Rural kids, parents angry about Labor Dept. rule banning farm chores Post Date: 2012-04-25 07:42:39 by F.A. Hayek Fan

A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district member of Congress. But now its attracting barbs from farm kids themselves. The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families land. Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials. Prohibited places of employment, a Department press release read, would include country grain ...

Grand Prix State Terror by Stephen Lendman Perhaps Bahrain April 22 was a first. Imagine a sporting event featuring state-sponsored terror and blood in the streets. Imagine one with race drivers and event organizers mindless of raging crimes against humanity nearby. Hollywood script writers wouldn't touch it. Producers wouldn't let them. The atmosphere was surreal. Attendance was sparse. A normally full grandstand was half empty. It's a wonder anyone came. Observers said more security forces than spectators showed up. Most teams, drivers, mechanics, engineers, and other personnel preferred to stay home. Nonetheless, they came. Formula 1's reputation was tarnished. ...
Grand Prix Disgrace Post Date: 2012-04-23 03:30:23 by Stephen Lendman

Grand Prix Disgrace by Stephen Lendman On Sunday, April 22, Bahrain's Grand Prix went on as scheduled. This year's grand prize is disgrace, not glory. Formula 1's governing board shamed itself by not pulling out. So did participating drivers. Agreeing to race in a virtual war zone shows nothing matters but winning and money - lots of it. Going along turns a blind eye to state terror. Mass street protests for justice don't matter. Nor do brutal security force crackdowns. London Guardian writer Richard Williams said F1's "supremo Bernie Ecclestone" has a "habit of taking the money and asking no questions." Already a billionaire, his money lust is ...

Protesting for Justice in Bahrain by Stephen Lendman Long-suffering Bahrainis want democratic change. In response, Al Khalifa security forces attack them. Washington turns a blind eye. So did Formula One's governing body. On April 22, Bahrain's Grand Prix goes on as planned. Protesters call it "blood on the track." Money, prestige, and face saving matter most. So does enforcing power through the barrel of a gun. Justice is nowhere in sight. From April 20 - 22, the February 14 Youth Coalition promised "three days of rage." Huge masses rally for justice. London's Telegraph said protesters "flooded a main highway in a march stretching for ...

America's Gulf Disaster Revisited Post Date: 2012-04-21 04:21:40 by Stephen Lendman

America's Gulf Disaster Revisited by Stephen Lendman April 20 marked the two year anniversary of BP's Gulf of Mexico disaster. Until Fukushima Daiichi's catastrophic nuclear meltdown, it was the largest ever environmental calamity. It's devastated the lives of millions of area residents. It contaminated America's Gulf. Nothing in it's safe to eat. The incident's been plagued by coverup, denial, and Obama administration complicity to assure nothing slows hazardous deep water drilling. In 2010, as disastrous conditions unfolded, Dahr Jamail reported firsthand from the Gulf. He's now discussing the aftermath. On April 18, he headlined, "Gulf seafood ...

Grand Prix Hypocrisy in Bahrain by Stephen Lendman Al-Khalifa despots rule Bahrain repressively. Bahrainis want democratic change. In summer 2010, sporadic protests began. In mid-February last year, major ones erupted. They continue daily nonviolently. Courageous Bahrainis brave vicious security force attacks. Saudi troops are involved. In March 2011, they entered Bahrain guns blazing. They remain. They're terrorizing Bahraini men, women, children, doctors, other medical professionals, journalists, human rights activists, and foreign observers. So do state police. They're beating them, arresting them, torturing them, imprisoning them, and killing them. No matter. Let the race ...

The caller gave the plate # & police along with social workers went to the house. Parents were charged with child endangerment. Poster Comment:when i was a kid. they didnt even have carseats. we used to ride in the back of my dad's pickup truck after baseball games, riding to the A&W root beer. Nineteen years ago, just outside Waco, Texas, the FBI demonstrated once again that the state at its core is a killing machine. Monarchy, democracy, or republic any government as conventionally defined is a legal monopoly on violence. The state is always inclined toward oppression, division, conquest, and bloodshed, because these are its tools of trade. Matters are no different here. The myth of a free America was always seen with bitter irony by those not blessed by such freedom. In the founding generation, as half a million labored in slavery, many who fought in the Revolution genuinely believed in liberty, but for the ruling elite who chided them on, liberty was hardly more than ...
What Is the Conservative Movement? Post Date: 2012-04-19 02:49:28 by Original_Intent

The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) sponsored what it called a debate on February 8 over the question "Are libertarians a part of the conservative movement?" The contenders (although orators would be more accurate as it was frequently difficult to determine who was arguing what), were Matt Welch, editor in chief of Reason magazine and Jonah Goldberg, National Review Online editor, syndicated columnist, and AEI fellow. The names of all the usual suspects were invoked: Locke, Hayek, Mises, Rand, Paul, Rothbard, Meyer, et al., along with allusions to their principles. References to actual developments in American law, policy, and everyday living over the last several decades, ...

