Carol Gotbaum's Message To America
Post Date: 2007-10-07 05:47:22 by robin

There are a number of people aligned with law enforcement who become disappointed when police don't receive the benefit of the doubt. You should know that the issue we have covered here is why this no longer is a given, as once Americans gave the benefit of the doubt to those serving them in Congress and public service. Nevertheless, we make our case by connecting dots normally invisible to others but in Gotbaum right in front of everyone's noses. Respectfully submitted, it becomes more apparent when articulated and expressed correctly. Carol Anne Gotbaum 1. A 45 year old woman dies when in police custody. ... 6. On Carol Ann Gotbaum, one of our valued readers noted to me this morning that the reason they allow police to use tasers is due to the fact that so many of those police need to control die as a result of choke holds.Email receivedOne of the thugs used a choke hold on her. she was probably screaming and cursing them and one of them got angry and put the choke hold on her to shut her up...but got carried away and killed her. It's extremely easy to do. Many have died from this maneuver...that was one of the reasons tasering became so popular... choke holds can kills quickly...ask any cop. The White House defense for torture: UPDATED with video

(h/t Scarce) The debate over U.S. torture policy erupted yesterday on the Hill, in the wake of yesterday’s NYT blockbuster, highlighting secret legal opinions from the Bush administration, which endorsed “the harshest interrogation techniques ever used by the Central Intelligence Agency.” The president’s aides fanned out to deny, defend, and spin the revelations, but for my money, the most impressive argument came by way of Frances Fragos Townsend. White House homeland security adviser Frances Fragos Townsend also dismissed objections to the CIA program yesterday, saying during an appearance on CNN that al-Qaeda members are trained to resist harsh interrogations. She ...

BAGHDAD A daring ambush of bombs and gunfire left Poland's ambassador pinned down in a burning vehicle Wednesday before being pulled to safety and airlifted in a rescue mission by the embattled security firm Blackwater USA. At least three people were killed, including a Polish bodyguard. American authorities confiscated an AP Television News videotape that contained scenes of the wounded being evacuated. U.S. military spokesman Lt. Col. Scott Bleichwehl told AP that Iraqi law make it illegal to photograph or videotape the aftermath of bombings or other attacks. The attack — apparently well planned in one of Baghdad's most secure neighborhoods — raised questions about ...

(10-04) 19:47 PDT COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) -- Security guards refused to allow a woman into a federal courthouse until she removed a bra that triggered a metal detector. Lori Plato said she and her husband, Owen Plato, were stunned when U.S. Marshals Service employees asked her to remove her bra after the underwire supports set off the alarm. "I asked if I could go into the bathroom because they didn't have a privacy screen and no women security officers were available," Plato said Wednesday. "They said, 'No.' "I wasn't carrying a shank in my bra. If it's so dangerous, why did they give it back and let me put it on?" Patrick ...

WASHINGTON - When a team of FBI agents lands in Baghdad this week to probe Blackwater security contractors for murder, it will be protected by bodyguards from the very same firm, the Daily News has learned. Half a dozen FBI criminal investigators based in Washington are scheduled to travel to Iraq to gather evidence and interview witnesses about a Sept. 16 shooting spree that left at least 11 Iraqi civilians dead. The agents plan to interview witnesses within the relative safety of the fortified Green Zone, but they will be transported outside the compound by Blackwater armored convoys, a source briefed on the FBI mission said. "What happens when the FBI team decides to go ...

by Fanny Carrier Tue Oct 2, 1:20 PM ET WASHINGTON (AFP) - Two US Army subcontractors accused of torturing prisoners at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib jail go to court Wednesday in a case that highlights the murky legal status of private US companies in Iraq. Titan and CACI International were hired by the Army to provide interrogators and interpreters at the notorious prison, the scene of well-documented abuses of detainees following the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. One former Iraqi prisoner now living in Sweden says that under the companies' watch, he was sodomized, nearly strangled with a belt, tied by his genitals to other detainees, and given repeated electric shocks. Questions Raised Over Terror Exercise

The nation is preparing for its biggest terrorism exercise ever next week when three fictional "dirty bombs" go off and cripple transportation arteries in two major U.S. cities and Guam, according to a document obtained by The Associated Press. Yet even as this drill begins, details from the previous national exercise held in 2005 have yet to be publicly released - information that's supposed to help officials prepare for the next real attack. House lawmakers were expected to demand answers Wednesday, including why the "after-action" report from 2005 hasn't been made public. Congress has required the exercise since 2000, but has done little in the way of ...

