Town Hall Tempest Written by Jack Kenny Wednesday, 02 September 2009 03:00 The peasants are revolting and getting downright ugly about it. That was Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosis complaint when she and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland penned a recent op-ed piece for USA Today about opponents of healthcare reform legislation who have been turning out at town hall meetings to voice their objections. Pelosi had furnished Democratic House members with talking points to use in town hall meetings with constituents over the August recess. But opponents of the proposed healthcare legislation had talking and shouting points of their own. ...

Health-Care Anger Has Deeper Roots Post Date: 2009-09-01 10:07:14 by christine

WASHINGTON -- Recent town-hall uproars weren't just about health care. They were also eruptions of concern that the government is taking on too much at once. That suggests trouble for the president and his party, and fears of losses in next year's midterm election are likely to shape the Democrats' fall agenda. At August's town-hall meetings, voters often started with complaints about health care, only to shift to frustrations about all the other things President Barack Obama and the Democrats have done or tried to do since January. The $787 billion economic-stimulus package, the government-led rescue of General Motors Corp. and climate-change legislation all came in for ...
I'll Give Up My Chicken When They Pry It From My Cold Dead Hands Post Date: 2009-08-31 11:07:16 by Horse

Last week I had dinner with two friends, one of whom is what the mainstream would call a conspiracy nut. Over the course of a couple of hours and a bunch of margaritas he walked us through everything from the government's role in 9/11 to the FEMA internment camps to the surge in gun regulations, all of which are scary, but also mostly beyond my experience. I'm a finance guy who gets the monetary side of what's coming, but I don't own guns (yet) and have no first-hand knowledge of 9/11 or FEMA camps. So - while some or all of these things might be true - it was still a bit academic. Then we got to something I could relate to: Apparently the U.S. is getting ready to require ...

How Canadian lawyer unearthed U.S. torture documents Post Date: 2009-08-30 17:54:19 by Horse

One of the key figures behind the cascade of documents detailing torture and abuse within America's global "war on terror" happens to be a Canadian-born graduate of Toronto's Upper Canada College. Jameel Jaffer, an American Civil Liberties Union lawyer born in London, Ont., was instrumental in filing and fighting an unlikely Freedom of Information Act request that eventually unearthed thousands of pages of secret documents which illustrated damning evidence of U.S. government complicity in violations of international humanitarian law. "A lot of the documents describe abuses that are really horrific," he said in an interview. "It was hard to believe that ...

Mahmut Gareev, a former commander during the USSR's operations in Afghanistan. RT: General, you were in Afghanistan when the Soviet troops were there. In your opinion, what was the most difficult task that our troops faced in that country, what was the hardest thing for them to accomplish? Mahmut Gareev: For the Soviet troops, the most difficult thing was the uncertainty of their status. Immediately after our ...

Government Directive Addresses Traveler's Attempt To Prevent Search In A Timely FashionLibertyFight.com8.29.09 After reading an excellent article by Scott M. Fulton, III entitled DHS: Expect your computer to be seized without suspicion, I clicked on one of the four links he included, Border Searches of Electronic Devices. Referred to as 'Directive No. 7-6.1" and issued on August 19, 2009, the ICE Immigrations & Customs Enforcement document contains some interesting info which deserves to be examined. Few people probably read such dry directives, so I read it and have posted a brief overview of the interesting and relevent sections of it. Section 1.1 begins "This ...

Big Beck: Goes over 3 million viewers, beats OReilly in demo: Cable News Ratings for Wednesday, August 26, 2009 Posted on 27 August 2009 by Robert Seidman Though a little scandal might alienate advertisers, its pure ratings gold. Last night Glenn Beck had over 3 million viewers at 5pm, second only to OReilly for the night. But, Beck had more 25-54 viewers than OReilly (888K to 876K). I dont watch or really even care about the cable news wars, but still
wow. Even though Beck airs before primetime, when there are fewer people watching TV, he had the most 25-54 viewers in the cable news world for the night.

