the Bill of Rights and making the 2nd amendment irrelevant. At the end of the day, it is what is believed to be true ...

Holder: We Have to Ask Ourselves Some Hard Questions About Gun Rights After CT Shootings Attorney General Eric Holder in Tulsa, Okla: “As a nation I think we have to ask ourselves some hard questions. We gather too often to talk about these kinds of incidents. We need to discuss who we are as a nation, talk about the freedoms that we have, the rights that we have and how those might be used in a responsible way.” Poster Comment:To those of you living in mixed neighborhoods, here's some advice you can take or leave. Dianne Feinstein To Introduce Assault Weapons Ban On First Day Of Congress WASHINGTON -- In the wake of Friday's mass killing at an elementary school in Connecticut, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said Sunday that she plans to introduce an assault weapons ban bill on the first day of the new Congress. "I'm going to introduce in the Senate, and the same bill will be introduced in the House -- a bill to ban assault weapons," Feinstein said on NBC's "Meet the Press." The shocking murder of 26 children and adults in Newtown, Conn., on Friday has sparked a national discussion on gun control, with mostly Democratic legislators saying laws need to be tightened. ...

The Federal Government is Guilty Accomplice in School Shooting in Newtown Connecticut

This shooting is yet another tragic example of the failed, grotesque insistence on helpless victim zones where any crazed gunman can be assured of a large number of disarmed, undefended, helpless victims, all crammed into one place, where he can kill many children before an armed defender arrives from elsewhere. It is disturbing and sick that the federal government so hates the right of the American people to bear arms, and so hates their natural right to self defense, that the government insists on making them helpless, disarmed victims for anyone who cares to kill them. And in this case, all of the teachers and staff were willfully disarmed by the Federal Government, by force of law and ...
