[LWAN] Ecuador: Crime and Contrasts
Post Date: 2005-11-21 16:46:18 by Neil McIver

The Spanish classes have proven too much for too long and I discontinued them. It was great for the first few weeks but time is a good friend with new languages. Understanding others is difficult but I know enough to get around and ask for what I need. Just being here and letting what I got soak in is a good thing. Crime continues to preoccupy the mind in Quito. Here it is something to live with. In my own first few weeks here I heard only stories and saw "shadows" of crime, but has struck close to home. The internet cafe right across the street from where I live and where I take my laptop -- the one where I was always courteously shown to the back of the cafe -- was burglarized. ...

Update: Awoken Research Group has second database hosting company "disappear"

Here's an update guys: For the second time since we opened our doors in August, the company that currently hosts our MySql database (http://freemysql.net/) has mysteriously abandoned their website and subsequent forums, and stopped responding to e-mails. This has caused out entire website to be unaccessable. This company, that has previously given exceptionally punctual and accurate customer service, seems to have disappeared off of the face of the Earth. So, If any one can host a MySql database for us, we'd really appreciate it. Cheers - valis awoken(dot)research(dot)group@gmail.com http://valis.cjb.cc/

Does Fitzgerald have any cover up history?

I was listening to George Noori's show last night (Coast to Coast) and someone said she thought Fitzgerald had been involved in some cover up in the past. I have no idea if it's true, or any details - has anyone else heard of this? I'm really saddened that Rove has not been indicted at this point and that maybe this investigation won't go far enough. Maybe I'm jumping the gun but I'm wondering what's up with Fitzgerald. Is he on the level?

I wonder how the "Lefties" will like it when they find out that we on the TRUE Right are enjoying Fitzmas week as much as they are

I looked at much of the Fitzmas material coming out and found it to mainly come from the Left side of our artificial political spectrum. In fact I read that the term even came from DemocraticUnderground. I wonder how these lefties are going to like it when they find out that certain people on the RIGHT (Constitutionalists, Paleo-Cons and Libertarians) are enjoying Fitzmas week as much as they are. (I'm bringing this up because it is doctrine amongst 'bot types on the Left that every one on the Right must love Shrub and his imperial administration and this is simply not so.)

Jes a little joke

Jes a little Internet joke I came across that cracked me up: A driver is stuck in a traffic jam on the highway. Nothing is moving. Suddenly a man knocks on the window. The driver rolls down his window and asks, "What happened?" "Terrorists kidnapped President Bush and are asking for a $10 million ransom. Otherwise they are going to douse him with gasoline and set him on fire. We are going from car to car to take up a collection." The driver asks, "How much is everyone giving on average?" "About a gallon."

Remember Jason Befort? No? I didn’t think so. This rant will take time to develop--please bear with me. On October 20, Diane Sawyer did a story on Prime Time Live about “Prussian Blue”--horror of horrors--two little white girls singing about preserving their race--an immediate clear and present danger to all Americans and America. There was even a thread concerning this program on this forum. http://www.tos4truth.org/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=13736&Disp=24#C24 And here from the Prime Time website: “Oct. 20, 2005 — Thirteen-year-old twins Lamb and Lynx Gaede have one album out, another on the way, a music video, and lots of fans. They may remind you ...

Hidden fleecing hits world capital markets

Hidden fleecing hits world capital markets October 22, 2005 WASHINGTON: Investor capital is being destroyed twice as quickly as previously thought, with monetary authorities exploiting less easily detectable fleecing techniques, computer images reveal. An imaging method developed by scientists in the US has shown for the first time the damaging effects of "selective fleecing", in which stocks and bonds are thinned out, but the market is not cleared completely. The images indicate that a sector of more than 100 large cap instruments is disturbed in this way every year. Until now, computer-based methods for measuring fleecing across large areas have been capable only of ...

A Tale of Two 9/11 Meetings - Part 1

Two seperate, but equally important meetings that took place, regarding the preparations for 9/11, just might have more in common than we think. One is a "three-day secret terror conference" which was "monitored by the Malaysian secret police at the CIA's request". The other is a series of meetings in Pakistan between August 28-30, 2001, which were attended by Sen. Bob Graham (D), Rep. Porter Goss (Now CIA head) and Senator John Kyl (R). Goss, Graham, and Kyl were meeting with then-ISI Director Lt. Gen. Mahmood Ahmed in Washington at the time of the 9/11 attacks. The FBI confirmed that Mahmood Ahmed ordered Saeed Sheikh to wired $100,000 to 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta. ...

You can now get stamps featuring an image of your choice. Your choice, that is, as long as it doesn't violate PhotoStamp's content restrictions. As far as I can tell, this photo does not violate their rules: So, I ordered some stamps featuring this image. Hope it gets past their censors.

WHY Oklahoma (world terrorist capital)?

I actually asked on another thread but I wanted to get as wide a response as possible. Please excuse me if this has been discussed to death before (as I'm relatively new) or if the answers are well known to folks here. So we just had another OK bombing and the 9/11 terrorists apparently had some OK connections and of course, Tim McVeigh, etc, etc. What's the attraction with Oklahoma? Why not Harvard, or Michigan State or CalTech, etc etc?

I'm sure most of us, if not ALL of us, have noted it, but look at all the emphasis on scaring us that's gone since Monday. We start off with the bird flu scare, and scientists re-creating the 1918 virus, and the possible need for an expanded role for the military on American soil, and we move on to Bush' speech about the evil Islamists and now we have terror alerts on the NYC subway. Coincidence? I think not. Have I missed any other attempts to terrorize us this week?

Furball solutions Top Regular combing (rather than brushing) right down to the skin removes a majority of the problem for long and shorthaired cats. Use of cat laxatives lubricates the remainder so it passes more easily. There is now a palatable high fibre food, Hills Feline Hairball Adult Dry Food, which keeps the hair moving along and not balling up into a furball and being re-presented to your carpet. Poster Comment:Excerpt from Cat Care Tips page. That food may have made my cat sick, it was the last thing I gave her before she quit eating. Took her to vet today, hadn't eaten since Sunday, she ate a little tuna tonite so I think she'll be okay. I really think there might be something ...

September 25, 2005 The captain announced we'd remain in a holding pattern until the fog lifted and warned cautiously we may need to divert to another airport. But that didn't matter to me, especially if we went to Cuenca. That's probably the closest city. I'm on an adventure anyway, and the diversion would just be extra spice. But unfortunately, the fog lifts and we begin our nighttime approach. The city lights below betray the mountainous terrain otherwise hidden in the night. I smile. I'm in South America, in Quito, Ecuador. A country named for its lattitude. Quito's extraordinary 9000 foot altitude is supposed to make you feel weak but it doesn't feel any different at all. Yet. I seem ...

Sunday Freeper Protest on the Mall

I stopped by the freeper protest at about 1:00 today. It was on the mall up near 7th Street. I didn't know where it was but as I was passing Camp Casey I saw a 400 pound guy with a long beard and a shirt that said "Jesus and George W. Bush". I figured he would know where the rally was and he did. Said he was going there himself. As I was talking to him I noticed the guy had a white bullhorn that had the words "Jesus" and "No Fags" painted on it. The guy saw me pulling out the camera however and said no pictures. I didn't push it as some of these guys believe cameras capture their souls and stuff like that. To give the devil his due, I think the crowd count ...
