TxDOT official: Plans for massive TTC will likely change

In what may have been the first hint of victory for opponents of the Trans Texas Corridor, a high-ranking Texas Department of Transportation official said Thursday he regretted his agency's communication failures and said one proposed version of the corridor, a 10-lane super highway with rail and utility pathways, will "probably not" be built in East Texas, based on the overwhelming resistance to the idea expressed at public hearings on the project this month. Phillip Russell, assistant executive director for innovative project development at TxDOT, was the keynote speaker at the Lone Star Legislative Summit at SFA Thursday, where he told listeners that "a lot of people ...

Ivory Coast's 'big-bottom' craze (PC ALERT!)

A national dance craze in Ivory Coast has spawned a black market in treatments claiming to increase one's bottom size. Poster Comment:A national dance craze in Ivory Coast has spawned a black market in treatments claiming to increase one's bottom size. The dance in question has been inspired by DJ Mix and DJ Eloh's hit song Bobaraba, which means "big bottom" in the local Djoula language. When it plays you can be guaranteed that the dance floor will be packed with people shaking their derrieres. Even Ivorian footballers have adopted the moves and could be seen wiggling their bottoms in a curious on-pitch dance after each goal scored during the just-ended ...

Muslim Inbreeding (My Title)

Many prominent neoconservatives are calling on America not only to conquer Iraq (and perhaps more Muslim nations after that), but also to rebuild Iraqi society in order to jumpstart the democratization of the Middle East. Yet, Americans know so little about the Middle East that few of us are even aware of one of one of the building blocks of Arab Muslim cultures -- cousin marriage. Not surprisingly, we are almost utterly innocent of any understanding of how much the high degree of inbreeding in Iraq could interfere with our nation building ambitions. In Iraq, as in much of the region, nearly half of all married couples are first or second cousins to each other. A 1986 study of 4,500 ...

Border Security and Immigration Reform

“I don’t think the problem of illegal immigration will ever be solved until we have a healthy, thriving economy.” The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. This is my six point plan: Click for Full Text!

When Obama, Clinton and McCain Decisively Agreed By Terence Jeffrey One thing Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain all have in common is that they voted to give retroactive Social Security benefits to illegal aliens who committed document fraud. Indeed, McCain voted for it before he was against it. On May 18, 2006, when the immigration reform proposal advocated by McCain was on the Senate floor, Sen. John Ensign of Nevada offered an amendment. As written, the bill immunized illegal aliens from being prosecuted for document fraud, including using a stolen, or a fake, Social Security number. Additionally, the bill did not stop the current practice of allowing aliens who are ...

State of Maine's become a haven for illegal aliens

Editor's note: The writer is a resident of Eliot, Maine, and a GOP candidate in Maine's 1st Congressional District. One of the great travesties of the Bush administration has been an unwillingness to deal with the crisis of illegal immigration. One of the greatest travesties of the Baldacci administration is an executive order issued in 2004 that has transformed our state into a sanctuary for illegal aliens. The citizens of Maine and the Legislature were never asked if they approved of such an appalling decision. The governor took it upon himself to devise a plan to welcome illegals to Maine and to force the taxpayers to support them with the vast array of welfare benefits that ...

U.S. Hispanic population to triple by 2050 The U.S. population will soar to 438 million by 2050 and the Hispanic population will triple, according to projections released Monday by the Pew Research Center. The latest projections by the non-partisan research group are higher than government estimates to date and paint a portrait of an America dramatically different from today's. The projected growth in the U.S. population — 303 million today — will be driven primarily by immigration among all groups except the elderly. Poster Comment:Why would whites celebrate this?

I've been down with the wall for years and years and years. No more! I can't trust these people to not actually BUILD ANOTHER BERLIN WALL! Honorable men would keep the invaders out. McNuts would build it, give daisy-chain Amnesty to TENS upon TENS OF MILLIONS MORE (than the 20,000,000+ already here) and then THROW US ALL IN DETENTION CAMPS. Some will want to flee with families, rightfully so. NO WALLS! It's already over now, forget the damned border security. Too late!

