Is it just me, or has anyone noticed that much of America today is one endless chain of asinine fads perpetuated by the television and social media? Further along, has anyone noticed that this endless chain of serial fads carries over into our politics? It’s almost as if our political system is just an aspect of Facebook with people posting photos of their pet political candidates doing dumb tricks and wearing ridiculous hats. Followed by the ubiquitous comments: “OMG! He so cuuute, lol!” and “ROTFLMAO!! Where did U find such cute candidate? 2 cool!” Am I alone in my nausea over this ridiculous processed cheese food of a culture? Look, I’m not overly cynical, ...

Pentagon to release almost 200 photos of tortured Afghan, Iraqi prisoners under court order

The Pentagon will publish 198 photos of tortured detainees in the US prisons in Iraq and Afghanistan on Friday, a top American civil rights group has said. The release comes after a decade-long lawsuit ended in the group’s favor in March. Jameel Jaffer, director of the ACLU’s Center for Democracy, announced on Wednesday that the US Department of Defense (DoD) would provide public access to previously disclosed images of prisoners being tortured in US detention centers after more than 10 years of staunch resistance to do so. The ACLU filed a Freedom of Information Act request demanding the government to reveal records, including photos of the alleged abuse of prisoners by US ...

B.J. Soper, the founder of the Pacific Patriots Network, walked out of the FBI press conference about the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupation after 40 seconds “because it was all lies.” At the presser in Burns, Oregon, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon announced that in the last 24 hours, eight people have been arrested and charged with “conspiracy to impede officers of the United States from discharging their official duties through the use of force, intimidation, or threats,” and that one person was killed — Robert “LaVoy” Finicum. Soper claims, “I believe Finicum was murdered,” a view shared by other residents ...

Hillary Clinton’s Nightmare
Post Date: 2016-01-28 07:25:19 by Ada

Hillary Clinton’s nightmare is not the sudden resurgence of Bernie Sanders. It is the fidelity to the rule of law of the FBI. The recent revelations of the receipt by Clinton of a Special Access Program email, as well as cut and pasted summaries of state secrets on her server and on her BlackBerry nearly guarantee that the FBI will recommend that the Department of Justice convene a grand jury and seek her indictment for espionage. Here is the backstory. It seems that every week, more information comes to light about Clinton’s grave legal woes. Her worries are in two broad categories: One is her well-documented failure to safeguard state secrets and the other is her probable use ...

What’s in Your “Get Home” Bag? Into the Fray Episode 98: What’s in Your “Get Home” Bag? – When things start to go bad, you’ll want your “get home” bag to be readily accessible. Start planning now. Kevin Michalowski | January 27, 2016 You do have a “get home” bag, don’t you? If not, how do you expect to get home? Sorry about that. I’ll be serious for the rest of this post. There is a very real possibility that something “larger” than a simple robbery or assault could befall us. Regardless of what the other media outlets are telling you, terrorists are real and they are coming here. Those ...

The Clintons: is the Oregon standoff really about uranium?

by Jon Rappoport January 27, 2016 (To read about Jon’s mega-collection, Power Outside The Matrix, click here.) Note: This article was written before the Oregon shootout in which one man was killed and another wounded. Is uranium at the heart of the Oregon Malheur federal-protestor standoff? That’s the question I’m asking. It isn’t a flippant question. I realize there are many other issues swirling around this event. The Hammonds, the Bundys, militias, the feds, cattle grazing on federal lands, federal land grabs, and so on. This article isn’t meant to take apart those matters. It’s meant to follow up on my previous article, in which I present a circumstantial ...

Fewer People Are Getting Driver's Licenses, Study Finds
Post Date: 2016-01-27 08:31:09 by Ada

If your teenage years are long gone and you still haven’t bothered to get a driver’s license, you’re not alone. According to a recent study, the percentage of people with a driver’s license decreased across all age groups between 2011 and 2014. And, while the decrease began for those over 44 around 2008 and for those over 69 around 2011, there has been a continuous decrease for those 16 to 44 years old since 1983. According to The Atlantic, researchers are unsure why fewer people are driving. Some of the reasons suggested by an earlier study of unlicensed young adults include cost, access to public transportation, the ability to obtain transportation from others, and ...

Exclusive: The endless demonizing of Russian President Putin is the new fun game in Official Washington as neocons dream about “regime change” in Moscow and military contractors drool over huge profits from “modernizing” America’s nuclear arsenal, with few thoughts about the heightened risk of nuclear annihilation, writes Jonathan Marshall. At a time when America’s public sector is apparently too strapped financially even to provide safe drinking water for some of its residents, the Obama administration plans to commit the nation to spending at least $1 trillion over the next three decades to improve our ability to fight a nuclear war. That’s right ...

Jason Patrick, one of the Oregon occupiers, broadcasts live from the Harney County Resource Center, discusses the murder of his friend LaVoy Finicum, and says that he is fully committed to his desire for a peaceful resolution. Visas for Al-Qaeda: CIA Handouts That Rocked the World

Ah… what a great day it was when we found this photo of Ziggy with Osama bin Laden [ Editor’s Note: Many might say what is the big deal about running a story on the CIA and Saudis being the wet nurses for what became Al Qaeda. It’s old news. But VT readers will know better. It’s not old news because the CIA underground terrorist railroad that got started back then — the organizers got away scot free with that — is basically the same system “they” have been using to feed the global Jihadi system that our protectors claim to be fighting. The New York Times dug up this front row seat visa officer who was stationed in Saudi Arabia back then to give us ...

