Arizona Takes Off Its "Rainbow Shades" Cal Thomas Tuesday, April 27, 2010 Arizona has decided that if the federal government will not live up to its responsibility to control the border, it will. Governor Jan Brewer, a Republican, signed a bill that allows police officers to inquire about a person's immigration status if there is reason to suspect that individual might be an illegal immigrant. The governor correctly noted that the new law "represents another tool for our state to use as we work to solve a crisis we did not create and the federal government has refused to fix." The latest example of that failure is the Obama administration's refusal to finish ...

Lawmakers Urged to Secure Border Before Seeking Immigration Overhaul Post Date: 2010-04-26 11:44:43 by christine

With lawmakers on Capitol Hill reviving debate over a comprehensive immigration overhaul bill, Republicans and border-state residents are urging congressional leaders not to lift a legislative finger until they've dealt with border security. Violence on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border is raging. On Friday, gunmen killed seven police officers in Ciudad Juarez across the border from El Paso, Texas. The Juarez drug cartel claimed responsibility for the brazen attack. Gunmen attacked another government convoy on Saturday in the western state of Michoacan -- in a sign that the cartels have shifted tactics and are starting to target law enforcement and government officials, as opposed ...
Is the US a sort of Roach Motel? Post Date: 2010-04-26 11:02:23 by Flintlock

Is the US a sort of Roach Motel? Immigration is a big hot button issue in some states, especially those along the southern border of the US. However, does anyone ever look at emigration from the United States? Now that we are on the road to western european style socialism thanks to the DemocraticSocialist party, perhaps we should take a look at it. People used to flee from Europe to the US for many reasons. In the early 1900s, it was for economic opportunity, and it still is the primary driver of immigration from all over the world today. Latin Americans, Indians, Asians come here for the same reasons Europeans came, the streets of the US are paved in gold compared to where they ...

As the national debate over illegal immigration reignites, Farmers Branch remains in the middle of the battle as city leaders refuse to accept the unconstitutionality of rules they put in place to prevent illegal immigrants from renting homes. The Dallas suburb plans to appeal a court ruling against its ordinance, which would prevent landlords from renting houses or apartments to illegal immigrants and it hopes to serve as an example to other communities trying to deal with illegal immigration. "Farmers Branch is a town of law and order ... a patriotic, American-loving town," Mayor Tim O'Hare said. "I think this is important for America. It's important to ...

My friend Gary Karlin over at the Evanston Conservative blog has spent the last year or so collecting a series of stories detailing the costs of illegal aliens to the United States. With just the 14 news stories he highlights, the cost rings in at a staggering $338.3 Billion in money wasted by government giving freebies to illegal aliens as well as in law enforcement costs. Free schools, free medial care, free Medicaid, free food, free social services, its a veritable cornucopia of freebies streaming out of our various governments coffers to these people who broke our laws to get here and are breaking our laws to stay. Again, I want to stress that the costs that Gary added up ...

Sen. Lindsey Graham ("Flaming-'Mo" R-S.C.) believes that a sudden turn to immigration could 'destroy' any hope of a major climate and energy bill this year. AP A top Senate negotiator on climate change believes that a sudden turn by Senate Democrats to immigration could destroy any hope of a major climate and energy bill this year. This comes out of left field, said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), after hearing that Democratic leaders may now push immigration reform ahead of a climate bill. Im working as earnestly as I can to craft climate and energy independence, clean air and jobs, and now were being told that were ...

MEXICO CITY President Felipe Calderon insisted Friday that few innocent civilians have fallen victim to Mexico's bloody drug war, saying nearly all those killed are people tied to cartels wrestling for power. Speaking during a tourism conference, Calderon said criminals constitute more than 90 percent of drug war's death toll, which stands at nearly 23,000 in just over three years. Calderon said police officers and soldiers make up less than 5 percent of deaths and bystanders or other innocents even less. "But even so, my friends, I recognize that it's a real problem," Calderon said of the drug violence. "We are fighting it with firmness and we are ...

An elaborate human-smuggling network that ferried tens of thousands of illegal immigrants into Arizona using shuttle vans was broken up Thursday during a series of raids, federal authorities said. In what officials called the biggest operation of its kind targeting illegal-immigrant smuggling, 47 people were arrested at five companies in Phoenix, Tucson and Nogales during sweeps involving more than 800 federal agents and local police. Mexican police rounded up more people south of the border in the culmination of a two-year Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation into human smuggling linked to Mexican drug cartels. PHOENIX -- The Arizona House on Tuesday approved a bill that would draw local communities deeper into the fight against illegal immigration despite arguments from opponents that it would do nothing to keep people safer. House Republicans advanced the measure on a 35-21 party-line vote. The Senate approved the bill in February but must concur to changes made in the House before sending it to Gov. Jan Brewer. Supporters celebrated the bill as a tough crackdown on illegal immigration that will protect the state from violent criminals. Arizona's struggling economy has driven many illegal immigrants from the state. But as the economy rebounds, "so too will the illegal immigrants -- ...

My only girl.'' Throughout the day, detectives searched for answers in the senseless ...

I just heard this and wanted to get the entire story before saying anything about it. Sheriff Arvin West of Hudspeth County, the third largest county in Texas has told his citizens to arm themselves, that he can no longer provide protection for them against spillover violence in the border areas. Im sure the sheriff did not take this lightly, the violence pouring over the Mexican/American border is rapidly getting beyond what local and state authorities can contain. The sheriff made the statement at a town hall meeting. Governor Rick Perry has already activated the Texas border violence spillover contingency plan, in which he requested federal aid. There is no doubt that Texas is a ...

The two men were found stripped to the waist and hung by the neck from the bridge near a shopping mall early Friday morning in Cuernavaca, said the attorney general's office for Morelos state, which includes the city. Mexican media reported the hitmen riddled the bodies with bullets before fleeing the scene. "Given the characteristics of this act, the killings appear to be linked to drug cartels and it is something we are seeing more of in the area," said a spokesman for the attorney ...

War in Hazleton By Kevin DeAnna on Thursday, 01 April 2010 Mayor Lou Barletta, the rare elected official who actually seems to care about his constituents and his country, is speaking out about a class called War in Hazleton at Temple University. Professor Lori Zott has formed a multi-disciplinary class which looks at the immigration battle in Hazleton, Pennsylvania -- from a multicultural perspective of course. Judging from the syllabus, the class hammers away with the usual brain dead narratives but includes some heretical ideas at the end, for those who want to hear it. The class syllabus begins with the inevitable poem from Emma Lazarus, which unfortunately for ...

A federal judges ruling in a case challenging the Bush administrations infamous and illegal domestic surveillance case will likely demonstrate, once again, the hypocrisy and deceit of Barack Obama and his merry band of liberal statists. When Obama was a presidential candidate, he emphasized to American voters that President Bushs warrantless surveillance of Americans was unconstitutional and illegal. But once Obama got into office, he silenced his tune, especially in lawsuits that were brought by victims of this criminal action. Like Bushs Justice Department, Obamas Justice Department took the position that peoples lawsuits should be ...
