A California activist is trying to gather the 694,354 signatures needed to place a tax initiative on the ballot that would: Impose a new 35% income surtax (in addition to federal taxes and the existing 10.3% top state rate) -- 17.5% (on all of the taxpayer's income) when income exceeds $150,000 (single)/$250,000 (joint), and an additional 17.5% (again, on all of the taxpayer's income) when income exceeds $350,000 (single)/$500,000 (joint). Impose a one-time 55% wealth tax on assets exceeding $20 million held by a California resident or held in California by nonresident. Impose an exit tax of between 36.5% to 54.3% on both income and unrealized appreciation in asset values over $5 ...

The United States Secret Service has dispatched a protective detail to assume the immediate protection of Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., a source tells ABC News, indicating in all likelihood that Biden has been officially notified that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has selected him to be his running mate. Sources also tell ABC News that two others said to be finalists for the position of Obama's running mate -- Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and Virginia Gov Tim Kaine -- have been told they have not been selected to be Obama's running mate. Kaine flew to Denver earlier today, is in Denver tonight and has no plans to leave in the next 24 hours. Bayh is at his Washington, DC, home with his ...
New Guidelines Would Give F.B.I. Broader Powers Post Date: 2008-08-22 04:13:05 by noone222

WASHINGTON A Justice Department plan would loosen restrictions on the Federal Bureau of Investigation to allow agents to open a national security or criminal investigation against someone without any clear basis for suspicion, Democratic lawmakers briefed on the details said Wednesday. The plan, which could be made public next month, has already generated intense interest and speculation. Little is known about its precise language, but civil liberties advocates say they fear it could give the government even broader license to open terrorism investigations. Congressional staff members got a glimpse of some of the details in closed briefings this month, and four Democratic senators ...

Oklahoma police investigating the shooting deaths of two girls have told area residents with guns to bring them in for a test to determine whether they were used in the attack, sparking concern among those who own guns for hunting and self-defense. According to reports in the Tulsa World the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation sent letters to members of the community who were registered as owning .40-caliber handguns suggesting they voluntarily bring in their gun or guns for a test. The individuals who were "invited" to bring their guns in but didn't now will be included in the ongoing investigation, as well as people who were identified by former owners as having ...

From "unalienable" to "inalienable": One letter changed! How our Rights became alienable when States became STATES Quotes from the Iowa CONSTITUTION below have been copied from the following URL: www.legis.state.ia.us/Constitution.html Let us look at the 1857 CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF IOWA -- "CODIFIED" Question: What does the word "CODIFIED" mean? Obviously it means written down and organized into "code" form. But codes apply ONLY to corporations and corporate fictional identities, not to flesh and blood human beings. "1857 CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF IOWA -- CODIFIED" Note that the title of Iowa's 1857 CONSTITUTION ...

AWAITING OBAMA’S CALL Post Date: 2008-08-20 06:45:12 by bush_is_a_moonie

At this point in the course of human events, why would any astutefor that matter, any rationalpolitician in the Democratic or Republican Parties want to be President of the United States? On Inauguration Day, either Barack Obama or John McCain will find himself in deep trouble. (Oh, yes, I should prefer nominal Republican Ron Paul or Pastor Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party as President, because I know for what they stand, that they can be depended upon to do what they say, that they have a sound grasp of what needs to be done, and that they just might be able to do it. But, as of now, their chances for election are vanishingly slim.) In January of 2009, among other ...

The United States is still a British Colony The trouble with history is, we weren't there when it took place and it can be changed to fit someones belief and/or traditions, or it can be taught in the public schools to favor a political agenda, and withhold many facts. I know you have been taught that we won the Revolutionary War and defeated the British, but I can prove to the contrary. I want you to read this paper with an open mind, and allow yourself to be instructed with the following verifiable facts. You be the judge and don't let prior conclusions on your part or incorrect teaching, keep you from the truth. I too was always taught in school and in studying our history books ...

