Freedom Saved - Unsung Heroes Of Hate Bill Defeat By Rev. Ted Pike 12-17-7 As Americans, we still enjoy freedom of speech after the spectacular defeat of the federal hate bill. We should credit those who made this victory possible. Our heroes include the 180 House Republicans who, to the possible detriment of Republican Mideast objectives, refused to vote for the arms/hate bill package. Just as vital were thousands of listeners to alternative talk radio. Their protest inspired Republican opposition of the hate bill in the House, especially in the crucial five weeks after the hate bill was introduced in January. Looking Back In mid-November 2006, our National Prayer Network went on high ...
U.S. Judge Orders Release Of White House Visitor Logs Post Date: 2007-12-17 20:19:58 by Brian S

A federal judge Monday rejected Bush administration claims that White House visitor logs created by the Secret Service are not public records and ordered information involving the visits of nine conservative religious figures to be released to an advocacy group. The dispute involved an effort by the administration to keep secret records that have traditionally allowed the news media or Congress to keep tabs on who has been visiting the White House or vice president's office. Administration lawyers have taken the position that the logs are presidential records outside of the scope of the Freedom of Information Act. U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth rejected the Bush ...

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. - Thomas Jefferson, Proposal Virginia Constitution, Jume 1776 - Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 (C. These are some of the facts and the proofs furnished by official government publications, statutes, the Supreme Court of the United States or of a State. If you have other relevant facts with the proofs please let me know. I am not interested in "beliefs." If you believe something, but have no proof, I am not interested. Tell your beliefs to the Pope, or some religious authority that has "faith." When people have "faith" or "believe," in the copious "Patriot" bullshit circulating on the net, they usually go to prison or have their assets forfeited. Correct conclusions can be drawn from correct facts and correct proofs. False conclusions, ...

Telecom Industry Wins a Round on Eavesdropping By DAVID STOUT Published: December 17, 2007 WASHINGTON Telecommunications companies won a skirmish in the Senate on Monday as a bill to protect them from lawsuits for cooperating with the Bush administrations eavesdropping programs easily overcame a procedural hurdle. By 76 to 10, with Democrats divided, the Senate voted to advance the bill for consideration. A measure to block it, which was led by Senator Christopher J. Dodd, Democrat of Connecticut fell short, as those who wanted the bill to reach the floor got 16 votes more than the 60 needed to achieve that goal. What happens next is not immediately clear. A different ...
Police State America - A Look Back and Ahead Post Date: 2007-12-17 06:14:24 by Stephen Lendman

Police State America - A Look Back and Ahead - by Stephen Lendman Year end is a good time to look back and reflect on what's ahead. If past is prologue, however, the outlook isn't good, and nothing on the horizon suggests otherwise. Voters last November wanted change but got betrayal from the bipartisan criminal class in Washington. Their attitude shows in an October Reuters/Zogby (RZ) opinion poll with George Bush at 24% that tops Richard Nixon's worst showing of 25% at his lowest 1974 Watergate point. And if that looks bad, consider Congress with "The Hill" reporting from the same RZ Index that our legislators scored a "staggering 11%, the lowest ...

Wider Spying Fuels Aid Plan for Telecom Industry This article is by Eric Lichtblau, James Risen and Scott Shane. WASHINGTON For months, the Bush administration has waged a high-profile campaign, including personal lobbying by President Bush and closed-door briefings by top officials, to persuade Congress to pass legislation protecting companies from lawsuits for aiding the National Security Agencys warrantless eavesdropping program. But the battle is really about something much bigger. At stake is the federal governments extensive but uneasy partnership with industry to conduct a wide range of secret surveillance operations in fighting terrorism and crime. The ...

Inside the CIA's notorious "black sites" A Yemeni man never charged by the U.S. details 19 months of brutality and psychological torture -- the first in-depth, first-person account from inside the secret U.S. prisons. A Salon exclusive. By Mark Benjamin Dec. 15, 2007 | The CIA held Mohamed Farag Ahmad Bashmilah in several different cells when he was incarcerated in its network of secret prisons known as "black sites." But the small cells were all pretty similar, maybe 7 feet wide and 10 feet long. He was sometimes naked, and sometimes handcuffed for weeks at a time. In one cell his ankle was chained to a bolt in the floor. There was a small toilet. In another ...

