Don't Burn My Flag by David A. Yeagley Originally published at FrontPageMagazine.com | March 23, 2001 "F—K YOU, this is still Mexico," says a popular LED-illuminated sign appearing in car windows on California highways. The sign refers to the fact that much of the American Southwest belonged to Mexico until the U.S. siezed it in 1846. Now some Mexicans want the land back. As a Comanche Indian, I have a problem with that. We Comanches pushed the Spaniards out of Texas and eastern New Mexico over 200 years ago. Neither Spaniards nor Mexicans ever managed to return. Comanches used to ride across the Rio Grande every fall to attack Mexican villages, killing, scalping, ...

Los Angeles -- A controversial billboard campaign in Los Angeles continued to make headlines this week as anger rapidly turned to confusion and hysteria. The billboard, advertising a Spanish Language television station, originally made news by enraging many Americans with its aggressive Mexican Nationalist message --declaring that Los Angeles was no longer part of the United States, but was instead a Mexican city once again. Below the banner message in which “Los Angeles, CA” had been crossed out and changed in blaring red type to read “Los Angeles, MEXICO,” the billboard pronounced in Spanish “Your City. Your Team.” Now Gringo anger is the least of the ...

Mexico Says It Will Protest New U.S. Immigration Laws By Traci Carl Associated Press Writer Published: May 12, 2005 MEXICO CITY (AP) - President Vicente Fox said Thursday his government will formally protest recent U.S. immigration reforms, including the decision to extend walls along the border and make it harder for illegal migrants to get driver's licenses. Fox didn't give details of Mexico's plan, but officials in his administration have raised the possibility of taking the case to the United Nations or other international organizations. "We think it is useless to pursue walls, barriers, the use of force and violence," he said. The new provisions require states to verify ...

Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., are working together on an immigration plan. WASHINGTON - Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate will introduce legislation today that could grant legal status to an estimated 10 million to 12 million illegal immigrants now in the United States. The bills, which would dwarf previous programs to provide legal status to foreign workers, would give illegal immigrants work permits and the opportunity to apply for permanent residence and eventually citizenship once they pay a ...

Illegals get preferential treatment (letters to editor)

Illegals get preferential treatment Thursday, May 12, 2005 It is frustrating and disheartening to read this article about illegal immigrants ("Undocumented and under siege," May 10). I came to this country from the Philippines as a legal immigrant in 1984. I followed the U.S. immigration laws and therefore was admitted to this country in a legal way. My brothers and sisters have been on the waiting list for the last 13 years and their visas are still in limbo. My dad passed away without fulfilling his only wish, which was to see my siblings visit America. Why is it that there is preferential treatment for the illegals? Why is it that other illegal acts in this country are ...

Police-immigration bill passes Gives officers deport power Elvia Díaz The Arizona Republic May. 11, 2005 12:00 AM Local police officers would have the power to arrest and effectively deport people living in Arizona illegally under a bill passed by the Legislature on Tuesday and sent to Gov. Janet Napolitano. Currently, such powers are restricted to federal agents. Senate Bill 1306, approved by the Senate by a vote of 16-11, is based on the belief that the state has too few federal agents to deal with an increase in the population of undocumented immigrants. Opponents have said the police officers do not want the added authority and that the deportation of undocumented workers is ...

Court rejects DMV practice of taking illegal immigrants' licenses By MICHAEL GORMLEY Associated Press Writer May 10, 2005, 12:35 PM EDT ALBANY, N.Y. -- A state judge on Tuesday ruled the state Department of Motor Vehicles can't revoke the driver's licenses of as many as 252,000 illegal immigrants because they haven't secured Social Security cards. The DMV "may not use immigration status" to deny licenses, according to the decision by state Supreme Court Justice Karen Smith. "Plaintiffs have faced and will continue to face serious injuries if these practices continue." The court said DMV lacks the authority to carry out the practice that could only be enacted by a ...

State English rule is vetoed Napolitano kills bid for official language Elvia Díaz The Arizona Republic May. 10, 2005 12:00 AM The movement to make English Arizona's official language came to a screeching halt Monday. Gov. Janet Napolitano vetoed Senate Bill 1167, which would have required state and local government workers to carry out their official duties in English. Also Monday, lawmakers said they almost certainly will not pursue a resolution to put an official-English referendum on the November 2006 ballot at least this year. The resolution has been stalled in the Senate for more than a month. Two other key immigration measures did appear headed for passage by the ...

