“Regional Equity”—Obama’s Coming War On Whitopias Post Date: 2012-10-02 11:47:06 by Prefrontal Vortex

Regional EquityObamas Coming War On Whitopias By Jesse Mossman on September 27, 2012 at 10:42pm Paul Kersey recently reported on VDARE.com an emerging trend: for white suburbs to secede from larger urban jurisdictions and so form, in effect, whitopian enclaves. But he did not mention that there are powerful forces on the other side pushing back hardusing a concept called Regional Equity. Americans can be forgiven for not being familiar with Regional Equity. I had not heard the term myself until just a few weeks ago, when I caught Stanley Kurtz on the radio talking about his new book: Spreading the Wealth: How Obama is Robbing the Suburbs to Pay ...

Proselytizing The New World Order By John Derbyshire on September 30, 2012 at 11:38pm I had a most interesting lunch yesterday with two brothers from the Balkans (former Yugoslavia). One lives in North America and is a longtime fan of mine, the other just visiting from over there. What was most fascinating was their account of this (largely) peasant Balkan society opening up and being modernized the past 20-plus years. The old values, both good (faith, frugality, mutual support) and bad (wife-beating, cultural parochialism) are being replaced by the modern ethic of diversity, human rights, feminism, etc. There are gains and losses there, to be sure, but what struck me as they were ...

STOP, means stop for a school bus or you will be fined. Thats the promise Monday from Dallas County Schools. Beginning Oct. 1, police are slapping drivers with a $300 citation when they dont stop for a school bus with its flashing lights on. Police will be catching drivers with the help of cameras which have been installed on school buses. Dallas County Schools installed 875 cameras at the beginning of the school year. So far, leaders say theyve caught hundreds of drivers on camera blowing by the activated stop arm and putting kids in danger. To date, violators have gotten off with a warning. Those warnings end today. Dallas County Schools Police Chief Scott Peters ...
Lakota Sioux Nation Leaves America Post Date: 2012-10-01 03:07:07 by Stephen Lendman

Lakota Sioux Nation Leaves America by Stephen Lendman America betrayed them and all Native Peoples. Throughout US history and earlier, genocide was policy. Historian Ward Churchill explained four centuries of systematic slaughter. It went on from 1492 - 1892. It continues today against Native culture. Churchill estimated around 100 million Native People throughout the Americas "hacked apart with axes and swords, burned alive and trampled under horses, hunted as game and fed to dogs, shot, beaten, stabbed, scalped for bounty, hanged on meathooks and thrown over the sides of ships at sea, worked to death as slave laborers, intentionally starved and frozen to death during a multitude ...

From the August 2003 Idaho Observer: The looniest of all 9/11 conspiracy theories Let us not tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories, President Bush stated amid increasingly loud accusations that his administration may have allowed the tragic events of 9/11 to occur as a pretext justifying U.S. expansion of armed conflict around the world to allegedly wage war on terrorism. Curiously, most of the outrageous conspiracy theories to which he refers incorporate some extremely sound science, logic and witness testimony where the official version is lacking in those critical areas. The following is a rather clever and immensely sarcastic approach to the government's ...
The Sacred Cause of 'Officer Safety' Post Date: 2012-09-30 15:01:17 by X-15

"Its just about being safe." Thus spoke Deputy Corry Bassett of the Lincoln County, Wyoming Sheriffs Office as he struggled to justify handcuffing Robert Pierson during an August 11, 2011 traffic stop. Pierson, a Marine combat veteran, had been riding his motorcycle near Alpine when another motorist called to complain about a biker passing a number of slow-moving motor homes. Pierson was not charged with a traffic violation or a criminal offense -- but he was arrested and detained in handcuffs for 45 minutes because the sight of a Mundane carrying a firearm caused Bassett to irrigate his underwear. "I know you have a gun," Bassett said a few seconds into ...

Brown signs open-carry ban on rifles and shotguns in cities, plus college, carpool bills. ACRAMENTO -- Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation Friday outlawing the open carrying of rifles and shotguns in cities across California. The measure was among dozens of bills the governor approved that take effect Jan. 1, including proposals intended to help curb student fee hikes at the state's public universities and exempt hybrid drivers from toll charges in carpool lanes. Brown also signed a measure banning state agencies from regulating Internet phone service -- a priority for the tech industry -- and took steps to establish a state-run retirement plan for low-wage, private-sector workers. ...

Julian Assange Declared Enemy of the State by Stephen Lendman America is Exhibit A on how democracies aren't supposed to work. Of course, the US isn't one now and never was. Contrary to popular myth, it wasn't established as one. America's founders had other ideas. From May to September 1787, 55 self-serving wheeler-dealers met in Philadelphia. Today we'd call them a Wall Street crowd. What they designed fell far short of common beliefs. Duplicitous politicians, bankers, lawyers, and merchants created a document serving them. Its Preamble gave it away, saying: "We the people of the United States
.do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United ...

