It's torture; it's illegal: The policies that led to the torture emanated from Dick Cheney's officeBy Prof. Marjorie CohnGlobal Research, February 5, 2008 LA Times Re: LA Times Editorial, p. 2Mukasey is trying to single-handedly change U.S. law when he suggests a "shocks-the-conscience" test to measure torture. The United States has ratified the United Nations Convention Against Torture, which makes it part of the supreme law of the land under the Constitution's supremacy clause. That convention says that torture is never allowed, even in time of war. Mukasey refuses to admit that fact in order to shield his superiors from prosecution under the War Crimes Act, ...

The Bush administration launched its new $30 billion defense aid to Israel in its proposed 2009 budget. The $3 trillion budget, released Monday, includes $2.55 billion in defense assistance for Israel. That will increase in increments until 2013, when it will settle at $3.1 billion a year until 2018. Israel this year received its final $2.4 billion payment in a $24 billion defense assistance package launched in 1998. The Bush administration increased the amount partly as compensation to Israel for a planned $20 billion in U.S. arms sales to Saudi Arabia and its Arab neighbors. The administration defends the overall package as necessary to contain Iranian hegemony and to spur Israel and ...

The case of an Ohio woman who was arrested for disorderly conduct and forcibly strip-searched by both male and female guards has aroused widespread comment since the release of a police video of the incident.
Hope Steffey is suing the Stark County sheriff's office over her alleged mistreatment, with the video as documentation. However, WKYC News in Cleveland reports that there may have been additional video of Steffey being abused that has been withheld by the police.
The incident began when Steffey was attacked and injured by a relative and another family member called 911. The sheriff's deputy who responded to the call was confused and began treating Steffey as the perpetrator ...

CIA director names 3 on whom waterboarding was used Posted: 12:31 PM ET WASHINGTON (CNN) CIA Director Michael Hayden, responding to questions from members of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, publicly named for the first time the three detainees who had been subjected to the harsh interrogation technique known as waterboarding. It was used on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. It was used on Abu Zubayda, and it was used on (Abd al-Rahim) al-Nashiri, he said. The CIA has not used waterboarding for almost five years. We used it against these three high-valued detainees because of the circumstances of the time. Very critical of those circumstances was the ...

04/02/08 "ICH" -- -- Many Americans are content with the 9/11 Commission Report, but the two chairmen of the commission, Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton are not. Neither was commission member Max Cleland, a US Senator who resigned from the 9/11 Commission, telling the Boston Globe (November 13, 2003): This investigation is now compromised. Even former FBI director Louis Freeh wrote in the Wall Street Journal (Nov. 17, 2005) that there are inaccuracies in the commissions report and questions that need answers. Both Kean and Hamilton have twice stated publicly, once in their 2006 book, Without Precedent: The Inside Story of the 9/11 Commission, and again ...

Poster Comment:I spent the night before Super Tuesday watching Naomi Wolf's talk on the ten steps to end democracy. In her conclusion she says that impeachment is not enough. We need to give them jail time. I actually liked it better the second time I saw it. Martial law will be the last step before a permanent dictatorship. It does not matter to the Bilderbergs and AIPAC if Hillary is President. She is not the agent of change. I think I was the one who posted this originally some months ago.

citizen of the United States -- How? Why? Post Date: 2008-02-02 16:10:08 by richard9151

citizen of the United States It does not matter how much or how long you have been studying, only what you have the humility to see and learn. Someone wrote me with the statements , "Do you live in the USA, and where you born in the USA? You are a citizen of the USA. " and believed they knew what they were talking about because they have already decided they knew. The truth is that -- "Merely being native born within the territorial boundaries of the United States of America does not make such an inhabitant a Citizen of the United States subject to the jurisdiction of the Fourteenth Amendment." Elk vs.. Wilkins, Neb (1884), 5s.ct.41,112 U.S. 99, 28 L. Ed. 643. There ...
Gold and Fiat Currencies - The Confidence Game Post Date: 2008-02-01 19:56:48 by richard9151

This essay represents my views on the "management" of gold and fiat currencies. Throughout history this "con" and its variations have occurred many times - robbing the hard-earned money of its citizens, and creating ever-greater wealth accumulation for the already wealthy. Historically, the strongest and most stable currencies were those backed by gold and silver. It was this gold/silver backing that gave the currency its intrinsic value. In most cases, a country's currency was actually gold or silver coins. Gold and silver have always been a universal form of money and measure of wealth providing stability in an otherwise unstable world. Today we are told that gold ...

For those who wish to learn about freedom, there are sources to do so. Here is the best that I know; His Holy Church. However, if you are into the paganism rampant within the United States, this could be a radical experience, so be careful! By the way, you will see lots of resources listed below. Try a couple. You may be surprised. The United States is clearly an indirect democracy with constitutional restriction just by reading the constitution. The Republic was around since 1600's. Republics were, and really remain so, governments where the leaders were "titular". The congress and senate and president are not titular. Republic comes from that Latin idiom Libera Res Publica ...