[blast from the past] In 1776, our forefathers came together in Freedom Hall in Philadelphia, in an assembly known as the Second Continental Congress. From this Congress came the Declaration of Independence, the founding document of our country, which gave notice to King George of Great Britain that the colonists would no longer abide his tyranny. This action resulted in the Revolutionary War which ended in 1781, and gave rise to the Constitution for the United States of America in 1787. The Constitution was the document written for those who would be elected to positions to guarantee a republican form of government and to limit the scope of the Federal government to the ten mile square ...
The Affirmative Action Hoax [Full Thread] Post Date: 2008-08-19 10:23:33 by christine

Steven Farron's The Affirmative Action Hoax is, to my knowledge, the most thorough and uncompromising exposé of affirmative action in higher education. As many other writers have done, he provides copious evidence that universities discriminate against whites on a massive scale. However, unlike most critics of racial preferences, Farron examines his subject from a race realist perspective that acknowledges the reality of biological differences in intelligence among the races. 72;This perspective enables him to see clearly how flimsy all the 72;arguments commonly made in favor of affirmative action are. Farron 72;also recognizes that the dogma of racial equality that underlies ...

City officials have clarified conditions of the curfew which will target teenagers who are loitering. DENVER (CBS4) 53; CBS4 News has learned if mass arrests happen at the Democratic Convention, those taken into custody will be jailed in a warehouse owned by the City of Denver. Investigator Rick Sallinger discovered the location and managed to get inside for a look. The newly created lockup is on the northeast side of Denver. Protesters have already given this place a name: "Gitmo on the Platte." Inside are dozens are metal cages. They are made out of chain link fence material and topped by rolls of barbed wire. Police turn to secret weapon: GPS device Privacy advocates say electronic tracking violates Fourth Amendment rights By Ben Hubbard The Washington Post updated 8:40 p.m. PT, Tues., Aug. 12, 2008 Someone was attacking women in Fairfax County and Alexandria, grabbing them from behind and sometimes punching and molesting them before running away. After logging 11 cases in six months, police finally identified a suspect. David Lee Foltz Jr., who had served 17 years in prison for rape, lived near the crime scenes. To figure out if Foltz was the assailant, police pulled out their secret weapon: They put a Global Positioning System device on Foltz's van, which allowed them to track his ...

The Tyranny of Good Intentions: How Prosecutors and Law Enforcement are Trampling the Constitution in the Name of Justice. Paul Craig Roberts and Lawrence M. Stratton, New York: Three Rivers Press, 2008, 264 pages (paperback), $16.95. In the past six years, I have written a number of articles, papers, and columns about how any pretense of the rule of law in the United States is dead. This was not always the position I took, but after reading the hardback version of The Tyranny of Good Intentions in 2001, I realized that not only were the people who were officially entrusted with keeping the law in this country not interested in fulfilling their duties, but that the very nature of law ...

Justice Staffers Won't Be Prosecuted For Illegal Hiring Practices Post Date: 2008-08-12 14:56:46 by christine

NEW YORK Former Justice Department officials will not face prosecution for letting improper political considerations drive hirings of prosecutors, immigration judges and other career government lawyers, Attorney General Michael Mukasey said Tuesday. Mukasey used his sharpest words yet to criticize the senior leaders who took part in or failed to stop illegal hiring practices during the tenure of his predecessor, Alberto Gonzales. But, he told delegates to the American Bar Association annual meeting, "not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime. In this instance, the two joint reports found only violations of the civil service laws." Other intrusions ...

Court Rules Federal Reserve is Privately Owned Case Reveals Fed's Status as a Private Institution Below are excerpts from a court case proving the Federal Reserve system's status. As you will see, the court ruled that the Federal Reserve Banks are "independent, privately owned and locally controlled corporations", and there is not sufficient "federal government control over 'detailed physical performance' and 'day to day operation'" of the Federal Reserve Bank for it to be considered a federal agency: Lewis v. United States, 680 F.2d 1239 (1982) John L. Lewis, Plaintiff/Appellant, v. United States of America, Defendant/Appellee. No. 80 ...

WASHINGTON Former President Ford secretly advised the FBI that two of his fellow members on the Warren Commission doubted the FBI's conclusion that John F. Kennedy was shot from the sixth floor of the Texas Book Depository in Dallas, according to newly released records from Ford's FBI files. Ford, still a congressman at the time, also told a senior FBI official about internal panel disputes over hiring staff, Chief Justice Earl Warren's timetable for completing the final report on the assassination and what panel members said about the FBI. In turn, Assistant FBI Director Cartha "Deke" DeLoach confidentially advised Ford of FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover's ...