Rice calls for "360-degree look" at Blackwater scandal

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she wanted a no-holds barred probe into the affairs of private security company Blackwater USA accused of involvement in nearly 200 shootings in Iraq. Rice ordered the probe following fatal shootings by the company's staff in charge of protecting US diplomats in Iraq. "I have been very clear with people that I expect it to be probing, I expect it to be a 360-degree look, and I expect it to be unvarnished from these outside experts and I'm sure it will be," Rice said of the probe in an interview Monday with the New York Post. Blackwater has been involved in nearly 200 shootings in Iraq since 2005, according to a US Congress ...

Who Actually Attended The NSA's Secret Reporter Seminars?

Who Actually Attended The NSA's Secret Reporter Seminars? Last week, Josh Gerstein explained how the information control freaks at the National Security Agency conducted secret "seminars" for reporters—basically, little classes on how and when the government would like them to keep their mouths shut about top-secret and not-so-secret information. What's funny is that no one seems to remember the sessions, which went down at NSA headquarters between 2002 and 2004. Maureen Baginski, who was listed as a presenter at the seminars, said she had no recollection of being present. Why would she? She was only the FBI's "intelligence czar" back in 2004, ...

1. NSA 'Protection' for Commercial Computer Networks This is an NSA project that gives it control of commercial computer networks, ostensibly to protect the systems from hackers. The Baltimore Sun reports that "the plan calls for the NSA to work with the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies to monitor....networks to prevent unauthorized intrusion, according to those with knowledge of what is known internally as the "Cyber Initiative." What are these "networks?" Apparently, any internet or intranet used by a business designated (or self-designated) as "critical infrastructure." That is a vast and poorly defined category. As ...

The Draconian Becomes the Norm

Sometime during the demonstrations against the Republican National Convention, which renominated George W. Bush in August 2004, I went on a media protest march down the Valley of the Imperial Media, Sixth Avenue, in the Big Apple. I had certainly been on enough marches in my life, but I was amazed. Back in the Vietnam era, when the police photographed peaceful demonstrators, they tended to do it surreptitiously and out of uniform. Here, police in uniform with video cameras were proudly out in the open shooting what looked like continuous footage of us all. And that was the least of it. We demonstrators were surrounded by a veritable army of police, on horseback, on motorbike, on foot. As I ...

You gotta fight for your right (to vibrate)October 1st, 2007 by Steve Talk about vibrators is once again the buzz around Alabama. The United States Supreme Court refused to hear the Alabama sex toy case, ending a nine year battle for the right to keep and bear (well, more accurately, purchase) sex toys in the state. Sherri Williams provided the money quote in this AP article: An adult-store owner had asked the justices to throw out the law as an unconstitutional intrusion into the privacy of the bedroom. But the Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal, leaving intact a lower court ruling that upheld the law. Sherri Williams, owner of Pleasures stores in Huntsville and Decatur, ...

Panel: State Department suggested Blackwater pay off dead Iraqi's family Q1x00075_9 Feeling the financial pinch? There's always Iraq. The House Government Reform Committee reports in a new memo that the U.S. government is paying Blackwater USA $1,222 a day for each of the company's guards. (That adds up to $445,000 a year for each of the private security firm's guards, according to the committee.) Chairman Henry Waxman, the Democrat who has been leading an investigation into the controversial private military contractor, says Blackwater USA has averaged 1.4 shooting incidents a week since it started protecting U.S. officials. In about 80% of cases, Waxman says the ...

What I didn’t expect to find was an operational government program which targets immigrants and "potential terrorists" on a grand scale. Never missing an opportunity for Orwellian titles, the Department of Homeland Security has named this little gem "ENDGAME." Its goal is "the removal of all removable aliens, (including illegal economic migrants, aliens who have committed criminal acts, asylum-seekers required ...

A Pulaski County Circuit judge on Friday ordered a North Little Rock police officer to pay a former tow-truck driver $ 7, 500 in civil damages for using a racial slur. Judge Willard Proctor Jr. ruled that Lt. Terry Wilkins had violated Selma Jermaine Robinson’s civil rights. “I do believe the statement was made,” the judge said. “I do believe if [Robinson ] had been white, [Wilkins ] would not have directed that comment to him.” In affidavits, Wilkins was accused of calling Robinson a “nigger” during a quarrel when Robinson was called by police to tow a vehicle. The judge said he would also award unspecified attorney fees to Robinson’s lawyers ...
