Walter E. Williams: States should nullify Obamacare — won’t lead to military action against states Post Date: 2012-07-06 22:03:55 by Buzzard

On Rush Limbaughs Thursday program, George Mason University professor Walter E. Williams outlined the case that states can nullify Obamacare, citing Thomas Jeffersons 1789 Kentucky Resolution, which was a claim that the U. S. Constitution is a compact among the several states, and any power not delegated to the U.S. government is void. I think the American citizens ought to press their state governors and legislatures just to nullify the law just to plain nullify it and say, The citizens of such-and-such-a state dont have to obey Obamacare because its unconstitutional, regardless of what the Supreme Court says, Williams said. Williams ...

Hey Bill, writes a Dear Reader. You are a sad excuse for a military analyst. You can criticize the military all you want, especially from your leftist headquarters in Paris. But when trouble comes, youre going [to] wish you had US military forces to protect your sorry ass. Hey Dear Reader, your editor replies, go f**
Never mind. You may be right. Maybe history doesnt work now the way it used to. Our beat here is economics. But the US security industry currently eats up about $1 trillion per year which is a big part of the economy and an even bigger part of the federal budget. When we talk about an upsurge in manufacturing, for ...

IN PRODUCTION NOW. see http://www.molon.us/donate The United States Constitution is the supreme law in the land, yet today almost all politicians: Ignore it. Pervert it. Abridge it. Infringe it ... AND even violate it with impunity. Consequently, Americans see their country degenerating into a lawless, para-military police state before their very eyes. Is it any wonder WE THE PEOPLE protest when politicians reward corporate greed, emit fiat currency, stifle Internet freedom, subject us to constant ...

How the State Exploits Ignorance and Complacency Post Date: 2012-06-30 01:42:31 by Tatarewicz

Libertarianism: The radical notion that other people are not your property. We dont know who first said those words. But weve seen the bitty meme circulating the social media sites recently. Could people finally be catching on? Probably only the radicals... But it sounds simple enough, doesnt it? A kind of do unto others...but not without their permission. Of course, there are other ways to express this basic idea too: live and let live...to each his own and his own to each...and our personal favorite, mind your own [insert expletive of choice here] business... Alas, some people cant just leave well enough alone. They feel the ...

[Editors note: the following post is by Jim Karger, TDV Legal Correspondent]It all began last Sunday as a run-of-the-mill trip to give a couple of talks to an industry association in the States. I knew the travel would be grueling, but when I have the opportunity to talk about government incursions into liberty, I usually jump at the chance. I flew United Airlines (formerly Continental) out of Leon, Mexico, near my home in San Miguel de Allende, and arrived in Houston without incident. It was when I boarded a United flight to San Francisco that things went south in a hurry.I noticed there were several people on the flight with the same boarding pass numbers. One of those ...

Howard County police say that at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, the van was near Manor Woods Elementary School when the operator heard something hit the side of the vehicle. The operator saw a minivan pass and saw the driver with a slingshot fire another projectile at the speed camera van. Police say that May had received two speed camera violations recently. Poster ...

Mittens Comes to Town Post Date: 2012-06-28 15:20:05 by Ada

Yesterday, I needed to get some new Heli-Coil inserts to fix some damaged threads, so I hopped on one of my bikes and headed into town town being Roanoke-Salem in southwest Virginia. On the way home, I encountered a traffic jam. This is a rare almost nonexistent occurrence down here. Almost always, theres an accident and thats whats holding things up. This time, Mittens was holding things up. Mittens had come to town along with his Praetorians, a motorized consort of black SUVs with black tinted windows and what appeared to be every cop in town (and perhaps the surrounding towns, too). Keeping us safe, apparently, ...

How the Taliban mastered the operational art of modern war. The greatest intellectual challenge in Fourth Generation warwar against opponents that are not statesis how to fight it at the operational level. NATO in Afghanistan, like the Soviets three decades ago, has been unable to solve that riddle. But the Taliban appears to have done so. The operational level of war lies between strategy and tactics. While great commanders have always thought and fought at the operational level, the concept was not formally recognized until the 19th century. As usual, it was the Prussian army that led the way. Some historians think the operational level may have been formalized by Field ...

74% Pakistanis consider United States an enemy country Post Date: 2012-06-28 02:49:14 by Tatarewicz

Three-in-four Pakistanis consider the United States an enemy country, a new survey conducted by the Washington-based Pew Global Attitudes Project indicates. The Pew survey, which was published on its website on Wednesday, said that last year 69 percent used to hate the US but in 2012 the figure jumped to 74 percent. The survey also showed an exceptionally low regard for US President Barack Obama among Pakistanis. They believe Obama is as bad a leader as former US President George W. Bush had been during his final year in office. US-Pakistan relations have been strained over the civilian casualties caused by the non-UN-sanctioned US drone attacks, and over a number of other issues. ...
Texas college hacks government drone Post Date: 2012-06-28 00:21:42 by Buzzard

There are a lot of cool things you can do with $1,000, but scientists at an Austin, Texas college have come across one that is often overlooked: for less than a grand, howd you like to hijack a US government drone? A group of researchers led by Professor Todd Humphreys from the University of Texas at Austin Radionavigation Laboratory recently succeeded in raising the eyebrows of the US government. With just around $1,000 in parts, Humphreys team took control of an unmanned aerial vehicle operated by the US Department of Homeland Security. After being challenged by his lab, the DHS dared Humphreys crew to hack into their drone and take command. Much to their chagrin, they ...

