National Security: The Last Refuge of Scoundrels Post Date: 2009-04-13 06:01:46 by Ada

If the Obama Justice Departments legal doctrine is allowed to stand, there will be absolutely no way of holding government officials civilly or criminally accountable for violating the rights of American citizens, short of a foreign power conquering the United States and putting its officials on trial. Barring a new Nuremberg trial, the officials of the United States government are above the law when it comes to National Security. Thats the necessary implication of the Justice Departments call to dismiss Jewel v. National Security Agency, a lawsuit on behalf of Americans who were subjected to warrantlessand hence illegalsurveillance by the National ...

ICRC's Damning Expose of US Torture - by Stephen Lendman On March 12, Mark Danner, in a New York Times op-ed and The New York Review of Books, wrote about the ICRC's revelations of "US Torture: Voices from the Black Sites." He said George Bush (in 2007) "informed the world that the United States had created a dark and secret universe to hold and interrogate captured 'terrorists,' " - at locations outside America, Guantanamo and elsewhere. Operated by the CIA, it "used an alternative set of procedures....designed to be safe, to comply with our laws, our Constitution and our treaty obligations. The Department of Justice reviewed the authorized ...
Pelosi made it official to ABC: ‘We want registration.’ Post Date: 2009-04-10 11:10:27 by PSUSA

Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dropped a verbal bombshell in the middle of an interview on Good Morning America April 7, and surprisingly, neither the press nor a majority of gun rights activists seemed to notice. Responding to a question from ABCs Robin Roberts, Pelosi said that while Congress apparently does not want to take anyones guns away, We want them registered. Roberts: Under the Bush administration, you pretty much said the ball was in their court when it came to reinstating the ban. Now, it's a Democratic President, a Democratic House. So, is the ball in your court where this is concerned? Pelosi: ...
A Declaration of Separation Post Date: 2009-04-09 23:36:15 by Lysander_Spooner

A Declaration of Separation To The Governments & People of Earth: We claim the right to exist, and we will defend it. We do not seek to overthrow anything. We do not seek to control anything. We merely wish to be left alone. All we ever wanted was to live in peace with our friends and neighbors. For a long, long time we bore insults to our liberty; we took blows, we did what we could to avoid injury and we worked through the system to get the offenses to stop. That has now changed. We no longer see any benefit in working through the worlds systems. At some point, working within a system becomes cowardly and immoral; for us, that point has arrived. Regardless of the parties in ...
FBI File: Charles Lindbergh FOIA Documents Post Date: 2009-04-09 20:44:12 by Deasy

Many citizens wrote to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover indicating their mistrust of Lindbergh. The populous questioned Lindbergh's loyalty to the United States. This file consists of letters sent to Director Hoover and newspaper articles written about Mr. Lindbergh. Click for Full Text!

After yesterday's speech by Mr. Lindbergh there can be no doubt
as to where Mr. Lindbergh's sympathies lie. Mr. Earl Browder's
sentiments were very much the same. They are not the sentiments
of good thinking Americans.
I am attaching hereto a copy of a protest which I sent to
the Mutual Broadcasting Company; excerpts from which Mr.
Lindbergh borrowed, --or was it just ...
How Freedom Was Lost Post Date: 2009-04-08 23:25:38 by X-15

Envy, one of the seven deadly sins, is not unknown to Americans. My last column noted the absurdity of Obama lumping the upper middle class in with the rich. The income distribution in the US is so skewed that the rich are found in the top one percent. The truly rich with the accoutrements associated with that class are in the top half of one percent. Those points were lost on those Americans who regard anyone slightly better off than themselves as "rich." A slightly bigger house in a better neighborhood, a BMW instead of a Toyota, and the ability to go on vacation without going into debt is all it takes to be rich in the minds of those whose eyes are green with envy. This ...

Declassified CIA documents show mind control projects created super spies, terrorists, assassins Manipulation of the Mind (Photo: AP/Paul Sakuma) The astonishing quotes from CIA documents below reveal detailed, successful experiments in highly secret, government-sponsored mind control programs. Through hypnosis, drugs, and electric shock, CIA clinicians fractured personalities and induced multiple personality disorder (MPD). These top secret programs were successful in creating Manchurian Candidates or super spies programmed to carry out sexual favors, assassination, and other terrorist acts without any conscious knowledge of what they were doing. To verify this startling information, ...

