As most of you know, Dick Simkanin passed away in federal prison on December 28th, 2010. Before his death I had exchanged letters with him and I want to share with you what he wrote to me. I'm going to write it exactly the way he wrote it: "........But, now I got myself put back in prison because I did not report to the Probation Officer within 72 hrs of my being let go by the BOP. I let a guy talk me into a process that would free me of the 3 yrs of Supervised Release. He had some pretty strong reasons for being right. And, in law, he is absolutely right, but, as you so elequently put it in your letter, "RIGHT" dosen't mean anything to the present gang in charge of ...

Keep knockin’ and you can’t come in, Keep knockin’ and you can’t come in, I guess you better let me be. ~ Perry Bradford Riding the commuter trains of my area is a study in how people react to being mildly uncomfortable for any length of time. Being designed to seat people of a body type far slimmer than what my line usually encounters makes riding to work with a seatmate’s bulging oversized body squeezing you into the wall, arm rest or the bulging girth seated on your other side almost a given. Lucky for me, I learned how to properly fold and read The New York Times even when hemmed into a packed subway car so handling the task while immobilized between two people ...

Presented with this information and massive proof that was not contested in any manner by the accused judges, at least six of the justices voted to deny the petitions: "There is no legal or factual basis whatsoever for the decisions of the lower courts in this matter. Let Aristide Return! - by Stephen Lendman On February 29, 2004, US marines abducted him at gunpoint, airlifting him forcibly to the Central Africa Republic. It was one of Haiti's darkest moments, losing its beloved leader, reelected President in 2000 with 92% of the vote. For over six years, he's been exiled in South Africa, wants to return, and on January 19, wrote an open letter, thanking his host country and their people for welcoming him hospitably, saying: Since forcibly abducted, "the people of Haiti have never stopped calling for my return....Despite the enormous (post-quake) challenges that they face....their determination to make the return happen has ...

Obama Challenges China on Human Rights - by Stephen Lendman During Chinese President Hu Jintao's state visit, a US - China Joint Statement said: "The United States stressed that the promotion of human rights and democracy is an important part of its foreign policy. China stressed that there should be no interference in any country's internal affairs." Washington often chides other nations about their abuses and injustices at home and abroad. In fact, no other nation matches America's disdain for human and civil rights, yet as Washington Post writers John Pomfret and Scott Wilson said in their January 20 article headlined, "Obama hosts Hu Jintao on state visit, ...

Following the shootings in Arizona by a lunatic, there were calls to "tone down the rhetoric" politically, with references to the past year’s "vitriolic" anger and activism expressed by many among the Tea Party movement and by those who generally oppose the federal government’s agenda. There have been criticisms of "violent metaphors," such as those used by Sarah Palin who was "targeting" various candidates in the November 2010 elections, with bull’s-eyes drawn on maps of targeted districts, and so on. Some have criticized the current bill to repeal ObamaCare, because of the repeal bill’s title, "Repealing the Job-Killing ...

Political Prisoner Jalil Muntaqim Update - by Stephen Lendman A previous article discussed his case, accessed through the following link: http://sjlendman.blogspot.com/2009/11/political-prisoner-jalil-muntaqim_27.html For centuries in America, mass incarceration has been used for social control. In the 1600s, laws distinguished Blacks from Whites. Slavery existed until 1865. After the 13th Amendment abolished it, Blacks, like other people of color, were still denied due process. They still are, victimized by prosecutorial harshness, judicial unfairness, repressive drug laws, get tough on crime policies, guilt by accusation, three strikes and you're out, and poverty preventing a ...

"Disrupting class, using profanity, misbehaving on a school bus, student fights, and truancy once meant a trip to the principal's office. Today, such misbehavior results in a Class C misdemeanor ticket and a trip to court for thousands of Texas students and their families each year," ...

The end of Tom DeLay And why he'll probably never spend a day in prison By Justin Elliott * The end of Tom DeLay AP Tom Delay On Monday, Tom DeLay was sentenced to three years in prison on two felony charges, conspiracy and money laundering, in a campaign finance corruption case that had dragged on for years. The sentencing of DeLay, once one of the most powerful Republicans in Washington and the majority leader of the House of Representatives, was largely ignored because of the aftermath of the mass shooting in Arizona. But it's an extraordinary story -- and one that's not quite over. When he was indicted in Texas in 2005, DeLay's political career sustained a fatal ...

An Austin man detained at Austin Bergstrom International Airport for “circumvention of the screening process” last June was found guilty as charged Friday in an Austin municipal court. Michael Haendal was on his way to Washington D.C. for a job interview when he ended up in TSA custody. "They stopped me because I had a bottle of water in my luggage." In an effort to protect travelers, the federal agency is now enforcing a new pat-down regulation that went into effect last fall. According to Haendal, while being wanded by a security officer, he mentioned that he didn't like the idea of being frisked. "I was in the position, my arms were spread out, my legs ...

That is one for every state and others for large urban cities. What is a fusion center? The answer depends on your perspective. If you work for the Department of Homeland Security, it is a federal, state, local, or regional data-coordination unit, designed to improve the sharing of anti-terrorism and anti-crime data in order to make America safer. If you are a privacy or civil-rights advocate, it is part of a powerful new domestic surveillance infrastructure that combines data from both the public and private sectors to ...

AZ shooter a leftist, not tea party supporter A Second Amendment rights advocate says the liberal media and Democratic politicians are trying to blame conservatives and talk radio for the recent shooting in Tucson, even though the shooter is likely "a man of the left." While Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords (D-Arizona) fights for her life in a hospital intensive care unit, the left is trying to piece together a right-wing-inspired motive behind the madness by irresponsibly placing blame on talk radio and the tea party movement. But Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America (GOA), believes there is substantial evidence to show that suspect, Jared Lee ...
