Canadians who have recently returned from Mexico should be on alert for flu-like symptoms that could be connected to a severe respiratory illness, federal health officials said Thursday in issuing a travel advisory. A severe respiratory illness appears to have infected 137 people in south and central areas of Mexico, with cases concentrated in Mexico City and three other areas, including 20 deaths, the Public Health Agency of Canada said. In the United States, health officials in Texas and California were scrambling this week to deal with a new strain of swine flu, which has been diagnosed in seven people. The states share a border with Mexico not far from a town where two deaths were ...

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stunned many listeners during an appearance on CNN when she asserted that illegal immigration is really not a crime. In an interview with CNN’s John King last week, Napolitano discussed Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Ariz., a strict enforcer of immigration laws who says he wants illegal aliens to be prosecuted and jailed. King said: “A lot of Democrats in Congress want you to investigate him. They think he is over the line. He says he is just enforcing the law and the problem is the federal government.” Napolitano responded: “Sheriff Joe … knows that there aren’t enough law enforcement officers, ...

In obvious response to growing calls for the prosecution of Bush administration personnel who tortured people or who authorized the torture of people, former Vice President Dick Cheney has called on the CIA to declassify information showing that that the torture delivered “good” intelligence. Maybe he is referring to the 183 times that the CIA waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed or to the 83 times the CIA waterboarded Abu Zubadah. My question is: Why limit torture to suspected terrorists? Why not expand it to suspected murderers, drug dealers, robbers, and kidnappers? After all, can’t those types of people commit just as heinous an act as terrorists? Consider, for example, ...

Why has child molestation committed by illegal aliens become an epidemic?

Contrary to what President Bush often claimed, family values do stop at the Rio Grande for many illegal aliens. In addition to suppressing wages, bankrupting our hospitals, and over-crowding our jails and public schools, illegal aliens are preying upon our children. In Operation Predator sweeps across the country conducted between 2003-2007, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents nabbed over 10,700 foreign national child molesters. Many of these predators had been previously convicted of other crimes, and many had already been deported once. The number predators apprehended in the sweeps actually only represent the tip of the iceberg. In fact, a study conducted by the Violent Crimes ...

ST. HELENS -- Several hundred Latinos and supporters marched through St. Helens on Wednesday afternoon to protest Columbia County's anti-immigrant ordinance and the racial tensions they contend it has caused in the community. The Procession for Respect and Dignity put a face on Latinos who march organizers said have been under attack since voters approved a ballot measure for the ordinance in November. It would punish employers who hire illegal immigrants. Two weeks ago, Columbia County Circuit Judge Ted Grove delayed implementation of the ordinance after a challenge by a coalition of social justice groups and business owners represented by the American Civil Liberties Union. It's ...

Japan to Immigrants: Thanks, But You Can Go Home Now

Japan’s offer to minority communities in need has spawned the ire of those whom it intends to help. It is one thing to be laid off in an economic crisis. It is quite another to be unemployed and to feel unwanted by the country where you’ve settled. That’s how Freitas and other Brazilians feel since the Japanese government started the program to pay $3,000 to each jobless foreigner of Japanese descent (called Nikkei) and $2,000 to each family member to return to their country of origin. The money isn’t the problem, the Brazilians say; it’s the fact that they will not be allowed to return until economic and employment conditions improve—whenever that may be. ...

(04-21) 07:01 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) -- Wading into the politically charged immigration debate, a group of colleges and universities is urging Congress to give illegal immigrants tuition aid and a path to citizenship in light of efforts in several states to block them. The College Board, made up of 5,000 schools and best known for its SAT college admission tests, released a report Tuesday that cites a need for federal legislation that would open up in-state college tuition, financial aid and legal status to many illegal immigrants in the U.S. Speaking publicly on the issue for the first time, the board is making its push after states in recent years have moved to bar illegal immigrants from ...

The children have given a letter to the U.S. Embassy asking the president to stop deportations of Mexican immigrants. They gathered outside the embassy Thursday as Obama met with Mexican President Felipe Calderon. Among them was 12-year-old Saul Arellano, the son of a woman who holed up for a year in a Chicago church before being deported in 2007. Talks on immigration reform are likely ...

Yesterday, the Immigration Policy Center (the research arm of the American Immigration Law Foundation) released a new report, “The Economics of Immigration Reform: What Legalizing Undocumented Immigrants Would Mean for the U.S. Economy.” The report is chock full of facts and figures showing that legalizing undocumented workers would “improve wages and working conditions for all workers, and increase tax revenues for cash-strapped federal, state and local governments.” Comprehensive immigration reform legislation would “pay for itself through the increased tax revenue it generates,” and newly legalized workers would be better positioned to move into higher ...

Pedro Guzman has been an American citizen all his life. Yet in 2007, the 31-year-old Los Angeles native - in jail for a misdemeanor, mentally ill and never able to read or write - signed a waiver agreeing to leave the country without a hearing and was deported to Mexico as an illegal immigrant. For almost three months, Guzman slept in the streets, bathed in filthy rivers and ate out of trash cans while his mother scoured the city of Tijuana, its hospitals and morgues, clutching his photo in her hand. He was finally found trying to cross the border at Calexico, 100 miles away. These days, back home in California, "He just changes from one second to another. His brain jumps back to ...

UK EPIDEMIC - MUSLIM TAXI DRIVERS RAPING BRITISH GIRLS & WOMEN

Recently a BBC announcer was sacked/fired for requesting a "non Asian taxi driver" to transport her young unaccompanied 14 year old daughter. (Out of concern for her daughter's fears/mental well being & safety) Of course, the "racist" club was trotted out by the mainstream media and others to verbally bludgeon Sam Mason for having the audacity to demand an "English driver". But was Sam Mason really exposing her racism or was she reacting, as any mother would, to the facts that there is a ongoing epidemic of muslim taxi driver rapes in the UK? (Note: the media prefers the more vague term "Asian") Not surprising - the mainstream media, is ...

The majority of “undocumented Irish” young people living illegally in America come from Fermanagh and Tyrone, the Assembly had been told. But new President Barack Obama intends to tackle the problem, according to Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness. Reporting on his recent week-long trip to the US, Mr McGuinness said the issue came up constantly. There is an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 illegal Irish in the US, with the majority coming from Fermanagh and Tyrone. Mr McGuinness said: “The issue of the undocumented Irish came up consistently and persistently at many of the engagements in which we were involved." “There is no doubt that it is a matter with which ...

NOGALES, Mexico — A steady flow of Americans used to come down Interstate 19 to this city on the Arizona border: those looking for cheap prescription drugs, kitschy souvenirs or less wholesome pursuits. That flow of visitors has largely dried up, and city leaders blame another southward stream. Guns from the U.S. are fueling an outbreak of violence in Nogales and all over Mexico, according to officials from both countries. As the U.S. and Mexico talk of a shared responsibility to contain an epidemic of drug-related violence, the U.S. is dispatching federal agents to the border to oversee expanded vehicle searches and investigations of dealers to keep guns from ending up in the hands ...
