New York Legislation Would Ban Anonymous Online Speech Post Date: 2012-05-22 21:08:16 by bush_is_a_moonie

Did you hear the one about the New York state lawmakers who forgot about the First Amendment in the name of combating cyberbullying and baseless political attacks? Proposed legislation in both chambers would require New York-based websites, such as blogs and newspapers, to remove any comments posted on his or her website by an anonymous poster unless such anonymous poster agrees to attach his or her name to the post. No votes on the measures have been taken. But unless the First Amendment is repealed, they stand no chance of surviving any constitutional scrutiny even if they were approved. Republican Assemblyman Jim Conte said the legislation would cut down on ...
Why and How to Remove EXIF (Meta/GeoTag/GPS) Data From Pics Post Date: 2012-05-22 06:48:28 by PSUSA2

Do you have a smart-phone (or a modern camera with GPS)? Do you take pics with it? Do you ever upload them on the internet (social networking, tweeting, forums, email) or text them? Well did you know there is (probably*) hidden data in those pics that anyone could use to track your location. Scary isnt it?! The hidden data is referred to as EXIF (or sometimes just Meta-data) and contains information like the camera make and model, the image dimensions, and yes: GPS coordinates
*Note: supposedly sites like Facebook and Flickr remove the EXIF data from the images when you upload them
If you are not sure, try doing a Google search with the name of the site in question and the ...

The dead included two pregnant women and two children. The Drug Enforcement Administration agents, with their Honduran counterparts, fired from U.S. helicopter gunships at a boat carrying the civilians, mistaking it for their intended target a boat carrying drug traffickers. Ziyad Yaghi: Guilty of Being Muslim in America by Stephen Lendman Post-9/11, America declared war on Islam. Wars rage abroad. At home, innocent victims are wrongfully charged, prosecuted, convicted by intimidated and pressured juries, and imprisoned. Ziyad's one of many hundreds serving long prison terms in America's gulag. His crime is being Muslim in America at the wrong time. On July 27, 2009, dozens of heavily armed Swat and hostage rescue team members arrested seven North Carolina men on terrorist-related charges. A same day Justice Department press release cited Daniel Patrick Boyd, his two sons, Zakariya and Dylan, Hysen Sherifi, Anes Subasic, Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, ...

THE VETTING - EXCLUSIVE - OBAMA'S LITERARY AGENT IN 1991 BOOKLET: 'BORN IN KENYA AND RAISED IN INDONESIA AND HAWAII' by JOEL B. POLLAK 58 minutes ago 589 POST A COMMENT Note from Senior Management: Andrew Breitbart was never a "Birther," and Breitbart News is a site that has never advocated the narrative of "Birtherism." In fact, Andrew believed, as we do, that President Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 4, 1961. Yet Andrew also believed that the complicit mainstream media had refused to examine President Obama's ideological past, or the carefully crafted persona he and his advisers had constructed for him. It is for that reason that ...

A federal district judge today, the newly-appointed Katherine Forrest of the Southern District of New York, issued an amazing ruling: one which preliminarily enjoins enforcement of the highly controversial indefinite provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act, enacted by Congress and signed into law by President Obama last December. This afternoons ruling came as part of a lawsuit brought by seven dissident plaintiffs including Chris Hedges, Dan Ellsberg, Noam Chomsky, and Brigitta Jonsdottir alleging that the NDAA violates both their free speech and associational rights guaranteed by the First Amendment as well as due process rights guaranteed by the ...

