Heaviest Israeli bombings kill dozens in Lebanon The eighth day of Israeli air strikes on Lebanon has proved the deadliest. The bombardments killed at least 57 civilians and a Hizbollah fighter. Most of the victims were in southern and eastern areas. The southern village of Srifa is mourning 17 of its residents, many of them children. For the first time, a Christian district of Beirut was hit. No casualties were reported there. Raids on the capital had previously been concentrated on southern districts where Hizbollah has a strong presence. Israel also renewed its bombing of the runway at Beirut international airport, which has been closed since Thursday. Israel says it has destroyed ...

Senior Justice Officials "Stunned" Prez Ordered NSA Probe Blocked By Justin Rood - July 18, 2006, 6:26 PM The news today that President Bush acted to block an internal Justice Department probe relating to the NSA's domestic spying operations is both a bigger and more complicated a story than one would think, given the space it will probably be given in tomorrow's papers. In sum, it's an example of how even arcane tools of oversight can be subverted by the Executive Office of the President. As we know, for at least three years, the NSA's domestic spying efforts have evaded scrutiny by Congress, the secret FISA review process, and the judicial branch. This Justice Department ...

Back To Treasury By Greg Szymanski 7-18-6 Despite the Bush and Clinton crime families efforts to rip-off the country of more than 27.5 trillion, Wanta has recovered more than 1.2 trillion. He further thanked the Arctic Beacon for being one of the only news outlets to believe his story as the mainstream media remains hush-hush. Good news for the American people, courtesy of former Ambassador Leo Wanta, as more than 1.2 trillion dollars is being returned to the U.S. Treasury. Although a rather hefty sum, it is only a small portion of the 27.5 trillion, now more than doubled due to interest, Wanta has been trying to recover on behalf of the American people since the end of the Cold War. ...

For Brooks, the highlight of the $10 million gala was a performance by rockers from Aerosmith. So pumped was the middle-aged Long Island businessman that he reportedly donned a hot pink, metal-studded suede pantsuit to cavort onstage with Steven Tyler. While Brooks was enjoying his rock star fantasy, dark clouds were forming over him and his company, ...

The House Government Reform Committee has subpoenaed the former law firm of convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff for records of any contacts he or members of his lobbying team had with the Bush White House. Chairman Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.) authorized a subpoena weeks ago to Greenberg Traurig, according to several of the law firm's former clients who have been notified that it is turning over billing records, e-mails, phone logs and other material that reflects efforts to lobby the White House. Representatives of four of Abramoff's former tribal clients said they have been notified by Greenberg Traurig that the firm is turning over records. In some cases, there were scores of phone calls ...

The U.S. Senate unanimously passed legislation that would release $25 million in homeland security funds for non-profit groups. The amendment to the Homeland Security Appropriations bill, sponsored by Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), instructs the Homeland Security Department to disburse $25 million in 2006 funds within the next three months. The department had not disbursed any funds yet, saying they were reserved only for "credible" threats, a standard Jewish groups said was impossible to meet. The legislation would allow money to be spent on potential threats, and comes a day after Michael Chertoff, the homeland security secretary, told Agudath ...

MILLERSBURG, Ohio - A judge has ruled that a state dairy law prohibiting the sale of raw milk does not violate an Amish dairy farmer's religious beliefs and has ordered him not to sell unlabeled milk from his farm. Arlie Stutzman, who owns a herd of 27 cows near Mount Hope, appeared in court June 30 to protest a law that he says violates his religious beliefs because it prohibits him from sharing milk he produces with others. Holmes County Common Pleas Judge Thomas D. White wrote that Stutzman may give his unpasteurized milk away to people in need, but may not accept donations for it. "Calling the compensation for milk a 'donation' is clearly a subterfuge to skirt the requirements ...

The next three chapters examine insider trading beforehand and the 9-11 flights themselves, then the evidence -- based partly upon ...

