Why We Resist

12/11/07 "TruthDig.com " --- The refusal to pay my taxes if we go to war with Iran, and the portion of my taxes spent on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan if we do not cut off funding for these two conflicts, is not a means. It is an end. I do not know if my refusal, and the refusal of others, will be effective in halting these wars. All I know is that it is worth doing. The alternative, a complacency bred from cynicism and despair, is worse. Refusing to actively resist injustice and flagrant violations of international law, refusing to attempt to turn back the tide of American tyranny, is surrender. It is the death of hope. Acts of resistance are moral acts. They begin because ...

Now that I have your attention, did you find yourself offended by the title of this piece? Good! It was intended to be offensive, not because I derive any pleasure from the angry reaction of others, but to make a point as bluntly and as poignantly as I can. What if I had created a bumper-sticker with such a message on it, attached it to my car, which I then drove around Omaha – a city in which I lived for some nine years. Would you – or my fellow Omahans – be rightfully angered by my actions? My message would be clear enough: urging others to heap praise and support upon those who go about killing innocent men and women. The "bad-taste police" might be the least of ...

December 11th, 2007An Interview With Len Savage Aaron Zelman has an updated interview with Len Savage, President of Historic Arms, discussing court cases dealing with gun owner's rights that the ATF would rather you not know about and also about some of the most recent vindictiveness of the ATF towards Len and others, and a little bit about their sloppy record keeping. This is a must listen for all gun owners to better understand why the ATF should be abolished. The Talkin' to America page can be found here - http://www.jpfo.org/filegen-n-z/talkamerica.htm - where you will find links to the MP3 sound file and a PDF transcript. People are encouraged to watch the movie "The ...

Mike Gaddy is a veteran of many years in the Army. He saw action in Vietnam, Grenada and Beirut. He currently lives in the Four Corners area of the Southwest and has written numerous essays for LewRockwell.com that make for very worthwhile reading. Like a lot of veterans, life has taught him that huge numbers of soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines have made huge sacrifices over the years in the service of what turned out to be lies. In a very recent column, he wrote the following: “We came home [from Vietnam] to a misguided, ignorant nation who blamed its veterans for the mess our criminal politicians had gotten us into. An American population yelled obscenities at veterans who ...

A long article. Some exerpts from part one: [snip] Imagine - if you can - not having a conscience, none at all, no feelings of guilt or remorse no matter what you do, no limiting sense of concern for the well-being of strangers, friends, or even family members. Imagine no struggles with shame, not a single one in your whole life, no matter what kind of selfish, lazy, harmful, or immoral action you had taken. And pretend that the concept of responsibility is unknown to you, except as a burden others seem to accept without question, like gullible fools. Now add to this strange fantasy the ability to conceal from other people that your psychological makeup is radically different from ...

The eyes of a madman

The eyes of a madman December 5, 2007 - 6:30am. Look into Bush's eyes and then be afraid, be very afraid By DOUG THOMPSON Hunters know all too well the look that spilled out of our television sets like political diarrhea Tuesday: The look of a cornered animal, the most dangerous time to face a desperate predator. You saw it in the eyes of George W. Bush, America's too-often discredited President, caught in yet another lie. Faced with a damning National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) that destroyed his outlandish claims of a threat of World War III from Iran, Bush did what he always does - dug in and faced down his pursuers with bluster, anger and defiance. But I watched his eyes ...

Impeach Bush/Cheney: Do-It-Yourself Impeachment... Impeach for Peace met with Rep. Dennis Kucinich in July of '07, and Kucinich then made the decision to enter the names of those who submit the Do-It-Yourself Impeachment into the congressional record! Last year, Impeach for Peace researched a method for impeaching the President or Vice President using a little known and rarely used part of the Rules of the House of Representatives ("Jefferson’s Manual"). This document actually empowers individual citizens to initiate the impeachment process themselves. DOWNLOAD THE DOCUMENT "Jefferson's Manual" is an interpretive guide to parliamentary procedure, and is ...

MN smoking ban - Friends trying to find a way around it

I am here visiting friends and family in rural MN. Last October a statewide smoking ban was put in place. There is no longer smoking allowed in ANY public place, the only exception to this is on the reservations, because they are sovereign. I have a dear friend that is in the process of purchasing a little bar in the middle of nowhere. What he would like to know is how he could open it as a private club - for smokers only. As I am back to truck driving over-the-road full time, I have little time to research such things, but thought that some members on here may be able to turn up some wonderful resources. This is truly important to any freedom loving American - the right to choose. Last ...

