Ellis Island and Other Myths

We have often been told that “America was built by immigrants.” Certainly our nation has been one of the most welcoming nations in the world if not the most welcoming nation. Anually, the United States grants lawful immigrant status to more than 1.1 million aliens–immediately placing them on the pathway to United States citizenship. The issue is that those who advocate open borders and unlimited immigration have seized on that phrase about America having been built by immigrants as a way of persuading as many people as possible- among them our fellow Americans as well as our leaders, that the American Dream was the result of this massive influx of immigrants. If you accept ...

The US has deported about 400,000 immigrants in 2011, marking the highest number of such expulsions since the formation of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) eight years ago. Over 50 percent of the 396,906 deportations, from October 2010 through September 2011, concerned illegal immigrants with criminal records, Los Angeles Times reported on Tuesday. Concerning the number and priority of the deportations, ICE Commissioner John Morton told reporters, "You can count on seeing more of the same next year." US President Barack Obama's administration decided in September to extend the deployment of 1,200 National Guard troops on the US-Mexico border through the end ...

With Tens of Millions of Citizens in Great Need, Why Spend Hundreds of Billions on Illegal Aliens? Millions of American citizens are in serious financial trouble. Consider the pandemic of economic ruin running rampant in our great nation: Unemployment and underemployment have idled or undercut 14-25 million Americans. In the black community, the devastation is even more pronounced, the suffering all the greater. Foreclosures and bankruptcies are at record levels. Millions of Americans owe more on their homes than the homes are worth. 40-50 million Americans are on food stamps. Young adults are being forced to move back into the homes of their parents just to survive. New graduates from ...

ORLANDO -- With both jobs and immigration likely topics of sharp debate at tonight's Republican debate here in Florida, a new report suggests that newly-arrived immigrants have filled a majority of new jobs created in Texas, home to Republican frontrunner Gov. Rick Perry. "Of jobs created in Texas since 2007, 81 percent were taken by newly arrived immigrant workers (legal and illegal)," says the report from the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that advocates reduced levels of both legal and illegal immigration. The report estimates that about 40 percent of the new jobs were taken by illegal immigrants, while 40 percent were taken by legal immigrants. The vast majority ...

KEENE, N.H. — Mitt Romney opened his town hall meeting here talking about the economy — his thoughts on growing business, getting government out of the way — just as he does nearly every other campaign event. But when he opened last week’s forum for questions, the first voter he called on didn’t seem concerned about any of that. He wanted to know the Republican presidential candidate’s stance on border security. A similar scene played out in South Carolina a few days later, when Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) attended a town hall meeting she assumed would center on the economy, jobs and the federal deficit — only to see the assembled voters react most ...

Undocumented workers got billions from IRS in tax credits, audit finds By Lisa Rein The Internal Revenue Service allowed undocumented workers to collect $4.2 billion in refundable tax credits last year, a new audit says, almost quadruple the sum five years ago. Although undocumented workers are not eligible for federal benefits, the report released Thursday by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration concludes that federal law is ambiguous on whether these workers qualify for a tax break based on earned income called the additional child tax credit. Taxpayers can claim this credit to reduce what they owe in taxes, often getting refunds from the government. The vagueness ...

Mexican Police Are Now Staging Drug Raids From Inside The U.S.

The New York Times reports that the Obama administration is now allowing Mexican police to orchestrate cross-border drug raids from inside the United States. Under the new program, Mexican agents travel secretly to the U.S. where, with intel and support from the DEA, they launch so-called "boomerang missions" against suspected drug traffickers back across the border. The operations are yet another indication of the deteriorating security situation in Mexico. By staging operations from the U.S., both governments hope to avoid the cartel corruption that continues to plague the Mexican military. The campaign also skirts around the strict limitations Mexico puts on U.S. agents ...