Her Majesty's Prerogative Powers Post Date: 2007-12-15 20:02:23 by richard9151

Printed in The American Almanac, August 25, 1997. The idea of a ``constitutional monarchy'' is a myth. All that exists are ``oaths of allegiance'' to the monarch. Without the need for parliamentary authority, Queen Elizabeth has Royal Prerogative Powers. The following partial list of those powers is from the authoritative Burke's Peerage and Baronetage: the Queen alone may declare war at her pleasure; as commander-in-chief, the Queen may choose and appoint all commanders and officers by land, sea, and air; the Queen may convoke, adjourn, remove, and dissolve Parliament; the Queen may dismiss the prime minister and choose whom she will as the replacement; the Queen ...
Does the Bill of Rights Give You Rights? Post Date: 2007-12-15 17:34:10 by James Deffenbach

Does the Bill of Rights Give You Rights? In a recent issue of USA TODAY they had an online poll asking people if they agreed that the second amendment gave them the right to keep and bear arms. At the time I read it almost 15,000 people had taken part in it and an astounding 98% of them said yes. I say it was astounding because 98% of the people who took part in the poll were wrong. Neither the second amendment nor any other amendment confers any rights upon anyone. A Supreme Court ruling from 1884 is instructive in this issue. Here is a short excerpt from the ruling and a link to the entire case for those who may want to read it: As in our intercourse with our fellow men, certain ...

White House: Contempt citations futile Published: Dec. 13, 2007 at 6:06 PM WASHINGTON, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. Senate Democrats should know issuing contempt citations and pursuing a criminal case in the firings of U.S. attorneys is futile, the White House said. Dana Perino, White House press secretary, said Thursday the Senate Judiciary Committee's issuing contempt citations against former White House adviser Karl Rove and White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten is pointless because "the constitutional prerogative of the president would make it a futile effort for Congress to refer contempt citations to U.S. attorneys." The committee issued citations because Bolten did not ...

FBI agent threatened to arrest CIA interrogators in 2002. Last week, the CIA revealed that it had destroyed videotapes of interrogations of two al Qaeda detainees, including logistics chief Abu Zubaydah. Newsweek reports today that methods used in the interrogation of Zubaydah sparked an internal battle within the U.S. intelligence community to such an extent that one FBI agent threatened to arrest the CIA interrogators: The videotapes, made in 2002, showed the questioning of two high-level Qaeda detainees, including logistics chief Abu Zubaydah, whose interrogation at a secret cell in Thailand sparked an internal battle within the U.S. intelligence community after ...

It's like swimming, freestyle, backstroke. The waterboarding could be used almost to define some of the techniques that our trainees are put through, but that's beside the point." Link

CIA Does Not Have Transcripts of the Interrogations from the Destroyed Tapes Published 1, December 13, 2007 Administration officials are reporting that the CIA not only destroyed the tapes of the two suspects at the center of torture scandal, but they also did not allow transcripts to be made. This a very irregular practice given the importance of the suspects and further evidence to support a conspiracy to avoid or destroy evidence of torture. The Administration has always stressed that it only ordered waterboarding for the most important suspects. Yet, after taking these extraordinary measures, they now claim that all tapes were destroyed and no transcripts made. This is particularly ...

Since the beginning of civil contempt proceedings against Dr. Sami Al-Arian, we have been heavily restricted in what we can discuss in public due to the on-going court sealing of proceedings. Today, however, a defense motion to lift the contempt status of Dr. Al-Arian was granted. With the approaching termination of the grand jury in Alexandria, we filed for an order releasing him and strongly opposing any effort to daisy-chain a third grand jury ...

Dan Abrams examined the Bush administration's unprecedented use of signing statements in the second installment of his week-long MSNBC series on "Bush League Justice." "President Bush doesn't like to veto laws," Abrams began. "He doesn't have to. Since he took office, he's been attaching conditions to laws already passed by Congress, allowing him to essentially disobey the will of Congress and dramatically expand his own power." Bush has issued 1100 signing statements -- almost twice as many as all previous presidents put together -- often completely reversing the intended effect of legislation. For example, when Congress voted overwhelmingly ...

12/12/07 "AP" -- -- SAN FRANCISCOA federal appeals court has struck down portions of a law that makes it a crime to provide "material support or resources" to organizations classified as terrorist by the State Department. Parts of the 1996 anti-terrorism law and its 2004 amendments are unconstitutionally vague, a three-judge panel of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Monday. The San Francisco-based panel said that the ban on "material support or resources" to designated terrorists could be used to prosecute those who train members of such groups on how to peacefully resolve ongoing disputes or how to lobby the United Nations for disaster ...