Dumb and Dumber

In response to an e-mail I received from a U.S. soldier a few years ago about an unnamed “false and cowardly article spreading foolish nonsense” that I had written back in 2009, I asked the question: “Are U.S. Soldiers Really This Dumb?” Unfortunately, the conclusion I reached was that the soldier’s comments in defense of the military were not just dumb, they were “really dumb.” I also said that this soldier was “an embarrassment to everyone in the military” and that “if these are the kind of people that are supposedly defending our freedoms, then we are in trouble.” Soldiers like this, I pointed out, “are the ones who will gladly ...

Syrian Civil War: Why the Endless Conflict Is at a Decisive Point
Post Date: 2016-01-25 08:07:30 by Ada

The Syrian peace talks between government and opposition will begin in the next few days in Geneva in an atmosphere of almost undiluted gloom about the prospects for success. The two sides hate each other and have spent five years trying to kill each other, making it unlikely that they will agree to share power in any way except geographically, with each side keeping the territory it currently holds and defending it with its own armed forces. This pessimism is difficult to contradict, given that several of the most powerful groups doing the shooting will not be present in Geneva. Neither Isis nor the al-Nusra Front are invited, not that it was ever likely that they would turn up even if ...

Hillary Clinton memo highlights Gulf states' failure to block funding for groups like al-Qaida, Taliban and Lashkar-e-Taiba Saudi Arabia is the world's largest source of funds for Islamist militant groups such as the Afghan Taliban and Lashkar-e-Taiba – but the Saudi government is reluctant to stem the flow of money, according to Hillary Clinton. "More needs to be done since Saudi Arabia remains a critical financial support base for al-Qaida, the Taliban, LeT and other terrorist groups," says a secret December 2009 paper signed by the US secretary of state. Her memo urged US diplomats to redouble their efforts to stop Gulf money reaching extremists in Pakistan and ...

US – Turkey eyeing military operation in Syria against ISIS if peace talks fail

[ Editor’s Note: My, my… John Kerry is signaling he is going into the Syrian negotiations prepared to put a gun to someone’s head if the US and Turkey do not get what they want. Gosh, I wonder whose head that could be, as ISIL is not going to be there… maybe ISIL’s supporters, like the Saudis or Qataris? Israel maybe? … certainly not Turkey, despite its now well-publicized oil smuggling. So it must be Assad, whose Army has done more to fight ISIL than anyone, and this is the thanks he gets — a threat that the US and Turkey would move into Syria, under a NATO diplomatic cover of course, to occupy a part of northern Syria to salvage their pipeline plans ...

‘They caused problems’: CIA involved with Gitmo inmates’ suicides – former guard to RT

A former Guantanamo guard, who says he witnessed hunger strike “leaders” being brought to a secret CIA “black site”, is accusing the agency of having staged their suicide to get rid of the “problem”. At the time, the US said the men hanged themselves. On June 10, 2006, the Department of Defense reported that Saudi Arabians Mani al- Utaybi and Yasser al-Zahrani, and a Yemeni citizen, Ali Abdullah Ahmed, “killed themselves in an apparent suicide pact.” “Two Saudis and one Yemeni, each located in Camp 1, were found unresponsive and not breathing in their cells by guards,” Joint Task Force-Guantanamo said at that time, adding that “all ...

Emancipating the Military, Containing the Citizenry
Post Date: 2016-01-23 07:37:36 by Ada

Those who try to understand military policy often confuse themselves by focusing on minor matters such as strategy, tactics, logistics, and armament. Here they err. For years the central goal of the military, the brass ring, has been independence from control by civilians. It has been achieved. In time of war, the first concern of the command is to limit the flow of information to their publics. The actions of the enemy are an important but secondary consideration. Thus militaries strive to prevent the dissemination of photos of mutilated soldiers or, as in Washington today, of governmentally tortured prisoners. In the United States, which characteristically fights wars unrelated to the ...

'Save us Bill Gates!’ Satirical video game slams billionaire’s philanthropy

Anti-poverty campaigners have launched an online video game satirizing Bill Gates' global philanthropy and featuring a pixelated version of the billionaire flying across stereotypical African landscape. ‘Save us Bill Gates’ was released on Friday by UK campaign group Global Justice Now in a bid to highlight the business magnate’s role in international development. The game’s creators opted for 1980s-style animation, and have made it impossible for Gates’ character to lose money. Players must try to throw away all his money within 30 seconds by clicking their mouse. But no matter how hard players click, the billionaire’s wealth increases as the game ...

Nullifying the Jury

“Could we discuss potential punishments?” asked the tall, middle-aged man identified as “Juror 25” during the voir dire for the trial of Matthew Townsend on a ludicrous felony charge of “witness intimidation.” His supposed offense was to publish a well-reasoned and inoffensive Facebook post complaining about being arrested without cause. Pointing out that he had worked as a prison mentor for many years, and had actually counseled inmates facing the death penalty, the juror thought it would be worthwhile to know what would happen to Townsend if he were found guilty. Trial Judge Lynn Norton pointed out that once the trial proper began, the jury would be ...

The Right to Tell the Government to Go to Hell: Free Speech in an Age of Government Bullies, Corporate Censors and Compliant Citizens

“If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”― George Orwell Free speech is not for the faint of heart. Nor is it for those who are easily offended, readily intimidated or who need everything wrapped in a neat and tidy bow. Free speech is often messy, foul-mouthed, obscene, intolerant, undignified, insensitive, cantankerous, bawdy and volatile. While free speech can also be tender, tolerant, soft-spoken, sensitive and sweet, it is free speech’s hot-blooded alter ego—the wretched, brutal, beastly Mr. Hyde to its restrained, dignified and civil Dr. Jekyll—that tests the limits of our so-called ...
