The Ozark Howler, also known as the Ozark Black Howler, is a legendary creature that is purported to live in remote areas in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Ozark Howler is typically described as being bear sized, with thick body, stocky legs, black shaggy hair, and as having prominent horns. Its cry is often described as being a combination of a wolf's howl and an elk's bugle. Cryptozoologists have speculated that the creature might be a misidentified or unrecognized big cat. Anthropologists have speculated that the creature might be a branching off of the dark dogs of death found in British folklore. Chad Arment asserts in his book Cryptozoology that the Ozark ...

In some of the final hostilities of the Second World War, almost 10,000 survivors of German concentration camps were killed by the Royal Air Force, whose pilots believed they were attacking senior Nazi officers. A Typhoon squadron that attacked four ships in the Bay of Lubeck - strafing survivors struggling in the water - had been told the ships contained escaping SS troops. After a number of incidents in which captured Typhoon pilots had been executed by the Nazi elite corps, the pilots were in no mood to show them any mercy. But in one of the most cruel episodes of the war, the ships contained up to 10,000 survivors, predominantly Jewish, of the concentration camps, and it was their ...

p2 and p3 So you think you know everything about the Romans? They gave us sophisticated road systems, chariots and the modern-day calendar. And of course they had to contend with barbarian hordes who continually threatened the peace, safety and prosperity of their Empire. Didn't they? Terry Jones takes a completely fresh approach to Roman history. Not only does it offer us the chance to see the Romans from a non-Roman perspective, it also reveals that most of the people written off by the Romans as uncivilized, savage and barbaric were in fact organized, motivated and intelligent groups of people, with no intentions of overthrowing Rome and plundering its Empire. This is the true ...

Judah Benjamin: 1811-1884 Post Date: 2009-05-19 21:08:13 by Deasy

[Judah photo]One of the most misunderstood figures in American Jewish history is Judah P. Benjamin, whom some historians have called the brains of the Confederacy, even as others tried to blame him for the Souths defeat. Born in the West Indies in 1811 to observant Jewish parents, Benjamin was raised in Charleston, South Carolina. A brilliant child, at age 14 he attended Yale Law School and, on graduation, practiced law in New Orleans. A founder of the Illinois Central Railroad, a state legislator, a planter who owned 140 slaves until he sold his plantation in 1850, Judah Benjamin was elected to the United States Senate from Louisiana in 1852. When the slave states seceded ...
Understanding the North Carolina Smoking Ban Post Date: 2009-05-19 19:16:14 by Deasy

North Carolina is the house that tobacco built, and now its former sustenance is officially on the law books as being against the law to consume in public. If you think about the implications of this they are sweeping. News reports indicate popular support for the ban. I believe it. This is tyranny via a democratic process. Personal responsibility is obviated. Freedom of association is usurped by the government. The essential tenets of our original revolution are torn asunder. I include the article here, although you don't need to read it. What more do I need to say? The prologue of the 1938 film "Olympia" directed by Leni Riefenstahl. It features shots of the Acropolis, ancient statues, athletes and the lighting of the Olympic flame. Olympia was commissioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Music from the soundtrack of the Oliver Stone film "Alexander" (2004) composed by Vangelis. (The only cut I made to the video in order to match the music was in the last 15 seconds - the rest of the film remains intact in sequence of scenes and speed.)

Excerpted. A long, worthy read: Private Law And Public Municipal Law Let's understand the meaning of private law versus public municipal law. Private law, also called non-positive law and local law, is a term that is used to describe the principles and regulations that an individual uses to direct his or her own life. It is also called the "law of conscience." That is, it is your personal philosophical and religious belief system that you use to control your own life and decisions. For example, if you state that you believe that abortions are not proper, then you are verbalizing a part of your private law. If you express that you believe that it is not proper for you to own ...

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A white fraternity that traces its roots to the Civil War and Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee is again facing complaints over its antebellum-themed events. This time, University of Alabama alumnae are upset after Kappa Alpha Order members wearing Confederate uniforms and carrying battle flags paraded past a historically black sorority as the women celebrated the group's 35th anniversary. The fraternity has been forced to halt its "Old South" festivities on some campuses because of claims of racial insensitivity, and Alabama members have apologized for pausing in front of Alpha Kappa Alpha's sorority house during this year's parade. Alpha Kappa ...

Gun Control in Germany, 1928-1945 Post Date: 2009-05-12 23:42:02 by Deasy

A common belief among defenders of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is that the National Socialist government of Germany under Adolf Hitler did not permit the private ownership of firearms. Totalitarian governments, they have been taught in their high school civics classes, do not trust their citizens and do not dare permit them to keep firearms. Thus, one often hears the statement, "You know, the first thing the Nazis did when they came to power was outlaw firearms," or, "The first thing Hitler did in Germany was round up all the guns." One can understand why many American gun owners want to believe this. They see in the current effort of their own ...

Even before the appearance of this book, he had already established a solid reputation with ...
Stalin Prepared for Summer 1941 Attack Post Date: 2009-05-12 19:04:48 by Deasy

Institute for Historical Review Viktor Suvorov is a former member of the Soviet General Staff who now lives in the West. He is the author of three authoritative works on the Soviet armed forces. Writing in the June 1985 issue of the Journal of the Royal United Services Institute for Defence Studies, Suvorov assembles impressive evidence to show that Stalin was preparing to attack Germany in 1941. The respected British journal introduced this startling article by noting that "historians who have hitherto uncritically accepted the thesis that Stalin was the victim of unprovoked aggression in the summer of 1941 may have to revise, or at least modify, their views." Suvorov writes ...