Tue Jul 11, 2006 8:32 PM ET By David Morgan WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration is preparing a crackdown on intelligence leaks to the media and will try to pursue prosecutions in some recent cases, the chairman of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee on Tuesday. Michigan Republican Rep. Peter Hoekstra also suggested some unauthorized leaks could have been deliberate attempts to help al Qaeda. "More frequently than what we would like, we find out that the intelligence community has been penetrated, not necessarily by al Qaeda, but by other nations or organizations," he said. "I don't have any evidence. But from my perspective, when you have ...

GLOBAL GOVERNMENT AND IT'S AMERICAN LEADERSHIP Nancy Levant July 11 , 2006 http://NewsWithViews.com The problem with having too much globalization knowledge is that you focus upon specific lies, deceptions, and scams while forgetting the most simplistic issues. Such thoughts come to mind when considering that none of our elected officials are ever required to address their global governance actions. In fact, they simply refuse to talk about the subject, pretending it doesnt exist. The entire world is talking about the new global government, which already exists, but American representatives are dead mute on the subject. Worried about being hung, maybe? Every ...

Pentagon to apply Geneva Conventions to all detainees in military custody: FT Jaime Jansen at 8:00 AM ET [JURIST] The US military has decided to apply the Geneva Conventions [ICRC materials] to all detainees held in US military custody around the world, according to Tuesday's Financial Times. The move marks a sharp reversal from a previous policy classifying detainees as "enemy combatants" outside the protections of Article 3 [text] of the Geneva Conventions. The provision, often called Common Article 3 as it is common to all four Geneva Conventions, prohibits torture and other inhumane treatment and mandates basic legal rights - "all the judicial guarantees which are ...

Censoring the Military Embeds One could devote a lifetimeor at least the better part of a yearto chronicling all the propaganda-like tricks the Bush administration and the military have pursued over the past few years. Here's a new one, courtesy of Rod Norland, Newsweek's former bureau chief: The military has started censoring many [embedded reporting] arrangements. Before a journalist is allowed to go on an embed now, [the military] check[s] the work you have done previously. They want to know your slant on a story they use the word slant what you intend to write, and what you have written from embed trips before. If they don't like what you have done before, ...

Mon Jul 10, 2006 1:57 PM ET DETROIT (Reuters) - The Bush administration on Monday asked a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the National Security Agency's domestic eavesdropping program, arguing that defending the four-year-old wiretapping program in open court would risk national security. In arguments before U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor in Detroit, the American Civil Liberties Union on Monday renewed its call for a court order that would force the government to suspend its program of intercepting without a court order the international phone calls and e-mails of U.S. citizens. But the U.S. Justice Department has asked federal judges in Detroit and New York to ...

The supreme court has essentially ruled that the entire war on terror- to the extent that it violates the constitution, the body of common law, or the common articles of the Geneva Conventions- is illegal and must end immediately. Let me repeat that in even simpler terms: The supreme court has, in the clearest terms they could muster, ...

Monday July 10, 12:11 PM Suspected dissident CIA faction exposed by lawmaker A high-ranking Republican lawmaker, in a letter made public, exposed what he sees as a dissident faction within the CIA that he says "intentionally undermined" the policies of President George W. Bush. Rumors about the existence of such a group have circulated in the US capital for a long time, but the comments by Representative Peter Hoekstra, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, mark the first time they were confirmed by an official with intimate knowledge of the intelligence community. "In fact, I have been long concerned that a strong and well-positioned group within the agency ...

Gentle reader, did you know that in April President Bush went to Stanford University to speak to the Hoover Institution fellows at the invitation of former Secretary of State George Shultz but was not allowed on campus? The Stanford students got wind of it and blocked Bush's access to the campus. The Hoover fellows had to go to Shultz's home to hear Bush's pitch for war and more war. A person might think that it would be national news that Stanford University students would not allow the President of the US on campus. It happened to be a day that hundreds of prospective freshmen were on campus with their parents, many of whom joined the demonstration against Bush. I did not hear or read a ...

In a letter sent in May, Republican House Intelligence Committee chairman Peter Hoekstra told Bush that not informing Congress about "special projects" may be illegal and warned him that he may lose support from some party members on national security matters, the New York Times reveals in its Sunday edition. "If these allegations are true, they may represent a breach of responsibility by the administration, a violation of the law, and, just as importantly, a direct affront to me and the members of this committee who have ...
