Perry won't let Texas compete for federal school money

Jan. 13--Gov. Rick Perry said today that Texas will not compete for up to $700 million in federal grant funding for schools. His decision to snub the Race to the Top grant competition defied pleas from several Houston-area school leaders who said their districts could use the money. But Perry, joined by state Education Commissioner Robert Scott, said the money was not worth the federal mandates. Texas, Perry said, "reserves the right to decide how we educate our children and not surrender that control to the federal bureaucracy." The Republican governor made the annoucement at the Region 4 Education Service Center in Houston. Perry's decision drew praise from some teacher ...

HEALTH REFORM: People with religious objections can opt out By MARC HELLER TIMES WASHINGTON CORRESPONDENT SATURDAY, JANUARY 9, 2010 WASHINGTON — Federal health care reform will require most Northern New Yorkers — but not all, it turns out — to carry health insurance or risk a fine. Hundreds of Amish families in the region are likely to be free from that requirement. The Amish, as well as some other religious sects, are covered by a "religious conscience" exemption, which allows people with religious objections to insurance to opt out of the mandate. It is in both the House and Senate versions of the bill, making its appearance in the final version routine ...

Race and Religion: Awkward Friends of the White Man, Part I

Race and Religion: Awkward Friends of the White Man, Part I Tom Sunic January 8, 2010 There is a widespread idea among White nationalists worldwide that Whites need to resurrect their Christian heritage in order to be better able to retrieve their racial, religious and cultural identity. Another proposal common among White nationalists is that the liberal system needs to put an end to non-White, non-Christian immigration, which would then pave the way for polishing up the vanishing White gene pool. Another far-flung idea is that the influence of Jews must be curtailed if not stopped altogether, so that all social ills can be cured. Last but not least, the liberal system needs to be ...

Poster Comment:It will be much worse when the dollar dies than this video would indicate. The Mexicans are much better organized and better armed. Plus in many states there are lots of Mexican-American cops who will shoot whites, Asian and black sop owners who resist Mexican rioters. America was flooded with legal and illegal aliens by design so we would have race riots after Wall Street had collapsed the dollar and stolen all of our savings, pensions and cut our pay in half.

Ok this has been going on for years. Someone in the city put my name in a database saying I am a militia member. Well I am not and never have been. This has caused me some problems. They also have it in their database that my wife is militia. Well I have seen the govt flyers that say militia is terrorists. So basically they are saying I am a terrorist. I am looking to sue the city for this defamation and slander. It has also caused the police to harrass me and not file charges in cases that I wished to persue. The prosecutor in a case I am involved in has even told my attorney that I am a militia member. I am serious about this. So if there are any attorneys out there. Please contact me ...

Atlanta secession effort raises race issuesRenewed push for mostly white suburbs to split off from Fulton County ATLANTA - In the cradle of the civil rights movement, a new secession effort is under way that would break off Atlanta's predominantly white, wealthy suburbs to the north from poorer, black neighborhoods in the south. There's a renewed push to take some suburbs out of Fulton County, Georgia's most populous and home to most of the city of Atlanta, and put them under the now-extinct Milton County. Its supporters hope resurrecting the county would give residents there more responsive government. But opponents say the measure is racially motivated and will open up a ...

To Fed: No Audit, No Confirmation

To Fed: No Audit, No Confirmation By Mark Anderson Sen. Jim DeMint (R- S.C.) claimed he will keep the reappointment of Ben Bernanke as Federal Reserve Board chairman on hold until there is a Senate vote to audit the Federal Reserve, referring to S.604, which is the companion legislation to the House’s original “Audit the Fed” bill, HR 1207. DeMint is an influential member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs—the body that put Bernanke on the hot seat during his recent nomination hearings. That committee, whose jurisdiction includes the Fed’s operations, approved Bernanke’s second four-year term on the board by a 16-7 vote in an ...

"We need to make it clear," fulminated Patrick Lynch of the New York City Policeman's Benevolent Association, "that if someone lifts even a finger against a police officer, their life could be on the line." Taken literally, this would make a capital offense out of a familiar disrespectful gesture, a salute that is entirely appropriate when directed at officious tax-grazers of Lynch's ilk. It is scarcely an exaggeration to say that Lynch perceives criticism of the police as a species of crime. A little more than a decade ago, Lynch (whose surname appears to be one of God's little in-jokes) attempted to manufacture public outrage over Bruce Springsteen's ...

Al-Qaeda Using US to Accomplish Goals – and US Is Playing Along

It is not widely understood that the policy objective of al-Qaeda is not to attack the Western countries, which in itself accomplishes nothing. Bringing down a Western airliner or blowing up a building in the United States or Britain is of no interest in itself, since the Islamic radical does no good by simply killing unbelievers. The ultimate purpose of al-Qaeda is to bring about an upheaval in the Islamic world in which Islam can be rescued from corrupted governments and degenerate practices. When Gordon Brown or Barack Obama say that Western soldiers have to fight terrorists abroad so that they will not have to fight them in their own hometowns, they’re being silly, as such ...

"We Can Make Him Disappear": Immigration Officials Are Holding People In Secret, Unmarked Jails By Jacqueline Stevens, The Nation. Posted December 19, 2009. In addition to publicly listed field offices and detention sites, ICE is holding prisoners in 186 unlisted, unmarked locations, many in suburban office parks or commercial spaces. "If you don't have enough evidence to charge someone criminally but you think he's illegal, we can make him disappear." Those chilling words were spoken by James Pendergraph, then executive director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Office of State and Local Coordination, at a conference of police and sheriffs in ...

