Who Counts Your Vote? Only The Shadow Knows By Judith Moriarty 1-13-8 "An electronic voting system is to a mechanical one what a nuclear bomb is to a hand grenade. If someone manages to sabotage it, the results can be catastrophic" unknownGosh, what a bummer, all the polls predicted a blowout for Obama 49/29. Huh? Seems that only Hillary saw a sudden surge. "Old Dems" (women) coming out to vote - her tears - Whites deciding not to vote for a Black, etc, are just some of the cartoon sound bites used to describe the "most stunning upset in the history of politics." Weird events in Wendover, Utah (sic) Post Date: 2008-01-13 11:40:39 by PSUSA

First off, I need to explain Wendover. Wendover is the beating heart of the Great Basin Desert. My Coyote Guide told me that Wendover is the heart of the universe, so I'm not about to dispute Coyote Guide. Wendover is a quaint little berg located 120 miles west of the Mormons' Salt Lake City and 120 miles east of Elko, Nevada. Elko, Nevada is famous for gold mines and well, gold mines. Elko does have this high fallutin' poetry festival and that about says it all. Wendover sits directly on the Utah/Nevada border. We Wendoverans like to call it the Gaza Strip, Utah/Nevada. That's because Wendover is occupied territory. We'll get to that occupied thingy momentarily. ...

Obama was reportedly still undecided about this bill in December of last year. We can count on televised debate moderators not to ask him if he has made up his mind. Now is the time to speak up for your right to criticize the government, Israel-first policies, Zionism, the multinational Military Industrial Complex, the SPP, our intelligence departments, and any other thing that bothers your conscience and your sense of patriotism. If we do not make our concerns known now, it may become increasingly difficult to either speak up in hindsight about this legislation or continue expressing yourselves about issues of political concern. Judge Clears CIA in Tape Destruction Post Date: 2008-01-13 08:49:09 by angle

Federal District Court Judge Henry Kennedy issued an order in the summer of 2005 directing the government to preserve all evidence in the case and ordered the government to appear before his court last month to answer charges that the tapes may have been covered by that order. However, in his ruling yesterday, Kennedy dealt a blow to the detainees' case, finding that the subjects on the tapes were not interrogated at Guantanamo, and therefore their interrogations were not covered by the court order. In declining to investigate the destruction of the tapes, Judge Kennedy rebuked the detainees' lawyers and ruled their contention that the Justice Department could not itself ...

New York, NY, January 11, 2008
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today called on the United States Supreme Court to continue to allow states to protect their citizens' lives, liberty and property by regulating the purchase and possession of firearms. The League urged the Court to ensure that states retain the ability to keep guns out of the hands of "violent bigots." Glen S. Lewy, ADL National Chair, and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement: This case is about allowing states to protect their citizens' lives, liberty and property by regulating the purchase and possession of firearms. Gun violence and the caching of dangerous ...

U.S. appeals court dismisses Guantanamo torture suit Fri Jan 11, 2008 3:34pm EST By James Vicini WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court ruled on Friday that four former Guantanamo prisoners, all British citizens, have no right to sue top Pentagon officials and military officers for torture, abuse and violations of their religious rights. The decision by a three-judge panel to dismiss the lawsuit came exactly six years after the first detainees arrived at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. The prison, which has been widely criticized by human rights advocates, now holds about 275 prisoners. President George W. Bush has acknowledged the prison's damage to the ...

Crisis in the U.S.: “Plan B”?
By Richard C. Cook
Global Research, November 11, 2007
Strange events are taking place in the U.S. By August 2007, a lot of very smart people were reading the tea leaves, convinced that the upper echelons of the U.S. government had their own hidden reasons for forecasting an event even more heinous than the attacks of September 11, 2001. President George W. Bush, Vice President Richard Cheney, and Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff had been hinting that another 9/11 could be coming.
Figures from the U.S. military had also projected a 9/11-type event. On April 23, 2006, for ...

CIA confirms Ventura meeting occurred Tim Pugmire /Minnesota Public Radio | January 3, 2008 The St. Paul Pioneer Press offered a sneak peek Thursday Jesse Ventura's forthcoming book, "Don't Start the Revolution Without Me." In one excerpt, Ventura describes a post-inaugural meeting with CIA agents. He also claims a CIA operative was on the state payroll. Even a Ventura confidant is questioning the account. But the surprising revelations are at least partially true. St. Paul, Minn. Shortly after taking office in 1999, Jesse Ventura writes he was asked to attend a meeting at the state Capitol. He says 23 CIA agents were waiting for him in a basement conference ...

The appalling fact that innocents have been locked up and abused at the U.S. prison for six long years is not the only reason we must close it now. A detainee is escorted by U.S. Navy guards in Camp Four, the facility containing the "most compliant" detainees, at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Station in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on Sept. 4, 2007. Jan. 11, 2008 | Today, America's Guantánamo era enters its seventh shameful year. If we are ever to regain our standing as a nation committed to the rule of law and fundamental human rights, we must close the detention facility at Guantánamo Bay now, reaffirm our commitment to international treaties and our own Constitution, ...

