Few Actual Terrorists Among Hundreds Detained by US Lawrence B. Wilkerson, the former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, admitted today that of the approximately 800 detainees held at Guantanamo Bay since the controversial detention center opened, only two dozen or so were actually terrorists. Wilkerson told the Associated Press today that there are still innocent people there, and that some have been there six or seven years. Wilkerson made other comments earlier in the week in an internet posting entitled Some Truths About Guantanamo Bay. In that posting he said that several in the US leadership became aware of the ...

The first time I became aware of leftist Jews was when, as a reporter for The Daily Cardinal, the student newspaper, at the University of Wisconsin, I was assigned to cover a meeting of the Committee Against the War in Vietnam. This was around 1965, just after the war started heating up. In my short career as a reporter I had also covered a meeting of the Young Republicans, and the contrast couldnt have been more striking. The Young Republicans were all dressed upmen in suits and ties, women in dressesand looked like they were attending a business meeting at the country club. Even though the Young Republicans were all white and most of them came from Wisconsin, I ...

This is the text of the message I sent regarding the horrendous farm bills and attack on food freedom. To call the current bills HR 875, HR 814, SR 425, and HR 759 outrageous would be wrong. The correct word is obscene. To which I could add vile, disgusting, and repugnant without engaging in overstatement. The implications and impact of these bills upon small family farms, and even backyard gardeners producing only for their own use, is totally unacceptable. The small family farm, which Congress says it supports, would be made unviable by regulatory fiat and thus destroyed. These bills are so broad and so inclusive in their micromanagement that through a regime of regulation it would ...

Farming: Why Obama's government is George Wallace, Monsanto is the KKK, and we are all black children now by Linn Cohen-Cole The US food supply is being taken over at this moment through regulations most people have never heard of or know about. Click here. For years, environmentalists have been struggling to stop pesticides that are deadly to everything, and food safety people have been trying to stop GMOs that are threaten to human health and all of nature, and farming groups have been trying to stop regulations that make farming literally impossible. The arguments for organic farming and freedom to farm go beyond argument - it is patently obvious that is the only thing that ...

Baldwin, Paul and Barr Send Letter in Opposition to MIAC Report to Missouri Officials Infowars March 19, 2009 Appearing on the Alex Jones Show today, founder-pastor of Crossroad Baptist Church and presidential nominee of the Constitution Party for the 2008 U.S. Presidential election, Chuck Baldwin, talked about the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) report designating Baldwin, Ron Paul, Bob Barr supporters and Libertarians as terrorists. Infowars broke the story on March 11 after Alex Jones received the MIAC document from an anonymous source in the Missouri police. The MIAC report specifically describes supporters of presidential candidates Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin, and ...

Just as a certain percentage of republicans refused to admit that rotten things were happening under the Bush administration, many democrats have fought to defend the Obama administration against charges of mishandling the response to the economic crisis. But now, as ABC news notes: President Obama is facing growing liberal anger over his handling of the economy, with prominent voices on the left voicing concerns that taxpayer-funded bailouts are enriching corporate America while doing little to right the nation's economic ship.... Several prominent Democrats are pointing out that Obama aides were more than willing to press auto workers to renegotiate contracts as a condition of ...

The world is full of fools and faint hearts; and yet every one has courage enough to bear the misfortunes, and wisdom enough to manage the affairs of his neighbor. ~ Poor Richards Almanac, 1743 I recently received e-mails from a couple of college students; they wondered where the previously smooth path to Wall Street riches was taking them and asked my advice if they should maybe take a detour into a career with more potential and less risk, like professional bull riding. Even worse for the young men, they had the bad luck to stumble across Hayek and Mises at the tender age of college; they have lost the intellectual blind spots necessary to drink from Wall Streets cup without ...

I dreamed I was driving down the highway in my van when I saw three pugs walking on the shoulder. So, of course, they had been dumped. I stopped and got out, intending to put them in my car. Another guy had stopped, some skinny nerd with a big dog carrier, and he told he was going to take them to a medical facility so he could sell them. So I picked him up and threw him from the overpass. Then I put the pugs in my van and left. Turtle has started killing bad people in his dreams. Uh oh.

By EILEEN SULLIVAN, Associated Press Writer 52 mins ago WASHINGTON Using phony documents and the identities of a dead man and a 5-year-old boy, a government investigator obtained U.S. passports in a test of post-9/11 security. Despite efforts to boost passport security since the 2001 terror attacks, the investigator fooled passport and postal service employees four out of four times, according to a new report made public Friday. The report by the Government Accountability Office, Congress' investigative arm, details the ruses: _One investigator used the Social Security number of a man who died in 1965, a fake New York birth certificate and a fake Florida driver's ...

