Punishing illegal immigrants

Punishing illegal immigrants These workers, who pay taxes, shouldn't qualify to vote, but their children should be able to pay in-state tuition Tuesday, April 12, 2005 We Oregonians share our state with thousands of illegal immigrants. How many, no one knows for sure, but it's estimated that half or more of the 1.6 million agricultural workers in the United States are here illegally. Oregon is heavily dependent on them, too. This "off the books" demographic is deeply distressing to many Oregonians. They wonder, rightfully, how much we should accommodate this new reality and how much we should actively discourage it. In this session, the Oregon Legislature can set some ...

Minuteman Project: Day Nine [on-scene report]

Day Nine and illegal alien apprehensions are still way down. Locally, traffic has shifted away from the Naco Line, moving eastwards towards Douglas and westward to the Huachuca Mountains and beyond to the San Rafael Valley. There are also reports of more traffic heading towards Nogales and the Tohono O’odham reservation. There were a couple of good sized groups passing through the Huachucas overnight. Some were nabbed by the Border Patrol immediately after detection, with stragglers appearing throughout the day. Most were reportedly from Michoacan, west of Mexico City. One alien was seen to toss a cell phone into the brush and it was later recovered; the call history may be ...

Minutemen need to turn their SUVs toward D.C.

I've got news for the Minutemen tracking illegal aliens in southern Arizona. If you really want to control illegal immigration, you are in the wrong place. The place to go is Washington. And the people to confront are President Bush and Congress, not the Mexican peasants sneaking into the United States. The Bush administration is using you. The Minutemen are volunteers who patrol the border in search of illegal immigrants. Their work is utterly futile. Everyone knows that on the first or 10th try, the illegal alien will get past the circus at the border. From there, it's on to Los Angeles, Chicago or Anytown USA, where he's home free. Illegal immigrants come for jobs. Were it not for ...

Minute Man News

Minute Man News – Commentary by Jim Dean Dear legal Americans, It looks like the ACLU and Mexican gangs have not had much success catching the armed Minutemen vigilantes taking the law into their own hands. So they are having to reach a bit to find something. Below you will read how a free T-shirt, a bowl of milk and cereal and $20 was spun into a forcible detention incident claim. This one will go down in history. Even the sheriff's office joined in by making a foolish statement. News videos have been made for years of illegals coming over the border in droves. I am not aware of law enforcement ever claiming they were promoting a 'circus.' So what we have here is what we see so ...

Uh oh! We're out of humans Abundant claims of labor shortages A Washington DC construction supervisor told Jerry Kammer of the San Diego Tribune that since the surge in illegal immigration from Central America to the Washington, DC area began roughly 20 years ago, the pay for installing 4 x 8 panels has dropped from $4.50 per panel to $3.00. After adjusting for inflation, that's a stunning 60% decline in wages. And over the last 20 years, while these already low-end jobs were in their 60% freefall, what did we hear from the Wall Street Journal, Alan Greenspan, and the immigration lawyer industry? Why, America has been in the grip of a desperate labor shortage this whole time! With the ...

For Wanda Weatherford it's a battle for the American middle class. That's why the 70-year-old Littleton grandmother drove to the Mexican border last Friday and joined the Minuteman Project. "Young people are so busy working. As a senior citizen I need to pick up the ball and run with it," said Weatherford on Thursday. She returned home Sunday. The Minuteman Project's volunteers will spend a day to several weeks through April on a 23-mile stretch of desert to stop immigrants from crossing into the U.S. Working round the clock in shifts, the volunteers have been alerting the U.S. Border Patrol when they see people moving toward the border from Mexico. "I've heard of people ...

Immigration clampdown after fraud revealed

mmigration Minister Paul Swain is signalling changes in the way immigration fraud is handled, following revelations fake degrees, sham marriages and bogus job offers are being sold to Asian migrants. A Herald on Sunday special investigation last week uncovered widespread academic and immigration fraud, the details of which have now been passed on to police. Mr Swain is promising tougher laws, more investigators and a new "immigration czar". A two-week investigation found the Chinese community was being offered an easy way into New Zealand through buying university degrees, marriages and fake "jobs". The sellers were found through advertisements in Chinese language ...

