Review [How Would a Patriot Act? Defending American Values from a President Run Amok. By Glenn Greenwald. Working Assets Publishing, 2006. 128 pages.] In this remarkable book, Glenn Greenwald solves a difficult problem. President Bush has for several years authorized the National Security Agency to wiretap telephones within the United States without a judicial warrant. Doing so is illegal, but Bush claims that security against terrorism requires it. Here our puzzle arises. The administration thinks that certain wiretaps are necessary. But under existing law, it can readily obtain a warrant from a special court. When warrants have been requested from this court, they have never been ...

MSNBC's Countdown documented the "swift-boating of Al Gore" Summary: On MSNBC's Countdown, fill-in host Brian Unger denounced the baseless attacks -- including Nazi references -- against the documentary film An Inconvenient Truth, which chronicles former Vice President Al Gore's campaign to raise awareness about global warming. Noting that these attacks ignore the scientific facts put forth in the movie, Unger characterized them as "swift-boating." On the May 31 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, fill-in host Brian Unger, a commentator on National Public Radio's Day to Day, denounced the baseless attacks -- including Nazi references -- against ...

RESENTENCING DATE SET FOR LUERS (Earth Liberation Army SUV arson)
Post Date: 2007-12-29 03:46:29 by Ferret Mike

A resentencing date has been set for convicted Eugene eco-arsonist Jeffrey "Free" Luers, who is now is in the Lane County Jail. A hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 8 in Lane County Circuit Court, according to his supporters. The date is subject to change. Space in the courtroom is very limited, so Luers' supporters are asking that only family and close friends plan to attend the hearing, and they are also asking that "things are kept low-key — any protest or similar activity would be acting against the wishes of Jeff and his family." Earlier this year. the Oregon Court of Appeals reversed Luers' 22-year, eight-month sentence for setting fire to three ...

Ed will be returning to The Political Cesspool for a high octave discussion about a variety of issues, from the Ron Paul campaign to the Liberty Dollar raid and plenty of more sensitive topics of National importance. Fill the tank on the red pickup! (Fred trying to raise $248,846 by the 28th)

In 1994 Fred climbed inside a red pickup truck and drove across Tennessee, taking his conservative message directly to the voters. Now he is traveling across Iowa, showing why he is the true conservative in the race. We have brought back the spirit of the red pickup to work its magic again. We need $248,846 to run the ad on the left while Fred campaigns relentlessly across Iowa. Can Fred count on you? Make a contribution today. He asked for the money this morning. He has $25,870 as of 4:00pm. If Fred can't raise a measly $248,846 by the 28th, it will be mighty embarrassing for him especially since Ron Paul has raised that much in just two hours.

An Open Letter to Pro-War Libertarians on Behalf of Ron Paul Posted by Stephan Kinsella at December 18, 2007 08:55 PM To my fellow libertarians who happen to be war-mongerers and Objectivists (or do I repeat myself?): I know you hate Ron Paul. He's against the Iraq war. And he's skinny, to boot. And a Christian. And likes babies. Yuck. But hear me out. I'm giving you a chance to save face. I know many of you are a bit embarrassed by your previous pro-Iraq war stance, and by being lumped in with the likes of Bill Maher and Christopher Hitchens. You want a way to save face, but still look macho. Here's why you are wrong to oppose Ron Paul for President. First, other than ...

Thanks to those here for your time and interest in creating our ad (a special thanks to Critter) for the Manchester Union Leader. Pending agreement with the paper, our plan is to run it on Sunday, January 6th , two days before the New Hampshire primary. We have two choices. The 4 x 6 Black and White for $1100 and 4 x 6 Color for $1864. Our preference, of course, is the eye catching color! Several 4um members have pledged financial support and now we need to hear from others who enjoy posting here on a regular basis. I believe that the presidency of Ron Paul is our last chance to Restore our Republic and to save our country. I would appreciate it so much if we at ...

US War Vets to Speak Publicly About War Crimes

US War Vets to Speak Publicly About War Crimes by Aaron Glantz US war veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan have announced they're planning to descend on Washington, DC this March to testify about war crimes they committed or personally witnessed in Iraq. "The war in Iraq is not covered to its potential because of how dangerous it is for reporters to cover it," said Liam Madden, a former Marine and member of the group Iraq Veterans Against the War. "That's left a lot of misconceptions in the minds of the American public about what the true nature of military occupation looks like." Iraq Veterans Against the War ...

Scroll down the WTPRN page to view the video Excerpt: "First of all, we need to define this horrible word conspiracy. A lot of people have a kneejerk reaction to that. They talk about conspiracy theorists as if conspiracies weren't real and I feel sorry for these people because I know they have never read a history book. History is full of conspiracies. In fact, it's hard to come up with a major event in history that wasn't created by a conspiracy to a large and significant extent or more of them. Conspiracies are very real in history. They're very real in our present day...."

4UM Fundraiser for Ron Paul Campaign Ad (Thread 2)

New Hampshire will most likely hold the first Primary for President. We have been in contact with the state's largest newspaper, Manchester Union Leader, a conservative publication. For political ads they offer a 6 x 8 for $2200 or a 4 x 6 for $1100. The ad would be a combination photo/text. What we would receive for our money--their Sunday edition covers the entire state of New Hampshire with 250,000 copies to homes and businesses. The ad would be placed in the news section in as advantageous a position as we can arrange. To make this ad viable we are asking for two things--financial support and someone with design and software expertise to do the prototype. For those who can ...

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907. 'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for ...

NY Dairy Farmer Turns the Tables When the Ag Inspectors Arrive for a Mystery Visit

Over the last two weeks, Andrea Elliott has been writing emails to farm associations, her Congressman, and members of the U.S. House and Senate agriculture committees-- -all urging that the upcoming farm bill not include funding for the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). She and her husband, Jim, own a dairy farm in the Catskill Mountains of New York, and she made it plain in her notes that she is adamantly opposed to registering the farm's 80 cows under the federal program. Yesterday (Monday) she received a call from an inspector with the New York Department of Food and Markets in Albany that he planned to come by the farm for a special inspection, based on "a ...

ANTI-NAU WARRIORS BEGINNING TO MOVE THE ROCK UPHILL

Just a year ago most would have predicted there was no way to stop the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) which many believe will become a North American Union (NAU). The proponents are rich, powerful and determined. From the White House to huge, wealthy international corporations, these proponents of the SPP are used to getting their way. The little people back in their grassroots are just silly pawns to be manipulated or ignored. But there are signs that the huge rock at the bottom of the hill that is the unmovable NAU is beginning to budge uphill as heroes are emerging in the fight. Some close to the movers and shakers are beginning to hint at a concern that they just might not ...