WASHINGTON, Dec 7 (Reuters) - U.S. State Department Inspector General Howard Krongard, under scrutiny for his brother's link to the Blackwater security firm, has decided to resign, U.S. officials said on Friday. Krongard, the State Department's top investigator, has been accused by current and former subordinates of thwarting probes into waste, fraud and abuse in Iraq, including alleged arms smuggling by Blackwater. "We thank him for his dedication to public service and wish him well in the future," State Department spokesman Gonzo Gallegos said. Krongard last month recused himself from Blackwater oversight after saying in a congressional hearing that his brother A.B. ...

There's a new technology which marries digital gold to secure crypto. Loom Gold and eCache are on the leading edge of this tech. The opportunity is to make financial transactions completely invisible to outsiders. How can the government regulate, tax, prohibit, or monitor what it cannot detect? Widespread adoption of this technology represents a major opportunity to starve the state.

Col. Ann Wright in Jail (For Saying Swear Petraeus in)

Here's a couple email reports I recieved - first up from Lydia (CodePINK Tallahassee) who's at the CP house in DC for two weeks... ....Col. Ann Wright was sentenced to 6 months probation (the strictest kind you've ever heard of - she can't even raise her voice near the Hill) - it was a jury trial and just blew everyone's' mind in the room. Check out the video interview with Bill O'Reilly that Deidra posted for the group not too long ago. When Gen Petraeus spoke in the Senate in September (not the House where I stood on a chair), Ann said "I am a diplomat for peace". She knows Crocker, didn't interrupt anyone.....it was profiling for sure. The ...

Here's the New York Times frontpage left-hand hed from this morning: "Assessment Jars a Foreign Policy Debate About Iran." Assessment? Jars? Debate? Excuse me? Here's Gramma Pelosi this morning: "The NIE illustrates the effectiveness of international monitoring and targeted sanctions to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction." Effectiveness? Targeted? Proliferation? Excuse me? There were many other - oh I don't know what's a judicious word - deranged? duplicitous? drugged? - reactions this morning to yesterday's devastating NIE - even to my chagrin in these august columns - spinning as no big deal a watershed moment in the so far ...

Vermont Man Plans to March From Boston to Washington to Lobby Pelosi to Impeach Bush John Nirenberg has waterproof sneakers, a bright yellow poncho and a plan. He also has outrage in his heart and much of his retirement savings tied up in his cause. The 60-year-old author and academic plans to walk from Boston to Washington, D.C., to confront House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in hopes of persuading Congress to take up the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Nirenberg says he's no activist. He hates snow, cold and darkness. He's not even sure he'll make a difference, but he's going to try. He plans to hit the road Sunday, leaving from Faneuil Hall and ...

It is remarkable, I think, that some of the facts about government which might be considered obvious, are not considered at all by the general public. For instance: the rulers make the rulers, which they call The Law, and insist that we take very seriously indeed. But rulers can make rules all day long (and they do!) and it will do them little good if there’s nobody to administer and enforce them. And so we have the bureaucracy and the police. Those sullen inefficient clerks at the auto license office are not there to serve you, obviously, but to serve the organization that hired them, and pays them. If you ignore them, and attempt to drive your automobile without the various devices ...

In an age of increased awareness about violence, it makes her feel powerful."The first time I shot a gun was in February. Pack up your Tupperware and get ready for a new kind of party. Dana Shafman, founder of Shieldher Inc., has recently started sponsoring Taser parties, giving women a chance to buy Tasers for $300 or $350 with a laser beam to help with aiming. Shafman's parties allow women to get together to discuss concerns and learn about the Taser C2, the newest consumer Taser that is similar to the device police officers use. She has had parties in Phoenix and Scottsdale by invitation. "I felt that we have Tupperware parties and candle parties to protect our food and house so why not have a Taser party to learn how to protect our lives and bodies," Shafman said. After her first Taser ...

THE THREAT HAS BEEN ASSESSED, IT'S TIME TO TAKE AIMBy Greg EvensenNovember 25, 2007 NewsWithViews.comIt's time to cut through the nonsense and in so many words, when the sides are drawn it's time to get down to "nut cuttin'." (So, you raise walnuts?) You may blink a couple of times and your mouth may drop slightly when you read this, but then I'm writing this for those of you who still do not grasp the ultimate end game, here. We have been under intellectual anesthesia for a hundred years in America. I have covered the reasons why, among hundreds of others, in recent op-ed pieces. Many of my superbly talented colleagues at NVW have done the same thing, and ...