Kidnappings of U.S. citizens on rise. Sophisticated Mexican groups plot abductions

Organized, well-financed and violent Mexican kidnapping cells are targeting a growing number of U.S. citizens visiting communities popular with San Diegans and other California residents. Last year, at least 26 San Diego County residents were kidnapped and held for ransom in Tijuana, Rosarito Beach or Ensenada, local FBI agents overseeing the cases said yesterday. In 2006, at least 11 county residents had been kidnapped in the three communities. “Some of the 26 were recovered, some were hurt and some were killed,” said agent Alex Horan, who directs the FBI's violent-crime squad in San Diego. “It's not a pleasant experience. Victims have reported beatings, torture ...

Trying to corner Clinton, Obama, Romney and McCain into addressing America's immigration invasion proves harder than arm wrestling an octopus! Trying to get our apathetic American public to force definitive answers from this presidential quartet proves tougher than bringing an Egyptian mummy back to life. Once the full impact of adding endless millions of people hits, the devastation to American society will make Hurricane Katrina look like a Sunday picnic. Immigrants hit hard by U.S. slowdown and subprime crisis

2 hours, 51 minutes ago WASHINGTON (Reuters) - As an economic slowdown and the subprime mortgage crisis deepen across the United States, Hispanic immigrants are increasingly in danger of losing their jobs and their homes. Both legal and illegal immigrants joined Americans in buying homes they could barely afford when the market spiraled upward and many have been caught with mortgages higher than the value of their homes as prices have slumped in the past year. Just as subprime mortgage payments rose and house prices fell, the economy's slowdown has hurt the construction sector, which employs large numbers of Hispanics and other immigrants. Unemployment among Hispanics in the ...

Chicago's Adalberto United Methodist Church is helping illegal immigrant Flor Crisostomo defy a federal deportation order by giving her "sanctuary" inside the church. Adalberto was earlier in the news for giving another illegal alien, Elvira Arellano, "sanctuary" for a year. Arellano was eventually caught and shipped back to Mexico after leaving the church and visiting Los Angeles as part of a "consciousness raising" exercise to focus attention on the "plight" of illegal aliens. Flor Crisostomo is also apparently being used to bring attention to the "injustice" of US immigration law. Her case will probably be the focus of various law ...

Ulster, one of the four traditional “kingdoms” of Ireland, was only 20 miles across the channel from Scotland. In 1603, a laird of northern Ayrshire (Scotland), Hugh Montgomery, learned that Con O’Niell was in prison. O’Niell was a chieftain of large properties in County Down, and County Antrium. Montgomery proposed to O’Niell a bargain. He could effect the escape and pardon of O’Niell, if in return, O’Niell would grant him half of his lands. The escape and pardon was achieved, but the granting of lands to Montgomery, was denied by King James. Montgomery sought the aid of another Ayrshire laird, James Hamilton, who had great influence with the King. With a ...

An illegal immigrant from Mexico has won $30,000 in a settlement with his former Rhode Island employer after accidentally injuring himself with a chain saw. Edgar Velasquez, who worked for a tree service company in Warwick, was chopping tree branches on March 31, 2006, when he accidentally slashed his face, slicing his nose, eyelid and forehead. He underwent surgery but still has trouble closing his left eye. Velasquez sued William Gorman Jr., his former boss and owner of Billy G's Tree Care, seeking compensation for his injuries. He also accused Gorman of notifying immigration authorities that he was here illegally to block him from pursuing his case. Immigration agents arrested ...

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!!! It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV. Her point: Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "No! I like it here. It's better than ...

Huckabee retreats on birthright citizenship

Mike Huckabee yesterday contradicted his own top immigration surrogate, announcing he will not support a constitutional amendment to end birthright citizenship for children born in the United States to illegal aliens. It was a stark reversal after The Washington Times reported that James Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, said Mr. Huckabee promised to pursue an amendment to the Constitution. In an article in yesterday's editions, Mr. Huckabee's spokeswoman did not challenge the former Arkansas governor's statements to Mr. Gilchrist and said the two men shared the same goals on immigration. But by yesterday afternoon, Mr. Huckabee had backed away from that position. ...
