Why I'm leaving America

I will not support the use of aggressive coercion as a solution to social problems, even implicitly by voting or paying taxes. It causes far more problems than it solves. This isn’t a belief that was handed down to me as many of your citizens obtained their ethics. My belief that that coercion is undesirable and ineffective isn’t based on faith, and I’m open to the possibility that I’m wrong. But this is the conclusion of my sincerest attempt at an objective search for truth. It is a conviction forged with evidence and reason. I don’t believe aggressive coercion is wrong because anyone says so; I won’t support its use because of the way it affects humans as ...

How Quickly Will the U.S. Leave Afghanistan? In the wake of several deaths among its contingent of troops in a previously peaceful province in Afghanistan, New Zealand (like France and South Korea) is now expediting the departure of its 140 soldiers. That's not exactly headline- making news here in the U.S. If you're an American, you probably didn't even know that New Zealand was playing a small part in our Afghan War. In fact, you may hardly have known about the part Americans are playing in a war that, over the last decade-plus, has repeatedly been labeled "the forgotten war." Still, maybe it's time to take notice. Maybe the flight of those Kiwis should be ...

Revolt of the Rich

Our financial elites are the new seccessionists. It was 1993, during congressional debate over the North American Free Trade Agreement. I was having lunch with a staffer for one of the rare Republican congressmen who opposed the policy of so-called free trade. To this day, I remember something my colleague said: “The rich elites of this country have far more in common with their counterparts in London, Paris, and Tokyo than with their fellow American citizens.” That was only the beginning of the period when the realities of outsourced manufacturing, financialization of the economy, and growing income disparity started to seep into the public consciousness, so at the time it ...

Lawyer: 20 more cases similar to Brendon Raub ongoing

The lawyer who helped secure the release of Brendon Raub, a former Marine forcibly incarcerated in a psychiatric ward by authorities in Virginia for political posts on Facebook, told the Alex Jones Show Friday that there are currently a further 20 cases in his county alone that are similar in nature to Raub's detention. John Whitehead of the Rutherford Institute also said that he had been contacted by numerous veterans in the aftermath of Raub's release who had encountered similar problems with authorities attempting to have them declared mentally ill. Whitehead attributed the high number of cases involving veterans as a consequence of the Department of Homeland Security's ...

Norway Killer Is Ruled Sane and Given 21 Years in Prison

Norway Killer Is Ruled Sane and Given 21 Years in Prison OSLO — A court on Friday sentenced Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian extremist who admitted killing 77 people, to at least 21 years in prison after ruling that he was sane when he carried out his country’s worst peacetime atrocity. The sentence was the most severe permitted under Norwegian law, but it can be extended at a later date if he is still deemed to be a danger to society. Mr. Breivik, 33, who had insisted that he was sane when he carried out the attacks last year as part of what he called a campaign against multiculturalism in Norway, smiled when the verdict was announced. As he arrived in court on Friday, ...

The Chivalry of Edgar Rice Burroughs

Probably the first science-fiction novel I read was Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Fighting Man of Mars. I'm not completely sure. It might have been The Time Machine and it might have been Dwellers in the Mirage. But to the best of my memory it was A Fighting Man of Mars. Even though I didn't realize at the time, being that I was 12 years old (barely) ERB was writing about the code of chivalry in his novels. Since he was born in 1875, it makes sense. The code existed a lot more back than than it does now. Burroughs main character in his Mars novels (he called Mars Barsoom) was the Earthman John Carter. Carter was a former Confederate officer. I find that significant. The Southern ...

Psychiatrist Threatened to "Brainwash" Brandon

Raub’s Lawyer Says Psychiatrist Threatened to "Brainwash" Brandon and Force Medications The Blaze In a surprising twist, (Raub’s lawyer John) Whitehead revealed a startling allegation that his client told him about prior to his release. Raub complained to his attorney that one of the psychiatrists that he was seeing threatened to “brainwash” him and force him to take medication. “That really scared him,” he said. After soaking in all that Whitehead had shared with him, Beck reflected: “From what I know of this story, this is an outrage. There were some things that stick out to me — as flares of caution. But the one thing we should be ...

We are Women Against Rape but we do not want Julian Assange extradited

For decades we have campaigned to get rapists caught, charged and convicted. But the pursuit of Assange is political 'Julian Assange has made it clear that he is available for questioning by the Swedish authorities, in Britain or via Skype.' When Julian Assange was first arrested, we were struck by the unusual zeal with which he was being pursued for rape allegations. It seems even clearer now, that the allegations against him are a smokescreen behind which a number of governments are trying to clamp down on WikiLeaks for having audaciously revealed to the public their secret planning of wars and occupations with their attendant rape, murder and destruction. Justice for an ...