Echoing the recent comments of his Fox News colleague Charles Krauthammer, Napolitano also said that The first American patriot that shoots down one of these drones that comes too close to his children in his backyard will be an American hero. Should we obey all laws? Post Date: 2012-05-16 08:49:22 by Ada

Let's think about whether all acts of Congress deserve our respect and obedience. Suppose Congress enacted a law and the Supreme Court ruled it constitutional requiring American families to attend church services at least three times a month. Should we obey such a law? Suppose Congress, acting under the Constitution's commerce clause, enacted a law requiring motorists to get eight hours of sleep before driving on interstate highways. Its justification might be that drowsy motorists risk highway accidents and accidents affect interstate commerce. Suppose you were a jury member during the 1850s and a free person were on trial for assisting a runaway slave, in clear ...
Yoo, Latif, and the Rise of Secret Justice Post Date: 2012-05-14 06:33:13 by Ada

One of the lasting challenges to Americas federal judiciary will be addressing American complicity in the tortures and disappearances of the past ten years. Two recent appeals-court decisions show us how judicial panels are tackling these issues: by shielding federal officials and their contractors from liability, and even by glorifying the fruits of their dark arts. In the process, legal prohibitions on torture are being destroyed through secrecy and legal sleight of hand, and our justice system is being distorted and undermined. Last week, the Ninth Circuit reversed a district-court decision allowing a suit against torture-memo author John Yoo to go forward. The suit had been ...

WASHINGTON (AP) A federal appeals court has turned down a Freedom of Information Act request to disclose National Security Agency records about the 2010 cyberattack on Google users in China. The Electronic Privacy Information Center, which focuses on privacy and civil liberties, sought communications between Google and the NSA, which conducts worldwide electronic surveillance and protects the U.S. government from such spying. But the NSA refused to confirm or deny whether it had any relationship with Google. The NSA argued that doing so could make U.S. government information systems vulnerable to attack. A federal district court judge sided with the NSA last year, and on Friday, a ...

The Rights of the People: How Our Search for Safety Invades our Liberties by David K. shipler (New York: Knopf 2011), 384 pages. Late this past spring, two U.S. senators finally had the courage to look Big Brother in its inhuman, electronic eye and try to come clean on the USA PATRIOT Act. According to Sens. Ron Wyden (D-Org.) and Mark Udall (D-Colo.), two PATRIOT Acts operate inside the United States: the first is the actual law passed immediately after the shock of 9/11, giving the government unprecedented powers to counter terrorism. The second is how the government interprets the legislation. Why does the governments interpretation send shivers down the spines of these ...

Once, again, the "gay marriage" or same-sex marriage distraction is in the news and on the talk shows. Some people say it is a societal or cultural issue that government must address, and others say it is a religious issue. The same-sex marriage issue is a private issue. And yes, the individual has a right to marry. Who the hell is the government to allow or forbid private people to establish their own voluntary associations, relationships, contracts and marriages? Regarding the right to marry, while the Bill of Rights does not mention that specifically, the Ninth Amendment does state that "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to ...

After all, President Obama's Facebook page has over 26.4 million Likes and counting. But have you ever considered whether or not you could be fired for Liking a candidate? According to a ruling by Federal District Court Judge Raymond A. Jackson, you absolutely can be fired for using that Like button. "Simply liking a Facebook page is insufficient," wrote Jackson in his ruling. "It is not the kind of substantive statement that has previously warranted constitutional protection." The decision was handed down in response ...

The trial of the alleged masterminds of 9/11, which began last week at the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will address some of the most profound issues of our era. Are natural rights truly inalienable, as Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence, or can the government take them away from those it hates or fears? Does the Constitution protect the rights of all persons who come in contact with the government, or does it protect only certain Americans, as the government argues? Can the government deny a person due process by changing the rules retroactively, or is the Constitutions guarantee of due process to all persons truly a guarantee? These are all ...

NATO Heads for Chicago by Stephen Lendman A $100 million NATO invasion is coming. Low intensity conflict may follow. The "City of Broad Shoulders" may get more than it bargained for. Thousands plan protests against it. The Coalition Against NATO/G8 War & Poverty issued a statement, saying: "The city has carried out a campaign to intimidate and vilify protesters, claiming that protests lead to violence. In fact, the main source of violence in the world ...