The War Nerd Looks at Yemen : An Exile Classic

This article was first published in The eXile on November 13, 2002. Reading the leaks from Washington, you can tell we’re gearing up to do something in Yemen. A little regime-change action maybe, a sideshow to the big production number in Iraq. Hitting Yemen makes sense–a lot more sense than occupying Iraq. Nobody in DC really believes that Saddam and his two million mustache-clone slaves could really threaten a nest of ants, much less America. They peddle that stuff to the suckers, but they don’t believe it themselves. They don’t believe the crap they throw out about Iraq as a haven for terrorists, either. No Arab militant would be seen dead with Saddam; they hate ...

New Hampshire proposes state sovereignty law--with a twist

We've talked many times before (a few links are below the flag picture at the right) about the growing movement on the part of states to assert their sovereign powers as protected by the Tenth Amendment. In the context of discussions here, this comes down to states proposing (and in the cases of Montana and Tennessee, already passing) laws that would exempt firearms, ammunition, and firearms accessories manufactured in-state, and kept in-state, from federal regulation. This, as one might expect, doesn't sit well with the feds, and is being challenged. The BATFE, in the meantime, has already announced its intention of ignoring such laws. That is not stopping more states from hopping ...

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) reached out Thursday evening to South Carolina GOP Attorney General Henry McMaster, the leader of a group of 13 Republican state attorneys general who are threatening to file suit against the Senate health care bill, and urged him to forgo any legal action, POLITICO has learned. According to a copy of a memo sent by McMaster’s chief of staff to other GOP state attorneys general detailing the call, Nelson asked McMaster to “call off the dogs,” a reference to recent threats by the state AGs to file a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a Medicaid provision in the bill that benefits Nebraska at the expense of other states. Under the terms of ...

NH Legislators Look to Nullify Federal Gun Laws

NH Legislators again raise the bar for the 10th Amendment Movement – felony charges proposed for federal agents violating gun rights in New Hampshire. Pre-filed for the 2010 legislative session in New Hampshire, House Bill 1285 (HB1285) seeks to “exempt firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition manufactured in New Hampshire from federal law and regulation.” Introduced by State Rep. Dan Itse, the bill currently has 5 other co-sponsors, including 10-4 pledge signer, Carol Vita. (h/t NHLiberty.org) While the bill’s title focuses on federal gun regulations, it has far more to do with the 10th Amendment’s limit on the power of the federal government. It states, in ...

Founder's Quote Daily Friday, January 1, 2010 "If a well-regulated militia be the most natural defense of a free country, it ought certainly to be under the regulation and at the disposal of that body which is constituted the guardian of the national security. If standing armies are dangerous to liberty, an efficacious power over the militia in the same body ought, as far as possible, to take away the inducement and the pretext to such unfriendly institutions. If the federal government can command the aid of the militia in those emergencies which call for the military arm in support of the civil magistrate, it can the better dispense with the employment of a different kind of ...

A non-US-citizen celebrates an attack on the CIA, and asks why Americans tolerate occupation A foreign friend of mine, who must remain nameless here, recently contacted me to wish me a happy New Year and to celebrate the martyrdom operation in Afghanistan that claimed the lives of eight CIA agents. "This is wonderful!" he enthused. "Eight CIA agents at once! They must have had excellent intelligence and pulled everything off perfectly." I said I found it hard to get excited about a bunch of people getting killed, regardless of what they may have done to deserve it. "That is the problem with you Americans," he said. "Half of you are too stupid to resist ...

In the holiday movie, It’s a Wonderful Life, the community banker played by Jimmy Stewart is in a fight for his life, and unknowingly has his community’s future in his hands. The difference for the survival of his community is access to bank credit, focused in the film on the ability to have a home. The antagonist is a destructive banker who would turn the community into a slum as a function of his short-sighted and loveless domination. In our real world of the present, we’re dominated by a cartel of big banks with political cover, creating money as debt, and leaving the US in collective unpayable debt. We, the public, are the potential Jimmy Stewarts, if we can shift our ...

Eight Americans working for the CIA have died in a bomb attack in Afghanistan, the worst against US intelligence officials since 1983. A bomber wearing an explosive vest entered Forward Operating Base Chapman in Khost Province, near Pakistan. A Taliban spokesman said a member of the group working for the Afghan army had carried out the attack. It has raised questions about the coalition's ability to protect itself against infiltrators, analysts say. The bombing was one of at least three deadly incidents across Afghanistan on Thursday. Elsewhere: ANALYSIS Peter Greste, Kabul This is not the first time an Afghan security official has turned on coalition forces. Last March, an ...

On Platform One at Bolton station a mob of around 100 men punch the air in unison. The chant goes up: 'Muslim bombers, off our streets, Muslim bombers off our streets...' Their voices echo loudly and more men suddenly appear; startled passengers move aside. The group march forward waving St George Cross flags and holding up placards. The throng of men around me applaud. A train heading for Glasgow draws up on the opposite platform and the men turn as one, bursting into song: 'Engelaand, Engelaand, Engelaand.' Some of the men hide behind balaclavas, others wear black hoodies. A few speak on mobile phones, their hands pressed against their ears to block out the cacophony. ...
