The petition, which has been pushed by two of the loudest voices in the “defund Obamacare” movement, Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee and Texas Republican Ted Cruz, hit the one million signatures mark Monday morning. The number of signatures now stands at over 1,018,340 as of publication. According to Lee and Cruz, the signatures reveal a growing grassroots momentum against funding Obamacare. “The American people are standing up, speaking out and demonstrating their absolute disdain for the unaffordable and unfair train wreck that ...

The Longshoremen citied Obamacare and immigration reform as two important causes of their disaffiliation. In an August 29 letter to AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, ILWU President Robert McEllrath cited quite a list of grievances as reasons for the dissolution of their affiliation, but prominent among them was the AFL-CIO's support of Obamare. "We feel the Federation has done a great disservice to the labor movement and all ...

By Bashar al-Assad Well, here we are. It’s been two years of fighting, over 100,000 people are dead, there are no signs of this war ending, and a week ago I used chemical weapons on my own people. If you don’t do anything about it, thousands of Syrians are going to die. If you do something about it, thousands of Syrians are going to die. Morally speaking, you’re on the hook for those deaths no matter how you look at it. So, it’s your move, America. What’s it going to be? I’ve looked at your options, and I’m going to be honest here, I feel for you. Not exactly an embarrassment of riches you’ve got to choose from, strategy-wise. I mean, my God, there ...

Syria Hacks Marines.com, Urges Cooperation Against Al Qaeda The full text of the message reads as follows: "This is a message written by your brothers in the Syrian Army, who have been fighting al-Qaida for the last 3 years. We understand your patriotism and love for your country so please understand our love for ours. Obama is a traitor who wants to put your lives in danger to rescue al- Qaida insurgents. Marines, please take a look at what your comrades think about Obama's alliance with al-Qaida against Syria. Your officer in charge probably has no qualms about sending you to die against soldiers just like you, fighting a vile common enemy. The Syrian army should be your ally ...

An Asinine Proposition (Syria)
Post Date: 2013-09-02 14:27:31 by X-15

If and when the United States government intervenes militarily in some way in Syria, there is no question that U.S. military personnel will take the lives and destroy the property of people that had never harmed an American or threatened the United States in any way. And most Americans won’t even care. Should military intervention occur, the following asinine proposition will be repeated ad nauseam just like a version of it has been repeated incessantly ever since U.S. troops invaded Iraq and Afghanistan: I don’t support the U.S. military intervening in Syria, but I support the troops. This is utter nonsense. This is pious drivel. This is idiocy on parade. This is lunacy. ...

A group of activists assembled at the busiest intersection in Spartanburg, S.C. to wave signs and bring awareness to the ongoing push to strike Syria by the Obama administration. A local police officer told them that if someone complained they would have to leave because they did not have a city permit. He also said that activists who continue to protest on the crosswalk would go to jail.

According to Jobbik, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre's Hungarian operation poses a serious national security risk so the party calls on the government to ban the organization and expel its non-Hungarian employees from the country. According to MP György Szilágyi, the organization incites hatred and attacks Hungary on a regular basis systematically interfering in Hungarian domestic matters. Szilágyi informed the press about Jobbik's position on the organization at Tuesday's press conference, soon after it was revealed that the Simon Wiesenthal Center wrote a complaining letter to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) due to an earlier ...

Watch for Falling Rocks
Post Date: 2013-08-31 17:03:54 by Ada

The other day, while driving home from the lovely Blue Ridge Mountains of western NC to the lovely upper Shenandoah Valley, it occurred to me that the metaphor of our time has been before us all my life. Watch for falling rocks. I do watch, but I’ve never seen it happen. Sometimes, you see rocks that have fallen, and sometimes you see the debris after a rockfall cleanup. But I personally have never yet seen the rocks actually falling. Honestly, it’s on my bucket list. The conditions that lead to falling rocks in nature are several, but fundamentally it’s just gravity and weak foundations. It’s a slow process, until it isn’t, and then, I imagine, it can be ...

Biden: We'll Target Congressmen Who Oppose Gun Control Efforts Friday, 30 Aug 2013 12:32 PM By Alexandra Ward The White House will continue its push to strengthen gun control laws, even if it means targeting members of Congress who oppose its agenda, Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday. "If Congress doesn't act, we'll fight for a new Congress," Biden said in the Roosevelt Room of the White House as he swore in B. Todd Jones as the new director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. "It's that simple. But we're going to get this done." In April, a bipartisan gun-control plan that would have expanded background checks and ...

The case for bombing Syria is unraveling The War Party’s Syria narrative is beginning to unravel – and, with it, support for yet another US military intervention in the region. Initially, we were told the US had incontrovertible proof the regime of Bashar al-Assad was responsible for attacking the rebel town of Ghouta with chemical weapons, and that the substance involved was undoubtedly sarin gas. Outrage followed, with news of an impending US strike supposedly scheduled to occur on Thursday or Friday at the latest. However, that appears to have been put on hold as a backlash over the rush to war gathers steam. British lawmakers put the kibosh on the UK’s plans to join the ...

116 House members say Obama needs approval from Congress on Syria

More than 100 lawmakers, including 18 Democrats, have signed a letter that says President Obama would violate the Constitution by striking Syria without first getting authorization from Congress. A total of 116 lawmakers had signed the letter as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, highlighting bipartisan interest and growing momentum in ensuring a role for Congress in any decision to use force in Syria. “Engaging our military in Syria when no direct threat to the United States exists and without prior congressional authorization would violate the separation of powers that is clearly delineated in the Constitution,” states the letter, spearheaded by Rep. Scott Rigell (R-Va.). Rigell has ...

New York City is a place where there is a huge police force and many other public security forces. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a man actively and boastfully attempting to expand gun prohibition across the nation, has plenty of protection for himself. The people, however, are not permitted to own firearms. A couple of years ago the multiple killer, “subway stabber” Maksin Gelman went on a killing spree leaving four dead and many more injured. He had, of course, every confidence that he would be striking unarmed victims--a personal subsidy to his lifestyle choice from the New York City government. He would have gone further if he hadn’t targeted Joseph Lozito, a mixed martial ...

Longer school years aren't the answer. The problem is school itself. Compulsory teach-and-test simply doesn't work Parents send their children to school with the best of intentions, believing that’s what they need to become productive and happy adults. Many have qualms about how well schools are performing, but the conventional wisdom is that these issues can be resolved with more money, better teachers, more challenging curricula and/or more rigorous tests. But what if the real problem is school itself? The unfortunate fact is that one of our most cherished institutions is, by its very nature, failing our children and our society. School is a place where children are ...

Dealing with Cops These Days . . .

In a word – don’t.Officer Unfriendly Not if you can help it. Officer Friendly is a fiction – a vicious fable sold to schoolkids – who soon learn in one way or another that any interaction with a cop is a likely to be a bad interaction. You are dealing with perhaps the worst possible tag-team combination: Someone with legal power over you who is held to a different – and far more lenient – standard than you are. And therefore, you are dealing with a person who is much more likely to do things – not nice things – than you or I or any other person sans special costume and badge might be inclined to do. After all – why not? Especially if one is a ...