Senate Sets Two Days of Debate on Surveillance Law as Bush Signs Extension By Tim Starks, CQ Staff The Senate will vote next week on a new surveillance law that would address legal immunity for telecommunications companies and determine how much spying power to give the White House. After days of complex negotiations over a floor procedure for legislation (S 2248) rewriting the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA, PL 95-511), Senate leaders reached agreement Thursday evening on which amendments to allow. The Senate is now set to hold a debate, beginning Feb. 4 and lasting two days, on a dozen amendments that will address some of the bills most controversial aspects. Some ...

Some time ago, I mentioned something about insurance. I have left the subject alone, largely, because so many in this 4um are convinced that, somehow, and against all reason, the government needs to do something about 'their' insurance. What delusions! Give me liberty.... and some insurance on the side, willya? Yesterday, I posted Plan B, which is saying the same thing, basically, that I have been saying in the 4um for some months; all of you want Dr. Paul to save you...... from yourselves. And by the way, solve the budget crisis, balance the budget, bring back sound money, defeat the Neo-Cons, cut off Israel, tame the Federal Reserve Bank, and, do all of this without much change ...
DUI suspect files class-action suit over prison strip-searches Post Date: 2008-02-01 08:34:23 by angle

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Court rulings prohibit routine strip searches of minor offenders, but a privately run prison conducts them on all new inmates, a lawsuit charged. The potential class-action suit, filed in federal court this week against The Geo Group, involves a drunk-driving suspect who was strip-searched at a county prison the firm manages near Philadelphia. "It's humiliating," lead plaintiff Stephen D. Bussy, 53, said Thursday. Bussy, a home-health worker and college graduate from Media, said he was strip searched during intake last summer at the Delaware County Prison. A second full-body search occurred during his four-month stay - he was unable to post bail - in a ...

31/01/08 "ICH" -- -- The White House has given ever-shifting rationalizations for invading and occupying Iraq, running the gamut from a claim of self-defense to a purported mission of bringing democracy and thus freedom to the citizens of that country. Procedural Talks Threaten to Push Off Senate Consideration of FISA Bill By Tim Starks, CQ Staff Senate leaders continued to negotiate behind the scenes Wednesday on floor procedures for a long-term overhaul of the rules governing electronic surveillance, threatening to further delay the bill. Despite declarations Tuesday and Wednesday from Republican and Democratic leaders that the two sides were close, a deal governing the procedures for considering legislation (S 2248) overhauling the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA, PL 95-511) failed to emerge. We thought we had it worked out, Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told the Senate late Wednesday. ...

Bush made the assertion in a signing statement that he issued late Monday after signing the National Defense Authorization Act for 2008. In the signing statement, Bush asserted that four sections of the bill unconstitutionally infringe on his powers, and so the executive branch is not bound to obey them. "Provisions ...

Congress Clears Bill to Extend Temporary Surveillance Law for 15 Days By Tim Starks, CQ Staff Congress sent a bill to the president Tuesday that would extend a surveillance law that expires Feb. 1, but more wrangling is ahead before lawmakers can enact a long-term rewrite of electronic spying rules. The House on Tuesday passed a 15-day extension (HR 5104) of the temporary surveillance law (PL 110-55) by voice vote, with the goal of giving lawmakers in both chambers more time to work on a more comprehensive overhaul. The Senate cleared it by voice vote. The extension would keep the current law in force until Feb. 16, the day before lawmakers are scheduled to begin their Presidents Day ...

Lawmakers Cite Several Flaws in Executive Order to Reduce Earmarks By Liriel Higa, CQ Staff As President Bush moved forward on his push to curb earmarks, lawmakers in both parties bristled at what many see as an incursion on the power of the legislative branch. Democrats said Tuesday that Bushs focus on reducing earmarks was a bid to distract attention from other issues, such as the economy and the war in Iraq. This, like so much else that George Bush is doing, is a giant diversion, said House Appropriations Chairman David R. Obey, D-Wis. He has been the biggest foreign policy disaster in the history of the universe and now he thinks that his monument is going ...

I have updated and finalized this paper, and will not change it from this version. It is long enough. If you truly want to start educating people, you can start with this info. Friends, family, neighbors, fellow workers, everyone should know this information, and, if they do not, they can not make informed decisions in this world today. Richard Inflation? Deflation? What is going to happen? Having read many of the stories in the major media and elsewhere over the last several weeks about inflation and pending deflation or not (the inflation is a given, as it exists), I have come to the conclusion that people simply, really, do not understand the mechanisms in place and how they work. ...
