2 hours, 39 minutes ago With tensions rising and the police department and municipal budget stretched thin, Hazleton is about to embark on one of the toughest crackdowns on illegal immigrants anywhere in the United States. Last week the mayor of this former coal town introduced, and the City Council tentatively approved, a measure that would revoke the business licenses of companies that employ illegal immigrants; impose $1,000 fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants; and make English the official language of the city. "Illegal immigrants are destroying the city," said Mayor Lou Barletta, a Republican. "I don't want them here, period." Barletta said he ...

(06-18) 14:28 PDT SAN DIEGO, (AP) -- Fewer parents are walking their children to school in this border city's Linda Vista neighborhood. The crowd of day laborers huddled in a parking lot outside McDonald's has dropped by half. A sense of unease has spread in this community of weather-worn homes since immigration agents began walking the streets as part of a stepped-up nationwide effort targeting an estimated 590,000 immigrant fugitives. Other illegal immigrants are being rounded up along the way. Juana Osorio, an illegal immigrant from the Mexican state of Oaxaca, said her neighbors have largely stayed indoors since agents visited her apartment complex June 2. "People rarely ...

DENVER – With no resolution of immigration-reform legislation at the federal level, states have been pressing ahead with their own measures intended to discourage illegal immigration and curtail costs of providing services to that population. Lawmakers in Kansas, Iowa, and Arizona have voted this year to restrict certain social services to illegal immigrants, following similar action last year in Virginia. Other states have passed legislation cracking down on employers of illegal immigrants and those who sell forged documents to illegals. n all, state legislatures have seen some 500 immigration-reform bills introduced in 2006, according to the National Conference of State ...

Woman's ID Stolen by Dozens of Suspected Illegals Social Security Number Used, She Owed $1 Million in Taxes, CNN Says By PETER PRENGAMAN, AP DUBLIN, California (June 17) - One woman's Social Security identification number has been used by at least 81 people in 17 states. Though impossible to verify in every case, information gleaned from criminal investigations, tax documents and other sources suggest most of the users were probably illegal immigrants trying to get work. Audra Schmierer, a 33-year-old housewife in this affluent San Francisco suburb, realized she had a problem in February 2005, when she got a statement from the IRS saying she owed $15,813 in back taxes - even though she ...

Ranchers Add Ladders to Border Fences [Full Thread]

FALFURRIAS, Texas (AP) -- A few Texas ranchers tired of costly repairs to cattle fences damaged by illegal immigrants have installed an easier route over the U.S.-Mexican border - ladders. "It's an attempt to get them to use the ladders instead of tearing the fences," said Scott Pattinson, who owns one of a group of ranches known as La Copa. La Copa is just south of a U.S. Border Patrol highway checkpoint that went up 75 miles from the border several years ago, sending migrants through the brambly scrub of nearby ranches instead. Some immigrants walk for hours or days to skirt the checkpoints in temperatures hovering around 100 degrees. Their feet have worn visible paths ...

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands -- One recent sunny afternoon, as the city's venerable buildings cast ever-changing reflections in the famous canals, a prominent Dutch editor was ruminating with me on the reasons behind the immigration upheavals here. "For too long, we were too much afraid to speak out on religious -- or any -- differences," Hubert Smeets was saying, a touch of sadness in his voice. "It was taboo to speak of religious, or even ethical, differences. "Remember, before World War II, 12 percent to 14 percent of Amsterdam was Jewish -- only 10 percent survived. So how can you say that, in the land of Anne Frank, you should not allow others to come?" He ...

We're Being Cheated

We're Being Cheated By Frosty Wooldridge 6-12-6 How's immigration doing in your city or state? In Colorado, immigration adds four million people in 60 years, which will place our state in a water crisis we won't be able to solve. We'll be 'eating' the Brown Cloud over Denver with every breath because it will double in toxicity. Gridlock traffic will paralyze transportation. Our schools already suffer 67 percent drop out/flunk out rates in Denver Public Schools. It's already happening and that's why the 'white flight' articles showed Denver parents taking their kids away from schools inundated with illegal alien kids. The fact stands that 60 percent of Mexican illegals quit school before ...