The worst crime in the word may be making a government official wet his pants. Read between the lines, and that's the real offense committed by Justin Chilton, a 20-year-old Murfreesboro, Tennessee, resident who responded to post-midnight pounding on the door with a gun in hand, only to find that the intruders were wrong-way cops who were supposed to be somewhere else entirely. For causing his visitors a scare, Chilton and his father, Roger, face several criminal charges. Police in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, tried to get ahead of the story as fast as they could. An early report said that Justin "pulled a gun on two officers who conducted a welfare check at his home early ...

Steeped in taxes and ready for tea Protesters invoked tariff-weary Colonists, blasted Obamas $787 billion stimulus plan at rally Published: Mar 08, 2009 By PAUL FRANZ, Staff Writer Protesters at the Harrisburg "tea party" rally wore tea bags to demonstrate solidarity. 1 of 1The symbols of revolution were on full display. There was the famous Colonial flag with a coiled rattlesnake and the words "Don't Tread on Me." Another early American flag showed 13 stars arranged in a circle. And then there were the tea bags hung from the brims of people's hats and ears. Related Stories The American Recovery ... Ayers speech still on For giving Changes in Cuba ...

A hoary truism teaches us that crisis reveals character, rather than shaping it. To the extent the word "character" applies to the government ruling us, that maxim certainly applies with respect to the state of permanent crisis we have experienced since 9-11. The tyrannical practices and powers associated with Homeland Security from aggressive war to torture are not a novelty of the "post-9-11 era." The open-ended "war on terror" simply provided an opportunity for the State's agents to institutionalize official crimes that had been committed on a more informal basis prior to The Day Everything Changed. At the malignant heart of this system ...

Tobacco plants can be quite beautiful. Even if you don't approve of smoking tobacco or using it in any form, you can still grow a tobacco plant for ornamental purposes in your garden. Since most varieties of tobacco plants have large attractive flowers and nice green foliage, you will probably receive quite a few comments on it from neighbors and people passing by. My grandfather kept a garden for many years and during that time he grew only one tobacco plant which easily received the most comments out of everything in his garden. One of the qualities that make tobacco plants (members of the Nightshade family) so unique is that their size and characteristics will vary according to the ...

Freedoms Battle: The Origins of Humanitarian Intervention, Gary J. Bass, Knopf, 509 pages The Clinton administration believed in the good of humanitarian intervention, and the Kosovo War aimed to set a pattern for such efforts. The 11 weeks of bombing and the 12,000 killed on the ground seemed to its architects a fair price for so clear a demonstration of enlightened resolve. That false rumors of massacre were used to incite the war, that the ethnic killings turned out to be mainly a consequence and not a cause of the bombingthese were seen as side-effects of a humane exuberance. By contrast, the Bush administration chose to revert from cold war to war, and defined its enemy ...

When I was in college I lived in an old two-story frame house, built in the 1890's. It was a co-ed house with 13 people in it, and ha ha! I was the only renter who had a room to himself! Because I got there first, before everyone else, that's how! Downstairs was the family room, or living room, or community room, or throw-all-the-beer-cans-in-it room, or whatever you want to call it. It came with a TV, which finally disappeared into some cokehead's car and was never seen again. The year that we had the TV, it brought in three things: the only broadcast channel in town, which had a newscaster who would change his coat when he went from news to sports; another channel from 35 ...

I have just finished watching two of my favorite motion pictures, The Patriot with Mel Gibson and Red Dawn. Although produced in liberal Hollywood, they did capturein our imaginationsat least, the view that some Americans, at the time when their country and countrymen needed them the most, responded courageously to tyranny and evil with personal determination and great sacrifice. Collectively, we are brutally aware of the death of our once great Republic over the past few decades, slowly at first, and then with a swiftness that takes your breath away. We have seen a vital, productive, and unique culture raped, pillaged, and brutalized by the most ...

I am an anarchist and a government employee. Due to my economic circumstances, I have been forced to accept the only job that will provide me a sufficient opportunity to get my family out of the rapidly deteriorating condition we find ourselves in. It was with their welfare in mind that I reluctantly applied for a job with the U.S. Census Bureau. My wife and her son from a previous marriage are Mexican nationals. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told the House Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday that Obama will propose legislation to limit U.S. companies' ability to shelter foreign earnings from taxation in the U.S. He also said the administration will try to limit wealthy Americans' ability to use tax havens to avoid taxation. He did not immediately provide details.

In nine legal opinions disclosed Monday by the Obama administration, the Justice Department under President George W. Bush claimed exceptional search-and-seizure powers. Within two weeks of the 2001 attacks, government lawyers were discussing ways to wiretap U.S. conversations without warrants. Also revealed by the Obama administration in court ...

The municipalities agreed to update officer training, write letters of apology and each pay $3,200 for the plaintiff's legal expenses.
