The cash-strapped city hopes to haul in a record $686 million in parking fines next year in what could become the mother of all ticket blitzes, The Post has learned. Documents released last week as part of Mayor Bloomberg's new $59.4 billion budget show that the Finance Department is projecting a $93 million increase in parking-summons revenue over the $593 million expected to come in this fiscal year. A Google News search does not produce a story or even a brief mention of the fact military police were on hand at the Kentucky Derby to keep restless plebs in line. However, an Associated Press photograph, posted on the Yahoo! News website, shows two MPs in combat fatigues with side arms restraining a man at the derby. “Military police detain a fan who ran onto the track following the running of the 135th Kentucky Derby horse race at Churchill Downs Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Louisville, Ky.,” the photo caption reads. Poster Comment:I was speaking to my last (out of many) ex-girlfriend, who told me she had made a deal with one credit card company, to which she owned $5000, to settle for $2500. She sent in the money, and found later she got a statement listing the money as a payment, and the company wanted the other $2500. She told me she's going to use the card (which was supposed to be turned off) to spend the rest of the money you to the limit, and not pay them another cent. Turtle has been having fantasies about calling these banksters out for a duel with pistols at 20 paces.

A thing that I find both curious and disturbing is that fact the United States really has no mythology, in the sense of many well-known, established stories that are both entertaining and educating. Cultures that have endured for thousands of years always have these ritual mythological stories: the Greeks and the Romans, for two examples.