Open Borders Threaten Jewish CloutBy Stephen SteinlightJune 16, 2006 In passing President Bush's Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act last month, a bipartisan Senate coalition has shown itself to be suffering from the dubious, irresponsible mindset articulated in Yiddish as "Sie machen sich nicht wissentig" and by Thomas Aquinas as "Ignorantia Affectata": willfully making themselves unknowing while feigning ignorance about inconvenient facts. A majority of Senate Democrats chose to pander to Latinos, abandoning principle and the party's historical base to placate a potentially larger electorate. A minority of the chamber's Republicans, meanwhile, gave the service sector, ...

Immigration Reform Caucus meeting June 7, 2006 Now that Lou Dobbs spoke about one of the issues discussed at the caucus, I can tell you what happened. On Wednesday June 7, I was invited to attend the Immigration Reform Caucus in Washington by Rosemary Jenks of Numbers USA. Rosemary brought the guest speaker. I was not informed on what the issues would be, but accepted the invitation anyway. I am very glad I did, because I sure got an earful. The guest speaker was a family member of the Castarena Leija Sanchez cartel family. Her Stepfather is the head of this cartel. Her Stepfather murdered her father, so that he could marry her mother. Her Stepfather is now in prison here. Believe it or ...

Bush Administration Quietly Plans NAFTA Super Highway By Jerome R. Corsi Human Events 6-14-6 Quietly but systematically, the Bush Administration is advancing the plan to build a huge NAFTA Super Highway, four football-fields-wide, through the heart of the U.S. along Interstate 35, from the Mexican border at Laredo, Tex., to the Canadian border north of Duluth, Minn. Once complete, the new road will allow containers from the Far East to enter the United States through the Mexican port of Lazaro Cardenas, bypassing the Longshoreman's Union in the process. The Mexican trucks, without the involvement of the Teamsters Union, will drive on what will be the nation's most modern highway ...

Hastert Deals Blow to Immigration Bill

Hopes for a quick compromise on immigration were dealt a blow Tuesday after House Speaker Dennis Hastert said he wanted to take a "long look" at a Senate bill offering possible citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants. Hastert said hearings on the Senate bill should be held before appointing anyone to a House-Senate committee to negotiate a compromise immigration bill. Later, he said he was unsure what the House's next move would be. "We're going to take a long look at it," Hastert said late Tuesday. House Majority Leader John Boehner agreed. "I think we should know clearly what's in the Senate bill," Boehner said. But he added there are lots of ways to ...

House, Senate May Agree on Employer Sanctions, Verification Washington report: Increase in guest workers questionable as immigration negotiations begin, long conference committee fight likely. By Mark Schoeff Jr. When the controversy surrounding the proposed immigration reform legislation finally cools, provisions mandating employer verification of employee status and imposing harsh fines for hiring illegal workers are likely to be included in any bill that emerges from House-Senate negotiations. The House legislation, backed in large part by conservatives, focuses only on border security and workplace enforcement. The Senate bill is comprehensive, containing enforcement measures and ...

Employers and Hiring Practices Are Targets in Immigration Debate

Any immigration law that eventually emerges from Congress is likely to contain more employer responsibilities and sanctions. By Gina Ruiz It’s anybody’s guess what the ultimate configuration of immigration reform will be once the political dust settles. But it is safe to assume that the days of minimal liability for hiring undocumented workers will start to fade away, says Louis DeSipio, assistant professor of political studies and Latino studies at the University of California, Irvine. "There will be a greater onus on the shoulders of companies to be more careful in their employment practices," DeSipio says. This increased liability will, in all likelihood, ...