The town of Greenfield, California, first flashed on my radar screen in 2001 when I read about local Mexicans sexually harassing girls as they walked home from school every day. The moms complained to the INS since many if not all of the perverts were illegal aliens. (See A Town Divided: INS deports 39 after schoolgirls and parents complained of harassment, sparking debate on racism and sexism in Salinas Valley, San Francisco Chronicle, 4/16/01....LINK). Concerned parents were accused of racism even though they were Hispanic themselves. because any objection to criminal alien behavior gets the programmed response, no matter what. Greenfield got national attention in 2009 when a story ...

Last week, Carmen Álvarez Excelsior wrote a report for Salem-News.com claiming the notorious drug gang Los Zetas will attempt to overthrow the Mexican government next year using weapons sent by the United States. Excelsior said the brutal gang uses an airport in Fort Worth, Texas, to fly the weapons into Mexico. Rejón Aguilar, one of the original seven members of Los Zetas who was recently captured by police, told Mexican officials the gang bought guns directly from the U.S. government under its Operation Fast and Furious. Excelsior reported that military-grade weapons are also brought into the country through the El Paso-Ciudad Juarez and Palomas-Columbus border crossings. ...

The state of Washington has canceled the driver’s license of a journalist who, in a New York Times Magazine article last month, revealed that for 14 years he kept a secret from his U.S. employers: He is an illegal immigrant. While illegal immigrants can still obtain drivers licenses in Washington, licensing officials said they canceled Jose Antonio Vargas’ driver’s license because he could not prove that he lived in the state when he obtained it, as required by law. In a piece he penned under the headline, “My life as an undocumented immigrant,” Vargas laid bare details of a life built on lies that started with his arrival as a 12-year-old on a fake passport from ...

Greek Tragedy Goes Global - by Stephen Lendman After Greece's government surrendered to banker occupation, trends analyst Gerald Celente told Russia Today that: America's "economy continues to decline. There's no recovery in sight." Across Europe in Greece, Britain and elsewhere, people are reacting against forced austerity to assure bankers get paid. In fact, Trends Journal months ago called it "off with their heads 2.0....The global ponzi scheme is under collapse....whether it's in Egypt, Tunisia, whether it's in the UK, Greece. Watch out for Spain. Here comes Italy. Ireland's coming up the backstretch. It's only going to get much worse." ...

After years of wrangling, US and Mexican officials signed an agreement Wednesday that allows trucks from each nation to travel on the other country’s highways – a key provision of NAFTA. The United States and Mexico on Wednesday signed an agreement aimed at resolving a cross-border trucking dispute. The longstanding disagreement had come to symbolize growing resistance, especially in the US Congress, to free-trade provisions with America’s southern neighbor. The accord, signed in Mexico City by US and Mexican transportation officials, would end a 15-year-old controversy that on the US side featured fears of unsafe Mexican trucks barreling along US highways, driven by ...

The High Price Today of Immigration Reform in 1965

America's current mass immigration mess is the result of a change in the laws in 1965. Prior to 1965, despite some changes in the 50's, America was a low-immigration country basically living under immigration laws written in 1924. Thanks to low immigration, the swamp of cheap labor was largely drained during this period, America became a fundamentally middle-class society, and our many European ethnic groups were brought together into a common national culture. In some ways, this achievement was so complete that we started to take for granted what we had achieved and forgot why it happened. So in a spasm of sentimentality on the Right and lies on the Left, we opened the borders. ...

Business lobby helps scuttle immigration curbs in Texas

Powerful business interests helped to scuttle proposed immigration restrictions in Texas on Wednesday, further evidence that Republicans in some states are facing resistance among their own supporters to an immigration clampdown. A so-called "sanctuary cities" bill that would have allowed a crackdown on cities providing sanctuary to illegal immigrants died when the Texas legislature adjourned for another two years without passing it. Since Arizona last year enacted sweeping restrictions on immigration and blamed the federal government for failing to pass national reforms, civil rights activists have feared that the crackdown would spread across the country. Many watched Texas ...
