Mexicans go to Ariz. for medical help By Dennis Wagner, USA TODAY BISBEE, Ariz. ? Antonio Valenzuela Gomez, a retired factory worker who boasts 49 grandchildren, lifts his shirt to show the giant scar where American doctors cut into his chest a year ago. Gomez, 79, was at his house in the dusty Mexican border town of Naco near here when his heart began to fail. There is no hospital in that part of Mexico, so family members loaded Gomez in a car and drove him a short distance to the U.S. checkpoint. An ambulance arrived from the Arizona side and rushed Gomez 7 miles to Copper Queen Community Hospital here. Emergency room workers stabilized him and sent him 80 miles north to Tucson ...

Muslim girls unveil their fears By Elizabeth C Jones Director of The Headmaster and the Headscarves Although France has banned religious symbols from schools, some of the country's 1,200 veiled Muslim schoolgirls are still searching for a compromise. "French education", declares a trim man behind a big desk, "aims to allow each person, irrespective of their religion or their community, the chance to start on an equal footing and receive the same education." This impassioned defence of French secularism comes from Raymond Scieux, headmaster of Lycee Eugene Delacroix in Drancy, a suburb northeast of Paris. For much of last year, Scieux and other French ...

(Baldwin Park, CA) May 14, 2005 will go down as another day that Americans had an opportunity to see the future of the nation and the vicious undercurrents of hate and separatism brewing in the ranks of illegal aliens in the South Western United States. Unfortunately, biases in the media once again have asserted their filters keeping most of America in the dark. Those that have had the opportunity to see the local media coverage of the SaveOurState.org protest of the Baldwin Park monument will still find themselves lacking accurate and complete information. Americans are increasingly turning to black market news sources to learn of the massive high school riots , attacks on law enforcement ...

An Internet company will force one of its Web site clients to stop encouraging harassment of the Minutemen project that cracks down on illegal immigrants along the Arizona border. The Scottsdale-based Go Daddy Group said the Swarmtheminuteman.com site, which has been on the Web for less than one week, could face being shut down unless it complies. Swarmtheminutemen.com reportedly is encouraging people to go into the desert border areas to blast their radios or bang pots and pans together in an effort to confuse and harass Minutemen volunteers. The Web site also prompts site visitors to engage in activities such as sending repetitive anonymous e-mails and fax messages to the Minutemen, ...

Web site vexing to Minutemen By Victor Allen, Tribune A Scottsdale-based Internet company said Monday it will force one of its Web site clients to stop encouraging harassment of the Minuteman Project or face being shut down. Swarmtheminutemen.com is encouraging people to go into the desert border areas to blast their radios or bang pots and pans together in an effort to confuse and harass Minutemen volunteers. The Web site also prompts site visitors to engage in activities such as sending repetitive anonymous e-mails and fax messages to the Minutemen, and even come up with other ideas to disrupt the project. The Minutemen, a volunteer program founded by Chris Simcox of Tombstone, has ...

Low Interest Loans for Illegal Aliens WKOW-TV May 16, 2005 Wisconsin's housing authority, or WHEDA, is the first state in the nation to implement a program offering low interest loans to illegal aliens, or "undocumented workers". Now some Madison alders want the City to implement a similar program. Madison's program would allow the approved applicants to get a low interest loan for up to 95% of the home cost. Other low income residents can get 100% of the cost of a home financed with a Community Development Block Grant through the city. "In a very real way with the modern economy, immigrants are here to stay and I think we ought to be supporting then in trying to live good ...

A PETITE, middle-aged woman was the "Mother of All Snakeheads" who brought thousands of Chinese illegally into America on hellish ships and used violent gangs to hold them hostage, a US prosecutor said today. Human trafficking by Cheng Chui Ping, 56, also known as "Sister Ping", had been linked to major shipments of illegal immigrants in which more than 20 people died, Assistant US Attorney David Burns said at the woman's federal trial in Manhattan. Ms Cheng is also accused of laundering hundreds of thousands of dollars from the smuggling operations and using some of the money to finance the 1992 voyage of a rickety freighter, Golden Venture, which carried 300 illegal ...

President said Mexicans take U.S. jobs ‘not even blacks want to do’ MEXICO CITY - President Vicente Fox came under criticism Saturday after saying Mexicans were willing to take jobs “that not even blacks want to do in the United States.” Fox’s remark Friday came a day after Mexico announced it would formally protest recent U.S. immigration reforms, including the decision to extend walls along the border and make it harder for illegal migrants to get driver’s licenses. “There’s no doubt that the Mexican men and women — full of dignity, willpower and a capacity for work — are doing the work that not even blacks want to do in the United ...

Mexican President Vicente Fox called recent U.S. measures to stem illegal immigration a step back for bilateral relations on Friday and said Mexican migrants do jobs "that not even blacks want to do." In comments likely to raise the temperature of the immigration debate, Fox defended the role of undocumented Mexican workers in the United States to a group of Texas business people meeting in Mexico. "There is no doubt that Mexicans, filled with dignity, willingness and ability to work are doing jobs that not even blacks want to do there in the United States," he said in a speech broadcast in part on local radio and reported on newspaper web sites. Fox said recent, ...

