The battles you have never heard of. Mindless slaughter after generals screw up. This is the best episode so far. How about losing 1500 dead and 6000 wounded to take a worthless air strip? Or losing nearly an entire battalion of Japanese-American troops to take a worthless town in France? The episode is repeating in a few minutes, at 9:30 CDT. A big wow. Until now, I knew virtually everything in the series, but enjoyed seeing it presented this way. This episode is mostly unfamiliar stuff, in part because the armed forces don't like talking about these massive failures.

Pretty amazing. Hess, Mengele and all your Auschwitz faves go hunting, welcome some really good looking prostitutes (er, women's auxiliary, but it's obvious), dedicate a hospital and get drunk. And bury their dead from an allied air strike (terrorist raid, in SS lingo). Fascinating and timely, given the PBS series, which is just about to get into the war in Europe. While I don't have red hair (blond with a reddish beard), there are several red-haired people my family, I had freckles when young plus fair skin, and also had ADD (long before the scourge of Ritalin).