Anger in White America Again Kevin MacDonald August 24, 2009 The health care debate continues to rivet the country. By most accounts, the sheer emotional intensity of the protests has forced Democrats to scale back their plans for nationalized health care. And who are these angry protesters? The vast majority of these angry citizens are White people a topic I wrote about recently, but before the health care debate assumed center stage. The health care debate seems to have ratcheted things up a notch. As an NPR commentary of August 13 noted, If you've been anywhere near a TV in the past week, you have seen images of irate voters berating their elected representatives. ...
7000 California Teachers Fired to Fund Rogue State Agency--Truckers Next! Post Date: 2009-08-26 11:12:22 by Horse

This site is dedicated to a grassroots effort with the sole purpose of convincing California law makers to disband The California Air Resources Board. Why are we doing this? Because the California Air Resources Board (CARB) is a rogue agency that is causing harm to the environment and to the working people of this state. We need to get started now. The first step is making contact with your Representatives and asking them to support this effort. If they agree, they will be praised here. If they do not they will be exposed. We are asking that you write a letter, send an e-mail or fax to your representative in the State Assembly and State Senate, then send us both your letter and the reply ...

So if you are instructed to take the swine flu vaccine in Massachusetts and you refuse, you could be facing fines that will bankrupt you and a prison sentence on top of that. The YouTube video below is of a news report about this disturbing new law. In particular, pay attention at the 1:40 mark when the anchor and reporter discuss the new penalties for not obeying the health authorities during an emergency..... If you have not realized it yet, the controversy over swine flu vaccinations is about to get very, very real. ...

From Virtuality to Reality: Memoirs from a Reformed TV Addict Alex Kurtagic August 26, 2009 Ten years ago, I lived in, and worked from, a one-bedroom flat in East Finchley, London. I had a large, rectangular living-dining room area, part of which was my office. My day would begin with the arrival of the postman before 9 in the morning, which brought packets with CDs and orders from customers; it would continue with the daily processing of orders, answering of emails, and preparation and mailing of packets; and it would end with research and development work. At 7pm, however, I stopped and switched on the television invariably to watch the news. And from that time on, until I went ...

What is there about the United States that we delight in sending people to prison for long periods of time? Why do we spend an incredible amount of time and money for police officers to lie in wait to catch that most dangerous of criminals: the speeder? After all, if we didn't catch those who exceed the speed limit, the world as we know it might not exist, and pedestrians and other motorists would undoubtedly perish by the thousands. Why do we devastate entire communities by locking up everyone in sight for using or buying drugs? Has legalization, as we did with alcohol last century, occurred to anyone? Actually, in a recent editorial in the Washington Post, it was gratifying to see two ...

It is illegal for banks to buy and sell worthless assets. That is why Wall Street invented Credit Default Swaps which are a hybrid between derivatives and insurance. A derivative is simply a bet on the future value of a bond, of gold, of oil or some other commodity. If you take a bond you know to be worthless, you can pretend it has value by also selling a CDS. For example, you sell 1,000,000 liar loans mortgages to people you know cannot make the payments. You turn them into bonds and buy CDS from someone like AIG who cannot pay off the insurance when these bonds default. After the default, you go to the Senate and the House of Representatives which are on the payroll of AIG and Goldman ...

11:25 AM CDT, August 18, 2009 HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) An attorney for a New Jersey blogger facing charges in two states for allegedly making threats against lawmakers and judges says he worked with the FBI to deliberately make provocative statements. Defense attorney Michael Orozco told reporters after a hearing in Hartford, Conn., that his client, Hal Turner, published the antagonistic words so that people who acted on them could be arrested. Prosecutors have acknowledged that Turner was an informant who spied on radical right-wing organizations. But a federal prosecutor in Illinois last month said Turner's contacts with the FBI ended long ago. Turner is accused in Connecticut ...
