The modern-day limited-government movement has been co-opted. The conservatives have failed in their effort to shrink the size of government. There has not been, nor will there soon be, a conservative revolution in Washington. Party control of the federal government has changed, but the inexorable growth in the size and scope of government has continued unabated. The liberal arguments for limited government in personal affairs and foreign military adventurism were never seriously considered as part of this revolution. Since the change of the political party in charge has not made a difference, whos really in charge? If the particular party in power makes little difference, whose policy is ...

City wants back rent

Expects homeowners who lost case to pay hundreds of thousands In the adding insult to injury category, the city officials that triumphed over a group of Connecticut homeowners in a landmark Supreme Court property-rights case are expecting those residents to pay the local government rent dating back to the year 2000. The June 23 Supreme Court ruling in Kelo v. City of New London gave the town the approval to seize the residents' homes and transfer them to a private party for development of an office complex. In the highly controversial decision, the justices ruled 5-4 that the economic development resulting from the eminent domain action qualified as "public use" under the Fifth ...

The U.S. Government can prohibit private possession of gold and silver

12:11p ET Saturday, August 20, 2005 Dear Friend of GATA and Gold: The U.S. Government has the authority to prohibit the private possession of gold and silver coin and bullion by U.S. citizens during wartime, and, during wartime and declared emergencies, to freeze their ownership of shares of mining companies, the Treasury Department has told the Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee. But gold and silver advocates shouldn't feel too picked on. For the U.S. Government claims the authority in declared emergencies to seize or freeze just about everything else that might be considered a financial instrument. The Treasury Department's assertions came in a letter dated August 12 and written by Sean ...

COWS Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that our government can track a cow born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she sleeps in the state of Washington. And they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give them all a cow. CONSTITUTION They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it's worked for over 200 years and we're not using it anymore. TEN COMMANDMENTS The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse? You cannot post "Thou ...

2 Illegal Immigrants Win Arizona Ranch in CourtBy ANDREW POLLACK DOUGLAS, Ariz., Aug. 18 - Spent shells litter the ground at what is left of the firing range, and camouflage outfits still hang in a storeroom. Just a few months ago, this ranch was known as Camp Thunderbird, the headquarters of a paramilitary group that promised to use force to keep illegal immigrants from sneaking across the border with Mexico. Now, in a turnabout, the 70-acre property about two miles from the border is being given to two immigrants whom the group caught trying to enter the United States illegally. The land transfer is being made to satisfy judgments in a lawsuit in which the immigrants had said that Casey ...

Diary of a Madman John Chuckman – August 19, 2005 The following passages were assembled from shredded paper found in an American National Archives dumpster by the Iranian Ambassador. A team of the country's best rug craftsmen is said to be working full-time on puzzling out the complete text. While some portions of this first batch could not be separated from dried globs resembling half-digested pretzels and spattered root beer, much remains legible. Authenticity, while not established, seems likely since the paper bears White House watermarks. The text appears to have been transcribed from recordings with much of the President's special flair for language suppressed, although ...

Of course, few are putting it that way. But in an August 8, 2005, Washington Post article, its author Bradley Graham headlined it this way: "War Plans Drafted To Counter Terror Attacks in U.S.—Domestic Effort is Big Shift for Military." What a flair for understatement. Datelined from Colorado Springs, the Evangelical Christian, Northern Command headquarters, Graham writes, "The U.S. Military has devised its first-ever war plans for guarding against and responding to terrorist attacks in the United States, envisioning 15 potential crisis scenarios and anticipating several simultaneous strikes around the country, according to officers who drafted the plans." Well ...

Big Game 'Could Roam US Plains' BBC News 8-18-5 If a group of US researchers have their way, lions, cheetahs, elephants and camels could soon roam parts of North America, Nature magazine reports. The plan, which is called Pleistocene re-wilding, is intended to be a proactive approach to conservation. The initiative would help endangered African animals while creating jobs, the Cornell University scientists say. Evidence also suggests, they claim, that "megafauna" can help maintain ecosystems and boost biodiversity. "If we only have 10 minutes to present this idea, people think we're nuts," said Harry Greene, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at Cornell ...

The nomination of Judge John Roberts to sit on the Supreme Court has reopened a bitter cultural divide in America, and the Senate confirmation hearings in September may exhibit more of the partisan rancor that characterized the Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas hearings. It’s sad that so many Americans see their freedoms as dependent on a single Supreme Court justice. Federal judges were never meant to wield the tremendous power that they do in modern America. Our Founders would find it inconceivable that a handful of unelected, unaccountable federal judges can decide social policy for the entire nation. Dozens of political pressure groups stood ready to launch an immediate public ...

