10 Reasons Why Nothing You Do On The Internet Will EVER Be Private Again

10 Reasons Why Nothing You Do On The Internet Will EVER Be Private Again The Internet is rapidly being transformed into a Big Brother control grid where privacy rights are being systematically strangled to death. The control freaks that run things have become absolutely obsessed with watching, tracking, monitoring and recording virtually everything that you do on the Internet. One thing that you can count on is that nothing you do on the Internet will ever be private again. In fact, if you are obsessed with privacy then the last place you want to be is on the Internet. Most Americans have absolutely no idea how far Internet surveillance has advanced in the past few years. At this point, ...

Legislating Greater Wall Street Theft by Stephen Lendman Political Washington is Wall Street's best friend. Whatever crooked bankers want they get. Their business model features grand theft. Wealth’s amassed through fraudulent double-dealing. Lawmakers facilitate their racketeering. They're rewarded in kind. Only fleeced households, investors, communities and nations lose out. Their dirty game continues unobstructed. New legislation enhances what's on the books. Another bill will become law when Obama signs it. Wall Street's again celebrating, and why not. Business is better than ever, courtesy of complicit lawmakers. At issue is the Jumpstart Our Business Startups ...

New Counterorrism Guidelines Gives Authorities Vast Access to Private Info of Innocent Americans

On Thursday, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder signed expansive new guidelines for terrorism analysts, allowing the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC) to mirror entire federal databases containing personal information and hold onto the information for an extended period of time—even if the person is not suspected of any involvement in terrorism. (Read the guidelines here). Despite the “terrorism” justification, the new rules affect every single American. The agency now has free rein to, as the New York Times’ Charlie Savage put it, “retrieve, store and search information about Americans gathered by government agencies for purposes other than national security ...

The NSA Is Building the Country’s Biggest Spy Center in Order to Spy on ALL American Citizens (and no, that is not hyperbole)

The spring air in the small, sand-dusted town has a soft haze to it, and clumps of green-gray sagebrush rustle in the breeze. Bluffdale sits in a bowl-shaped valley in the shadow of Utah’s Wasatch Range to the east and the Oquirrh Mountains to the west. It’s the heart of Mormon country, where religious pioneers first arrived more than 160 years ago. They came to escape the rest of the world, to understand the mysterious words sent down from their god as revealed on buried golden plates, and to practice what has become known as “the principle,” marriage to multiple wives. Today Bluffdale is home to one of the nation’s largest sects of polygamists, the Apostolic ...

Everybody’s a Target in the American Surveillance State

“Everybody’s a target; everybody with communication is a target.”– A senior intelligence official previously involved with the Utah Data Center In the small town of Bluffdale, Utah, not far from bustling Salt Lake City, the federal government is quietly erecting what will be the crown jewel of its surveillance empire. Rising up out of the desert landscape, the Utah Data Center (UDC) — a $2 billion behemoth designed to house a network of computers, satellites, and phone lines that stretches across the world — is intended to serve as the central hub of the National Security Agency’s vast spying infrastructure. Once complete (the UDC is expected to be fully ...

The Criminal Class in Washington Is Bipartisan

The Criminal Class in Washington is Bipartisan by Stephen Lendman Inside the Beltway, it's evident daily. The political news website Capitol Hill Blue says "Nobody's life, liberty or property is safe while Congress is in session or the White House is occupied." Electoral politics also highlights its clear and present danger. It involves rogue politicians competing to be part of Washington's corrupted duopoly run system - especially the top job as president. Both sides support corporate interests, imperial wars, and the divine right of capital to exploit workers, plunder resources, control markets, and rule unchallenged. Beneficial social change, independent voices, ...

Stand Your Ground Laws Legalize Murder

Stand Your Ground Laws Legalize Murder by Stephen Lendman Across America, institutionalized incidents replicate 17-year old Trayvon Martin's February 26 cold- blooded murder. A Black high-school student, he was shot and killed in predominantly white Sanford, FL. He was unarmed, carried candy, a can of iced tea, and some cash. He threatened no one. Neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman killed him in cold blood. He claims self-defense. Critics call it a hate crime. Police tapes show he's obsessed with law and order, suburban life minutia, and Black males, especially hooded youths perhaps. A 2011-established Neighborhood Watch group appointed him captain. It was set up to ...

Schumer calls for federal probe of 'Stand Your Ground' laws after Florida shooting

Sen. Chuck Schumer is calling on the Justice Department to investigate so-called "Stand Your Ground" laws following the fatal shooting of an unarmed Florida teen. The law, a version of which was enacted in Florida in 2005, allows for individuals to use deadly force -- even outside their home -- if they feel threatened. Since the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, Republican leaders have called the killing a tragedy but argue that the law in question did not actually apply to this case. Still, Schumer wrote in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder on Sunday that the laws themselves should be investigated. "These laws seem to be encouraging vigilantism by allowing ...