In every weather disaster, there seems to be an image or object that survives, even when everything else around it has collapsed. Sometimes, that image is the American flag. Here are some gripping photos of Old Glory [sic] still standing after last weekend's tornadoes passed. Thurman, Iowa A torn flag flies over the war memorial in Thurman, Iowa, Sunday, April 15, 2012. A large part of the town in the western part of the state was destroyed Saturday night, but no one was injured or killed. After Google played a central role rallying the public against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), the House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Mike Rogers (R MI) claims that Google is secretly supporting the bill many are calling SOPA 2. Theyve been helpful and supportive of trying to find the right language in the bill, Rogers said of Google, which declined to comment on the new bill called the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA). The bill aims primarily at the sharing of private information, empowering the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to collect data from private companies on anything they decide is a cyber ...

This past Thursday, a Modesto, California, man whose house was in foreclosure shot and killed the Sheriffs deputy and the locksmith who came to evict him from his condominium unit. Modesto authorities responded by sending 100 police and SWAT snipers to counter-attack, and it ended Waco-style, with the fourplex structure burning to the ground with the shooter inside. Its not surprising that this should happen in Modesto: Last year the Central California citys foreclosure rate was the third worst in the country, with one in every 19 properties filing for foreclosure. The entire region is ravaged by unemployment, budget cuts, and blight the only handouts that Modesto ...

Naturally, the billionaire brothers dont like the attention, so theyre responding to it by smearing the activists and journalists. Tarek Mehanna: Criminalized for Doing the Right Thing by Stephen Lendman Post-9/11, the Bush administration declared war on terror. It was sham cover for eroding personal freedoms and waging war on humanity. Muslims became prime targets. They've been victimized, vilified, and persecuted for their faith, ethnicity, prominence, activism, and charity. They've been hunted down, rounded up, held in detention, kept in isolation, denied bail, restricted in their right to counsel, tried on secret evidence, convicted on bogus charges, and given long sentences. They've been incarcerated in segregated Communication Management Units (CMUs). Doing so violates US Prison Bureau ...

This is so thin that it wont make it past a judge on a second degree murder charge, Dershowitz said. Theres simply nothing in there that would justify second degree murder. Poster Comment:I hope the massive racial manipulation of the public by the whore MSM is becoming clearer. By charging Zimmerman with 2nd degree murder, the special prosecutor has created a scenario where a dismissal of the charges at trial is a distinct possibility. Should that happen, and should the timing of such a decision be ...

Operation Shamrock and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Post Date: 2012-04-12 08:13:56 by Ada

Despite an idealistic vision of the country's devotion to the Constitution and its Bill of Rights amendments, it may come as a shock to any American who has not been paying attention that the US government has been conducting illegal unconstitutional surveillance on its citizens for much of the last hundred years. In what may have been the country's earliest coordinated effort at unconstitutional snooping, a government agency ominously named Black Chamber was in cahoots with Western Union after WWI to retrieve copies of telegrams in violation of the Radio Communications Act of 1912 and the Fourth Amendment. Once publicly revealed, the operation was shut down only to resurface in ...
Justice for Rachel Corrie Delayed Post Date: 2012-04-11 13:18:05 by Stephen Lendman

Justice for Rachel Corrie Delayed by Stephen Lendman Delay may end up denial. More on that below. On March 16, 2003, an Israeli bulldozer driver murdered Rachel in cold blood. Trying to stop a Rafah refugee camp home demolition, eye witnesses said she climbed atop the giant Caterpillar tractor, spoke to the driver, climbed down, knelt 10 - 20 meters in front in clear view, and blocked its path with her body. With activists screaming for it to stop, the soldier-operator deliberately crushed her to death. To be sure, he ran over her twice. Rachel's family wants justice. So should everyone. The Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace & Justice (RCFPJ) supports it. Its mission and ...

Abdulhadi Alkhawaja Near Death by Stephen Lendman Abdulhadi is a heroic human rights activist. A previous article discussed him and his ordeal in detail. April 11 marks his 63rd hunger striking day for justice - if he's still alive. Bahrain won't clarify beyond a short less than reassuring statement. Ruling Al-Khalifa despots keep brutalizing him. They want him dead and silenced. Among his many distinguished credentials, he co-founded the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR. He also served as its first president. On April 9, his lawyer, Mohammed Al-Jeshi, expressed fear he died. "Authorities have been refusing since (Sunday) all requests, made by myself and by his ...