Thank you for getting involved. See the full text of Elizabeth Edwards' message below. Casey Sheehan was born May 29, 1979, the first born child of Cindy and Pat Sheehan. It was a long labor. Fifty-one days after Casey was born, our first child, Wade was born, also after a long labor. They started school the same year, played the same games, watched the same television shows, loved the same country. On April 4, 1996, three weeks after going to Washington as a winner in a national contest about what America meant to him, Wade died in an automobile accident. On April 4, 2004, eight years later to the day, Casey, who loved his country enough to wear its uniform, died in Iraq. Cindy and ...

Lobbying against America

CNN) -- There's no denying both political parties in Congress are now owned lock, stock and barrel by corporate interests. Our nation's elected officials in Washington have formed a partnership with the corporate supremacists and special interest groups in an effort to drive profits to the bottom line of U.S. multinationals at the expense of hard-working Americans. Congress over the past few months has all-too-willingly approved corporate-friendly -- and often corporate-written -- transportation and energy bills, as well as so-called bankruptcy reform that further rents the middle class' social safety net. And not surprisingly, there's a serious correlation between the dramatic increase in ...

Tells How FBI Higher-Ups 'Shut Him Down' Letting 9/11 Happen Janet Parker was helping O'Neill get close to a known terrorist kingpin in the months preceeding 9/11, but says FBI officials did everything in their power to block O'Neill. A Seattle woman who was a close informant of former FBI agent and Al Qaeda hunter John O’Neill during the crucial months prior to the 9/11, said they both provided vital information in an attempt to stop the attack but were blocked by officials in the New York and Washington bureaus every step of the way. The UN wants your Guns. Michael E. Cook To all you gun owners and those who like your freedoms and rights I want to give you a heads up. The United Nations is working very hard on a treaty that would impose a world wide ban on civilian ownership of firearms. The UN in New York held an international conference on July 11th through the 15th. In attendance were many nations and lots of gun ban groups. They hope to have this treaty ready for every nation to sign by next year. So you say how would this effect me as a gun owner, well I’ll tell you. Any treaty that is signed trumps the Constitution and our bill of rights as I understand the law. That means if some president we elect would ...

War Vet Has Property Raided After Calling Bush a Liar On Radio Call-in Greg Szymanski | August 15 2005 Don Stout looked up into the Midwestern sky one afternoon two weeks ago and saw a strange helicopter flying over his five-acre piece of land in rural Albany, Ohio. Before he knew what happened, the 77-year-old long-time resident, law-abiding citizen and Korean War veteran had eight law enforcement officials swarm on his property, checking the place out for marijuana. Never before having a run-in with the law, Stout said the heavy-handed looking group of law enforcement thugs “came and went without saying a word” after suspiciously looking at a large bush on his property not ...

Election Fraud Continues in the US New Data Shows Widespread Vote Manipulations in 2004 By Peter Phillips In the fall of 2001, after an eight-month review of 175,000 Florida ballots never counted in the 2000 election, an analysis by the National Opinion Research Center confirmed that Al Gore actually won Florida and should have been President. However, coverage of this report was only a small blip in the corporate media as a much bigger story dominated the news after September 11, 2001. New research compiled by Dr. Dennis Loo with the University of Cal Poly Pomona now shows that extensive manipulation of non-paper-trail voting machines occurred in several states during the 2004 election. ...

TREASONGATE: The Federal Grand Jury, FOURTH BRANCH of the US Government By Citizen Spook August 14, 2005 If Patrick Fitzgerald is somehow illegally removed as Special Counsel in the Treasongate proceedings, the grand jury(s) he has impaneled will serve at the mercy of Fitzgerald's replacement, an individual who will have been brought in to shield the Bush administration from criminal prosecution for its many treasons. If that grand jury is aware of their true Constitutional power, it's possible they might stand up, fight, and win a legal battle that is long overdue. Furthermore, all of us may one day serve as grand jurors in federal court, and I hope this article will educate the reader ...

Banister Trial Juror Authors Article on Trial Experience Dear Friends, I was very fortunate to have a jury that was keenly focused on weighing the evidence in my trial. How do I know the members of my jury were keenly focused on weighing the evidence? Because I had the good fortune to speak with two of them who told me so. I have remained in contact with them and one has authored an article about being a juror at my trial. The article is posted to http://www.freedomabovefortune.com (click on IRS LOCKOUT UPDATE and scroll down to the bottom of the document list). We MUST educate as many Americans as possible because some of those Americans will end up on a jury. Our government ...

Dear Friends: It is with great sadness that I report Larken Rose was convicted of 5 misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file federal income tax returns yesterday (Friday, August 12, 2005). It is my understanding that the jury deliberated for less than an hour, which it seems to me would make it impossible to sincerely review the evidence in a trial that spanned approximately four days. As you may recall, the jury in my trial deliberated for approximately 2 days. Jurors who spoke to me after my trial said they were careful to review all of the evidence so that a fair verdict could be reached. When one considers that (1) there are millions of Americans who do not file federal income ...
