Ag water use tied to ruling on smelt Battle starts Tuesday in Fresno courtroom By MICHAEL DOYLE BEE WASHINGTON BUREAU and JOHN ELLIS THE FRESNO BEE Environmentalists have a plan to protect the tiny delta smelt, but the idea will require time, money and more than 1 million acre-feet of water that Central Valley farmers say they can't afford to lose. The stage is set for a courtroom face-off. On Tuesday, lawyers and scientists will bring their clash before a federal judge in Fresno, where they will fight over how to preserve the slender-bodied fish that casts an outsized political shadow. "The time for timid, tentative actions to protect the smelt and other declining species ...

Late 1980s And After: CIA Blocks Investigations Into Al-Qaeda's "Operational Headquarters" In U.S. Source: http://cooperativeresearch.org In the late 1980s, Osama bin Laden and his mentor Abdullah Azzam are running a charity front called Maktab al-Khidamat (MAK)/Al-Kifah in Peshawar, Pakistan, and it has an important branch in Brooklyn, New York, called the Al-Kifah Refugee Center that is sending money and recruits to fight in Afghanistan. The CIA apparently helps the Al-Kifah Brooklyn office send up to 200 people from the US to fight in Afghanistan (see 1986-1993). Many of them are US citizens. Zalmay Khalilzad, a State Department Afghan specialist who will later go on to ...

Marxism in the 21st Century Chavez, Latin cultural unity & the amassing proletariat By Jessica Long 08/20/07 "ICH" -- -- To this day, rhetorical deployments of the Marxist agenda send shivers down the backs of the Western citizen. Somehow, extending the duration of the Cold War ending in 1991, the Red Scare continues to loom over the head of Western ideals. Of course, environmental dissipation, nuclear war, and terrorist activities have diminished the priority status of the Marxist threat. Yet Marxism is still regarded as the ultimate “anti-freedom,” positing it in direct opposition to the capitalist agenda. For many, the end of the Cold War proved that Marxism ...

Dear Subscriber, If one accepts the fundamental truth that each of us owns himself, and ponders all the things which logically follow from that simple concept, the way the world looks suddenly changes drastically. Concepts like "government," "law," "authority," "countries," and so on, fall apart like a house of cards. Because that scares the heck out of people, however, many go to great lengths to DENY that they own themselves. The ramifications are just too weird, and too scary, for most people to even think about. Here is just one example: I own me. Imagine that the me I own is standing ten feet south of the border between Montana and Canada, ...

Dear Subscriber, It never ceases to amaze me how people change what I say in order to be able to rebut it. Some people "advocate" anarchy, meaning they suggest doing away with government altogether, abolishing it, and forming a free society. That is NOT what I am suggesting, any more than I am suggesting that Santa Claus be abolished. I am arguing about what IS, not what SHOULD be. The only "should" I'm suggesting is that people "should" accept open their eyes to reality, accept the truth, and throw away the insane, self- contradictory, horribly destructive superstition upon which ALL of the political beliefs of 99.9% of the population rest. I don't ...

Army Reports Brass, Not Bloggers, Breach Security By Noah Shachtman 08.17.07 | 2:00 AM For years, the military has been warning that soldiers' blogs could pose a security threat by leaking sensitive wartime information. But a series of online audits, conducted by the Army, suggests that official Defense Department websites post material far more potentially harmful than anything found on a individual's blog. The audits, performed by the Army Web Risk Assessment Cell between January 2006 and January 2007, found at least 1,813 violations ...

Boycott Movement Targets Israel
Post Date: 2007-08-16 16:14:41 by Eoghan

If Politicians Won't Lead, Citizens Must When does a citizen-led boycott of a state become morally justified? That question is raised by an expanding academic, cultural and economic boycott of Israel. The movement joins churches, unions, professional societies and other groups based in the United States, Canada, Europe and South Africa. It has elicited dramatic reactions from Israel's supporters. U.S. labor leaders have condemned British unions, representing millions of workers, for supporting the Israel boycott. American academics have been frantically gathering signatures against the boycott, and have mounted a prominent advertising campaign in American newspapers - unwittingly ...

Catherine Austin Fitts Has The Key Ever since the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, we have been told there is one investigation or one piece of the puzzle that if publicized would enable us to go through the media blockade and to completely undo the strangle hold that has been holding us in our place since the rise of the National Security State. Catherine Austin Fitts, the former managing partner at Dillon Read, who was Deputy Secretary of HUD (Housing and Urban Development) in the Bush I administration under Jack Kemp, has the key that can set us all free and even stop World War III. The name of the key is Community Wizard. It is a computer program that allows the individual ...