Judge Stays Terry Williams' Execution by Stephen Lendman A previous article discussed Terry's fight for life. He was scheduled to die on October 3. Philadelphia Common Pleas Judge M. Teresa Sarmina spared him for now. More on her ruling and what's next below. Terry was raised violently. His mother abused him physically and emotionally. She beat him mercilessly for any reason. She used fists, belts, extension cords, switches, anything she could get her hands on. His siblings got similar treatment. His clemency petition recounted one incident his half-sister Theresa described: "One time my mother poured hot boiling water on me when I was a toddler. I remember being in ...

Terry Williams: A Life in the Balance by Stephen Lendman Human life is sacred. Throughout its history, US policy scored it. It shows horrifically in one war after another. It's no different at home at the federal, state, or local levels. Policy makes human life cheap. Black and Brown people suffer most. Institutionalized racism denigrates them. In capital crime cases, most have virtually no chance, guilty or innocent. Officials don't care if they live or die. America's death penalty is barbaric. It's the ultimate human rights violation. It's premeditated state- sponsored murder. No true democracy would tolerate it. US-style justice is rigged to convict. Due process ...
Rule of law can rid the world of poverty Post Date: 2012-09-27 17:41:05 by noone222

Poverty is on the retreat. Despite the global economic downturn, the World Bank and UN reported this year that the number of people living in extreme poverty has dropped in every region of the world for the first time since record keeping began. Though progress on the UNs Millennium Development Goals has been uneven, we should be heartened that we have already reached, three years before the target date of 2015, the first of these eight goals that of halving the number of people still living on less than $1 a day. However, we risk allowing these gains to come undone if we fail to strengthen the rule of law in developing countries. Without basic legal empowerment, the poor live ...

Agitate for Change by Stephen Lendman Sitting on the sidelines accomplishes nothing. Indifference isn't an option. Nothing important changes without public involvement and activism. "We the people" must show we mean it. Doug Dowd is an economic historian, economist, and political activist. At age 94, he's slowed, but still active, vibrant and committed for long overdue change. He's a radical economist in the best sense of the term. His academic career spanned six decades. He's still writing books and articles. He discusses cutting-edge economic, political and social issues. His recently published book is titled "Inequality and the Global Economic ...

Education and Democracy by Stephen Lendman Democracy and an educated citizenry go hand in hand. Public education is the great equalizer. America's founders believed it was insurance against loss of liberty. Jefferson said: "Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories. And to render them safe, their minds must be improved to a certain degree." Neil Postman perhaps is best known for saying "Americans are the most entertained and least informed people in the world." Most know little or nothing about what matters most. Ignorance isn't universal, but a significant ...

Occupation Hell in Palestine by Stephen Lendman Forty-five years and counting. In 1977, John Pilger titled his documentary film "Palestine Is Still The Issue." It's no different today than then. In many respects, it's worse. He said his film "was about a nation of people - the Palestinians - forced off their land and later subjected to a military occupation by Israel. An occupation condemned by the United Nations and almost every country in the world except Britain" and America. Add a couple of small Pacific islands that go along with everything Washington demands. For its part, Israel has a powerful ally in America. US media scoundrels never broadcast ...
Why Does the Government So Desperately Want Indefinite Detention for Terror Suspects? Post Date: 2012-09-24 07:59:23 by Ada

What is the government doing? Last year, when Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), with its contentious passages endorsing the mandatory military detention of terror suspects, there was uproar across the political spectrum from Americans who believed that it would be used on U.S. citizens. In fact, it was unclear whether or not that was the case. The NDAA was in many ways a follow-up to the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), which was passed by Congress the week after the 9/11 attacks and which authorized the president to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, ...
QE Shell Game Post Date: 2012-09-23 03:10:41 by Stephen Lendman

QE Shell Game by Stephen Lendman Now you see it. Now you don't. QE III is the Fed's latest scam. A previous article quoted PIMCO's Bill Gross. He called it money printing "till the cows come home." Doing it won't resolve festering economic problems. They're getting worse while Bernanke, the ECB, Bank of England, Bank of Japan, Congress, Obama, and like-minded world leaders fiddle. After crisis conditions erupted in fall 2007, one scam followed another. Occupy Wall Street is right. "Banks got bailed out. We got sold out." It hasn't stopped and won't until either people rebel or the whole house of cards Greenspan/Bernanke built collapses. ...

Robert Paudert refers to May 20, 2010 the day his son Brandon was killed as the "worst day of my life, ever." Given that losing a child is the most horrible thing that can happen to a parent, Paudert isnt exaggerating. Brandon Paudert was an officer in the West Memphis, Arkansas Police Department. At the time Brandon was killed, Robert was the towns police chief; Brandons partner, Officer Bill Evans, was his cousin. Until about 11:00 a.m. on that fatal day, Officers Paudert and Evans, who were assigned to the narcotics interdiction team, had maintained surveillance on what they considered to be a "suspicious" rental truck. It turned out ...