While the leftist American press kept public attention focused upon Obama's International Apology Hajj, working around the clock to put a positive spin on Obama's failed Throw America Under the Bus Tour abroad, another important and equally dastardly trip was taking place below the average American's radar... Six members of the US Congress traveled to Castro's Communist Cuba over the weekend to open talks aimed at establishing a cooperative relationship between the United States and Communist Cuba. The six member Congressional delegation to Cuba included the following House Representatives; Hon. Emanuel Cleaver (MO-05) Hon. Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) Hon. Barbara Lee (CA-0 ...
Gun Control Support At All-Time Low Post Date: 2009-04-08 12:06:41 by Brian S

The heavy coverage of mass shootings in Binghamton, N.Y., North Carolina and Washington state and the cop killings in Pittsburgh has had little apparent effect on the nation's appetite for new gun laws. A Gallup Poll out this morning shows support for a ban on private hand gun ownership at an all time low, with 29 percent of respondents saying they support such a law. It's the smallest percentage since Gallup started asking this question 50 years ago. Interestingly, gun control advocacy hit its all time high in 1959, according to this poll. It's important to note that the poll was taken before the massacre in Binghamton, but other mass shootings have been in the news for a few ...
The Constitution Dies - To Thunderous Applause Post Date: 2009-04-08 10:57:52 by X-15

Gee, you folks who thought Obama was the be-all and end-all to "solve" violations of The Constitution under President Bush: A pair of bills introduced in the U.S. Senate would grant the White House sweeping new powers to access private online data, regulate the cybersecurity industry and even shut down Internet traffic during a declared "cyber emergency." Senate bills No. 773 and 778, introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V., are both part of what's being called the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, which would create a new Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor, reportable directly to the president and charged with defending the country from cyber attack. This ...

Daniel McGowan, Another "War on Terrorism" Victim - by Stephen Lendman Of so-called "eco-terrorism" in his case, a term believed coined by Ron Arnold, executive director of the Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise (CDFE), a radical right wing group established on July 4, 1976 "to continue (the) Revolution of liberty, free enterprise and individual initiative....without hindrance by government." According to Sourcewatch: "Arnold blurred the boundaries between nonviolent civil disobedience and more contentious tactics such as vandalism and sabotage," (mostly rejected by environmentalists) by equating property damage to "terrorism as a ...

Since coming to power in a blaze of reforming glory, promising to close Guantánamo within a year, stop the CIA from running offshore torture prisons, and restore the Geneva Conventions to prisoners seized in wartime, the Obama administration has proceeded to make a number of poor decisions in relation to its predecessors reviled "War on Terror" policies. One was the decision to invoke the state-secrets privilege to quash a lawsuit against Boeing subsidiary Jeppesen for its role as the CIAs travel agent in a case brought by a number of prisoners subjected to "extraordinary rendition," although this was understandable if the floodgates were not to be ...

Lawyers for Binyam Mohamed face the incredible prospect of a six-month jail sentence in America after writing a letter to President Obama detailing their client's allegations of torture by US agents. The privilege review team officials from the US department of defence who monitor and censor communication between Guantánamo prisoners and their lawyers have previously been accused of using their powers to suppress evidence of the abuse and mistreatment of detainees. Clive Stafford Smith, director of legal charity Reprieve, and his colleague Ahmed Ghappour have been summoned to appear before a Washington court on May 11 after a complaint was made by the privilege ...

Another one of our trained Afghan public servants went nuts, killing two U.S. soldiers and wounding another. This situation is not the first of its kind in Afghanistan, and such attacks on American troops have occurred recently in Iraq as well. What causes this kind of behavior? Certainly, it is expected that many people who have been impacted by a military occupation, and its necessary physical and moral chaos, may harbor resentment and a desire for revenge. Indeed, a small percentage of those may act. But when the attacker is a soldier or policeman employed as a result of the occupation, working for the American satrap, in routine contact with the American military or their contractors ...