Bill Kristol tells Jon Stewart, Petraeus 'thinks you're a pussy'

Neoconservative columnist Bill Kristol is seen by many to have unique insight and access into the inner workings of the White House and its war policy. He used that access this week to assure Daily Show host Jon Stewart that President Bush does not think he is a "pussy," but US Gen. David Petraeus might. "Isn't leadership bringing along a country and not chastising those who disagree and making them feel like pussies?" Stewart asked, is arguing Bush was merely stubborn in pursuing the Iraq war in the face of public opposition. Kristol defended the president. "He's never made you feel like a pussy," the Weekly Standard editor insisted. ...

shouldn't this be a place where there is information on how to actively engage in resistance, both offensive and defensive? :) i am suggesting that more posts be made on informing people on methods and strategies. everyone everywhere is telling us all the bad news - but personally, i can't do anything with bad news - anger, outrage, and depression don't work in our favor - talk is cheap. we really need to be serious - we are 100 years too late already. we need to take action, and have fun doing it. the courts need to be jammed with license resistors that have winning arguments, the system needs to be taxed so the clueless feel some more taxes (better sooner than later), people ...

Learn something useful - we all know all the corrupt and insane activities going on - it's time to RESIST - and here is some good starting material for those that don't even know what a federal US citizen is ... Richard James, McDonald is a state Citizen of California. Mr. McDonald is a former law enforcement officer who stumbled across this information quite by accident but felt compelled to investigate the issues related to law enforcement and status. Based on results of Mr. McDonald's research, he took the extraordinary step of renouncing his "US citizenship", (the reasons why should become clear to the reader as they review the information posted here), by ...

US Broke Padilla through intense isolation, say experts

Miami When suspected Al Qaeda operative Jose Padilla was whisked from the criminal justice system to military custody in June 2002, it was done for a key purpose – to break his will to remain silent. As a US citizen, Mr. Padilla enjoyed a right against forced self-incrimination. But this constitutional guarantee vanished the instant President Bush declared him an enemy combatant. For a month, agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation had been questioning Padilla in New York City under the rules of the criminal justice system. They wanted to know about his alleged involvement in a plot to detonate a radiological "dirty bomb" in the US. Padilla had nothing to say. Now, ...

"By their own follies they perished, the fools.” ~ Homer, The Odyssey “Operator! Give me the number for 911!” ~ Homer Simpson, The Simpsons I’m far from alone in taking The Simpsons seriously as a force to be reckoned with in American culture. After 400 original episodes over 18 full seasons – the longest run by far of any sitcom in U.S. television history – a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, a dubbing by Time magazine as the "20th century’s best television series," and a new, rave-reviewed box-office smash motion picture, The Simpsons is anything but obscure and avant-garde nowadays. It’s downright mainstream. College courses ...

The State Perpetuates Itself by Failing

If a restaurant, dry cleaner, or home-repair business provided inferior goods or shoddy services, it is likely that the concern would go belly-up. Yet when the U.S. government makes a blunder, the more its citizens reward its failure with further money and authority. For example, after the Bush administration exacerbated the worldwide threat from Islamic terrorists by invading and occupying two Muslim nations, spied on Americans without warrants – which is both illegal and unconstitutional – to "urgently" combat such terrorism, and then saw its attorney general dissemble about the espionage program, Congress has actually rewarded the administration for its actions. ...

There is NO FREEDOM when the population density is measured in 100's of people per square kilometer - Life requires Liberty, which requires Private Property! There is NO FREEDOM when the population lives as serfs on someone else's land! Most people think that 'overpopulation' denotes the state of the earth when it can no longer support another human being. That is NOT what it means to this author, which considers such a definition that of insanity. When land is not FREE for someone needing it for a home and crops, we are overpopulated. When wild game are not FREE to hunt for food, we are overpopulated. When fish are not FREE to fish, we are overpopulated. And when there is ...

Statism is Counterintuitive

I have heard it said that without the proper education, the young would fall prey to socialist thought. What kids need is classical schooling and rigorous study. Maybe after ten or fifteen years of serious reading in economics, history, and philosophy they’ll understand the true importance of liberty. I am all in favor of a well-rounded, deep education in the principles and traditions of freedom. But it seems to me that people often forget just how intuitive libertarianism is, once some basic and mostly universal values are embraced consistently. Statism, on the other hand, is counterintuitive and must be learned. Today’s popular statism is often inculcated through considerable ...

Thesis against antithesis equals synthesis. One result, there were many more, was the Omnibus Counter Terrorism Act which followed that gives the President the power to label any group or organization a "terrorist organization" and to arrest, imprison, and/or deport any political opposition, without trial, without Habeas Corpus, and without explanation of any kind.
