Institutionalized Spying on Americans - by Stephen Lendman This article reviews two police state tools (among many in use) in America. One is new, undiscussed and largely unknown to the public. The other was covered in a December article by this writer called Police State America. Here it's updated with new information. The National Applications Office (NAO) The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) established a new domestic spying operation in 2007 called the National Applications Office (NOA) and described it as "the executive agent to facilitate the use of intelligence community technological assets for civil, homeland security and law enforcement purposes within the United ...

YOUR GOVERNMENT AT WORK: Electoral college bypass approved by 2nd state: 'Current way to elect president no longer serves America well' Posted: January 15, 2008 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2008 WorldNetDaily.com A second state has approved a plan that would bypass the U.S. electoral college, giving the presidency to the winner of a national popular vote. The move came this weekend when New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine signed legislation that specifies the state's 15 electoral college votes would go to the winner of the popular vote. Maryland, with its 10 electoral college votes, earlier approved a similar plan. Both are contingent on enough other states approving the plan to ...

White House reused e-mail tapes White House Tape Recycling Raises Possibility That Some E-Mails Are Gone PETE YOST AP News Jan 16, 2008 13:31 EST The White House has acknowledged recycling its backup computer tapes of e-mail before October 2003, raising the possibility that many electronic messages including those pertaining to the CIA leak case have been taped over and are gone forever. The disclosure came minutes before midnight Tuesday under a court-ordered deadline that forced the White House to reveal information it has previously refused to provide. Among the e-mails that could be lost are messages swapped by any White House officials involved in discussions about ...
The House Starts the New Session the Old Way — With a Manual Vote (IF THE HOUSE CAN DO IT, WHY CAN'T WE VOTERS?) Post Date: 2008-01-16 11:18:59 by aristeides

The House Starts the New Session the Old Way With a Manual Vote By Alan K. Ota, CQ Staff The House got off to a rocky start Tuesday night, as aides struggled to overcome a power outage that kept the electronic voting system dark during a session-opening quorum call. Floor aides took nearly an hour to tally voting cards to determine that 393 members were present far more than the minimum constitutional quorum of 218 to allow the House to begin business for the year. We had to get that quorum call before we could start work. Its a constitutional requirement, said Rules Chairwoman Louise M. Slaughter, D-N.Y. This is truly ...

BEGIN IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS ON RESOLUTION OF IMPEACHMENT OF VICE PRESIDENT -- (House of Representatives - January 15, 2008) [Page: H8] GPO's PDF --- The SPEAKER pro tempore. Under a previous order of the House, the gentleman from Florida (Mr. Wexler) is recognized for 5 minutes. Mr. WEXLER. Madam Speaker, on November 7, 2007, this House voted to refer Congressman Kucinich's resolution of impeachment of Vice President Cheney to the House Judiciary Committee. As a member of the Judiciary Committee, I now ask that we immediately begin impeachment hearings. The issues at hand are far too serious to ignore. Dick Cheney faces credible allegations of abuse of power that if proven may ...

Subject: Well, what can I say. No Recount in NH I do not know where to begin with all of this so I will just lay out the basic facts as they are being reported to me: The state of New Hampshire ballot appeared to have been tampered with. The people of America (and about half of the world too!) pulled together to sign a petition and have their voice heard, across the aisle, in an effort that has seen both Democrats and Republicans call for a recount of the ballots for the state of New Hampshire. The Secretary of State placed a January 15th @ 15:00 deadline for the $55,600 to be handed over to cover the cost of the recount. The money was raised by, again, people from all walks of life ...

Mesa County is being asked to pay at least $100,000 to woman who said her nude photos were passed among jailers when her husband was incarcerated there. Jessica Duran filed the claim against the county through a Denver attorney, Lonn Heymann, who didnt return calls. The claim is required before a plaintiff can file a lawsuit against a government agency such as the sheriffs department or county. Any suit against the county would be meritless, Sheriff Stan Hilkey said Tuesday. Theres no suit filed, Hilkey said. In this case, its ridiculous. Thats probably about all I should say. Jessica Duran alleges in the claim that her privacy and ...

