Civilian prisons coming soon to U.S. Army base near you Post Date: 2007-08-31 08:42:03 by Eoghan

The U.S. Army is authorized to create civilian prison labor camps on military installations, according to a little-noticed regulation. The camps are allowed if the request comes from the Federal Bureau of Prisons or state corrections facilities under leasing requirements defined by federal law. WND's discovery of the regulation comes shortly after Bush administration directives expanding presidential powers during an emergency. The Army prison camp policy is defined in Army Regulation 210-35, entitled "Installations: Civilian Inmate Labor Camps," signed Feb. 14, 2005, by Sandra R. Riley, then-administrative assistant to the secretary of the Army. The regulation revises an ...
Point, Click ... Eavesdrop: How the FBI Wiretap Net Operates Post Date: 2007-08-30 19:46:43 by Brian S

The FBI has quietly built a sophisticated, point-and-click surveillance system that performs instant wiretaps on almost any communications device, according to nearly a thousand pages of restricted documents newly released under the Freedom of Information Act. The surveillance system, called DCSNet, for Digital Collection System Network, connects FBI wiretapping rooms to switches controlled by traditional land-line operators, internet-telephony providers and cellular companies. It is far more intricately woven into the nation's telecom infrastructure than observers suspected. It's a "comprehensive wiretap system that intercepts wire-line phones, cellular phones, SMS and ...
Attorney General Bruce Fein Post Date: 2007-08-30 05:48:57 by Ada

It is likely -- though not entirely certain in these tumultuous times for the dangerously adrift Bush-Cheney administration -- that the next Attorney General of the United States will be a conservative. The question is whether he or she will be a conservative who disregards the Constitution -- as did the disgraced and disgraceful Alberto Gonzales -- or a conservative who respects the document. Richard A. Viguerie, the political direct-mail pioneer who has been referred to as "the funding father of the conservative movement," ought to understand the distinction better than just about anyone. Viguerie has been at odds with the Bush-Cheney administration for the past several years ...
Pot Growers Are New Target in "War on Terror" Under Bush, terror has become a justification for any and every abuse of power. Post Date: 2007-08-29 21:26:35 by freepatriot32

Last time we checked in on the bizarro nexus between cannabis and terrorism, it was none other than actor/director Tommy Chong who was feeling the Bush administration's post-9/11 wrath. In fact, the stoner icon, whose fabled act was concurrently resuscitated for Fox's drugged and confused comedy hit That 70s Show, was being slapped by John Ashcroft with a nine-month prison bid, a $20,000 fine and over $100,000 in seized assets for selling bongs. The terrorism connection? He was sentenced on Sept. 11, 2003. And if you think that's a specious connection, it's only gotten worse since. In fact, over the last few years, "terrorist" has become an epithet for all seasons. ...
There is no Constitution; it is a carefully crafted illusion, Part I RE-POST CONTAINS NEW INFORMATION & THE SOLUTION Post Date: 2007-08-29 15:27:15 by richard9151

There is no Constitution, Part I Introduction This is the final version of this paper. It was released in a limited fashion before that it could be checked for errors by numerous people. That has been done, and the additional information that has been added is a result of the comments that were returned to me. It should be noted here that while there were more than a few complaints about the information contained herein, there were no factual errors detected. This paper is now ready for general distribution. In the comments that were made, I admit to being shocked that most of them concerned the Masons, the Thirteenth Tribe, and, even more so, how few people understood-understand what ...

I am going to make this short and sweet. This is part of my work on the second part of; There is no Constitution; it was a carefully crafted illusion. SURPRI-ISE! The government has convinced a red white and true blue, no doubt patriotic, all-American jury that former "dirty bomber" José Padilla had been conspiring, or at least aspiring to conspire, with those devils, the al-Qaeda, to wage a war of terror against America the Beautiful, Our Country 'Tis of Thee from Sea to Shining Sea, while the storm clouds gather, so help us, George! According to all the news reports, the evidence the government produced consisted primarily of Padilla's fingerprints all over an application form from someone seeking admission to an al-Qaeda training camp. Anyone smell a rat here? They have application forms for that? In what ...
Gonzales' work expanded power of the presidency Post Date: 2007-08-29 06:19:44 by Ada

In the aftermath of Alberto Gonzales' resignation and the U.S. attorney firings scandal, many have forgotten about the role he played in creating policies profoundly more troubling from a global perspective - policies that violate international law. They warrant not only Gonzales' resignation, but an independent investigation into his involvement in war crimes. These policies are best exemplified by the "torture memos" Gonzales prepared from 2001 to 2003 while serving as President Bush's legal counsel. The documents, written by him and other administration lawyers, led to grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions and the U.N. Convention against Torture at Guantanamo ...
Brown under pressure as more than 100 Labour MPs back EU referendum Post Date: 2007-08-28 16:05:16 by Horse

Gordon Brown is under growing pressure over the revived EU constitution after senior Labour MPs told him: "Tear it up or hold a referendum." A hard core of 40 backbenchers are drawing up a list of up to 15 sweeping amendments to the controversial new treaty - condemned as a carbon copy of the abandoned constitution. They claim to have the backing of around a third of Labour MPs. Dissenters insist the Prime Minister must make major changes - or honour a Government promise to let people vote on the Brussels power grab. Labour MPs are upset at being duped by ministers who offered assurances the treaty was significantly different even though on closer inspection it was ...