DALLAS, August 23rd, 2012 - After a special hearing today, Circuit Judge W. Allan Sharret declared the commitment order granted to federal authorities for Brandon Raub’s arrest and detainment was invalid. Raub, the 26-year-old former Marine, pro-liberty activist and Virginia resident, was seized by FBI, Secret Service and local authorities over Facebook posts allegedly “terrorist in nature”. According to court documents, a swift evaluation by social worker Michael Campbell determined Raub’s involuntary admission. The following day, a magistrate Michael S. Znotens ordered his detention at John Randolph Hospital. Raub was evaluated for an additional 15 minutes by Dr. ...

Martha Dodd wasn’t particularly happy when her father was appointed U.S. ambassador to Germany in 1933. When the family arrived in Berlin, Martha found the city irresistibly fascinating, and she immersed the tour guide in a steady stream of questions about architecture, history, and culture. The touring car soon arrived at the Reichstag building, which four months earlier had been the scene of an arson attack that precipitated a politically convenient crisis. The terrorist incident, which was supposedly the work of a small knot of saboteurs led by a Dutch Communist named Marinus van der Lubbe, provided the impetus for passage of the "Law for Removing the Distress of People and ...

Why the GOP Is Scared of Ron Paul and 4 Reasons He Might Still Get the 2012 Republican Nomination

Wait, isn't Dr. Ron Paul out of the presidential race? Isn't it all tied up nicely in a bow with the Romney/Ryan ticket? No. Why would the GOP be scared of Ron Paul but end up nominating him? I'll explain. Romney and the GOP have demonstrated both poor judgment and poor sportsmanship that might cost them by damaging Romney's electability among the Ron Paul supporters thus leading to a splitting of votes, which in turn, could cost the GOP the entire election. Dr. Ron Paul is still in the race for president and is a strong contender for the 2012 GOP nomination. To be on the GOP ballot Aug. 27, 2012 in Tampa and get a 15-minute speaking slot, a candidate must have won the ...

Pussy Riot, the Unfortunate Dupes of Amerikan Hegemony

My heart goes out to the three Russian women who comprise the Russian rock band, Pussy Riot. They were brutally deceived and used by the Washington-financed NGOs that have infiltrated Russia. Pussy Riot was sent on a mission that was clearly illegal under statutory law. You have to admire and to appreciate the spunk of the young women. But you have to bemoan their gullibility. Washington needed a popular issue with which to demonize the Russian government for standing up to Washington's intention to destroy Syria, just as Washington destroyed Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, and as Washington intends to destroy Lebanon and Iran. By intentionally offending religious worshipers – ...

It's Official: Facebook Is the Department of PreCrime

News has just broken about a freedom activist and former Marine named Brandon Raub, who was arrested (apparently without a warrant or being read his rights) on the evening of August 16th. Details are still coming in, but it appears that his "crime" was posting things that the overseers didn't like on Facebook. As I recount the facts of this horrifying case (as best I am able), please remember that the violation of this man's natural rights is not the issue I wish to point out, as ultra-valid as that may be. WHAT HE DID From the above link, you can find five articles from Brandon on a pro-liberty website. Perhaps we might quibble with these posts on a few points ...

The Most Sickening TV Show in History

Surely we have reached some hideous moral low—if only a temporary one—when a TV “reality” show like NBC’s “Stars Earn Stripes” can reduce the blood-soaked, brain-spattered canvas of war to a feel-good athletic competition between washed-up actors, ex-jocks, and Todd Palin. The show–which features skier Picabo Street actor Dean Cain, and a host of other musclebound nonentities—premiered last night. Before it even aired, it was reviled by Desmond Tutu and other bishops, which actually got me curious enough to tune in: I mean, what other cheesy reality show has been slammed by a Nobel Peace Prize winner? It was hosted by Wesley Clark—to his ...

'The Threat of Authority'

Skepticism, Santayana observed, is "the chastity of the intellect." In similar fashion, resistance – not compliance – is the default response of a free person to a directive issued by someone acting in the name of "authority." Louise Ogborn, a teenage employee at a McDonald’s in Mount Washington, Kentucky, was sexually assaulted and confined for hours because this rudimentary understanding of individual autonomy was entirely alien to her workplace supervisor. Louise was working a second shift as a favor to her supervisor, the improbably named Donna Summers, when someone identifying himself as "Officer Scott" called the restaurant. Claiming that ...