Obama's War on Labor - by Stephen Lendman Voters expecting change keep getting rude reminders of what kind, none they can believe in reiterated again on March 30 in Obama's remarks to the auto giants. While stating "We cannot....must not (and) will not let (this) industry vanish," he laid down a clear marker. Labor, not business, is targeted. More on that below. "We (won't) excuse poor decisions," he said. "We cannot make the survival of our auto industry dependent on an unending flow of taxpayer dollars." In rejecting their aid request, he added: "These companies - and this industry - must ultimately stand on their own, not as wards of the ...

Associated Press - April 4, 2009 8:55 PM ET Corrected Version EL PASO, Texas (AP) - The El Paso County district attorney is promising reviews of about 100 drug cases presided over by a newly elected state judge now under federal indictment. A federal grand jury in El Paso indicted State District Judge Manuel Barraza on Wednesday on four counts, including mail fraud, wire fraud and lying to a federal agent. The 10-page indictment alleges the 53-year-old judge took cash bribes and asked for sex from defendants, including an undercover FBI agent, in exchange for his help in felony cases. District Attorney Jaime Esparza said that the drug cases will be reviewed to determine if justice ...
Bill Would Grant President Unprecedented Cyber-security Powers Post Date: 2009-04-03 12:09:07 by Brian S

The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 introduced in the Senate would allow the president to shut down private Internet networks. The legislation also calls for the government to have the authority to demand security data from private networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule or policy restricting such access. The headlines were all about creating a national cyber-security czar reporting directly to the president, but the Cybersecurity Act of 2009 introduced April 1 in the U.S. Senate would also give the president unprecedented authority over private-sector Internet services, applications and software. According to the bill's language, the president would have broad ...

Carlos Miller In what should send a frightening chill down the spine of every blogger, writer, journalist and First Amendment advocate in the United States, Phoenix police raided the home of a blogger who has been highly critical of the department. Jeff Pataky, who runs Bad Phoenix Cops, said the officers confiscated three computers, routers, modems, hard drives, memory cards and everything necessary to continue blogging. The 41-year-old software engineer said they also confiscated numerous personal files and documents relating to a pending lawsuit he has against the department alleging harassment - which he says makes it obvious the raid was an act of retaliation. Maricopa County Judge ...

Afghan leader accused of bid to ‘legalise rape’ Post Date: 2009-04-02 09:55:29 by bush_is_a_moonie

Afghanistan's President, Hamid Karzai, has signed a law which "legalises" rape, women's groups and the United Nations warn. Critics claim the president helped rush the bill through parliament in a bid to appease Islamic fundamentalists ahead of elections in August. In a massive blow for women's rights, the new Shia Family Law negates the need for sexual consent between married couples, tacitly approves child marriage and restricts a woman's right to leave the home, according to UN papers seen by The Independent. "It is one of the worst bills passed by the parliament this century," fumed Shinkai Karokhail, a woman MP who campaigned against the ...
Mexico's Fox wants European Union here - Tells Texas audience he wants 'integration' to speed up (I guess he and The Decider just weren't ever on the same page) Post Date: 2009-04-02 03:50:17 by Rotara

The former president of Mexico told a Texas audience he envisions a European Union-like plan working well across North America, and he would like the "integration" process to speed up. The comments raised red flags for officials with Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, who wrote, "Does everyone understand now why they have let over 15 million illegal aliens enter and remain in the U.S.?" Former Mexican President Vicente Fox spoke in San Antonio March 27, talking about trade, the drug war immigration reform and other issues. According to the San Antonio Express, Fox expressed the hope that Canada, the United States and Mexico would function like the European Union. ...

(CNN) -- If Craig Blair gets his way, anyone filing for unemployment or food stamps must show that they are drug-free. He's a state lawmaker in West Virginia who has introduced a bill to require random drug testing for benefits and lays out his case on a Web site called notwithmytaxdollars.com. Craig Blair says unemployment, designed to get people back to work, is impossible if the recipient uses drugs. Blair and his supporters say drug use is rampant and taxpayers are growing alarmed with how the government is spending their money. "The message that we're trying to send is, first of all, we need to respect taxpayers and how their monies are spent," the Republican said. ...
