A Breach of Contract
Post Date: 2012-06-11 07:36:30 by Ada

Imagine that you have agreed with an auto dealer to purchase the luxurious Belchfire X-1 automobile, for which you agree to pay $45,000, with monthly payments to extend over a period of three years. You sign the sales agreement, and are then told to return the following day to sign the formal contract, which you do. When you arrive two days later to pick up the car, the dealer presents you with the title and keys to a much lesser model, the Klunkermobile J. When you ask the dealer to explain the switch, he points to a provision in the contract that reads: "Dealer shall be entitled to make ‘reasonable’ adjustments it considers to be ‘necessary and proper’ to ...

Targeting Bahraini Human Rights Lawyer Mohammed Al-Tajer by Stephen Lendman Since anti-Al-Khalifa protests began early last year, Al-Tajer was persecuted for defending human rights and denouncing Bahraini repression publicly. Founded in 1922, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) is the oldest international human rights organization. It represents 164 member organizations in over 100 countries. On April 18, 2011, it reported Al-Tajer's arrest. Twenty "masked and armed (Bahraini) plainclothes men" stormed his house, ransacked it, arrested him, and detained him at an unknown location. His wife and children were terrorized. His computers, cell phones, and ...

SPLC Taps Vandy's Abernethy For Hate List

The Southern Poverty Law Center has named Vanderbilt professor emerita Virginia Abernethy in its list of 30 new activists leading the charge of right-wing American hate, a distinction for which she has certainly earned her crazy-stripes. Classifying Abernethy as a "White Nationalist," the SPLC identifies the former Vanderbilt psychiatry professor for her role in race-based politicking as a member of the American Third Position Party, a California-based white supremacist political party with grandiose aims: Abernethy is running as a vice-presidential candidate on an A3P ticket with running mate Merlin Miller, a Tennessee-based screenwriter who made a splash with the fine folks at ...

America's Student Loan Racket by Stephen Lendman This writer's recent book titled "How Wall Street Fleeces America: Privatized Banking, Government Collusion and Class War" includes a chapter on America's student loan racket. It discusses the issue in detail. It explains a disturbing government/corporate partnership. Students are exploited for profit. Providers are enriched. For many, rising tuition and fees make higher education unaffordable. Others need large loans to attend. As a result, they become debt entrapped. Some face burdens up to $100,000 or higher. If unpaid after 30 years, it's a $500,000 obligation. If default or declare bankruptcy, it's ...

Texas Commencement Address - The Students Gave A Standing Ovation; The Faculty Were Deathly Silent! - Radio Show Speech Wednesday, June 06, 2012 9:01 Neal Boortz is a Texan, a lawyer, a Texas Aggie ( Texas A&M) graduate, and now a nationally syndicated talk show host from Atlanta . His pretend radio show commencement address to the graduates of a recent Texas A&M class is far different from what either the students or the faculty expected. Whether you agree or disagree, his views are certainly thought provoking. "I am honored by the invitation to address you on this august occasion. It's about time. Be warned, however, that I am not here to impress you; you'll have ...

According to the filing from Linda Griego, it was on June 15, 2010, when officers with the ATF – as part of the Regional Anti-Gang Enforcement Task Force – violently entered her home without a warrant, handcuffed and pointed guns at her and her son, Colby Frias. “They had multiple machine pistols pointed at my son. In the SAP, President Obama lays out 32 reasons why he is likely to veto the newest iteration of the NDAA. The headlines announcing the President’s promise to reject the NDAA are identical to those published early last December, just a couple of weeks before the President took time off from his Hawaiian vacation to sign the measure into law. Police stopped dozens of cars at gunpoint and pulled out the drivers and all other adults in the vehicles. All adults were then handcuffed and detained as their vehicles were searched. The police were looking for a bank robber. An armed man allegedly robbed a Wells Fargo bank and fled. Police claimed they had a "reliable" tip that the armed robber was in a vehicle stopped at a red light. Officers responded and barricaded ...

Whatever Happened to Justice? Supreme Court OKs Police Tasering Pregnant Women
Post Date: 2012-06-05 09:01:13 by Ada

Once again, the United States Supreme Court has proven Clarence Darrow, a civil liberties attorney and long-time advocate for the Constitution, correct in his assertion that “there is no such thing as justice – in or out of court.” In meting out this particular miscarriage of justice, the Supreme Court recently refused to hear the case of a pregnant woman who was repeatedly tasered by Seattle police during a routine traffic stop simply because she refused to sign a speeding ticket. Malaika Brooks, 33 years old and seven months pregnant, was driving her 11-year-old son to school on a November morning in 2004, when she was pulled over for driving 32 mph in a 20 mph school ...

Crisis Economic Conditions by Stephen Lendman Global economic data signal trouble. Headlines reflect worsening conditions. The Financial Times said America's dismal jobs report and world economic weakness raise "fears of a sharp global slowdown" or worse. According to the London Guardian, Britain and Euroland face a "deeper recession after figures showed manufacturing output slumped at its fastest" rate in three years. The Daily Telegraph said oil hit a 16th month low below $100 a barrel. At Friday's close, WTI crude stood at $83.26. Brent slumped to $98.63. Declining prices signal weakness. The London Independent worried about "worldwide panic" ...