Massive "End the Occupation" Protest in Baghdad Dwarfs the "Saddam Toppled" rally: Photos Chanting "No! No to terrorism!" and "No! No to America," thousands of supporters of a radical Shiite cleric who once led uprisings against U.S. troops called Saturday for American forces to withdraw from Iraq, staging a massive protest at the same square where - two years ago to the day - protesters pulled down a towering statue of ousted Saddam Hussein. The protest reflected frustration with the U.S. government, which is slowly handing security responsibilities to Iraqi forces two years after taking control of Baghdad. U.S. officials have said they won’t ...

Condi Rice Betrays Citizens Of America

If you enjoyed an audience with Condi Rice, what would you say to her? How would you rip into her for berating American citizens as 'vigilantes' if you lived in Southern California where illegal aliens number three million? An average American citizen, Liz Demarco wrote Condi Rice a letter: Ms. Rice, your statements in Mexico on March 10, 2005 have come to my attention. You visit Mexico representing the United States, and, to all intents and purposes, you betrayed American citizens on behalf of Mexico. So many incidents occurred that have been recorded that my difficulty in writing this letter has been where to begin. American citizens will be impressed that you have mastered ...

Border Watch Volunteer Dismissed After Having Photo Taken With Migrant By ARTHUR H. ROTSTEIN Associated Press Writer The Associated Press TUCSON, Ariz. Apr 8, 2005 — A civilian border watch group dismissed a volunteer who had an illegal immigrant pose for a mocking photograph. Organizers of the Minuteman Project said that although authorities determined the man had not illegally detained the immigrant, he still violated the group's procedures. They added that the volunteer had given the immigrant $20 and fed him during Wednesday's encounter. "The volunteer's actions were admirable, justified and undeniably humane," Chris Simcox, a project official, said in a news release, ...

Immigration Not Worried About Deliveryman By TOM HAYS Associated Press Writer NEW YORK (AP) -- Front-page headlines about a deliveryman who spent three days trapped in an elevator drew attention to the China-born worker's immigration status, but federal officials suggested he had little to fear. "Getting locked in an elevator for three days doesn't make you immune to removal proceedings," said Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Marc A. Raimondi. But top priority, he said, goes to aliens "who pose the greatest threat to public safety and homeland security." Ming Kuang Chen's ordeal ended with his rescue early Tuesday, 80 hours after he vanished while ...

Border Patrol agents accused in drug scheme Associated Press LAREDO ? A senior U.S. Border Patrol agent and his brother were charged with accepting about $1.5 million in drug dealers' bribes for allowing marijuana and cocaine through a checkpoint, federal prosecutors said today. Senior Border Patrol agent Juan Alvarez, 35, and his brother Jose Guadalupe Alvarez, 38, both of Laredo, were named in a 12-count indictment unsealed Thursday. The indictment details extortion, bribery, drug conspiracy and firearm charges against the brothers. (AP) -- Authorities determined Thursday three volunteers involved in a civilian project to watch the border and report illegal crossers had an illegal immigrant pose for a flippant photograph but did not hold him against his will. The Mexican man had told sheriff's deputies he was detained and forced to pose for a picture holding a T-shirt with a mocking slogan. Immigrant-tuition bill moves forward April 7, 2005 The Senate Education Committee on Wednesday approved a bill that would extend in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants. The Oregon University System supports Senate Bill 769, saying that it would draw students who normally couldn't afford college. It would apply only to Oregon high school graduates who intend to apply for citizenship. An analysis by the Legislative Fiscal Office found that it would cost the state $460,000 in the next two years. The committee voted 3-1 to pass the bill to the budget committee. Sen. Charles Starr, a Hillsboro Republican, said earlier in the day that he would have voted against it years ago but now has ...