Siblings face felony after sprinkling flour [Full Thread] Post Date: 2007-08-26 23:35:29 by Ferret Mike

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Two people who sprinkled flour in a parking lot to mark a trail for their offbeat running club inadvertently caused a bioterrorism scare and now face a felony charge. The sprinkled powder forced hundreds to evacuate an IKEA furniture store Thursday. New Haven ophthalmologist Daniel Salchow, 36, and his sister, Dorothee, 31, who is visiting from Hamburg, Germany, were both charged with first-degree breach of peace, a felony. The siblings set off the scare while organizing a run for a local chapter of the Hash House Harriers, a worldwide group that bills itself as a "drinking club with a running problem." "Hares" are given the task of marking a trail ...

The Godzilla of Executive Orders - 12919by bernardpliers Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 04:09:50 PM PDTExecutive Order 12919 (National Defense Industrial Resources Preparedness) is the Godzilla of Executive Orders. In times of "national emergency" it allows the executive branch to seize power and ignore most of the powers of Congress. Beside giving the executive branch the power of life and death over most of the population, it also very explicitly makes the federal budget the executive's personal plaything for the purpose of granting contracts to favored contractors, and it allows the government to be run directly by consultants. In practice, it puts all power into the hands of the ...
Man Has Gastric Surgery in Adoption Bid(nanny state socialism its not just for smokers anymore) Post Date: 2007-08-26 14:31:42 by freepatriot32

DALLAS - A man who weighed 558 pounds when a Missouri judge prevented him from adopting a child he and his wife had taken into their home underwent gastric bypass surgery Friday in a bid to win the child back. Gary Stocklaufer, a 34-year-old truck driver, and his wife claim a judge unfairly discriminated against them because of his weight in deciding to give 4-month-old Max to another couple for possible adoption. The infant from Arlington, who is related to the Stocklaufers, had lived with them since he was a week old. This is considered the first case where a couple seeking to adopt has resorted to surgery in the increasingly prevalent practice of denying parents adoptions because they ...

Whistleblowers on Fraud Facing Penalties (Navy veteran imprisoned for reporting fraud in Iraq) Post Date: 2007-08-25 10:25:26 by Zipporah

One after another, the men and women who have stepped forward to report corruption in the massive effort to rebuild Iraq have been vilified, fired and demoted. Or worse. For daring to report illegal arms sales, Navy veteran Donald Vance says he was imprisoned by the American military in a security compound outside Baghdad and subjected to harsh interrogation methods. There were times, huddled on the floor in solitary confinement with that head-banging music blaring dawn to dusk and interrogators yelling the same questions over and over, that Vance began to wish he had just kept his mouth shut. He had thought he was doing a good and noble thing when he started telling the FBI about the ...

Bilderberg Pushes American Superstate Posted: 2007/08/25 Leaders of Bilderberg have gathered for a closed meeting in Montebello, Quebec. On the agenda is a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) that explains how ''hemispheric integration'' will be a blessing for all and not a surrender of sovereignty. By James P. Tucker Jr. Leaders of Bilderberg have gathered the appropriate flunkies at the Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello, about 50 miles outside Quebec, to accomplish a North American Union without congressional action. Bilderberg met at the same site in 1983. The Aug. 20-21 session of the unknown Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) is ...
ACLU Sues DEA On Behalf Of Trucker Whose Money Was Seized Post Date: 2007-08-24 14:33:36 by Brian S

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. A trucker has sued the Drug Enforcement Administration, seeking to get back nearly $24,000 seized by DEA agents earlier this month at a weigh station on U.S. 54 in New Mexico north of El Paso, Texas. Anastasio Prieto of El Paso gave a state police officer at the weigh station permission to search the truck to see if it contained "needles or cash in excess of $10,000," according to the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed the federal lawsuit Thursday. Prieto told the officer he didn't have any needles but did have $23,700. Officers took the money and turned it over to the DEA. DEA agents photographed and fingerprinted Prieto over his ...
White House Manual Details How to Deal With Protesters Post Date: 2007-08-24 02:11:51 by Mekons4

Not that they're worried or anything. But the White House evidently leaves little to chance when it comes to protests within eyesight of the president. As in, it doesn't want any. A White House manual that came to light recently gives presidential advance staffers extensive instructions in the art of "deterring potential protestors" from President Bush's public appearances around the country. Among other things, any event must be open only to those with tickets tightly controlled by organizers. Those entering must be screened in case they are hiding secret signs. Any anti-Bush demonstrators who manage to get in anyway should be shouted down by "rally ...

The Authority to Abuse the Constitution Post Date: 2007-08-23 05:57:41 by Ada

The FBI's New Power On August 4, ignoring former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who had spoken of Bush's "phony war" on terrorism, Congress authorized vast authority for repressive agencies to spy further on the public. Under the pretext of "fighting terror," the bill opens further already existing wide parameters for telephone and email intrusion without court warrants. As usual, Democrats capitulated. Some fearing the wuss label, others actually agreeing that Bush needed more power to diminish the already diminishing Bill of Rights to deal with the "terrorist threat." 41 House Democrats voted for the Bill, 16 in the Senate. Congress refuses to learn. ...
Director of National Intelligence: FISA Debate Will Kill Americans Post Date: 2007-08-22 22:28:02 by Brian S

With a heavy heart, Director of National Intelligence Michael McConnell told a Texas newspaper last week that due to the public debate over revising the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, Americans will die. McConnell, who before the late July-early August FISA legislation enjoyed broad bipartisan respect, placed the predicted deaths of Americans at the doorstep of an open society. Thanks to widespread efforts to understand what the NSA's highly classified warrantless surveillance program is -- from journalists, from legal scholars, from national security experts, from elected officials -- the Bush administration was forced last month to reveal too much about how the program ...