Wisconsin's Recall Election by Stephen Lendman Winter 2011 witnessed an epic worker rights battle. Wisconsin public workers challenged Republican Governor Scott Walker. He won round one. Workers get another chance. On June 5, they'll choose between him and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. Neither offers much choice. More on that below. Lieutenant governor and four senate seats are also up for grabs. On June 1, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel headlined "Barrett, Walker bring out political stars," saying: Barrett lured Bill Clinton. Republican party spokesman Ben Sparks asked why him and not Obama. Walker countered with South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, "a rising star of ...

The Latest Leftist Smear of Patriots and Constitutionalists (SPLC is a Hate Group)

The communistic rabble-rousers at the left-wing hate group known as the Southern Poverty Law Center have produced yet another libelous smear of well-meaning Americans who would like to see their Constitution enforced. This time the smears, lies, false innuendo, character assassination, and hate are directed at all those who believe that part of the definition of an American patriot is one who believes in the founding fathers’ philosophy of limited constitutional government. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a far-left hate group whose modus operandi is to attempt to censor criticisms of big government in America by calling people names. If you are a Jeffersonian who believes ...

Baghdadi Mahmoudi Faces Torture and Death in Libya by Stephen Lendman Mahmoudi is a physician. He also served as Deputy Prime Minister before becoming Prime Minister and General Secretary of the General People's Congress of the Libyan Jamahiriya. He assumed that post in March 2006. Mathaba explained that he wasn't Gaddafi's prime minister. He served as "legally elected head of the people's power in Libya, the People's Congresses, which Gaddafi as the leader of the revolution as an individual often held very different views from, but ultimately was the decision-maker for the people themselves." Mahmoudi also held other posts. They included High Council for ...

FBI labeling "Occupy Movement" as "Domestic Terrorist". But the FBI themselves are the ones inside it, that planned all 'foiled bombings' The FBI is labeling the "Occupy Movement" as domestic terrorist now. They are doing this due to "foiled bombing" plots. But get this..... all those plots of bombing.... were by inside under cover FBI agents. So it was all a set up to stop the Occupy Movement. One thing I would like to make clear. I believe all the misinformation of who is involved and behind the Occupy movement is ALL disinfo. This way people do not join en-mass. This way people stay away from coming together against the fraud of Wall ...

Looming Economic Realities by Stephen Lendman Conditions show weakness, not improvement. Soft-land enthusiasts face rude awakening challenges. Later in 2012 and especially 2013, expect tougher times to reshape their outlook. They're always notoriously behind the curve. Bad policy begets bad results. Force-fed austerity promises hard times getting nasty. In fall 2007, residential housing's reversal shaped events going forward. Real estate kept overvalued markets safe. For most US households, it's their main discretionary income source. Its trajectory went straight up for years. Doing so formed a classic bubble. Eventually they all burst. Real estate crashed and went straight ...

ATF to accept public comments prior to outlawing shotguns

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is taking a rare step of allowing public comments prior to issuing a decision on a study that could result in outlawing certain types of shotguns currently available to citizens. The ATF completed a study regarding the importability of certain shotguns. The basis for a possible ban is based on a loosely defined “Sporting Purpose” test. Using the vague definition almost all pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns could be banned as they are all capable of accepting a magazine, box or tube capable of holding more than 5 rounds. Other characteristics determined to be “military” by the ATF can also be used as a basis for a ban. ...

Social Justice on Trial in Canada by Stephen Lendman Destructive neoliberal mandates harm US and European societies. Canada's conservative government force-feeds similar policies. They include wage and benefit cuts, less social spending, privatization of state resources, mass layoffs, deregulation, tax cuts for corporations and super-rich elites, and harsh crackdowns against resisters. It's also about sharply hiking college tuition fees, student anger, and criminalizing public responses. More on that below. In the 1980s, it was called Reaganomics, trickle down, and Thatcherism. In the 1990s, it was "shock therapy." Today, it's austerity. The result is ...

Man Ticketed for Dropping Money on the Ground CLEVELAND — A random act of kindness lands a man in trouble with police. Last Monday, May 14th John Davis was exiting I-90 at the West 117th ramp when he saw a man in a wheelchair. The man was pale, thin and holding a sign that had a religious sentiment and also a request for help. John thought to himself, “I think we’re all to help the less fortunate.” The middle class family man from Elyria works hard for a living and enjoys giving back especially to people who are physically challenged. “I have a brother that’s paralyzed,” said John, “My brother’s in that same situation and struggles.” ...

Rethinking ColonialismMoving beyond a narrow victimology By Siryako Akda The subject of European Colonialism is arguably one of the most important historical topics in the modern world, because it is heavily intertwined with contemporary issues of morality, globalism, indigenism, religion, economics, ethics, etc. Whatever your opinions may be about it, European Colonialism is clearly one of the most important epochs in human history and still very relevant. European Civilization and its subsequent colonization of practically the entire world have laid the foundations of Modernity. So broadly speaking, Colonialism and Modernity are interrelated, and the latter may be considered as a ...

Chicago: America's Police Repression Capital by Stephen Lendman A personal note. Chicago's my home. I live north of the Chicago River. It's the traditional North/South dividing line. I'm close to where protests occurred on the Michigan Ave Bridge and nearby. Cops were everywhere. In partial lockdown, my building was affected. Some residents felt unsafe to go out. With well-armed police in riot-gear, knowledgeable Chicagoans know the risks of getting in harm's way. Anyone can be targeted for any reason. Cops are notoriously brutal. They have carte blanche authority to operate with impunity. They take full advantage. Victims pay dearly. They're harassed, abused, ...