The stealth amnesty of Rep. Mike Pence Posted: June 13, 2006 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2006 http://WorldNetDaily.com Addressing a gathering of Hispanics last week, President Bush declared: "There are those here in Washington who say, 'Why don't we just find the folks and send them home.' That ain't gonna work." Well, deportation certainly "ain't gonna work" if the chief law-enforcement officer of the United States refuses to enforce the law, as Bush has refused for five years. But as is his custom, President Bush is attacking a straw man. Few in this debate call for creation of a national police to begin Palmer Raid roundups of nannies. The agreed-upon strategy for ...

June 05, 2006 Time To Rethink Immigration (II): Freeing America From The Immigration Gulag By Peter Brimelow "Yes, the taiga and the tundra awaited them, the record cold of Oymyakon and the copper excavations of Dzhezkazgan; pick and barrow; starvation rations of soggy bread; the hospital; death. The very worst. “But there was peace in their hearts. “They were filled with the fearlessness of those who have lost everything, the fearlessness which is not easy to come by but which endures.” — Alexander Solzhenitsyn, The First Circle [P. 579] I don’t care if he’s unfashionable, I continue to be impressed by the great Russian novelist Alexander ...

Well, I had another nice weekend on the border. 15 were all that got popped by our group, but that’s 15 less you will see outside the local Home Depot. Friday evening, we did a couple of hours of monitoring the border from an elevated vantage point, but didn’t see any future voters waiting for their presidential escort. On Saturday, we manned the same point for 7 hours, but didn’t see any movement. We think that they have moved east and west of that location due to the fence that the Minutemen installed. The barbed wire hasn’t been cut, although the American flag they posted when they built it was missing and probably desecrated. That evening, one of the locals had us ...

Homeland Security accepts fake ID

THE WASHINGTON TIMES June 12, 2006 The Department of Homeland Security allowed a man to enter its headquarters last week using a fake Matricula Consular card as identification, despite federal rules that say the Mexican-issued card is not valid ID at government buildings. Bruce DeCell, a retired New York City police officer, used his phony card -- which lists his place of birth as "Tijuana, B.C." and his address as "123 Fraud Blvd." on an incorrectly spelled "Staton Island, N.Y." -- to enter the building Wednesday for a meeting with DHS officials. Poster Comment:I posted an email from DeCell yesterday. Here's a follow up.

Because both events were scheduled for the same time Joan attended the caucus in the Cannon House office building while Peter and I attended the meeting with officials from Homeland Security. Days prior to our meeting, we had to supply Homeland Security with our dates of birth and Social Security numbers. We were met at the curb by John Minnick who is a member of DHS and is a career civil servant. He escorted us to a security office where a security official, who is not a member of DHS and is a private security guard under ...

COMPREHENSIVE MORAL SQUALOR By David Podvin The Hagel-Martinez Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006 is a swindle wrapped in a deception inside a lie. Although marketed as immigration reform, the bill provides corporate welfare on an unprecedented scale. Hagel-Martinez is a historically significant bait and switch that will diminish the prosperity of the average citizen. The goal of this malignant legislation is to restructure the American economy. Since it is logistically impossible for Corporate America to export all lower income jobs, business yearns to fill those positions with cheap imported labor. Under Hagel-Martinez, legal immigration will double and the percentage of work ...

ONE of Britain’s most senior military strategists has warned that western civilisation faces a threat on a par with the barbarian invasions that destroyed the Roman empire. In an apocalyptic vision of security dangers, Rear Admiral Chris Parry said future migrations would be comparable to the Goths and Vandals while north African "barbary" pirates could be attacking yachts and beaches in the Mediterranean within 10 years. Europe, including Britain, could be undermined by large immigrant groups with little allegiance to their host countries — a "reverse colonisation" as Parry described it. These groups would stay connected to their homelands by the internet ...

Why is President Bush hell-bent to make over 100 million illegal alien's U.S. citizens? CFR is the Answer! The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) document spells out a five- year plan for the "establishment by 2010 of a North American economic and security community" with a common "outer security perimeter." "Community" means integrating the United States with the corruption, socialism, poverty and population of Mexico and Canada. " "Common perimeter" means wide-open U.S. borders ...