An immigrant advocacy group asked Hispanics to boycott businesses and to stay home from work yesterday to protest legislation by Arizona lawmakers targeting illegal aliens, and said it was a trial run for a full-scale, three-day economic protest planned for July. "This is a test so people can see and feel the power we have and the actual stranglehold we have on the economy of this state," Elias Bermudez, executive director of Centro de Ayuda, an immigrant advocacy group in Phoenix, told reporters this week. "We contribute to the greatness of this state and we should not be pushed around like we are." Although advertised extensively on Spanish-language radio and ...

Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper headed the list of dignitaries who attended the Mass. There are ways to fight backby Francis Playfair In November last year, as the rest of the nation was electing the candidate that they considered the lesser of two evils, in the presidential elections, the good folk of Arizona were casting their votes over proposition 200. There are planned legal objections to the proposition, but if the people of Arizona can get this past a federal judge then this will be a small step in the right direction. However, the question is why do they need proposition 200? What is happening along the border, that is making the people of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California feel like a people under siege? To understand this people have to realize that for the ...

MEXICO CITY - (KRT) - A top Mexican official said Thursday that "there is no wall that can stop" the flow of illegal workers from Mexico to the United States and that money spent on such measures would be better used to "regularize" immigration and fight terrorism. Interior Minister Santiago Creel, a likely presidential candidate next year, said U.S. attempts to halt migration over the last 100 years have failed. And so will new measures approved by the U.S. Senate this week and signed into law by President Bush, he said. "We see this as bad because building walls in no way contributes to the construction of a good neighborhood," Creel said during a news ...

Migrant bills sent to governor [of AZ] Elvia Díaz The Arizona Republic May. 13, 2005 12:00 AM The Legislature on Thursday sent Gov. Janet Napolitano two bills targeting undocumented immigrants, amid protests from Democrats who thought employers should be penalized, too. The measures, House Bills 2592 and 2030, will move on to Napolitano without the employer sanctions provisions. Democrats had argued that jobs, not public handouts, entice illegal border crossers to Arizona. Also on Thursday, the Legislature agreed to let voters decide whether to deny bail to undocumented immigrants who commit a serious crime. The issue will go on the November 2006 ballot. Under HB 2030, ...

As Billboard Gate winds down and the Liberman Broadcast group completes the removal of offensive and divisive language from 75 billboards, a new scandal is emerging over a public works monument in Baldwin Park, CA. The stone monument, created by artist Judith Baca, contains the inscriptions "This land was Mexican once, was Indian always, and is and will be again" and "It was better before THEY came". These inscriptions are insulting to Americans because they reflect the opinions of the Aztlan Reconquista separatist movement within the rapidly expanding illegal alien community in America. Don't Burn My Flag by David A. Yeagley Originally published at FrontPageMagazine.com | March 23, 2001 "F—K YOU, this is still Mexico," says a popular LED-illuminated sign appearing in car windows on California highways. The sign refers to the fact that much of the American Southwest belonged to Mexico until the U.S. siezed it in 1846. Now some Mexicans want the land back. As a Comanche Indian, I have a problem with that. We Comanches pushed the Spaniards out of Texas and eastern New Mexico over 200 years ago. Neither Spaniards nor Mexicans ever managed to return. Comanches used to ride across the Rio Grande every fall to attack Mexican villages, killing, scalping, ...

Los Angeles -- A controversial billboard campaign in Los Angeles continued to make headlines this week as anger rapidly turned to confusion and hysteria. The billboard, advertising a Spanish Language television station, originally made news by enraging many Americans with its aggressive Mexican Nationalist message --declaring that Los Angeles was no longer part of the United States, but was instead a Mexican city once again. Below the banner message in which “Los Angeles, CA” had been crossed out and changed in blaring red type to read “Los Angeles, MEXICO,” the billboard pronounced in Spanish “Your City. Your Team.” Now Gringo anger is the least of the ...

Fox didn't give details of Mexico's plan, but officials in his administration have raised the possibility of taking the case to the United Nations or other international organizations. "We think it is useless to pursue walls, barriers, the use of force and violence," he said. The new provisions require states to verify ...

WASHINGTON - Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate will introduce legislation today that could grant legal status to an estimated 10 million to 12 million illegal immigrants now in the United States. Illegals get preferential treatment Thursday, May 12, 2005 It is frustrating and disheartening to read this article about illegal immigrants ("Undocumented and under siege," May 10). I came to this country from the Philippines as a legal immigrant in 1984. I followed the U.S. immigration laws and therefore was admitted to this country in a legal way. My brothers and sisters have been on the waiting list for the last 13 years and their visas are still in limbo. My dad passed away without fulfilling his only wish, which was to see my siblings visit America. Why is it that there is preferential treatment for the illegals? Why is it that other illegal acts in this country are ...

Police-immigration bill passes Gives officers deport power Elvia Díaz The Arizona Republic May. 11, 2005 12:00 AM Local police officers would have the power to arrest and effectively deport people living in Arizona illegally under a bill passed by the Legislature on Tuesday and sent to Gov. Janet Napolitano. Currently, such powers are restricted to federal agents. Senate Bill 1306, approved by the Senate by a vote of 16-11, is based on the belief that the state has too few federal agents to deal with an increase in the population of undocumented immigrants. Opponents have said the police officers do not want the added authority and that the deportation of undocumented workers is ...