Score One for Hedges v. Obama by Stephen Lendman On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong called his Apollo 11 landing "one step for man, a giant leap for mankind." Hedges v. Obama perhaps reflects a baby step, if temporary, for justice. On September 12, Southern District of New York federal Judge Katherine B. Forrest blocked Obama's indefinite detention law. In her 112-page ruling, she called it "facially unconstitutional: it impermissibly impinges on guaranteed First Amendment rights and lacks sufficient definitional structure and protections to meet the requirements of due process." She added that: "If, following issuance of this permanent injunctive relief, ...

Bailout Fraud and Unaccountability by Stephen Lendman On December 8, 2008, the Senate confirmed Neil Barofsky's nomination as Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) watchdog. He assumed the post of SIGTARP (Special Inspector General for TARP). On July 20, 2009, he estimated the $700 billion bailout fund could balloon to $23.7 trillion. Obama administration secrecy conceals what's essential to reveal. Over $9 trillion is known. Some analysts think true figures may be three times that amount. Only crooked bankers and corrupt bureaucrats know for sure. In February 2009, Barofsky submitted an initial report to Congress. In the past two months, he said, Washington handed out hundreds ...
SPLC Urges U.S. Government to Take Domestic Extremism Seriously Post Date: 2012-09-20 20:40:50 by X-15

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin is convening an important hearing in Washington today to examine the threat of domestic extremism and hate crime in the wake of the horrific attack on Sikh worshippers in Wisconsin last month. If the hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committees Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights does nothing else but put additional pressure on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to take far-right extremism seriously, it will be worthwhile. In 2009, the DHS caved to criticism from the political right and essentially gutted its unit that monitored non-Islamic domestic terrorism. The action came after heated but misguided criticism from right-wing ...
Hypocrisy not Democracy Post Date: 2012-09-20 03:13:50 by Stephen Lendman

Hypocrisy Not Democracy in America by Stephen Lendman US elections are farcical. Obama and Romney represent two sides of the same coin. Neither offers choice. Democracy never existed and doesn't now. Rhetoric substitutes for reality. Republicans and Democrats offer the worst of all possible worlds. Ordinary people are entirely shut out. Growing numbers reject both parties for good reason. Money power owns them. "Are you better off" than four years ago, asked The New York Times? "There is really no reason for any hesitancy. The country is unquestionably better off than it was in 2008." Fact check True to form, The Times offered a litany of lies. Bankers, other ...

Unconditional Surrender in Chicago by Stephen Lendman September 18, 2012 will be remembered in Chicago as a day of infamy. Corrupt city officials and union bosses won. Teachers, parents, and kids lost. On September 10, teachers walked out. Core issues were at stake. Most important is saving public education. An American tradition is disappearing. It's being commodified. Corporate predators are gaining control. Contract terms agreed on do nothing to stop them. On Tuesday, Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) House of Delegates voted to suspend strike action and resume classes. By 9:00AM Wednesday morning, they reopened across the city. Primary and secondary education in Chicago and across ...

Chicago's War on Education by Stephen Lendman Corrupt city officials and union bosses want teacher rights marginalized and kids denied education. It's longstanding policy. War is waged on labor. Doing so harms parents and children. Public education's future is up for grabs. A nearly four century American tradition is disappearing. It's on the chopping block for elimination. It's being commodified. It's being handed to corporate predators. They're concerned only about bottom line priorities. Teaching and learning don't matter. On September 10, Chicago teachers walked out. By the time this article circulates, they may be back in classrooms. Since last ...

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player A makeshift sign used to warn drivers of a speed trap landed a Houston woman in jail last week. Natalie Plummer was riding her bicycle home from the grocery store when she noticed several cars beng pulled over for speeding. Hoping to save a few drivers from a potentially pricey ticket, she turned one of her paper bags into a sign that warned of the waiting police ahead. While she was doing so, an officer pulled up and arrested her. "I was completely abiding by the law," she told KRTK. "I was simply warning citizens of a situation ahead." The Houston police, however, were not amused by her tactics and arrested ...

September Surprise in Chicago by Stephen Lendman September 17 marks Occupy Wall Street's first anniversary. Appropriate activities are planned. At issue are popular over money power rights. They matter everywhere. Chicago teachers demand them. So do parents and kids. September 17 marks day eight since strike action began. City and union bosses want a bad deal approved. So far, Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) House of Delegates (HoD) members said no. On Sunday, they voted to keep striking. They want time for more information on contract terms. More on what's going on below. On September 17, the Chicago Tribune headlined "Chicago teachers strike continues, Emanuel says he will ...