A man in his 20s died after a Coral Gables police officer used a Taser stun gun to subdue him Friday morning. He was identified Friday afternoon as Xavier Jones, 29. Jones had been disruptive at a party and resisted arrest, according to Miami-Dade police, whose homicide bureau is investigating the death. About 2 a.m., police officers responded to a call about a scuffle at University Inn Condominium, 1280 S. Alahambra Cir., near the University of Miami. The building is across the street from the university and borders on U.S. 1. After the man became disruptive inside the apartment, a security guard attempted to remove him from the property. The confrontation spilled outside. Miami-Dade ...

In what his attorney is calling censorship, an FBI whistleblower is being severely limited on what he is allowed to share with an audience at an upcoming trade meeting. Bassem Youssef, the highest ranking Arab-American FBI agent, is scheduled to speak to the ALA on January 12. After receiving a warning on January 3, Youssef decided, on the advice of his attorney, to no longer give the originally planned presentation on what he calls "critical failures within the FBI's counterterrorism program," said to undermine not only Americans' basic constitutional rights, but counterterrorism efforts as well. Instead, he will answer prepared questions from audience members. The FBI, ...

36 minutes ago WASHINGTON - Residents of at least 17 states are suddenly stuck in the middle of a fight between the Bush administration and state governments over post-Sept. 11 security rules for driver's licenses a dispute that, by May, could leave millions of people unable to use their licenses to board planes or enter federal buildings. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who was unveiling final details of the REAL ID Act's rules on Friday, said that if states want their licenses to remain valid for air travel after May 2008, those states must seek a waiver indicating they want more time to comply with the legislation. Chertoff, as he revealed final details of ...

New Rules For Driver's Licenses Meant To Deter Terrorists, Illegal Immigrants Post Date: 2008-01-10 19:34:22 by Brian S

WASHINGTON -- Americans born after Dec. 1, 1964, will have to get more secure driver's licenses in the next six years under ambitious post-9/11 security rules to be unveiled Friday by federal officials. The Homeland Security Department has spent years crafting the final regulations for the REAL ID Act, a law designed to make it harder for terrorists, illegal immigrants and con artists to get government-issued identification. The effort once envisioned to take effect in 2008 has been pushed back in the hopes of winning over skeptical state officials. Even with more time, more federal help, and technical advances, REAL ID still faces stiff opposition from civil liberties groups. To ...

German prosecutor annuls 1933 Reichstag fire ruling Thu Jan 10, 2008 4:59pm GMT BERLIN (Reuters) - The death sentence passed on Dutchman Marinus van der Lubbe for torching Berlin's Reichstag in 1933 was illegal, Germany's federal prosecutor said on Thursday. Van der Lubbe, a communist activist, was found guilty of treason and arson by the Reichsgericht, Germany's highest court at the time, in December 1933 and guillotined the following month in Leipzig. The burning of the Reichstag, the location of the German parliament, was a key event in the rise to power of the Nazis, who used it to stoke fears about the threat of communism. The Rebbe and President Ronald Reagan - Historical Correspondence Compiled by Dovid Zaklikowski The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory and President Ronald Reagan enjoyed a deep relationship for many years. Mr. Reagan displayed a profound respect toward the Rebbe and his teachings. The President was an early and enthusiastic adherent of the Rebbe's call to make all people aware of the Seven Universal Laws, based on the belief in a Supreme Being. The Rebbe's call for a moment of silence in the public schools, and his persistent belief that America must export to the world faith-based moral values, were among the themes that found a welcoming ear ...

What would Reagan do? Worldnetdaily By Rebecca Hagelin January 10, 2008 President Ronald Reagan. We're hearing a lot about him on the campaign trail these days. It seems everyone is invoking his name. Why? Because they sense that Americans are looking for true leadership based on the bedrock principles of our Founding Fathers: the principles of limited government, a strong national defense, traditional values and individual freedom. Ronald Reagan proved that when you govern according to these conservative principles when you do not waiver when you are steadfast and true to freedom America flourishes. Which brings us back to the thousands and thousands of ...
Appeals Court Won't Reinstate San Francisco Handgun Ban Post Date: 2008-01-10 00:22:04 by Brian S

01-09) 11:53 PST SAN FRANCISCO - A state appeals court refused today to revive a ban on handgun possession in San Francisco, saying the measure that city voters approved in November 2005 conflicts with state law. The First District Court of Appeal in San Francisco agreed with a June 2006 ruling by Superior Court Judge James Warren, who said local governments in California have no authority to prohibit handguns. Warren said a California law that authorizes police agencies to issue concealed-weapon permits implicitly forbids a city or county to ban handgun possession by law-abiding adults. The San Francisco measure, Proposition H, would have outlawed possession of handguns by all city ...