Undocumented, under siege Tuesday, May 10, 2005 MICHELLE COLE SALEM -- The Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the nation's renewed interest in border security have caused the debate over immigration to spill out of Congress and into Oregon's Capitol. Although immigration policy is largely a federal responsibility, the Legislature is considering several bills intended to crack down on people who are in the country illegally. They include making it tougher for immigrants -- some say even legal ones -- to get a driver's license, register to vote or secure a pay raise. Oregon lawmakers are "much more open" to talking about immigration issues than they used to be, says Jim Ludwick of ...

U.S. to Pay Hospitals for Illegals' Care By KEVIN FREKING, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - Health care providers can charge the government for emergency care provided to illegal aliens beginning Tuesday. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued final guidance Monday that sets up a system for reimbursement. Lawmakers set aside $1 billion over four years for the program, created by Medicare legislation passed in 2003. For hospitals in border states, the additional money can mean the difference between running a profitable business or an unprofitable one, said Don May, vice president of policy for the American Hospital Association. The great on-going debate at VDARE.COM is: "Which of the two—legal or illegal immigration—does more to destroy the fabric of America?" Legal immigration often takes a back seat to illegal immigration in terms of how much time we spend writing and talking about it. But on any given day—like today— I’ll tell you that legal immigration is the bigger of the two threats. The immigration reform movement has made enormous strides in raising America’s awareness about the destructive consequences of illegal immigration. You can feel the progress we’ve made the grassroots level. And you can see how influential we’ve been in Congress by ...

Rise in Gangs Creates Bitter Debate By DAVID CRARY AP National Writer NEW YORK (AP) -- The rapid spread of vicious street gangs such as MS-13 is causing alarm in cities and suburbs nationwide, igniting bitter debate about how best to combat the threat and inspiring a comprehensive anti-gang bill in Congress. The measure is depicted by supporters as the only effective way to counterattack gang violence, and assailed by critics as an overreaction that could clog both federal courts and adult prisons with youthful offenders, most of them minorities. Sponsored by Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., the bill moved swiftly through the House Judiciary Committee last month and is scheduled for a House ...

Totalization Sell-Out: What You Don't Know will Cost You While most Americans were riveted to the hotly contested Democratic National Primary in June of 2004 and the national media speculated on Howard Dean or John Kerry, the Commissioner of the U.S. Social Security Administration (Jo Anne Barnhart) and her Mexican counterpart concluded the U.S.-Mexican Totalization Agreement. This agreement had to be in place prior to the administration?s second term and it?s all-out offensive for Social Security reform. What would be the potential effects of this totalization agreement with Mexico, should the president choose to move it forward? Unauthorized illegal aliens working in the U.S. could ...

He had tripped while trimming a hedge and had slipped beneath the crystal-blue waters of the swimming pool. Several minutes passed before a 20-year-old who lived at the home, according to a Phoenix police report, spotted a "shadow" in the deep end. That shadow was Miguel. He was 24. He had come to this country illegally about a year ago from a village in Guatemala, near the city of Coban. He left behind a wife and three children. But when he died, no one knew any of that. He was a John Doe, or a Jose ...

"Citizenaurgatory, or Innocent American citizens Trapped Between Heaven and Hell in the U.S." (thank you Mr. Dahl!) I wish to respond to Bill Dahl, a contributing columnist for the site Hispanic Vista. In part, Mr. Dahl states the following; "For these Latinos, the hope for citizenship in the U.S. is heaven. Visions of better jobs, education, healthcare, housing, protections against discrimination, racism, the ability to be all one can be, to contribute to the United States economy and culture on an equal footing - these are the elements of their hope. The country they departed was, at least, economically oppressive. Hope led them here. Hope keeps them here. They hope that we ...

The specific ass in question is Congressman Chris "give 'em all amnesty and keep 'em coming" Cannon of Utah, who recently said of America's patriot Congressman Tom Tancredo: "I think he ought to consider his views and decide whether they're consistent with the Republican Party." Where did Cannon deliver this rendition? It was a joint panel with Congressman Luis Gutierrez moderated by no less a Jorge Boosh-groupie ...