Too Much College Post Date: 2012-06-26 08:29:25 by Ada

In President Barack Obama's 2012 State of the Union address, he said that "higher education can't be a luxury. It is an economic imperative that every family in America should be able to afford." Such talk makes for political points, but there's no evidence that a college education is an economic imperative. A good part of our higher education problem, explaining its spiraling cost, is that a large percentage of students currently attending college are ill-equipped and incapable of doing real college work. They shouldn't be there wasting their own resources and those of their families and taxpayers. Let's look at it. Robert Samuelson, in his Washington Post ...
Only a lunatic would join the EU: Swiss minister Post Date: 2012-06-24 03:37:41 by Tatarewicz

Nobody in their right mind would consider joining the European Union in its current state, Switzerlands defence minister believes. In an interview with Geman news weekly Die Zeit, Defence Minister Ueli Maurer said: Europe has passed its high point. In Switzerland, he said, nobody still in possession of their marbles wants to join the EU. This alliance of states has lost much of its credibility. Maurer, who represents the far-right Swiss Peoples Party, added: "We are the best economy in the world. People admire our democracy; we are a country with many virtues. "We are actually the model for the future. Sharing responsibility with the people ...
Hands-On Accountability for the Police Murder of Stanley Gibson Post Date: 2012-06-23 15:43:02 by Ada

Stanley Gibson, a disabled Gulf War veteran, was murdered in a Las Vegas parking lot last December 12. He was shot seven times in the back of the head, without provocation, by a stranger wielding an AR-15 rifle. The killer, 34-year-old Jesus Arevalo, remains at large and is easy to find: Hes an officer with the Las Vegas Metro Police. Gibson was unarmed. He was not a criminal suspect and posed no threat to anybody. His killing was a clear and unmistakable case of criminal homicide. Yet Arevalo has not been charged with a crime. He is on an extended vacation called "administrative leave," during which he continues to collect his taxpayer-funded salary and benefits. ...
President ousted, Paraguay in turmoil Post Date: 2012-06-23 01:12:25 by Tatarewicz

Paraguayans have clashed with police outside the Congress building in Asuncion, shortly after it was announced that the Senate had voted to remove President Fernando Lugo from office. The lower house of the Paraguayan Congress impeached Lugo on Thursday, and the Senate opened his trial on Friday and quickly reached a guilty verdict, ousting Lugo. Lugo was immediately replaced by Vice President Federico Franco, a ferocious opponent of the leftist leader. Franco was sworn in as the new president of Paraguay on Friday evening. "Although the law's been twisted like a fragile branch in the wind, I accept Congress' decision," Lugo said in a speech on national television ...
Govt Lawyers: Drone Strikes Must Remain Classified: Insist Even Mentioning the Types of Documents That Exist a Threat Post Date: 2012-06-23 00:14:00 by F.A. Hayek Fan

US officials have been very public in talking about the CIA drone strikes, sometimes. But it depends partially on whim, and partially on whether they think they have something to lose, whether youre going to get the president jovially joking about drone strikes against the Jonas Brothers, or government lawyers angrily insisting that not only is data related to the strikes classified, but that even mentioning the existence of documents related to the program in open court is a threat to the ongoing terror war. The new argument has the US government is attempting to quash FOIA requests by the ACLU seeking documents about the legal basis by which the CIA carried out assassinations ...

Simon Black Senior Editor of Sovereign Man There are consequences to being flat broke. There are consequences to investing any level of confidence in a financial system underpinned by debt and the creation of paper currency. There are consequences for ignoring reality and pretending that everything is normal. This is one of them: European officials have flat-out admitted that they were discussing rolling out a series of harsh capital controls across the continent, including bank withdrawal limits and closing down Europes borderless Schengen area. Some of these measures have already been implemented sporadically; customers of Italian bank BNI, for example, were all frozen out of ...
Can the State Produce Wealth? Post Date: 2012-06-20 05:23:28 by Tatarewicz

In his latest speaking gaffe, President Obama once again demonstrated his ignorance on all things economics when he declared at a White House press conference that the private sector is doing fine. Obama, who once remarked on how automated teller machines are putting people out of work, blamed the stagnating economy on public sector layoffs at the state and local level: Where we are seeing weaknesses in our economy, had to do with state and local government, often times cuts initiated by governors or mayors who are not getting the kind of help that they have in the past from the federal Government, and who dont have the same flexibility as the federal government in ...