Less Than Human Friday marked the sixth anniversary of the arrival of the first detainees at the American GULAG constructed to house prisoners taken in the Bush Administrations War on Terror in Guantánamo. Around the world, thousands gathered in public commemorations in London, Stockholm, Dublin, Brussels and Bahrain. More than twelve hundred parliamentarians signed a formal plea calling for the immediate closing of the base. The same plea had previously been issued by Pope Benedict, Chancellor Angela Merkel and more than two dozen other world leaders. Indeed, quite remarkably, on Sunday Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff essentially joined with the ...

Congress Unlikely to Meet Latest Deadline for Surveillance Law Rewrite By Keith Perine, CQ Staff As a new session of Congress begins, the Senate is preparing to resume a contentious struggle over electronic surveillance legislation a struggle fraught with both political and procedural peril. The law governing the Bush administrations counterterrorism electronic surveillance (PL 110-55) expires on Feb. 1. If Congress cant clear new surveillance legislation by then, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., would favor a short-term extension of the existing law, which was hastily passed last August. But the White House has made clear its distaste for that approach. ...

It breaks up old nationalities and pushes the antagonism of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie to the extreme point. In a word, the free trade system hastens the social revolution. KARL MARX WOULD HAVE LOVED THE FEDERAL RESERVE The proletariat will use its political supremacy to wrest, by degrees, all capital from the bourgeoisie...Of course, in the beginning, this cannot be effected except by means of despotic inroads on the rights of property...These measures will of course be different in different countries. Nevertheless, in the most advanced countries, the following will be pretty generally applicable: ...5. Centralisation of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.

National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell is drawing up plans for cyberspace spying that would make the current debate on warrantless wiretaps look like a "walk in the park," according to an interview published in the New Yorker's print edition today. Debate on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act will be a walk in the park compared to this, McConnell said. this is going to be a goat rope on the Hill. My prediction is that were going to screw around with this until something horrendous happens. The article, which profiles the 65-year-old former admiral appointed by President George W. Bush in January 2007 to oversee all of America's ...

Bush administration backs gun regulation David G. Savage LA Times Monday January 14, 2008 WASHINGTON -- In their legal battle over gun ownership and the 2nd Amendment, gun- control advocates never expected to get a boost from the Bush administration. But that's just what happened when U.S. Solicitor General Paul D. Clement urged the Supreme Court in a brief Friday to say that gun rights are limited and subject to "reasonable regulation" by the government and that all federal restrictions on firearms should be upheld. Reasonable regulations include the federal ban on machine guns and other "particularly dangerous types of firearms," he said in the brief. ...

But bosses at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency were not so impressed with the lifesaver's actions because he ignored health and safety rules by not using safety equipment and following correct procedures. Far from heaping praise on the dedicated volunteer, Mr Waugh said he has been put under "immense pressure" from management ...

Railing against President Bush, he told his audience last June that a well-placed bullet can solve a lot of problems. He has written that we need to start SHOOTING AND KILLING Mexicans as they cross the border and argued that killing certain federal judges may be illegal, but it wouldnt be wrong. In 2006, after he published an attack on New Jersey Supreme Court justices that also included several of their home addresses, ...

The Noxious Fruits of Hate Speech laws Post Date: 2008-01-13 13:07:08 by Ada

(updated below) I've written several times before about the oppressive, dangerous hate speech laws which are common -- increasingly so -- in both Canada and Europe, whereby the Government is empowered to punish as criminals citizens who express offensive or otherwise prohibited political views. But here is a visceral illustration of what these sorts of laws engender that ought to give great pause even to proponents of such laws. Ezra Levant is a right-wing Canadian neoconservative who publishes Western Standard, a typical warmongering, pro-Likud journal -- a poor man's Weekly Standard for Canadian neocons. In February, 2006, he published the Danish Mohammed cartoons, which ...