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA, Ariz. -- Marines preparing for combat in Iraq or Afghanistan have lost significant amounts of training time because undocumented immigrants from Mexico have constantly wandered onto a bombing test range in Arizona, according to the commander of this base along the border. ADVERTISEMENT Virtually every Marine squadron headed to Iraq or Afghanistan receives combat training at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, which for nearly 40 miles touches the US-Mexico border in the southwestern corner of Arizona. The Border Patrol's focus in recent years on tightening the border in the eastern part of the state, where volunteer citizens this month have established ...

AGUA PRIETA, Mexico The number of Mexican migrants trying to sneak into the U.S.across the Arizona border has dropped by half since hundreds of U.S. civilians began guarding the area earlier this week, say Mexican officials assigned to protect their citizens. But that does not mean that the migrants have given up. Most remain determined to enter the United States and say they will find other places to cross. Before volunteers with the Minuteman Project began patrolling, Mexican officials encountered at least 400 undocumented migrants daily. On Monday, the second day that Minutemen were present, they spotted 198, said Bertha de la Rosa of Grupo Beta, a group sponsored by the Mexican ...

Border Militia Divides Arizona Residents Wed Apr 6, 1:02 PM ET By Tim Gaynor BISBEE, Arizona (Reuters) - A right-wing militia patrolling the Mexican border to catch illegal immigrants is pitting some residents in favor of old-style frontier justice against critics who say the militiamen are the real threat. Between 300 and 400 "Minuteman" project volunteers, some of them armed, have come to Arizona to stake out a 23-mile section of the border throughout April. They say it is a peaceful political protest, although some are armed with pistols, and a number of local residents have joined the patrols or turned out to support them. Others, however, have held protests and watch ...

Why Illegal Immigrants Are Welcomed By The U.S. Government (letter from a friend)

I just discovered why the U.S. Government will not only ALLOW illegal aliens to come into this country unhindered, but they actually encourage it and there is nothing We The People will ever be able to do to stop it. It also explains why the folks with Ranch Rescue and other groups trying to protect our borders will continue to be harassed both by haughty, arrogant illegals as well as US government officials. Some of you are aware of what happened to my 22 year marriage because of a 23 year-old Bulgarian immigrant woman whose green card was about to expire, and who was desperate to get married to an American who would give her citizenship and support her in the style to which she had ...

More than 20,000 military personnel have become U.S. citizens since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, according to the Pentagon. Another 5,000 have applications pending for citizenship, with that process being expedited for military members, shortening the wait from about nine months to 60 days. There are still about 30,000 active duty and 11,000 Guard and Reserve personnel in the military who are not U.S. citizens, according to Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel David Chu. He testified Tuesday before the Senate Armed Services Committee on personnel issues facing the military.

NACO, Ariz. – Gonzo rocker Ted Nugent rolled into this border town in Cochise County Saturday night to assume command of the Minuteman Project, a citizen’s army dedicated to “taking back” the 370-mile border that separates Arizona and Mexico. Sporting a wide band of black Kiwi shoe polish under each eye and a “Greasers Go Home” T-shirt, Field Commander Nugent delivered an impassioned address to the assembled troops. “If those dirt bags in Washington don’t have the guts to keep America safe for Americans, we do,” he screamed. “We’re not going to let a swarm of illiterate beaners invade this country and take food out of our ...

RICE, BUSH AND CONGRESS VS. MINUTE MAN PATRIOTS

While in Mexico kissing and polishing Fox’s boots recently, Secretary of State Condi Rice blurted out that she does not support lawless vigilantes patrolling America’s vulnerable southern border. Never mind 4,000 illegal aliens and drug smugglers cross nightly over the Arizona sector alone--according to Time Magazine! She felt the Minute Man Project represented lawless behavior on the part of American citizens. What is a vigilante? The dictionary defines one as watchful, sensible, aware, alert, to keep watch and to stay alert in times of danger. When it comes to danger, the Christian Science Monitor presented disturbing news, March 22, 2005, “Concern is growing at the top ...