A Vanishing Miranda (The Police State noose tightens even more)

One of the few rights prisoners do not “give up” upon incarceration is that of due process. At least, this used to be the case. On February 20th, in Howes v. Fields, the United States Supreme Court ruled that prisoners do not have the right to be Mirandized even when being questioned about events outside the prison. For the rest of us, the ruling should serve as a warning that Miranda rights are being eroded at the edges through technicalities. The Miranda warning is a notification to a suspect in custody of his relevant constitutional rights. A typical Miranda wording is, You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law. ...

Samsung’s 2012 top-of-the-line plasmas and LED HDTVs offer new features never before available within a television including a built-in, internally wired HD camera, twin microphones, face tracking and speech recognition. While these features give you unprecedented control over an HDTV, the devices themselves, more similar than ever to a personal computer, may allow hackers or even Samsung to see and hear you and your family, and collect extremely personal data. While Web cameras and Internet connectivity are not new to HDTVs, their complete integration is, and it’s the always connected camera and microphones, combined with the option of third-party apps (not to mention ...

Supreme Court appears favorable to Secret Service agents' immunity over arrest at Cheney event

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court appeared inclined Wednesday to shield federal agents who are protecting government officials from claims of free speech violations, in a case that began with the arrest of a man who confronted Vice President Dick Cheney. The justices voiced concern that the threat of lawsuits over retaliatory arrests could make Secret Service agents and other officers who protect federal officials hesitate at critical moments, with potentially disastrous results. The Obama administration and two Secret Service agents who are being sued over the arrest at a Cheney event in Colorado in 2006 are asking the court to go even further. They want the justices to bar lawsuits against ...

Federal plan plots ignition interlocks on all cars

Better not have that glass of wine at dinner or happy hour beer -- your car may not start if Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the U.S. Senate have their way. The highway bill passed by the Senate last Wednesday includes two provisions that are causing indigestion for the restaurant industry, at least establishments that serve alcohol. First, the legislation appropriates $24 million for a federal program that could lead to the installation of alcohol detection systems as standard equipment in all vehicles. Second, it would provide $40 million in financial incentives to states that require anyone convicted of driving while intoxicated to put ignition interlocks in their cars. These devices ...

Is it ever legal to physically defend yourself against a police officer?

OK. This is a very complicated question. First thing: in most states you have no right to resist false arrest. (There are exceptions, such as Virginia.) In ALL states you have a right to resist false assault. The next huge question is "are you in reasonable fear of losing your life or suffering great bodily injury from the criminal assault in question"? This is the basic standard on the use of deadly force in most states, and probably the most common way that it's phrased. In a lot of the "filming the police" cases, cops are caught on tape using severe force on somebody else, and then they turn on the guy with the camera. Having just seen a major beat-down on ...

The New York Police Department Investigation Tests Relationship Between Freedom, Security March 16, 2012 From metroWNY Original article available here The New York Police Department’s effort to secretly monitor Muslim college students and businesses is the latest test of how far law enforcement should go to intercept potential terrorist attacks in the United States. The NYPD Demographics Unit was recently exposed in the media. The team deployed plainclothes officers, typically of Arab descent, into Muslim neighborhoods to photograph mosques and catalog where Muslims congregate, including restaurants, grocery stores, Internet cafes and travel agencies, according to the ...

Obama Executive Order Paves the Way for Nationalization of Economy

The Obama administration’s move to update an executive order to allow the government to seize control of virtually every aspect of society in both emergency and non-emergency situations lays the groundwork for the future nationalization of the U.S. economy. Obama Executive Order Paves the Way for Nationalization of Economy obamaalexwonggetty Entitled “National Defense Resources Preparedness,” Obama signed the executive order late Friday afternoon. Such timing is normally a deliberate ploy to prevent a controversial issue from being picked up by the news cycle. Recall that Obama signed the highly contentious National Defense Authorization Act on New Year’s Eve. Under ...

Where’s the Declaration of War on Iran?

Given all the talk about the possibility of President Obama initiating another war of aggression, this one against Iran, now would be a good time to review the illegality of such an operation, a point that will likely be forgotten once the standard war fever and warped sense of patriotism hits the media and the mainstream public. Under our system of government, the president is prohibited from waging war without first securing a declaration of war from Congress. Yes, I know — U.S. interventionists hate that part of the Constitution, just as they hate the part that prohibits the federal government from depriving people of life without due process of law or that part that requires a ...

Abdulelah Haider Shaye. Credit: Iona Craig. On February 2, 2011, President Obama called Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh. The two discussed counterterrorism cooperation and the battle against Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. At the end of the call, according to a White House read-out, Obama “expressed concern” over the release of a man named Abdulelah Haider Shaye, whom Obama said “had been sentenced to five years in prison for his association with AQAP.” It turned out that Shaye had not yet been released at the time of the call, but Saleh did have a pardon for him prepared and was ready to sign it. It would not have been unusual for the White House to express ...
